Eredivisie side Utrecht have been
dealt a blow after hearing that Pascal Bosschaart

Utrecht |

|
Utrecht travel off to Eindhoven this
evening to face League Champions PSV in the knowledge that they have only
managed 1 win in 33 games against PSV away from home.
However PSV coach Guus Hiddink believes his outfit
must improve dramatically if they don't want to conceede their second defeat
against Utrecht. Hiddink: "We must play at a higher level to survive in
the Champions League. In the national competition we also must play better.
FC Utrecht are always difficult opponents for PSV in the away matches,
In Eindhoven they look like a different team with less quality but that
is not a guarantee for the victory." Utrecht manager
Foeke Booy is also very realistic of Utrecht's chances
saying: "Away at PSV it's always very hard to gain points. The
statistics of the history of the game are definitely not in our favour.
The PSV players recover quickly and efficiently after losing the ball in
their defence. And they also have very good attackers." |

Scottish striker Scott Booth
has returned to his native country after signing a 1-year-deal with Aberdeen.
Booth who has played for Dutch outfits Vitesse, Twente and Utrecht said: "There were other offers but once Aberdeen came in that seemed the right
option and the more I thought about it the more I wanted to come back to
Pittodrie. I'm delighted to be back with my home town club and it gives me the chance
to prove myself all over again in Scotland. That's what I have been looking for in the last six months and I couldn't
think of a better place to come back to do just that. Everything has fitted into place as my family were looking to come back home
as well and I have good memories of the club. It has been a while since I was involved in the Scotland squad but I know
that you are more in the shop window when you actually play in Scotland. First and foremost I want to make this a good year - the team will have done
well and I will have done well - so you never know what will happen after that."

According to reports in the English
media Arsenal were present during last Sunday's Dutch FA Cup final to
monitor Utrecht goalkeeper Harald Wapenaar who is out of contract this

transfer free. Utrecht have
stated that they are not aware of any interest for Wapenaar but confirmed
that the goalkeeper would not be offered a new contract and that he was free
to sign for any club. The
33-year-old looked set to be moving to Ajax to replace second choice
Didulica who has signed for Austria Wien, but saw a move fall through at the

winners of Dutch FA Cup final |
01
Jun 2003 |
Utrecht
gained a place in the UEFA Cup this evening after an impressive 4-1
victory over Feyenoord. Although Utrecht began well, as the
first half progressed Feyenoord stared to dominate and so it came as
somewhat of a surprise when Jean Paul de Jongd the score for Utrecht
with a 30 meter canon in the 39th minute of the game.. De Jong should have
been sent off five minutes earlier for a massive brawl with Australian
defender Brett Emerton, however the referee decided a yellow card was
enough.
Utrecht began the second act in a furious tempo and within four minutes
Yugoslavian striker Gluscevic increased Utrecht's lead to two goals with a
nice shot on the edge of the box and nine minutes later the Yugoslav was
once again on target with with a 20 meter blaster for the 3-0. After
Gluscevic's third goal Utrecht eased up the pressure, allowing Feyenoord
to stage an all or nothing late offensive. In the 71st minute Feyenoord
were rewarded for their efforts after their man of the match Kalou, netted
from 30 meters with a powerful shot. However, Feyenoord's new signing Dirk
Kuyt, playing his last match for Utrecht, was not intending to let
his new club deny him of his obligatory goal and bagged the last goal of
the evening, rounding off a snazzy Utrecht buildup from six meters. |

who is currently on loan to AZ, has attracted the attention of Utrecht who would

one more season, Utrecht are planning to make a move before any papers have been
signed. Lamey is not yet prepared to

Utrecht - Roda JC |
16
May 2003
|
Utrecht know that they must win this
evening's match against Roda JC, who have three points more than the Kerkraders,
if they intend to keep their chances of playing European football next season
alive. Utrecth coach Foeke Booy : "We
have to play to win. That's always the case when Utrecht play at home but
definitely now because to keep in the running for fourth place, it is necessary
to get three points." The coach also remarked that Roda play a very
defensive game and wait patiently for the counter, saying "Their strength
is the quick change of pace when they receive the ball - by that I mean that
Roda immediately have the quality to attack well once they get possession.
They will wait for us to make a mistake and
they have the quality to react well on that. So it is our duty to try to come
ahead in the game as soon as possible and be aware on their
counter-attacks."
Roda go into the game feeling confident after their whipping FC Groningen 5-1
last Tuesday. Even so, Roda coach Vloet is not expecting a walk-over.
Vloet: "It will be in any case a difficult game. FC Utrecht need six more
points to get European football for next season so the team will do everything
possible to defeat us. "I just
hope that our bad results in away games are not in the heads of my players and
that they will play their own game and not follow FC Utrecht in their battle.
We must play our normal game - then we have
a chance. FC Utrecht have no secrets for us, we know how that team plays and we
also know where our chances lie. That's a thing we must make use of."

Vreven signs for Kaiserslautern |
01 May 2003 |
Utrecht's Belgium bull terrier Stijn Vreven has
signed a three year deal with German side Kaiserslautern and all that
remains is for both clubs to reach a final agreement to allow the defender
to apply his trade in the German Bundesliga next season. According to a
Utrecht spokesman this should not be a problem becuase Vreven may leave
Utrecht for a nominal amount as the Eredivisie side still owe him money.
"The conditions in which Vreven may leave the club are known. We are
no longer a party at the table. As soon as Vreven finds himself a new club
who wants to pay what is in the contract that he has with us, he can go."
In an interview in the Dutch daily newspaper 'Algemeen Dagblad' Vreven
said that the prospect of working under countryman Gerets was a decisive
factor. "The coach of the club,
Eric Gerets, has always been a role model for me. In three conversations
we reached an agreement. Shortly after the Amstel Cup match against PSV
the details were done. I had other options too, but the possibility of
working with Gerets made me sign for Kaiserslautern.

his career, playing regular football was more important. "Utrecht are a big club. I see it as a step forward in my

|
Ajax, PSV and Belgium top side Club Brugge are
all hoping to sign Utrecht's goalkeeper Harald Wapenaar whose contract
runs out at Utrecht this summer. Utrecht's precarious
financial position will mean that the club are probably unable to afford a
new contract extension. Ajax see the 33 year as an ideal replacement for their
reserve goalkeeper Joey Didulica who has announced that he wants to leave Ajax's
reserve bench at the end of the season. PSV are also in need of a new
reserve goalkeeper after having lent reserve keeper Coutinho
out to Den Bosch.

| Twente
target Utrecht's Jochemsen |
20 Mar 2003
|
|
Twente have targeted Utrecht midfielder Arco
Jochemsen and are currently negotiating a possible deal
with the club. Jochemsen, 32, is transfer
free at the end of the summer and so Twente will not have to dig too deep into
their empty pockets to clinch his signature. Twente spokesman Edwin van Lenthe said: "I cannot comment on this
news, just as we never do, before we really have signed a new player.
But it's a fact that we are losing a few players at the end of the
season and that we always look for players that can be of help to our first
team."

| Disappointed
Stijn Vreven to leave Utrecht |
17 Mar 2003
|
|
Utrecht's popular defensive midfielder Stijn Vreven
(29) has stated in the Belgian daily newspaper 'Het Laatste Nieuws' that he
will be leaving the club at the end of the season. Although the Belgian pit bull
terrier's contract runs out in 2005, Utrecht still owe the player his €
250.000 signing bonus for his transfer to the club in 1999 and have
agreed to let him go if he is willing to forget the claim. Vreven is
extremely disappointed in the club saying that he has never experienced such
practices in his entire playing career. Since his arrival at the club Vreven
has grown into one the most popular players at the club and although he is
not perhaps the most technical of all players, his will power and
determination would make him an ideal buy for many a Premier League side.

(who not) are planning to disperse of six first team squad members,
including Arts, to help alleviate their budget. |

20 Feb 2003 |
| According
to the Italian daily newpaper "La Gassetta dello sport" Italian
Seria A side Bologna, who are in need of more fireworks upfront,
have added Utrecht's 28 year old Yugoslavian international Igor Gluscevic
to their list of wanted strikers. Top of their list to replace 35 year old
veteran striker Giuseppe Signori is ex-Feyenoorder Ricardo Cruz who still
has one year remaining on his current contract. |

Utrecht has reached an agreement with two of
their young players for contract extensions. Jordy Zuidam, who returned to
Utrecht this season after a two year loan deal with Eerste Divisie club Go Ahead
Eagles, stated on his website that he was very pleased that Utrecht have offered
him a contract extension in these difficult times. The 22 year ols midfielder's
contract new contract runs out in the summer of 2006. Another player who has
probably escaped being thrown into the football waste-bin is Joost Terol,
Goalkeeper from young Utrecht. Terol and Utrecht have a verbal agreement for a
contract extension until the summer of 2005.

| Court
action Dirk Kuyt against Utrecht |
28
Jan 2003
|
| Utrecht,
who are faced with financial difficulties have seen their problems grow
after being confronted with court action for failing to pay Dirk Kuyt for
his transfer to the club. The 22-year-old striker who is currently
being targeted by Feyenoord as a possible replacement for Pierre van
Hooijdonk should he decide to leave the club, claims he has still
not received the bonus he was promised which is believed to be in the
range of one years wages. |

five million euros have informed six of their players that they must leave
the club at the end of the season. The six players named are: Arno Arts,
Marinus Dijkhuizen, Robert Roest, Igor Gluscevic, Arco Jochemsen and
Harald Wapenaar. All six players stated when hearing the news that they
were not surprised and could understand Utrecht's decision and that
furthermore that they would all do their best for the club until the end
of the season. |

According to the provincial
daily paper 'The Utrechts Nieuwsblad' FC Utrecht are facing having their
license revoked after failing to pay 1 million euros to the players pension
fund, the CFK. FC Utrecht were given until January 1st to pay their
arrears. The CFK are now planning to ask the Dutch FA's licensing commission
to step in. CFK secretary Theo van Seggelen siad "The
problem is enormous and their just doesn't seem to be a solution"
adding "It's now up to the KNVB (Dutch FA) ".

| Feyenoord
target Kuyt and Bosschart |
07 Jan 2003
|
|
Feyenoord have confirmed that they are interested in Utrecht's
midfielder Dirk Kuyt and Defender Arjan Bosschaart. Kuyt joined
Utrecht from amateur club Quick Boys, securing a regular place in the
first team and becoming a favorite with Utrecht fans. The Dutch youth
international finished third behind Christian Chivu in the voting for the
Dutch league Player of the Year for 2001/02. Youth international
Pascal Bosschart played his first match for Utrecht at the age of 17
during the 1997/98 season and became a regular at left back two years
later.

Roda
JC lineup : Bas Roorda, Roel
Brouwers,Predrag Filipovic, Mark Luijpers,Ger Senden,Sérgio,,Kevin van
Dessel, Gregoor van Dijk, Tom Soetaers, Edrissa, Sonko,Cristiano, Utrecht

Harald Wapenaar, Stijn Vreven, Patrick Zwaanswijk, Étienne Shew A Tjon,
Alje Schut, Pascal Bosschaart, Jean-Paul de Jong, Igor Gluscevic, Dirk Kuijt,
Stefaan Tanghe, Dave van den Bergh. A
39th minute Sonko goal put Roda into 4th place tonight. Although Sonko, went
just wide,
and Sergio, hit the post, did their best to increase the score, Roda will be
satisfied with the 3 points.
|
| Heerenveen
draw 2-2 against Utrecht |
15 Dec 2002
|
|
Although being the best of the
2 teams this afternoon, Heerenveen had to be satisfied with 1 point. Ex
Utrecht player John de Jong, currently on loan from PSV,d the score 4
minute before the break. In the 53rd minute of the match Utrecht's best
player, Dirk Kuijt made it 1-1 and 4 minutes later was alert, ticking in a
rebound for the 1-2. Just 1 minute later Romano Denneboom netted the well earned equalizer,
putting the final 2-2 on the score-line.
|
| Utrecht
in financial difficulties |
13 Dec 2002
|
|
Ere Divisie club Utrecht are
confronted with a deficit of €4,5 million Euros and could well be forced to axe
some of their players. Utrecht's chairman Erik-Jan Visser still believes
that the club will not have to resort to the sale of players, stating
that a reorganization at Utrecht should solve the precarious
situation.
|
| Utrecht
lose to PSV 1-3 |
08 Dec 2002
|
|
Utrecht
lineup: Harald Wapenaar, Stijn
Vreven, Patrick Zwaanswijk, Alje Schut, Tom van Mol (58. Etienne
Shew-Atjon), Jean-Paul de Jong (82. Jordy Zuidam), Stefaan Tanghe (73. Arco
Jochemsen), Pascal Bosschaart, Dave van den Bergh, Dirk Kuijt, Igor
Gluscevic.
PSV
lineup: Ronald Waterreus, Ernest Faber, André Ooijer, Remco
van der Schaaf, Wilfred Bouma, Dennis Rommedahl, Theo Lucius, Johann Vogel,
Arjen Robben (54. Georgi Gakhokidze), Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink, Mateja
Kezman.
PSV profitted from
Ajax's away draw at De Graafschap, and Feyenoord's defeat at Heerenveen,
putting
Guus Hiddink's boys only one
point behind Ajax with this convincing performance against Utrecht. It took
only two minutes for Yugoslavian striker, and Ere Divisie top-scorer, Mateja
Kezman to put them ahead. He headed in Dennis Rommedahl's pass and, three minutes later,
hit the post with a shot. André Ooijer put the rebound away for the 0-2.
Utrecht were shocked but pulled themselves together and had the best of the
remaining 1st half play. Dave van den Bergh's was a well deserved goal on the stroke
of half-time for the Domstad side who were encouraged to go for the
equalizer after the break. Unfortunately for Foeke Booy's team it was Kezman
who stretched PSV's lead to 1-3 in the 66th, lobbing the ball over
Wapenaar's head to
seal the points with his 17th goal of the season.
|
| Feyenoord
struggle to beat Utrecht 2-1 |
01 Dec 2002
|
|
Feyenoord
lineup: Carlo l'Ami, Christian Gyan,
Kees van Wonderen, Patrick Paauwe (68. Glenn Loovens), Song Chong-Gug, Brett
Emerton, Paul Bosvelt, Shinji Ono, Thomas Buffel, Anthony Lurling (71. Robin
van Persie), Mariano Bombarda (79. Pierre van Hooijdonk).
Utrecht
lineup: Harald
Wapenaar, Stijn Vreven, Patrick Zwaanswijk, Etienne Shew-Atjon, Alje Schut
(52. Robert Roest), Pascal Bosschaart, Jean-Paul de Jong (81. Jordy Zuidam),
Stefaan Tanghe, Dave van den Bergh, Igor Gluscevic (86. Arco Jochemsen),
Dirk Kuijt.
Feyenoord once again
proved to be very (too) dependent on Pierre van Hooijdonk's influence after
the Rotterdammers were headed for a draw against Utrecht at the Kuip this
afternoon. The tall striker came on for the last 10 minutes of play and
revitalized a flagging eleven into a late series of attacks on the Utrecht
goal with the desired result - a goal by Paul Bosvelt to snatch the
much-needed points. Australian international Brett Emerton put the home team
ahead in the 32nd but Utrecht fought back and deserved a 78th minute equalizer by Stefan Tanghe,
a finely judged lob over Carlo l'Ami's head. The Domstad side looked to
have earned a point before P-Air's pass was fed through to Bosvelt by Buffel
and the Feyenoord captain came up with an equally impressive lob of his own
for the late match-winner in the 89th.

| Utrecht's
Karim Touzani breaks leg |
29 Nov 2002
|
|
Utrecht's central defender Karim
Touzani has broken his leg during training this morning in a clash with
striker Dirk Kuyt. The 22 year-old has a possible fracture of both the shin
and calf bones which could well keep him out of action for the rest of the
season. Touzani, who dropped out of last Sunday's match against NEC (3-2)
with an injury has played 12 of the 13 matches so far this season.
|
| Utrecht
beat NEC 3-2 |
24 Nov 2002
|
|
Utrecht
lineup: Wapenaar - Zuidam, Shew A Tjon, Schut, Touzani - Bosschaart, de Jong, Tanghe,
van den Bergh - Gluscevic, Kuijt
NEC
lineup: Gentenaar - Wielaert, Wisgerhof, Leiwakabessy, Hesp - Schuurman, Zonneveld,
Ax, Govedarica - Hristov, de Nooijer
Utrecht's run of 8 consecutive
games without a defeat ran no risks of ending today as Utrecht comfortably
beat NEC 3-2. Stefaan Tanghed the score in the Galgenwaard in
the 13th minute with the one and only goal of the 1st half.
After the break Utrecht pumped up the tempo and Igor
Gluscevic, just back from an achilles injury, scored in the very
1st minute of the second half. After Pascal Bosschaart
had increased the lead to 3-0 in the 65th, Utrecht eased up the
pressure which resulted in 2 late goals by
Demouge (88th) andSimr (89th).
|
| Utrecht
welcome back Gluscevic |
22 Nov 2002
|
|
Utrecht will be able to field
Igor Gluscevic in Sunday's home match against NEC now that the Yugoslavian
forward has recovered from an achilles injury. It's good news for trainer
Foeke Booy as Paulus Roiha is still doubtful to be fit in time due to a
swollen ankle. The Finnish forward picked up the injury in the 2-2 draw
against AZ (2-2) and has been unable to train all week. Belgian player Tom van
Mol will also be missing due to a hamstring injury while fellow-countryman
Stijn Vreven will be sitting out a suspension.

| Utrecht
and AZ in 2-2 draw |
17 Nov 2002
|
|
Utrecht
lineup: Wapenaar - Vreven, Touzani, Schut, Shew A Tjon - Tanghe, de Jong,
Bosschaart, van den Bergh - Kuijt, Roiha
AZ
lineup: Moens - Tobiasen, Fortes R., Opdam, de Cler - Robbemond,
Lindenbergh, van Galen, Buskermolen - Meerdink, Nelisse
Utrecht and AZ share the points with this
tough, card-ridden 2-2
draw. After a mediocre first-half, in which Robin Nelissed the score in the
26th, Utrecht took control and deservedly drew level with a Stefaan Tanghe
equalizer
in the 71st. Martijn Meerdink nosed the Alkmaarders ahead again from a
counter in the 82nd but, just as everyone was getting used to the idea of
Utrecht's first home defeat since February, Dirk
Kuijt struck a mighty blow with his boot, a tremendous goal and injury time equalizer
(92nd) to snatch a point.

| Utrecht
beat Zwolle 2-0 |
13 Nov 2002

Utrecht

Zwolle
lineup: Van der Werff - Kras, R. Roelofsen, Ravensbergen, Van der Haar - De
Ridder, Schol, Schops, Van Steeg - Promes, Lim-Duan.
Two goals early in the match
by Stefaan Tanghe (2nd) and Dave van den Bergh (10th) gave the Domstad side
the points, their third win in a row and closes the gap with Roda in 4th place to un point.
They are now undefeated in their last 10 home matches, unbeaten in 7 Ere
Divisie matches and have not conceded a goal in 6 of the 11 matches played. Zwolle stay in 15th place, 2 points ahead of Heerenveen.
|
| Wapenaar
back against Zwolle tonight |
13 Nov 2002
|
| Harald
Wapenaar will make his reappearance tonight, after a 3 match absence due
to a shoulder injury, for Utrecht in their Ere Divisie match against
Zwolle. Striker Igor Glusevic will not be able to play tonight as he's
still recovering from an injury. |

beat RKC 0-1 |
10 Nov 2002
|
|
RKC
lineup: Van Dijk -
De Graef, Nikiforov, Van den Berg, Greene - Van Diemen,
Molhoek, Petrovic - Oost, Hoogendorp, Cornelisse.
Utrecht
lineup:
Ponk - Vreven, Zwaanswijk, Schut, Van Mol - Tanghe, De Jong,
Bosschaart, Van den Bergh - Kuijt, Roiha. Utrecht
have finally won an away match with this 0-1 win at the RKC. It's
coincidence that they also won their last Ere Divisie away match on April 14th
this year (1-2) in the Mandemakers stadium. They were reduced to 10 men
in the 52nd minute when Jean-Paul de Jong headed for an early shower
after picking up his 2nd yellow card. Paulus Roiha put away the only goal of
the match in the 56th minute allowing Utrecht to climb to equal 5th with NAC
on 16 points from 10 matches.

Utrecht

NAC
lineup: Babos - Fehér, Penders, Schenning, Gudelj, Colin - Schreuder - Van
den Eede, Bobson, Boussaboun, Engelaar.
'Man of the Match' for Utrecht
was Pascal Bosschaart who had a great match but it was a Dave van den Bergh goal in
the 78th minute, and two terrific saves by stand-in goalie René Ponk, that
gave the Domstad side the points. The win takes them into 9th
place on 13 points from 9 games. NAC stay where they are in 5th place on 15
points from 10 played.

| Utrecht
trial for Antti Okkonen |
02 Nov 2002
|
|
FC Utrecht have offered
the Finnish player Antti Okkonen, currently playing for MyPa, a week's trial
beginning on Monday. It will not be the 20 year-old midfielder's first visit
to a Dutch club as he tried out for NEC last season. If successful in his
attempt to impress trainer Foeke de Booy he could become the Domstad side's
2nd Fin and join fellow countryman Paulus Roiha, who's been with Utrecht
since early 2001.
|
| Excelsior
and Utrecht in boring 1-1 |
20 Oct 2002
|
|
Excelsior
lineup: Malkowski - Buijs, Olfers,
Sprockel, Bastos - Swerts, Breuer, Boutahar - Koswal, Lopes, Pinas.
Utrecht
lineup: Ponk - Zuidam, Touzani, Schut, Van Mol - De Jong, Bosschaart,
Tanghe, Van den Bergh - Jochemsen, Kuijt.
Excelsior and Utrecht played
out a less than entertaining 90 minutes with a 1-1 result. Cecilio Lopes put
Excelsior ahead with an out-of-the-blue goal in the 4th minute and Dave van
den Bergh scored a freekick equalizer for the Domstad side. Excelsior stay a
point ahead of Utrecht in 10th place on 11 points.

| Heerenveen
and Utrecht both want amateur |
12 Oct 2002
|
|
Heerenveen and Utrecht are
fighting each other for the signature of amateur talent Michael Kristel. The
defender currently plays for ADO'20, has just played a match for Jong
Utrecht and next week visits Heerenveen for a trial. The Frieslanders have
invited him to play against a South Korean team and his trainer at ADO'20,
Rob Witschge, has advised him to take the opportunity to get a taste of
footballing-life in Heerenveen instead of another practice match with
Utrecht.

| UEFA
slap on the wrist for Utrecht |
12 Oct 2002
|
|
Utrecht have escaped
with a slap on the wrist after UEFA decided that one European match behind
closed doors is sufficient punishment for the riots that marred the Domstad
side's UEFA Cup match against Legia Warsaw. A pitch invasion forced referee
Edo Trivkovic to halt the match while riot police restored order.
|
| Utrecht
and RBC share points 2-2 |
06 Oct 2002
|
|
Utrecht
lineup: Wapenaar - Vreven, Van Mol, Schut, Touzani - Bosschaart, De
Jong, Tanghe - Van den Bergh, Kuijt, Roiha.
RBC
lineup: Aerts - Keller, Nascimento, Oliseh - Fleur, De Graaf, Maseland,
Wooter, Tininho - Den Ouden, Vos. Utrecht
had taken a fair old 1-3 knock on Thursday against Legia Warsaw, apart from
all the other unpleasantness that took place. Foeke Booy's team clearly
needed to revive their sagging spirits and restore some honour while RBC
were riding on the wave of their 4-2 win against a neglectful Feyenoord last
weekend. Utrecht had more than their fair share of
chances to score against RBC this afternoon and were clearly the stronger
team but failed to convert their superiority into goals-on-the-board. Foeke
Booy's boys wasted most of their scoring opportunities while RBC had far
fewer but made better use of them. Dirk Kuijt put the Domstad side ahead in
the 39th but Geert den Ouden drew the visitors level in the 43rd. Chris
Dekker probably never expected to be so close to winning 3 points at the Nieuw
Galgenwaard after De Graaf put his team ahead in the 50th. His dream didn't
last long as Utrecht pushed
forward in search of an equalizer and most of the remaining action took
place in the visitors' half. It took till Alje Schut pulled a last minute
goal out of
the bag in the 90th before they got a point for their
efforts.
|
| Utrecht
lose to Legia Warsaw 1-3 |
03 Oct 2002
|
|
Utrecht's
UEFA Cup match had already been marred by pre-match scurmishes between rival
groups of supporters in the town centre during the hours running up to the
kickoff. It proved to be an ominous sign of things to come! When Legia
went ahead in the 8th minute with a Cezary Kucharski goal fighting broke out between opposing groups - it
forced the riot police to intervene and the match to be halted. After half
an hour the match restarted and the Domstad side put on a fine display for
another 30 minutes with an equalizing goal by Dirk Kuijt when his shot was
deflected in by Siergiej Omelyanchuk in the 42nd. Unfortunately the Polish
side once more showed their quality with two more goals by Stanko Svitlica
in the 61st and 68th put Utrecht out of the cup.
|
| Utrecht
hope for miracle |
03 Oct 2002
|
|
"We know what we need to do
tonight and that is simply to score at least 3 goals! We may not be in top form
but a European match is always special and there are sometimes those unexpected
moments that you perform above and beyond existing circumstances!", said
Utrecht trainer Foeke Booy. He's still hoping that his team will be able to
overturn their 4-1 away defeat by Legia Warsaw. Whatever miracle takes place it
will be without the helping hand (feet) of favourite-with-the-fans Stijn Vreven
as the right-back picked up two yellow cards in the 1st leg and will not be
playing tonight. He'll be replaced by Jordy Zuidam who added his own words of
encouragement/battle cry, "We are not just giving up yet! I'm looking
forward to an exciting match in an excited Galgenwaard", said the 22
year-old.

| Utrecht
beat Vitesse 1-0 |
29 Sep 2002
|
|
Utrecht
lineup: Harald Wapenaar, Stijn Vreven,
Patrick Zwaanswijk, Karim Touzani, Pascal Bosschaart, Tom van Mol, Stefaan
Tanghe, Jean-Paul de Jong, Arco Jochemsen, Dave van den Bergh, Dirk Kuyt.
Vitesse
lineup: Dragoslav Jevric,
Tim Cornelisse, Dejan Stefanovic, Marian Zeman, Purrel Frankel, Gert
Claessens, Aleksandar Rankovic, Nick Hofs, Rahamat Mustapha, Bob Peeters,
Didier Martel.
Utrecht and Vitesse had a tough, physical general rehearsal
for their coming UEFA Cup 2nd leg matches later this week with an Ere
Divisie clash in the Nieuw Galgenwaard stadium. The visitors got off to the
better start thanks to the inspiration of Riga Mustapha. The aggressive play
forced referee Luinge to dig into his pocket and it wasn't long before
Vitesse were reduced to
playing the rest of the match with 10 men - after only 16 minutes Marian
Zeman was sent for an early shower for hitting out at an opponent. Utrecht's
Dave van
den Bergh scored the only goal of the match in the 28th for the Domstad side
who had a lot of trouble exploiting their superiority in numbers and finding
it difficult to subdue their opponents. There were plenty of chances for both teams after the break which made
for a lively spectacle, Utrecht hitting the woodwork twice through Jean-Paul
de Jong and Stefaan Tanghe while in the closing stages Emile Mbabma missed
the best chance of the match for Vitesse.
|
| Bloemink
steps down at Utrecht |
26 Sep 2002
|
|
FC Utrecht's chairman
Gerrit Bloemink will be stepping down, as of October 1st, due to the fact
that he can no longer combine his work with his function with the Domstad
club. Bloemink took over the post in 2001 from Hans Herremans, who left to
become director of Eredivisie N.V, the organisation responsible for
coordinating top-flight football in Holland. Erik-Jan Visser, chairman of
the board of governors, will take over as temporary chairman.

| Israel
want to play in Nieuw Galgenwaard |
26 Sep 2002
|
|
The Israeli FA have
approached Utrecht with the request to play their EURO 2004 qualifier on
October 16th against Cyprus in the Domstad side's Nieuw Galgenwaard stadium!
the Israelis are not allowed to play their matches 'at home' due to
the tense political situation and Utrecht have no objections but have yet to
give an official reaction. An earlier request to English Premiership side
Tottenham Hotspur has been turned down and UEFA will want to know within the
next 24 hours where exactly Israel will be playing their next match, so we
can expect offical confirmation of this 'special' fixture anytime today.
|
| Groningen
and Utrecht draw 0-0 |
22 Sep 2002
|
|
Groningen
lineup: Beukenkamp - Elshot, Allach, Kruiswijk, Florén - Matthijs, Krstev,
Broerse - Ikedia, Salmon, Tuhuteru.
Utrecht
lineup: Wapenaar - Vreven, Touzani, Zwaanswijk, Van Mol - Tanghe, De Jong,
Bosschaart, Arts - Kuijt, Gluscevic.
Groningen finally won their first point
of the season and actually got off the bottom rung with this point against
the Domstad side. Utrecht were wanting to put the memory of
their painful 4-1 UEFA Cup defeat in Warsaw behind them and will have to be content with 5
points from 5 games. The result was a disappointment for trainer Dwight
Lodeweges as the Oosterpark team hit the woodwork 4 times in the match.
After a mediocre first half Groningen finally looked a bit dangerous while
Utrecht were content to try for a counter. Groningen continued to have the
best goal-scoring chances with Pius Ikedia hitting the bar and Joost Broerse's
attempt cleared off the line. Three minutes before time Dejan Curovic hit
the post.

| Heerenveen
and Utrecht lick UEFA wounds |
20 Sep 2002
|
|
Utrecht midfielder Jean-Paul de Jong
called last night's 4-1 defeat by Polish top club Legia Warsaw a "painful
experience". He admitted that the Domstad side played an appalling match
and that Legia were simply a classier team who would have been almost impossible
to beat at home, even if Utrecht had put in a better performance. Trainer Foeke
Booy concurred with De Jong's assessment, "We were weak in midfield,
made far too many defensive errors and allowed ourselves to be
slaughtered."
Utrecht can more or less forget
about it altogether and will be glad to restore a little bit of honour when
they play host to Legia in a few week's time.

| Utrecht
lose 4-1 to Legia Warsaw |
19 Sep 2002
|
|
Legia
Warsaw lineup: Stanev - Omelianczuk, Szala, Jozwiak, Zielinski -
Majewski, Kielbowicz, Vukovic, Surma - Kucharski, Svitlica.
Utrecht
lineup: Wapenaar - Vreven, Zwaanswijk, Van Mol, Touzani, Schut - Bosschaart,
De Jong, Tanghe - Kuijt, Gluscevic.
Utrecht had been warned of the dangerous and
skilfull Polish side by Louis van Gaal who had witnessed for himself how
difficult it was to beat them when Barcelona played them in a Champions
League qualifier some weeks ago. The former Oranje coach's tips to trainer
Foeke de Booy didn't help much tonight in Poland as the Domstad side were
simply outclassed by a stronger, more skilful and better organised opponent.
Utrecht found themselves 2-0 down at halftime after goals by Jacek Zielinski
in the 20th minute and Aleksandr Vukovic in the 27th. They came out fighting
for the 2nd half and in the 47th minute Dirk Kuyt got the last touch with his head to put the
ball in the net and give them some hope but it didn't last
long. An own goal by Schut in the 59th and a 4th by Stanko Svitlica in the
70th minute rammed home the difference in quality between the teams and, to
make things worse Stijn Vreven was sent off for a totally unnecessary foul
in the 77th.
|
| Utrecht's
UEFA Cup opponent |
19 Sep 2002
|
|
Utrecht play Polish side
Legia Warsaw tonight in theng match of their UEFA Cup campaign. It's a
tough opponent for the Domstad side and it will be interesting to see if
Foeke Booy's team can deal with them and go on to repeat their suceess of
last season when they reached the 3rd round of the tournament. Warsaw are
the current Polish champions and their lineup includes several
internationals - Cezary Kucharski and Jacek Zielinski turned out for Poland
in the recent World Cup while Sergej Omeljantsjoek played for Belarus
against Oranje. Legia added another two new faces close to the end of the
transfer-window - the forward and former Feyenoorder Marek Saganowski came
from Odra Wodzislaw while defender Lukasz Zurma arrived from KS Ruch Chorzów.
The Polish side were knocked out in the Champions League qualifying rounds
by Louis van Gaal's Barcelona (3-0 and 0-1) but showed themselves to be an
excellent team with technically gifted players and an intelligent coach. The
fact that Barcelona had enough problems dealing with them has led Booy to
contact van Gaal for some tips. Despite the fact that they've not got off to
the best of starts in the domestic league (currently 5th place after only
two wins and four draws) they are not to be understimated and, at the end of
last season, they had a run of 26 unbeaten matches. Utrecht travel with a
group of 1,200 supporters and have cosiderable hope of doing well - they
have an almost 100% fit squad with only public favourite Stijn Vreven
doubtful. If he's not fit to play he'll be replaced by young Jordy Zuidam,
on hire to Go Ahead Eagles last season and voted the Eerste Divisie side's
'Player of the Season', at right-back.

| Willem
II beat Utrecht 2-0 |
14 Sep 2002
|
|
Willem
II lineup: De Vlieger - Wau, Jaliens, J. Mathijsen, Janssens -
Landzaat, Van der Gun, Victoria - Ceesay, Quinn, Shoukov.
Utrecht
lineup: Wapenaar - Zuidam, Touzani, Zwaanswijk, Van Mol - Tanghe, de
Jong, Bosschaart, Van den Bergh - Gluscevic, Kuijt.
Willem II have booked their 2nd win of the
season with a 2-0 against Utrecht who had started the match wanting to show
they could be just as strong away from the Domstad as they are at home. Mark
Wotte's team had other ideas and goals by Denny Landzaat (42nd) and Tarik
Sektioui (74th) gave the Tilburgers the points. Willem II climb to 5th place
in the table while Utrecht sink to 11th.

Tanghe, Van den Bergh, Kuijt, Gluscevic.
De
Graafschap lineup: Wevers, Bot, Vreman, Bakens, Hermans, Culina,
Zafarin, Van Leerdam, Valeev, Van Vossen, Turpijn.
De Graafschap suffered a humiliating 6-0
defeat at the hands of the Domstad side last season and were quickly numbed
tonight after finding themselves a goal down within the first 60 seconds.
Utrecht were awarded a penalty and it was put away by Dirk Kuijt. Fooke
Boy's team went 2-0 up with a 20th minute goal by striker Igor Gluscevic,
leaving De Graafschap to try and limit the damage before the break. It only
took 8 minutes of the 2nd half for Stefaan Tanghe to make it 3-0 and Dirk Kuijt
took the final score to 4-0 in the 75th. The win is Utrecht's first of the
season and a fine way to celebrate their refurbished accomodation.

miss Vreven against De Graafschap |
09 Sep 2002

Utrecht may have to make do without the services
of Stijn Vreven tomorrow in their match against De Graafschap. The
defender picked up a thigh injury in Belgium's EURO 2004 qualifier against
Bulgaria on Saturday which the Rode Duivels (Red Devils) lost 0-2. He missed
Sunday's training with the Domstad squad, "I couldn't walk and have
been doing a lot of cycling instead." Vreven made his international
debut in August during the friendly against Poland and, despite the injury
problem, was satisfied with his performance in his second appearance for
Belgium.

beat Utrecht 3-1 |

Ajax
lineup: Stekelenburg, Trabelsi, Bergdølmo, Chivu, O'Brien, Galásek, Van
der Vaart, Maxwell, Van der Meyde, Mido and Sikora.
Utrecht lineup: Wapenaar,
Vreven, Zwaanswijk, Touzani, Van Mol, Tanghe, De Jong, Bosschaart, Van den
Bergh, Kuijt and Gluscevic.
Utrecht were looking to revenge themselves
on this blisteringly hot Sunday afternoon for their Amstel
Cup final defeat by the Amsterdammers last season where (according to
many) the cup was stolen from them by a dubious referee decision.
Ajax kicked-off confidently, pushing their opponents back with Karim
Touzani and Patrick Zwaanswijk havng the greatest difficulty in coping
with Mido and the continually forward moving Rafael van der Vaart. Mido
beat Zwaanswijk and simply served up Tomás Galásek with an easyner
in the 5th minute. After theng 15 minutes the home team took their
foot of the pedal and Utrecht were able to rally themselves, even looking
the better team for much of the match. Tom van Mol equalized in the 31st,
his shot deflected in off Chivu, and both he and teammate Igor Gluscevic
had other chances to put the Domstad side ahead. Mido returned the
advantage to Ajax again in the 79th minute, heading in from a Sikora
cross, which broke the Utrecht resistance, and substitute Steven Pienaar
was able to take the score to 3-1 in the 85th.

Booy new Utrecht trainer |
26 May 2002
|
| Foeke
Booy has been confirmed as Utrecht's new trainer as the club's
assistant-trainer steps in for Frans Adelaar who resigned last weekend.
Technical director Han Berger, the man who'd been in conflict with Adelaar
for much of last season, nominated Booy as the man for the job. The 40
year-old former striker has a wealth of experience as a player with
Cambuur Leeuwarden, De Graafschap, Groningen, Club Brugge, AA Gent and
Utrecht, added to his experience looking after the Domstad side's A-youth
team during the last four years.

Booy to take over at Utrecht |
20 May 2002

| Foeke
Booy looks set to take over as Utrecht's new trainer after the club's
technical director Hans Berger announced yesterday during Dutch TV
programme "'t Hek van de Dam" that the 40 year-old
is the no.1 candidate to succeed Frans Adelaar who resigned last week.
"Firstly we'll be holding talks with Booy to see if he's at all
interested in the job before looking further". The Frieslander is
currently Adelaar's assistant in the Nieuw Galgenwaard and has the
required coaching qualifications to take the job if he wants! The former
Cambuur, Groningen and Club Brugge player also turned out for Utrecht,
where he ended his playing career before becoming a member of the
technical staff at the club.

| Frans
Adelaar resigns at Utrecht |
17 May 2002
|
| Trainer
Frans Adelaar has asked Utrecht to terminate his contract which runs till
2003. The club is considering his request and, for the time being, neither
side is giving a reason for his wish to leave the Domstad side. It's
possible that the uneasy relationship between the 41 year-old and the
club's technical director Han Berger is the underlying problem! The two
were in conflict last October when Berger hired out his son Ruud to
Cambuur without consulting Adelaar beforehand. Negotiations for the
trainer's contract extension earlier this season were also less than
smooth! The former Utrecht player has been in charge since March 2000 when
he took over from Mark Wotte, who left to work for the Dutch FA ( KNVB).
After a slow start he took the team into Europe last season but it was a
huge disappointment when the team were denied the Amstel Cup due to a
linesman's blunder! Nevertheless, Utrecht will be playing
European football again next season!
