Tottenham Hotspur and Southampton are targeting Willem II's Jattoo Ceesay.
The 28 year-old Gambian international (63 caps) has a contract which runs
till the summer of 2004 in Tilburg but they could let him go in order to
raise some cash. Apparently AZ are also interested in signing him which
means he could be reunited with his former trainer Co Adriaanse who's
recently taken over in Alkmaar.

by keeper Geert de Vlieger. Dmitri Shoukov gave the Tilburgers the lead,

out-of-favour Dmitri Shoukov, after the 5-1 thrashing at Feyenoord last
weekend but his team were soon trailing. Egyptian striker Mido, starting in

on for the 19 year-old to shoot in off the post. A 3rd goal by
Steve Pienaar in the 86th sealed the points

Kuip. Captain Paul Bosvelt, back from injury,d the score in the 13th.
Cedric van der Gun drew the Tilburgers level in the 40th but Cameroon
striker Bonaventure Kalou put the Rotterdammers ahead again in the 44th. Three

reduced to 10 men in the 53rd when Jattoo Ceesay got his marching orders and
a happy Lurling, visibly shaking off his uncertain start to the season, profitted from the advantage by getting his 2nd of the

Van Marwijk and his boys ahead of their next C-L clash.

NAC are apparently not the only
Ere Divisie club to be showing some severe financial cracks this season as
their arch-rivals Willem II are discovering that they're heading for a
substantial deficit in this finacial year and substantial cuts seem
inevitable. Four staff members have already been handed their notice and

Willem
II
lineup: De Vlieger - Wau, Jaliens, Janssens, J. Mathijsen - Landzaat, Van
der Gun, Victoria - Ceesay, Sektioui, Shoukov. Heerenveen
had a fine 2-0 UEFA Cup perfomance against National Bucharest on Thursday,
even though they exitted the tournament, which indicated a revival was at
hand and it was certainly their best performance so far this season. As far
as this match is concerned, Foppe
de Haan's comment that he was sorry his team had 'lost' the match spoke
volumes about how the coach was experiencing his team's latest domestic
failure to win and how great his disappointment was in not winning all 3 points. His
team played some fine high tempo football, especially in theng half,
but failed to create realngs in front of goal. Mika Nurmela finally put them
ahead from the spot in the 37th minute, a controversial decision, but Cedric van der Gun equalized for
the 'Tricolores' in the 67th. After the
match Willem II coach Mark Wotte was also disappointed in his team's
performance, their worst this season he said.

12 Sep 2002
|
|
Willem II defender Jos van Nieuwstadt is out of
action for the coming 2 - 6 weeks after tearing a hamstring muscle during
training yesterday. The 22 year-old thinks that the actual root cause of the
injury may be a premature return to duty after suffering from a case of
concussion during the pre-season preparations. "I badly wanted to be
back in time for theng match of the season against Twente and could
well be paying the price for coming back too soon. The fact that I
experienced cramp in the hamstring in the match against NAC was a clear
warning sign!

| Willem
II's Marcel Meeuwis on loan to VVV |
12 Sep 2002
|
|
Willem II's 21 year-old midfielder Marcel Meeuwis
will be playing the rest of the season on loan to Eerste Divisie VVV.
Meeuwis, who's so far played a grand total of 7 league matches for the
'Tricolores', may well make his debut for VVV on Friday against TOP Oss.
Willem II extended the contract of their youth player this summer till 2005
and hope that he'll continue to develop faster than playing for Jong Willem
II (the Tilburgers reserve team) by getting in some match-action at VVV.

| Tom
Caluwé out of action for 4 weeks |
02 Sep 2002
|
|
Willem II's coach Mark Wotte will have to miss
Tom Caluwé for at least 4 weeks. The Belgian midfielder has been suffering
from a knee problem for the last few weeks and will undergo exploratory
surgery tomorrow. Caluwé has only been in action for 30 minutes this season
in the 1-1 draw against NAC when he came on as substitute.

| Roda beat
Willem II 1 - 0 |
31 Aug 2002
|
|
Roda
lineup: Kujovic - Sonkaya, Rudge, Luijpers, Filipovic - Sérgio, Nygaard,
van Dessel, Soetaers - Cristiano, Anastasiou.
Willem
II lineup: De Vlieger - Jaliens, Van Nieuwstadt, Janssens, J.
Mathijsen - Victoria, Landzaat, Mariana - Mghizrat, Sektioui, Shoukov.
An 88th minute goal by Yannis Anastasiou, with a
little help from Chris Janssens, gave the
'Kerkrade Crew' their second win of the season. The 'Tricolores' are
well-known for playing attractive football and Roda had been showing a
similar stylish approach to the game in theirng games of the season. There
was, however, a visible difference between the teams tonight with the home
team putting on a poor and chaotic display in theng half. The visitors
looked far better in comparison, controlled and in control of the game only
missing out on 1st half goals 'by virtue of bad-luck'. Denny Landzaat
managed to stumble over the ball when he only had goalie Vladan
kujovic to beat, Dimitri DShoukov's shjot was stopped and Youssef Mariana
grazed the bar. Willem II continued to throw away their chances after the
break while Roda got into gear and had chances of their own. Cristiano
hitting the bar and Anastasiou's shots being stopped by Geert de Vlieger. It
still looked as if the visitors would be the first to score but
Anastasiou's 88th minute freekick shot in off the head of poor Chris
Janssens for the lucky-goal match-winner.

| Hendrik
van Beelen hangs up his boots
|
26 Aug 2002
|
Willem II's Hendrik van Beelen has decided to end
his career prematurely and hung up his boots as of today. The injury-plagued
22 year-old midfielder has chosen to return to 'normal' life and has had his
contract with the Tilburg side, which ran till the summer of 2003,
terminated. A move on a loan-deal to Eerste Divisie Helmond Sport fell
through after the club made use of a clause allowing them to return Van
Beelen if he proved to be unfit for duty. The former Utrecht, Heracles
Almelo and Cambuur Leeuwarden player underwent
surgery on his knee in July and had also been suffering for some time with
an abdominal muscle problem. Van Beelen has played only 7 matches for Willem
II since joining the club in the summer of 2001.

| Willem
II and NAC draw 1-1 |
25 Aug 2002
|
Willem
II lineup: De Vlieger,Jaliens, Van Nieuwstadt, Janssens, J. Mathijsen,
D. Mathijssen, Landzaat, Mariana, Mghizrat, Sektioui, Shoukov.
NAC lineup: Babos, Colin,
Penders, Koning, Gudelj, Fehér, Slot, Schreuder, Boussaboun, Van den Eede,
Bobson.
The Brabant derby between Willem II and NAC has
ended in a 1-1 draw. The Tricoloresd well but NAC soon took control of
the match, Bart van den Eede giving them the lead before his former Den
Bosch teammate Mourad Mghizrat levelled the score 7 minutes before the break.
NAC pushed for a match-winner in the 2nd half but substitute Orlando
Engelaar missed with the best chance they had. The match saw the return of
NAC's American international Earnest Stewart, replacing Van den Eede for the
second-act, after being out with a groin injury he picked up during the
United States' World Cup campaign.

| Zlatan
scores, De Vlieger blunders |
22 Aug 2002
|
Ajax's
young Swedish striker Zlatan Ibrahimovich scored Sweden's only goal in
their 1-1 friendly draw with Russia last night. It took till the last
minute of the match before he found the back of the net but it was enough
to prevent defeat.
The evening was a less than happy one for Willem II's
Belgian keeper Geert De Vlieger whose blunder allowed Poland to snatch a
1-1. |
| Twente
lose to Willem II 0-2 |
17 Aug 2002
|
|
Twente lineup: Boschker, Ouédraego, Grujic, El-Brazi, Polak,
Heubach, Cziommer, Van der Leegte, Van der Weerden, Caïro and Booth.
Willem II lineup: De Vlieger, Jaliens, J. Mathijsen, Van Nieuwstadt, D.
Mathijssen, Janssens, Landzaat, Mariana, Ceesay, Sektioui and Shoukov. Willem
II took home the points after a disappointing match in which 60 minutes of
poor football went by before Tarik Sektioui found the back of the net in the
61st minute, picking up a Denny Landzaat long-ball to slam it past Sander
Boschker. The goal came just as the 'Tukkers' were getting into gear and it
spurred them even more into attacking the Tilburgers' goal but Jeroen
Heubach's best chance for them was cleared off the line by Kew Jaliens.
Another Landzaat ball was passed through by Mourad Mghizrat to Dmitri Shoukov
who put it away for the 0-2.

| Willem
II lose at Málaga in Intertoto semi |
01 Aug 2002
|
|
Willem II have still got a good chance of getting
through to the final of the Intertoto tournament after a 2-1 away defeat by
Málaga in their semi-final 1st leg match. Former Ajax player Kiki Musampa's
Spanish side went ahead after 34 minutes with a goal by Koke but Kew Jaliens
drew the 'Tricolores' level on the hour before Dely Valdez put away a
spot-shot a few minutes later for the 2-1. Bad news for the Dutch side was
that Jaliens picked up his 3rd yellow card of the tournament and misses the
return in Tilburg. If Willem II can win 1-0 at home next week it will be
enough to give them a place in the final. The other semi-final between
French club Troyes (who knocked out NAC last
week) and Villarreal ended in a
goalless draw. The winner of the final earns themselves a place in the UEFA
Cup.

II v. Malaga tonight in Intertoto |
31 July 2002
|
|
Willem II face a tough
opponent in their Intertoto tournament semi-final clash tonight in the shape of
Spanish side Málaga. Trainer Joaquín Peiró and former Ajax midfielder Kiki
Musampa are confident they have a good chance of beating the Dutch side but
are not going to underestimate the 'Tricolores'. Musampa has told his
coach that the Tilburgers like to play attacking football, run with the ball and
often play with 3 strikers but get frustrated if they
can't feed their attacking-frontline.

| Willem
II sign Mourad Mghizrat |
29 July 2002
|
|
After prolonged negotiations Willem II have finally
signed Den Bosch's Mourad Mghizrat on a contract for 3 years. Talks ran into
difficulties when the Tilburgers refused to pay the €200,000 Euro asking
price. The 27 year-old will now be joining an old acquaintance in coach Mark
Wotte who he worked with when the former Jong Oranje coach was trainer at Den
Bosch and Utrecht. Mourad, who had also been linked with a possible move to RBC
Roosendaal and Excelsior, was proving too much of a financial burden for Den
Bosch who were one of the clubs who had trouble qualifying for their 2002/2003
licence. Despite having played what was probably his best season ever the former
Sparta and Utrecht player was allowed to leave, even though the winger's
contract still had some time to run.

27 July 2002
|
Willem
II are through to the semi-finals of the Intertoto tournament
after beating Russian side Krilya Samara 2-0 in Tilburg tonight. After

Janssens and Tarek Sektioui and now go on to face Malaga, former Ajax
player Kiki Musampa's club.

Cup medals before ending his career in 1979 with MVV.

II trial for Polish keeper |
28 Jun 2002
|
| Willem
II have invited the Polish keeper Aleksander Klak for a trial. The 31
year-old has been playing for Belgian side Antwerp during the last 4
seasons but has not been offered a new contract there. He won an Olympic
silver medal with the Polish national team during the Barcelona games in
1992.The "Tricolores" have been looking around for a new keeper
ever since it became clear that their current no.1 Geert De Vlieger was
likely to leave Tilburg.Their 2nd choice keeper Cristophe Martin has a
groin problem which made it even more important to find a new goalie

| Willem
II have confirmed their interest in Groningen's out-of-favour striker Ali
Boussaboun. NAC have already held talks with the wing-forward who's been
told he can leave the Oosterpark side after a string of disciplinary
conflicts last season. The "Tricolores" see in him a replacement
for Yassine Abdellaoui who's involved in a legal conflict with the
Tilburgers. Boussaboun knows trainer Mark Wotte from when they were both
with Den Haag but faces competition from
Feyenoord's Leonardo I
and Brian Pinas who are also being lined up as possible
additions.
