| Severe
bans for Ajax & Feyenoord players |
02 May 2003 |
A number of severe bans have been
imposed on Ajax and Feyenoord key players for their involvement in the
turbulent Dutch
FA Cup semi-final between the two clubs . Pierre van Hooijdonk, who
received a red card from referee Luinge, has been banned for 2 matches
plus one suspended, for allegedly kicking Ajax's Belgian defender Jelle
van Damme. After the match Van Damme stated that Van Hooijdonk hadn't
touched him but during the Dutch FA's (KNVB) disciplinary commission, Van
Damme confirmed Luinge's report.
Ajax will have to miss skipper Christian
Chivu after the KNVB decided to impose a 3 match on the Rumanian
international for an aggravated action against Asian star Song. Song
declared before the commission that it was impossible for him to avoid
Chivu's arm movement.
Ajax's Van Damme and Feyenoord's Song's testimonies breaks a silent vow
under the players to not give damaging evidence against one another but
with both clubs separated by just one point for the coveted second place,
it raises the question of the club's have influenced their players in any
way.
The
disciplinary commission have also more or less spelt out the end of the season
for Zlatan Ibrahomivich after converting the proposed 5 match-ban to one
for 6 matches for his elbowing of Feyenoord's Gerard de Nooijer.
All three players have four days in which to lodge an appeal.
