Deportivo beat PSV
2-0 |
01 Oct
2003 |
Spanish side Deportivo
beat PSV 2-0 to move up to second in their group on four points.
PSV will now
need a mircale to happen if they
are two somehow qualify for the next round. Although both of Deportivo's
goals were somewhat fortunate, the 2-0 was a good reflection of the match.
In the 20th minute Sergio gave the home side a
1-0 lead following a short free kick, his shot taking a deflection
off a defender to wrong foot keeper Waterreus.
Pandiani kept up his phenomenal scoring record this season with a second
from the penalty spot after Valerón was pushed over in the area early in
the second half. The Dutch side could not beat Depor's offside trap, and
substitute Diego Tristán almost made it three later on. |

Preview Deportivo - PSV |

Sep
2003 |
PSV travel off to Deporortivo
hoping to leave last weekends 0-1 home defeat by AZ behind
them. The Eindhovenaren, who also lost at home to AS Monaco two weeks ago in
their Champions Leagueng game, know that they must at least force a draw
otherwise their chances of reaching the next round will almost certainly be
diminished. However, they face a shaky Deportivo who lost their number one spot
in the Spanish league this weekend. Deportivo
will be determined to wipe out their 3-2
weekend defeat to Osasuna in which
they were surprised by an Osasuna side who raced into a three goal lead
in the first half hour of the game. However, Deportivo
showed their resilience when they pulled two back later on though for a
3-2 final result.
Deportivo were forced to qualify
for the Champions League via the qualification rounds in which Héctor
Berenguel del Pino was shown a yellow card. The 29-year-old
defender was also shown yellow in Deportivo's match against AEK Athens two
weeks ago and will now have to tread carefully in Deportivo's defence.
Furhtermore Amavisca, Tristán, Mauro Silva, Sergio
and Victor were also shown yellow cards in the Athens
match and will also have to tread carefully.
PSV's Ji-Sung Park and
Remco van der Schaaf have both been yellow-carded and so
they too will be hoping for a card-free evening.
Tonight's match will be lead by a Scandinavian trio. Referee Claus
Bo Larsen will be assisted by fellow countryman Bill
René Hansen and the Fin Erik Rasmussen. |

Ajax will have to face
Champions League winners AC Milan in this year's event
after being drawn in the same groups as the Italian giants this afternoon.

satisfied with the draw and Milan are the toughest opponents, however we do
have a score to settle with them. I'm not so familiar with the other clubs.

Brugge qualified after knocking Dortmund
out" Ajax start against AC Milan

stated directly after the draw that he regarded the away matches to
Deportivo and AEK Athens to be the hardest but was none the less satisfied
with the group. Hiddink "I know Deportivo from my time in Spain and so know
