Utrecht and Roda fought out an
entertaining battle for European football last night but both teams hopes of
taking fourth place in the Eredivisie diminshed after their 4-4
stalemate. Utrechtd the score through a goal by Gluscevic,
rounding off a Kuyt pass with a powerful 25 meter shot that blasted into the
the top right corner. Seven
minutes after Glusevic'sr, Kuijt scored a second goal for Utrecht,
bagging a spot-shot after ex-PSV-er Eric Addo had been floored in the
penalty box. Although Christiano pulled one back for the visitors in
the 19th minute, Utrecht went into the break leading 3-1 after Gluscevic
completed his brace in the 41st minute to restore Utrecht's two-goal
advantage. With nearly an hour gone, Greek striker Yannis
Anastasiou scored for Roda and a few minutes later Roda drew level after
Utrecht defender Patrick Zwaanswijk's. With just six minutes remaining
Abdelhali Chaiat put Utrecht into the lead. Just when it looked as if the
game would be ending in a 4-3 victory for the home side, Anastasiou
grabbed his second goal of the game to ensure that both sides shared
the points. Roda remain fourth,
one point clear of Martin Jol's RKC who have a game in hand , while Utrecht
climb from eighth to sixth.
