In an interview in the Dutch sports
magazine " Sportweek',
it has now emerged that Holland coach Dick Advocaat
has banned Glasgow Rangers defender Fernando Ricksen
from the Dutch squad due to his drunken behavior
after Holland's Euro2004 qualifying match against Belarus last June.
It
would appear that after the game a group of six to seven
'Oranje'
players went on a drinking binge that ended up in them all coming back to their
hotel, drunk as bats.
Advocaat believes that it was excusable for the players to have let themselves
get inebriated after the 0-2 away win, but was unforgiving towards Ricksen, who
apparently in his drunken stupor, kicked down his hotel bedroom door.
However in ' Sportweek' Ricksen claimed that nothing shocking happened
saying:
"In fact nothing much happened. There were six or seven
player, including me, who were completely drunk. Part of that drunkenness
included making some racket."
Since the event, Advocaat has not selected Ricksen and when asked why Ricksen
had not been selected for the last matches, the Holland coach has bluntly
replied 'Not Needed'
Well at least we know why. |
