| Gerard
van der Lem succeeds Jan Olde Riekerink as Jong Ajax coach. The 49 year-old
trainer, who's signed a deal for one year, was Louis van Gaal's assistant
between 1990 and 1997 when the team won 4 league titles, a KNVB Trophy
(now the Amstel Cup), 3 SuperCups, the UEFA Cup, the European Supercup and
the Champions League. When Van Gaal left for Barcelona in 1997 Van
der Lem went with him and the duo won 2 Spanish La Liga titles, a Copa del
Rey (Spanish Cup) and 1 European Supercup. In 1999 the former FC
Amsterdam, Roda JC, Feyenoord, Sparta and Utrecht player was approached by
AZ and he served as the Alkmaarders coach till March 2001 after which he
went to Oita Trinita in Japan.
