| Koeman
tells Barca he's staying with Ajax |
20 May 2003
|
Ajax trainer Ronald Koeman still refuses to
contemplate moving to Barcelona to take over the reigns from interim trainer
Antic, after the club's presidential elections. Mounting speculations are
suggesting that the Spanish giants will make an approach for the former Barca
legend after yet another home defeat.
However, Koeman insists that he will remain loyal to Ajax and will not leave the
club before his contract expires next year.
In an interview in the Catalan newspaper 'El
Periodico de Catalunya' Koeman said "I have given my word to Ajax that I
will respect my contract until 2004. I have been contacted by more than
one candidate and I have said the same to all of them, I am not going to undergo
negotiations with anyone because I am the Ajax coach. The club know that I am looking
forward to coaching Barca but I signed a two-and-a-half year contract and until
then my duty is with Ajax. If, in 2004, Barca are interested,
I am available to talk,"
