Ajax welcome Maxwell return for Den Haag

01 Feb 2004

Ajax will be pleased to see the return of Brazilian star Maxwell as the Amsterdammers face newly promoted outfit Den Haag.
Although the Eredivisie strugglers would only be able feature as a sparring partner for Ronald Koeman's team most of the time. with Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Wesley Sonck Zdenek Grygera, Bogdan Lobont, Jelle van Damme, Jari Litmanen, Steven Pienaar, Hatem Trabelsi, Tom Soetaers and Anthony Obodai all sidelined for Ajax, the Amsterdammers are faced with a difficult task of retaining their 100% home record.
Koeman:
"We are in a very difficult situation. When we practice our main goal is to keep everybody healthy, that is it.
I also have to bring in new young players when I would rather wait before introducing them. I do not complain about our strength because all the players on the pitch are ready to do their job."
With a number of new signings this January and with 4 former Ajax stars in their squad, Den Haag coach Lex Schoenmaker is hopeful that his side can overcome the odds this weekend.
Schoenmaker:
"Ajax is not the strong team we know from the start of this season. Besides that, we have become a better team since then.  We have no injured players unlike my colleague Ronald Koeman. I think we have a better chance because Toda is on the pitch. We won't give away the three points."
