Kluivert set to ink Barcelona extension

07 Apr 2004

Patrick Kluivert wants to remain at Barcelona next season. Kluivert, who has just returned from an injury, says that he is very happy at Nou Camp, is not afraid of up-front competition and is even prepared to accept another wage cup to remain with Barcelona.
Last season Kluivert was forced to accept a wage cup. The club's governing body have given Kluivert an ultimatum of accepting an addiotional wage cut or leave the club.
Despite interest from a number of clubs, Kluivert has decided to stay in Spain. Kluivert: "Why shouldn't I stay. I feel great here. Last year I had to accept a drop in salary but nonetheless we can still discuss the situation."  Regarding recent press reports suggesting that the Catalan outfit have targeted French striker David Trezeguet for next season, Kluivert replied:
"Every year they say that a new striker is coming. I have gotten used to that by now. Perhaps I'm the number 9 the club are looking for"
