Council agree Go Ahead Eagles loan

Deventer's county council have agreed to lend Eerste Divisie club Go Ahead Eagles 1.5 million euros to help them out of their current financial problems. The problems at Go Ahead Eagles have arisen after have the club's income dropped by two million euros this season.  Although Deventer's local mayor was willing to lend the club the full 2.1 million euros, the council were not  prepared to go so far. The council have also given Go Ahead until 30 May to  find suitable sponsors who are prepared to guarantee the loan. If this condition is not met than the loan will be reduced to 800.000 euros.

Eerste Divisie club Go Ahead Eagles, who have the intentions of promoting to the Ere Divisie within three years, have fired their youth trainer Jan van Staa. The ex-Utrecht player became Go Ahead's youth trainer in 2001 after losing his position as technical director to Theo de Jong. Van Staa's dismissal is a results of the clubs dismal financial situation and their decision that they can no longer afford a youth trainer.

RKC thrash Go Ahead Eagles 9-2

Maarten Jol's Ere Divisie side RKC thrashed Eerste Divisie club Go Ahead Eagles 9-2 in last night's friendly match between the two clubs. RKC had no trouble whatsoever in rolling up the Eagles who already found themselves trailing 1-0 in the 3rd minute of the game. After Iwan Redan, just back from a series of injuries,d for RKC, the Waalwijkers had to wait until the 25th minute of the game before Jochem Janssen made it 2-0 with his first of 3 goals of the evening. Cornelisse 3-0, Janssen 4-0, 5-0 and Iwan Redan with his second goal of the night, brought the half-time 6-0 score-line on the board. 
In the beginning of the second act, Go Ahead Eagles finally produced a goal of their own via Sieme Zijm for the 6-1 but then shortly afterwards Iwan Redan was once again on target, heading in a Eddy Putter cross for the 7-1 and thereby completing his hat- trick. After Boulahrouz en Michael van der Heijden had notched up the score to 9-1, Eagles striker  Peter van Putten netted a second consolation goal for the embarrassed visitors.

After Niki Leferinkd for the home-side with a clever back-heel in the 35th minute, Telstar drew level via their very own homegrown talent, Anthony Correia, (are the Ere Divisie clubs blind ?).  In the 51st minute of the game Niki Leferink was once again on target, neatly rounding off an Eagles' counter.

After having lost 1-7 to Heracles in November, their biggest defeat since 1958 ! , Cambuur were once again confronted with an enormous defeat. this time losing 1-6 at home to Go Ahead Eagles. Dick Kooimand the score in the 17th minute with his 1st of 3 goals of the evening. After Coen Brak (26th) and Ugar Yildirim (30th) had increased the lead to 3 goals, Cambuur finally managed to pull one back via Durmusoglu (43rd) for the 1-3 half-time score. In the 61st minute of the second half Kooiman netted his second of the evening and 3 minutes later was once again on target to make his hat-trick complete. Just 1 minute later Maikel Ferrier poured more salt into Cambuur's wounds with an own Goal.

With both teams in the race for the periode title the visitors were treated to an entertaing match. The home side began well, forcing 3 corners in the first 3 minutes of the game but Heralces stood their ground. During the first 45 minutes both teams pushed forward and it was a wonder the 1st half ended in 0-0.  2 minutes into the 2nd half Koen Brakd the score, cleverly nudging in a Yildirim free kick. 2 minutes later Rik Platvoet equalised for the visitors and in the 77th minute he put Heracles ahead with his 2nd of the evening, making him the ere divisie's top scorer. (14goals !) In the 80th minute Ugar Yildirim put the final 2-0 on the board with the well earned equalizer.

Eerste Divisie leaders Den Haag increased their lead at the top of the table this evening after beating Go Ahead Eagles 3-1 while second placed Heracles lost at home to Emmen.  Den Haag went into the break trailing 0-1 after Yildirim had put the visitors ahead in the 40th minute and it took Den Haag until deep into the second half to put matters right. Defender Jean Paul Saeijs equalized in the 66th and 2 late goals by Sandro Calabro in the 85th and 87th were enough for the home side to grab the points.

Go Ahead Eagles managed a 1-0 win this evening against MVV but only managed to score after the visitors had been reduced to 10 men.  After John Mutsaers (19th) and Shishayo Luthuli (59th) had been sent off the Eagles finally found the back of the net in the 80th minute with Bram Marbus nodding in a corner.

Den Bosch earned themselves 3 points in a hard fought match at and against Go Ahead Eagles in the 'Adelaarshorst'. Jan Michels put away the first goal in the 8th for the visitors and scored the match-winning spot-shot 8 minutes before time, Stefan Jansen scoring their 3rd in the 52nd. (52'). The Eagles put on a better show in the 2nd act with goals by Dick Kooijman (54th) and Ugur Yildirim (63rd) that looked enough for a point.  Den Bosch were reduced to10 men in the 69th when Patrick Deckers was sent off bu the Eagles couldn't profit form their numerical advantage.Den Bosch climb to 8th while the Eagles stay in 4th place.

Sub-topper Go Ahead Eagles went 1-0 down after 23 minutes of last night's match when Ronald Hamming put away a spot-shot after a penalty was awarded against the visitors. After the break the Eagles drew level through a Bram Marbus goal and a late 90th minute winner by Koen Brack gave them the points.

Trainer Co Adriaanse booked his first success with his new team AZ last night after the Alkmaarders beat Go Ahead Eagles 2-3 in the first knockout round of the Amstel Cup. It was also the Eagles 6th consecutive Cup defeat by AZ! Martijn Meerdink put AZ ahead after 4 minutes while the Eagles had 1st half goal-scoring opportunities but their strikers failed to pass Oscar Moens in goal. AZ were gifted a 2nd just before halftime when an unhappy Dennis Hulshoff headed in Kenneth Perez's freekick for an own goal while, after the break, Tim de Clear broke through on the left in the 49th to put away the 3rd. Two late goals by Jamal Dibi (81st minute penalty and 90th) were not enough to cause AZ any real problems.

After Marco Boogers drew level in the 74th minute it looked as if the game would be ending in a 1-1 draw but, in the 90th minute of the match, Niki Leferink sneaked in the winner with his 5th goal of the season.

Go Ahead Eagles will most likely miss Dennis Hulshoff for this Saturday's match against Den Bosch after the 32 year-old defender picked up a thigh injury. Hulshoff, who returned to the Eagle's Nest (Adelaarshorst) this summer after 5 seasons with Twente, had to drop out of last weekend's match against VVV in the 44th minute. there is some good news for trainer Robert Maaskant as striker Jamal Dibi and keeper Bas Wijnen are back in training.

The Eagles were the better side and finally went ahead in the 69th with a goal by Ugur Yilderim. Gert Jan Tamerus equalized for the visitors in the 87th.

Go Ahead Eagles made ammends for last week's home defeat by Volendam with a convincing 2 - 0 win against Veendam. Both teams, who were both in the race for the 1st period title, started poorly and were clearly having problems creating any chances in front of goal. In the second half the Eagles were more aggressive which resulted in a Dick Kooijman goal in the 51st minute. 20 minutes later Jamal Dibi made it 2 - 0.

Volendam got off to a shaky start to the season, losing their first two games, but won their second game in a row last night, narrowly beating Go Ahead Eagles 1 - 2.  In an over heated match, in which referee Van der Hilst awarded 4 yellow and 2 red cards, the visitorsd the score via midfielder Faria in the 23rd minute. Bram Marbus equalized for the Eagles 8 minutes later.  3 minutes into the 2nd half Dion Esajas scored the final goal of the evening. Both teams now occupy the same position in the league table with 6 points from 4 matches.

Emmen beat Go Ahead Eagles last night in an entertaining 7 goal match and go top of the Eerste Divisie. Junqueirad the score for Emmen in the 16th minute and increased the lead to 2-0 just 4 minutes later. Although Dick Kooimans pulled one back in the 27th the visitors went into the break trailing 3-1 after Donny de Groot scored his 1st of 2 goals of the evening. 10 minutes after the break De Groot made it 4-1 with his 4th goal of the season. Niki Leferink put a more respectable score on the board for the Eagles with 2 goals in the 70th and 83rd minute.
G.A. Eagles beat Helmond Sport 3 - 4

G.A. Eagles beat Helmond sport last night in a match with 6 second half goals. The Eagles went into the break leading  1 - 0 via a Peter van Putten 11th minute goal. One minute after the break the visitors drew level via Rob Oomens.  After Bram Marbus (59th) and Ugar Yildirim (63rd)  put a comfortable 3 - 1 on the scoreboard Helmond somehow managed to scramble back to 3 - 3 via Roy Hederiksen (77) and Leo Kantelenberg (84).  Niki Leferink's injury time goal put the final 4-3 on the score-board,  whereas a draw would have been a better reflection of the match.

Eerste Divisie Cambuur Leeuwarden won theirng match of the Amstel Cup in Group 19 against amateurs SC Genemuiden 0-7. In Group 18 another Eerste Divisie side Go Ahead Eagles beat amateurs Hoogeveen 0-10.

Go Ahead Eagles are hiring AZ's Jamal Dibi for next season. The left-winger has played for the Alkmaarders during the last 2 season but never manged to secure a place in the starting lineup. He played 41 matches, scoring 6 goals, in those two seasons. He arrived from Telstar in the summer of 2000 and was heralded as a great talent but has failed to live up to expectations.

Wouter van den Herik looks set to make the move from FC Groningen to Deventer's Go Ahead Eagles after signing a deal for the coming 3 years - it only remains for the two clubs to agree on a price! The 22 year-old striker, who was told last month that he could start looking for a new club, has been on loan to Telstar this season. He's the latest signing for the Eagles as they prepare for next season, other recent additions being Martijn Kuiper, Bas Wijnen (Vitesse), Bram Marbus (Sparta), Dennis Hulshoff (Twente) and Michel Kruijer (Excelsior).

Vitesse are lending former youth international Bas Wijnen to Eerste Divisie side Go Ahead Eagles. The 20 year-old keeper is being hired out next season because he's seeing little action in Arnhem. Eagles-director Martien Vreijsen has also reached an agreement with Vitesse concerning Martijn Kuiper. The 23 year-old defender has been on loan to RKC and RBC but has now signed a contract with the Eagles for the coming 3 years. Go Ahead have recently added Bram Marbus (Sparta), Dennis Hulshoff (Twente) and Michel Kruijer (Excelsior) to the squad.

G.A.Eagles beat Haarlem 3-2
Go Ahead Eagles took an early 2-0 lead with goals from Hans van Arum in the 5th and Dick Kooimans in the 8th. Haarlem fought back and, in the 39th minute, they pulled one back via a cracking shot by Ajax hired-gun Darl Douglas. In the 75th minute Haarlem levelled via a Didi Longuet spot- shot. Although a draw would have been a truer reflection of the game it was the Eagles that managed to win after Niel Wellenberg sneaked in for his 1st goal of the season and the 3-2 just 1 minute before the final whistle.

Kenneth Goudmijnd the score in the 30th minute with a low, hard shot into the far left hand corner of the goal. 15 minutes into the second half, Cambuur's top scorer nodded in the 2-0 with his 16th goal of the season. Go Ahead Eagles' top scorer Hans van Arum netted a consolation goal 2 minutes into injury time, heading in his 11th of the season.

Despite the two clubs and the player all agreeing to the move, the 20 year-old German youth international has decided he's no longer interested. He'll be returning instead to Schalke from Hannover where he's been on loan.

Ugar Yildirimd the score in the 15th minute of the match.  Marco Boogers equalized in the 23rd with his 17th goal of the season. Erik Redeker made it 2-1 just 2 minutes later. Peter Putten scored his first of 2 goals of the evening for the 3-1 in the 31st. 10 minutes after the break  Leon van Dalen reduced the gap to 1 goal but, 4 minutes later, Peter Putten potted his 2nd of the night for the 4-2.

VVV draw with Go Ahead Eagles  1 - 1.
VVV were unlucky last night after drawing with Go Ahead Eagles when in fact they could have won. The home side should have been awarded 2 penalties in the 1st 10 minutes of the game but referee Karremans was not in the blowing mood and kept his whistle safely tucked away. In the 10th minute of the game VVV took the lead after Sjors Verdellen's magnificent 30 metre lob flew into the back of the net. Dutch television station SBS6 were ecstatic about the goal and showed several replays later in the evening on their Friday night sport's program.  In the 90th minute, Go Ahead Eagles forward Marcel Muhlac scored his 1st goal of the season, putting the final 1-1 on the board.

G.A. Eagles were crushed by Volendam last night and were lucky to be rewarded with 2 late consolation goals to lessen the pain. Volendam were leading 0-5 after goals from Loran, De Groot, Esajas and 2 by Buys before the Eagles scored via Jochem de Weerdt in the 86th and Ugar Yilidirim in the 90th.

Go Ahead Eagles have signed Excelsior's Michel Kruijer on a contract for 2 years. The 25 year-old defender has been told his contract with Excelsior will not be extended and is the Eagles' 4th reinforcement as they prepare for next season. Earlier signings include Dennis Hulshoff, Bram Marbus and German youth international Christan Mikolajcz.

Heracles beat G.A.Eagles 3 - 1
Heracles won 3 valuable points last night in the race for the 4th period title.  They couldn't have got off to worse start, as defender Peter Reekers scored an own goal in the 2nd minute, (his 1st 'goal' of the season). This did not deter Heracles and within 2 minutes they drew level via Thijs Sluiter. 3 minutes later Eagles goalkeeper Van der Kwaak half-stopped a shot from Rik Platvoet only to see Platvoet score from the rebound.
1 minute into the second half Roy Stroeve put the final 3 - 1 on the score board with his 16th goal of the season.

Eagles hire Christian Mikolajczak

Go Ahead Eagles will be hiring Christian Mikolajczak from Bundesliga side Schalke 04 next season. The 20 year-old midfielder is currently on loan to Hannover 96 and recently made his debut for the German Under 21 team. Former Eagles player René Eijkelkamp, who becomes the Eerste Divisie side's assistant trainer next season, is partly responsible for the youngster's arrival as he was himself a Schalke player between 1997 and 1999 and still enjoys good contacts in Gelsenkirchen.

Go Ahead Eagles lose to MVV 1 - 2. This was a meeting between the number 14 and 16 teams of the Eerste Divisie. Within theng minute Udur Yidirimd the score for the Eagles. Ten minutes later Harvey Wijngaarde drew MVV level and a goal by Tomas Daumantas in the 68th was sufficient for the visitors to go home with the points.

De Weerdt signs new Eagles contract

Jochem de Weerdt has decided to stay at the "The Eagles' Nest" (Adelaarshorst), home to Go Ahead Eagles. The 24 year-old striker has reached agreement on a new contract for the coming two years. He's been with the Deventer side since the 1996/1997, scoring 19 goals in 81 matches.

Bram Marbus will be moving from Sparta to play for Go Ahead Eagles next season on a contract for two years. It's a return to his former club, where he played between 1997 and 1999, for the striker who is the 2nd former Eagle to return to the "Adelaarshorst" (Eagles' Nest) in recent weeks (Dennis Hulshoff being the other).

Twente's Dennis Hulshoff returns to his former club Go Ahead Eagles at the end of the season. The 32 year-old defender, who previously played for Go Ahead between 1989 and 1997, has signed a contract for 3 years. He made his professional debut on December 23rd 1989, playing 327 matches since then, scoring just once (a penalty in the 2 - 1 defeat by Twente on October 29th 1995).

Go Ahead Eagles are having a clearout of players and are not extending the contracts of Peter Scheppink, Dick Schreuder, André van Tuinen and Michel Lage Venterink, when their deals run out this summer, while Ruud Langenberg and Erik Redeker have also been told to start looking for a new club. The Eerste Divisie side want to bring in some fresh blood and the first candidate for a place with the Deventer side is Simon Cantanzaro who currently turns out for Sydney club Northern Spirit. The 20 year-old Australian midfielder has been offered a week's trial.

RBC trainer Robert Maaskant will be signing a deal with Eerste Divisie side Go Ahead Eagles on Wednesday. He'll be joined by René Eijkelkamp as his assistant while Raymond Libregts, currently his assistant in Roosendaal, will become head of the Eagles' youth scheme. 34 year-old Maaskant  played as a defender for the Eagles in the 1989/90 and 1991/92 seasons, becoming the Deventer side's assistant trainer in the 1995/1996 season. Eijkelkamp made his debut for Go Ahead on November 8th 1981 in the 4 - 1 away defeat by Ajax, going on to score 93 goals for the club.

Go Ahead Eagles will miss their striker Dick Schreuder for the coming 3 months after the 30 year-old underwent a cartilage  operation on his right knee. The Deventer side will also miss Hans van Arum (back injury) and André van Tuinen (operated on for an achilles tendon problem) for several weeks. Good news is that goalie René Grotenhuis is about to restart training in a week or two after recovering from operations on both his knees.

Brugge will most likely return to Twente and the other players are left slightly bemused by the sudden decision to exclude them.

Go Ahead Eagles beat Heracles 3 - 1. The 1st half was tight and both sides had few chances. Hubert Dijk lobbed a ball over Van Loo to put the Eagles ahead in the 7th minute of the 2nd half (52nd minute). The lead didn't last long as Stefano Wooding got an equalizer in the 55th.  Niels Wellenberg's shot was deflected in by Dick Kooijman to put the Eagles ahead again in the 58th and Ugur Yildirim put away the 3rd in the 90th. The Eagles are now in 13th while Heracles are in 10th place.

Go Ahead Eagles have found themselves a new trainer - Theo de Jong takes over from Hennie in 't Hof and Jan van Deinsen who've been taking care of things after trainer Jan van Staa was 'diagnosed' as overworked (he's recovering at home from 'burn-out'). The 54 year-old former international De Jong has been active as trainer for Cambuur Leeuwarden, FC Den Bosch, FC Zwolle, Willem II and the Finnish side Tervarit.
Utrecht and Eagles strengthen ties

Utrecht and Go Ahead Eagles will be signing a document today which will increase the cooperation that already exists between the Ere Divisie and Eerste Divisie clubs. The deal will mean the exchange of players on loan, a first option to buy players and help with scouting and organisation. The first step in this direction was made a year ago, resulting in the loan of Utrecht's Jordy Zuidam to the Eagles. The Domstad side also have a similar agreement with Cambuur Leuuwarden.

Hans van Arum got one back for the Eagles just before the break, Taiwo scored his 2nd of the evening for the 3 - 1, Jochem de Weerdt closed the gap to one goal (3 - 2) before Sam Ysebaert got goal no.4 for the home team.

Eagles sign Wellenberg - new trainer soon?

Go Ahead Eagles have signed 19 year-old defender Niels Wellenberg on a contract till July 2004. They are also looking around for a new trainer, now that Jan van Staa is recovering at home from 'burn-out' while Hennie in't Hof and Jan van Deinsen take care of business, and possible candidates are Jan van Dijk and Kees van Kooten.

Emmen snatched 3 points at the "Adelaarshorst" (Eagles nest) with a 90th minute goal by Jeffrey de Visscher. Paul Weerman had given them the lead in the 15th minute, Hans van Arum equalized for the Eagles with a penalty in the 34th, Dennis Iliohan nosed Emmen back into the lead in the 51st, Van Arum scored with his his 2nd spot-shot in the 72nd to even the score before De Visscher's last gasp goal delivered some very welcome 3-points, thank-you, for the visitors.

The First Division match scheduled for this evening between Emmen and Go Ahead Eagles has been postponed out of respect for the victims of the terrorist attacks on New York and Washington in the disasters which have struck the United States today. The other match between Excelsior and MVV is taking place (as normal) and, of course, IMPORTANT Champions League and UEFA Cup matches are also going ahead!

Eagles sign Erik Redeker

Go Ahead Eagles have signed De Graafschap's transfer-free Erik Redeker. The 33 year-old has played for the Doetinchem  for 10 years now and is probably happy to have a change of surroundings. He was told not to expect much action with the "Superboeren"  (Superfarmers) next season and the Eagles were interested in signing him because of his experience. The clubs have now agreed terms and he only has to pass the medical in order to join his new club.

Today's playoffs were in Group B...Go Ahead Eagles played host to Sparta and drew 1 - 1. Dick Schreuder put the Eagles ahead in the 11th minute and they were the stronger side throughout the 1st half. Sparta's Silvan Inia got sent opff in the 55th minute but that man Ali Elkhattabi got the equalizer in the 62nd to earn the Rotterdammers the one point they still needed to remain in the Ere Divisie next season.

The Rotterdammers were the stronger side in the 1st half but didn't convert the chances they got, Cecilio Lopes coming closest, and it was instead a goal from Dick Kooijman in the 26th minute which put the Deventer side ahead. Johan Feskens could have equalized but missed a penalty in the 43rd and the Eagles held on to earn 3 points and are on equal points with Excelsior who are just ahead on goal average.
