Ajax have made a surprise move for Roda JC's Greek
striker Yannis Anastasiou who will now join the Amsterdam outfit immediately.
The 30-year-old striker, who is currently in his 4th season with Roda, has inked
a one-and-a-half year contract.
Ajax are hoping that Anastasiou will be eligible to play for the them this
weekend when the Amsterdammers face joint league leaders PSV at home.
Ajax are confronted with three striker on their injured list and last weekend in
their 4-0 home win over Den Haag the Amsterdammers were unable to make use of
the services of Zlatan Ibrahinovic, Wesley Sonck and Rafael van der Vaart,
forcing the club to field 17-year-old Ryan
Babel.
Ajax director Arie van Eijden: "You must not regard this transfer as a
panic buy. We think Anastasiou is a very good striker and we are glad that he is
joining us"
