Preview PSV - Monaco

17 Sep 2003

PSV begin on their seventh Champions League campaign tonight against French outfit AS Monaco in the hope that they will be able to survive the first round for the first time in the club's history. On PSV's website trainer Guus Hiddink said: "I hope that we can make it this time, something we all want, without it becoming an obsession. We must not revert into small mistakes. I want to see a team that plays with all of it's heart but also with brains." Hiddink also said on the club's website that he is impressed with AS Monaco saying:  "AS Monaco play the same game both at home as well as away. They do not vary their system very much and always play with a four-man defence.  Lucas Ademar Bernardi is the midfield motor and  Jérôme Rothen has a super left leg. They always make room for two forwards, last Saturday Fernando Morientes was one of them.  The statistics prove that AS Monaco is one of the prominent clubs in France." PSV will have to miss Johann Vogel and Kasper Bøgelund who are both injured who will be replaced by respectively Remco van der Schaaf and Jurgen Colin.
