Barcelona stepping up interest in Nistelrooy

14 Apr 2004

Barcelona's interest for Manchester United striker Ruud van Nistelrooy is beginning to look very serious and president Joan Laporta says that will better Ruud van Nistelrooy's Manchester United wages to bring him to the Nou Camp and is even prepared to Barca offer skipper Carles Puyol to Manchester United in a swap for the Dutch international.
The English daily newspaper 'The Sun' have also reported that Laporta and Van Nistelrooy's agent Roger Linse  held a meeting afterwhich Laporta is reported as saying: "We will beat Manchester United's wage packet.
We will offer Ruud the chance to win great trophies and follow in the footsteps of Dutch legends like Johan Cruyff, Johan Neeskens and Louis van Gaal. We know your client has been learning Spanish. We'll help Ruud work for one of his idols in Frank Rijkaard and he can play in front of a player who genuinely inspires him - Ronaldinho. Here he can win trophies at a club on its way up instead of on its way down."
