After anng 15 minutes in
which the Greek side looked threatening, Okkas especially being allowed to
worry a shaky looking Eindhoven defence, PSV looked to have things under
control. De Jong was a great asset in helping out the defence - probably
why he was chosen to start in place of the out-of-form Bruggink - and it was only
fitting that he headed in a very encouraging goal in the 20th. Unfortunately,
PSV began to let things slip out of their grasp and PAOK came back with
goals by Yionsomni and Udese in the 36th and 39th. Waterreus pulled off a
great save in the 57th and put in a strong performance throughout the
match. Arnold Bruggink came on for De Jong in the 63rd. A real defensive
blunder allowed Yionsonmi to put away his 2nd goal for the 3 - 1 in the
70th minute. That 3rd goal woke PSV up and they started to play football
again, being rewarded when Bruggink headed in that invaluable 2nd away goal for PSV in the
80th. It will help them no end to secure a place in the next round if
they put in a good performance in the return match.
