Willems signs for Haarlem |
09 Aug 2002
|
|
Menno Willems has earned himself a one-year deal
with Eerste Divisie side Haarlem. The former Ajax player left English First
Division club Grimsby Town in June and has been looking for a new club ever
since. The 25 year-old offered his services to Ajax's satellite club two
weeks ago and has managed to convince temporary trainer Leo van Veen that
he's worth adding to the squad. Willems signed up with Grimsby in 2000
because, at the time, they were a club with ambitions but the plans for a
new stadium and the addition of some big name players came to nothing. The
team ended the season in a disappointing 19th place at which point the
former Den Bosch and Vitesse player decided he had no future with them.

Douglas saying, "He's a player with flair who can pass opponents
easily and we'll see how he does in the coming week. Hopefully he'll
be able to show his stuff in a couple of friendlies we've got lined
up". Haarlem
chairman Aad Goedhart is quoted in local newspaper the 'Haarlems
Dagblad' as saying that if
the trial is unsuccessful Douglas will return to continue with the
