Hopefully the

in Holland and prove to his doubters that they were
wrong in letting him go. |

Sparta saying:
"I feel fooled. Under this board and management I will never set one
foot in the Sparta stadium again,"
De Wolf became Dekker's assistant at Sparta after the winter break
and was given to understand that Dekker was Sparta main candidate to
become their full-time coach this season. However, now that Snoei will be
taking over at Vitesse, De Wolf will now have to make room for Nico Jalink
who has been named by Snoei as his new assistant. |

the ground, will demand that Sparta immediately pay back a 2.9 million euros

Korbach stops.Sparta without trainer |
25
Jan 2003
|
|
Sparta are confronted with being without a trainer for the start of the
second half to the competition after losing their second coach within a
week. Korbach took over the trainers position
last Wednesday. During his first training session with the group the
coach was forced to stop due to stomach ache. The following day Korbach
was still unable to face the group. After a thorough medical investigation
the clubs doctors persuaded Korbach that it was not in his best interest
to carry on as trainer and it was decided that it was in both parties
interest to annul their agreement. Sparta's last trainer Dolf Roks,
who left the club on Thursday after being demoted to assistant trainer has
no intentions of returning to the club. Because Sparta's
assistant trainers Wilfred van Leeuwen and John de Wolf do not possess the
necessary qualifications Sparta will soon have to look for another
trainer. |

difficulties will not have to dig all that deep into their pockets for
Korbach as their sponsors have agreed to pay his salary.

Heracles started well,
creating more chances in front of goal than the home-side and were unlucky
not to haved the score in theng minutes of the game via Platvoet

their topscorer Danny Koevermans, finishing off a Lorenzo Rimkus shot that
ricocheted off the post and into the path of Koevermans. A few minutes
before the break Heracles should have made it 0-2 but Berry Hoogeveen
somehow managed to miss from 3 meters, his shot hitting the post.
3 minutes after the break John Stegeman levelled for the visitors and
another 3 minutes later Thijs Sluiter made it 1-2 for Heracles. In the 77th
minute Koevermans was once again on target, levelling the score with his 6th

the equalizer and carried on pushing forward. 5 minutes before the final
whistle they were rewarded for their efforts with a beautiful Gerard Kocks

17 Aug 2002
|
|
Reggi Blinker will miss Sparta's first match of the
new season tonight (and the first Eerste Divisie match in their history!) after
the 3 year-old forward picked up a meniscus fracture in training. He'll be going
into hospital shortly for an operation and will have to take a complete rest
before doing so. He's severely disappointed after a perfect pre-season
preparation in which his team were clearly on the way back after the let-down,
and subsequent relegation, of last season. It looks like he'll be out of action
for a month which is a piece of bad news for trainer Dolf Roks who could have
really done with Reggi's experience in the coming weeks.

Sparta were shown a taste of Eerste Divisie teamwork by Emmen. In their first

Spartans'young team looked to be the equals of the home team but that impression
didn't last long. Emmen
really gelled after the half-hour to beat the Rotterdammers 3-0 thanks to
goals by Donny de Groot, Pascal de Vries and a 3rd in injury time by Berend
Oosting. The Rotterdammers' supporters will be baying for blood after this
latest disappointment while trainer Dolf Roks will be continuing his attempt to

latest & last club to obtain licence! |
26 July 2002
|
|
Sparta are the latest, and last, club to
finally obtain their KNVB licence to continue playing professional
football. The 'oldest club in Holland' were relegated for the first time
in their illustrious history at the end of last season and will have to
make do with Eerste Divisie-land until they climb their way back to
Holland's top-flight. They have had one precondition imposed
on them though as the Dutch FA (KNVB) will assign someone to supervise the
club's shaky finances in order to prevent them from getting any deeper
into trouble. Sparta are the 5th club who've had to run the gauntlet of
the KNVB's licencing committee before being allowed to continue as
professionals. NAC, Fortuna
Sittard, TOP Oss and Den
Bosch passed the test in recent days, if not exactly with flying
colours. The sale of Nourdin Boukhari to Ajax on
Monday was the last piece of the financial puzzle needed to convince the
KNVB of their worthiness! Commercial director Charles van der Steene
is quoted as saying that it was a close thing, but the sale of Boukhari
clinched their case for them and he's relieved at the verdict.

Ajax
sign Nourdin Boukhari
|
23 July 2002
|
|
Ronald Koeman shouldn't be losing any
more sleep concerning the left-flank of his team after Ajax snapped up
Sparta's Nourdin Boukhari today. The 22 year-old forward has signed a
deal for 4 years with the Amsterdammers and the (unknown) amount of
money paid will undoubtedly help financially troubled Sparta out of
some of their remaining debt-problems while strengthening their
position as they attempt to gain a new licence for next season from
the Dutch FA (KNVB). The left-footed player made his debut for the
Rotterdammers' first team lineup on February 9th of this year and was
under contract till 2003. Boukhari left Holland this afternoon to join
Ajax's squad who've travelled to Scotland for tomorrow's friendly
against Glasgow Celtic.

Sparta close to obtaining licence
|
23 July 2002
|
|
Sparta think they've managed to convince the
Dutch FA (KNVB) to grant them a new licence, allowing the oldest club in
Holland to continue as a professional club. Kees van den Boer, president
of the Rotterdam club's board of governors, is optimistic and says that
they are very close to being granted their professional status for next season.
Sparta have to produce certain documents by Thursday after which a
definitive verdict on their situation will speedily follow. Meanwhile, TOP
Oss and Fortuna Sittard expect to be informed of the FA's decision
regarding the Eerste Divisie clubs' future today and tomorrow,
respectively.

growing now that they've lost their application to the Dutch FA's (KNVB)
arbitration committee to terminate the contracts of six players and four
members of their staff. The committee found their arguments
unconvincing and the Rotterdam club will now be waiting with baited breath
to see if the KNVB's licencing committe will be prepared to grant them a
licence to continue playing professional football next season.

| Rotterdam
council lend Sparta €2 million |
12 July 2002
|
|
Sparta have been given the much-needed €2
million Euro loan by Rotterdam's city council which is essential for the
club's survival. The money is being lent the ailing club on the condition
that it is used to help pay off debts totalling €4 million Euros.
€1.3 million Euros will be used immediately to pay off money owed the
players pension fund (CFK) which is one of the Dutch FA's (KNVB)
preconditions for them qualifying for their professional licence for next
season. Earlier this week they announced the name of their new main
sponsor, security firm "Aegis Beveiliging".

sponsor in the shape of security specialists "Aegis Beveiliging".
If Rotterdam city council give the go-ahead for the €2 million Euro loan
to the club tomorrow
then
"Het Kasteel" side will be practically certain of getting their prof
licence for next season!

| Sparta
to terminate contracts! |
09 July 2002
|
|
Sparta have made a plea to the Dutch FA (KNVB)
to allow them to terminate the contracts of six players: Monteiro, Van
Dalen, Mesaoudi, Sanou, Conteh and Nelstein as well as those of
their training-staff, Van den Berg, Franken, Langerak and Wijnen.
Langerak hung up his boots at the end of the season to become a trainer
for a much lower salary. The players' legal representatives have rejected
the deal on offer which is a month's salary for every year on the
individual contracts. The club is faced with debts of €4 million Euros,
including €1.3 million Euros owed the players' pension fund (CFK).
Sparta hope that Rotterdam city council will decide on Thursday to bail
the club out with a loan of €2 million Euros and that the Dutch FA
(KNVB) will then give them their licence for next season. Good news is
that Sparta have managed to find a new shirt sponsor although noone is
naming names yet!

& Steve Goossen go amateur |
01 Jul 2002

| Sparta's
Michel Langerak and Steve Goossen have decided to continue as amateurs
with Deltasport. The contracts of both players ran out at the end of last
season and Goossen had announced he was going to hang up his boots,
professionally speaking while, according to the "Rotterdams Dagblad",
there's still a chance that Langerak will stay on in Rotterdam if he gets
offered the job of trainer with the team.

| Den
Haag sign Roy Stroeve |
27 Jun 2002
|
| ADO Den
Haag have signed Sparta forward Roy Stroeve on a contract for two
seasons. The 25 year-old lost his place in the Rotterdammers' lineup due
to a string of injuries but last season scored 17 goals for Heracles where
he's been on loan. The latest signing practically completes Den Haag's
reinforcements for the coming season although NAC's Jeffrey van As may be
added shortly to Rinus Israël and Lex Schoenmaker's team. He's already
training with the Haagenaars and could well be offered a deal shortly.

| Rotterdam
to lend €2 million to Sparta |
08 Jun 2002
|
| Rotterdam
City Council is prepared to lend ailing Sparta a maximum of €2 million
Euros. The freshly relegated side fear they will not be able to operate on
a professional licence next season without the financial aid. The oldest
club in Dutch professional football is being forced to cut back their
budget by 40% and will still have debts of €5 million Euros to deal
with.

| Frank
Rijkaard resigns at Sparta |
31 May 2002
|
| Frank
Rijkaard has resigned as Sparta coach after only a year in charge at
"Het Kasteel". It's been a disastrous season for the club which
has ended in relegation of the team to the Eerste Divisie for the first
time in their history. To make things even worse the club is in a serious
financial crisis and this, together with the fact that the former Ajax and
AC Milan player recently received death threats, have led to his decision
to exit Rotterdam-West. Sparta was his first experience as club coach,
after his two years as Oranje coach between 1998 and 2000 and he's
recently been linked with the vacancy leftby Erik Gerets' departure
at PSV. |

Steve Goossen ends career |
30 May 2002
|
| Sparta's
Steve Goossen has decided to hang up his boots after announcing that he's
tired of the scene surrounding the sport and is no longer enjoying his
game. The 33 year-old defender admits he's never been one of the top
talents in football but has enjoyed the atmosphere at Sparta and the
trainers he's had the honour to work with (such as Van Hanegem and
Rijkaard). Goossen made his debut for the Belgian side Lierse SK, moving
on after 6 seasons to Vitesse in 1996 and has been with Sparta since 1999,
playing a total of 321 matches.

be playing in the Eerste Divisie next season for the first time in the
club's history. Emiel van Eijkerend the score for the visitors in
