| Sparta
accused of tax fraud |
04 Apr 2002
|
| Sparta
are not only threatened with relegation to the Eerste Divisie at the end
of the season but also have to go to court on April 11th to fight a charge
of tax evasion! The club is accused of paying most of Dennis and Gérard
de Nooijer's wages into a 'company' set up on the tax-haven island
of Guernsey. Sparta wanted badly to keep the brothers at the club in '96
and came up with the idea of paying money into the 'secret' company which
supposedly 'sold' the duo's 'image rights' to the sportwear company Kappa.
The brothers received €455,000 Euros from the deal and the tax
authorities now want to see €1.3 million Euros in unpaid taxes.
