Excelsior stormed out of the blocks tonight in Roosendaal and pinned the home team back in their own half. RBC had problems coping with the Rotterdammers' onslaught and were sloppy on the ball, which didn't help them to get to grips with the flow of play. The visitors should have done more with their advantage but Cecilio Lopes, Brian Pinas and Saïd Boutahar were all less-than-sharp tonight while RBC-keeper Maikel Aerts was well-on-form and dealt smartly with their attempts at goal. The home team began to be encouraged by their opponents' lack of success and Ebou Sillah hit the bar but it was Henk Vos who actually put them ahead close to the break. The 2nd act was more entertaining and Excelsior trainer Adrie Koster's decision to bring on some extra firepower in the shape of Mounir el Hamdaoui bore fruit when Brian Pinas' through ball found Saïd Boutahar waiting to seal his fine performance tonight with the equalizer in the 66th. Excelsior had the chances to snatch the points but a cat-like save by the excellent Aerts kept the score level till the whistle.

They stay stuck at the bottom of the table while RBC climb to 15th.

12 Nov 2002

Nordin Wooter will miss tonight's Ere Divisie match between RBC Roosendaal and FC Groningen after the former Ajax player developed a mysterious shoulder injury which forced him to drop out of the 2-0 defeat by AZ on Saturday after 25 minutes.  It's an important match for both teams as Groningen are still stuck at the bottom of the table (the only Ere Divisie side not to have won a single match so far) while RBC are in 15th place and need the points to get clear of the danger zone.

Dmitri Shoukov (28th) and Jattoo Ceesay (57th) gave them a comfortable 3-0 advantage and Geert den Ouden (77th) scored a consolation goal for the Roosendaalers.

Utrecht and RBC share points 2-2

06 Oct 2002

Utrecht lineup: Wapenaar - Vreven, Van Mol, Schut, Touzani - Bosschaart, De Jong, Tanghe - Van den Bergh, Kuijt, Roiha.

RBC lineup: Aerts - Keller, Nascimento, Oliseh - Fleur, De Graaf, Maseland, Wooter, Tininho - Den Ouden, Vos.

Utrecht had taken a fair old 1-3 knock on Thursday against Legia Warsaw, apart from all the other unpleasantness that took place. Foeke Booy's team clearly needed to revive their sagging spirits and restore some honour while RBC were riding on the wave of their 4-2 win against a neglectful Feyenoord last weekend. Utrecht had more than their fair share of chances to score against RBC this afternoon and were clearly the stronger team but failed to convert their superiority into goals-on-the-board. Foeke Booy's boys wasted most of their scoring opportunities while RBC had far fewer but made better use of them. Dirk Kuijt put the Domstad side ahead in the 39th but Geert den Ouden drew the visitors level in the 43rd. Chris Dekker probably never expected to be so close to winning 3 points at the Nieuw Galgenwaard after De Graaf put his team ahead in the 50th. His dream didn't last long as Utrecht pushed forward in search of an equalizer and most of the remaining action took place in the visitors' half. It took till Alje Schut pulled a last minute goal out of the bag in the 90th before they got a point for their efforts.

RBC in surprise 4-2 against Feyenoord

28 Sep 2002

RBC lineup: Aerts - Keller, Nascimento, Oliseh, Fleur - de Graaf, Heije, Tininho - den Ouden, Wooter, Vos.

Feyenoord lineup: Zoetebier - Emerton, van Wonderen, Paauwe, Rzasa - Song C G, Bosvelt, Ono, Pardo, Buffel - van Hooijdonk.

Feyenoord probably thought they were in for a relatively easy 90 minutes football tonight but it all went wrong and they mostly had themselves to blame. Belgian talent Thomas Buffeld the score for the Rotterdammers in the 28th as everything seemed in order. Feyenoord then failed to press home their on-pitch superiority in the form of some goals-in-the-back-of-the-net and paid the price when David Nascimento equalized for RBC in the 43rd, with a header from a Henk Vos cross.  The Rotterdammers had been warned by earlier moments of danger during theng 45 minutes and it was therefore no surprise when a refreshed RBC went ahead with a Geert den Ouden goal 9 minutes into the 2nd half. Although, technically speaking, Feyenoord continued to dominate the play after the break Henk Vos scored a 3rd for the home team on the hour. A P-Air free-kick-special narrowed the gap a little in the 78th before Peter Maseland put the 4-2 on the board in the 90th minute. Bert van Marwijk and his boys will not be pleased!

RBC to double stadium capacity

27 Sep 2002

RBC Roosendaal have ambitious plans for increasing their Vast & Goed Stadion's capacity to 10,500 seats. It'll provide room for double the current number of spectators while there will also be an increase in the number of business and commercial  units. "It's an absolute precondition but we're close to agreement with several commercial partners whose financial commitments will allow us to complete the construction-work," said club director Paul van der Kraan.
RBC miss Sillah for two months

26 Sep 2002

RBC Roosendaal will have to miss Ebou Sillah for the next two months after the 22 year-old Gambian failed to avoid a crunching tackle during training yesterday and ended up with a fractured shinbone. Luyten out for the coming year

24 Sep 2002

RBC lose to Ajax 2-3

21 Sep 2002

RBC lineup: Aerts - Keller, Nascimento, Oliseh - Fleur, De Graaf, Heije, Tininho - Wooter, Vos, Sillah.

Ajax lineup: Stekelenburg - Trabelsi, Yakubu, Chivu, O'Brien - Galásek, Pienaar, Maxwell - Van der Meyde, Ibrahimovic, Wamberto.

Ajax and PSV are the only teams not to have dropped a point so far this season though the Amsterdammers made unnecessarily hard work of dealing with RBC Roosendaal tonight, where Henk Voss celebrated his 400th professional match, and almost gave away a 0-3 lead in the closing stages of the match. They kicked-off at a cracking pace and Maxwell, Van der Meyde and Zlatan, especially, had several good chances to go ahead in theng quarter of an hour but his efforts were parried by Aerts and the post. It took till favourite-son Jari Litmanen appeared for the back of the net to be finally found. Appearing as as substitute for young Brazilian Maxwell, he was once more quick to make his presence felt, feeding Zlatan Ibrahimovic with a ball that the Swedish international sent past goalie Maikel Aerts for the 1-0 in the 58th. A bit of a downer is the news of his injury, which the Fin picked up 9 minutes after appearing. Litmanen doesn't want to risk a more serious thigh muscle injury with the Champions League match against Inter Milan at the door and decided to drop out to prevent any further strain. Tomás Galásek increased the lead with a 2nd in the 67th with a beauty of a strike. When Cristian Chivu put away a spot-shot in 75th, for a hands-ball by former Ajax player Melvin Fleur, the match seemed wrapped up. However, RBC fought back with goals by former Ajax striker Nordin Wooter in the 82nd and Geert den Ouden in the 88th that were not quite enough to earn the Roosendaalers a point but did make the last minutes tense and exciting to watch.

Ramon Luyten injured again

18 Sep 2002

Ramon Luyten has had to delay his return to active duty at RBC after damaging a knee tendon in a match with the Rosendaalers' reserve team, Jong RBC. The midfielder will be out of action for at least another 4 weeks. It's a blow for Luyten who was ironically enough on the way back from an earlier knee-injury picked up in the Amstel Cup match against Baronie.
Vitesse beat RBC 3-0

13 Sep 2002

Vitesse lineup:  Jevric, Cornelisse, Zeman, Fränkel, Levchenko, Hofs, T. Janssen, Martel, Claessens, Peeters, Mbamba.

RBC Roosendaal lineup:  Aerts, Keller, Nascimento, David, Oliseh, Fleur, De Graaf, Heije, Sillah, Tininho, Wooter, Vos.

Vitesse have revenged themselves for their 0-1 defeat earlier this season by Zwolle with a 3-0 win tonight. The Arnhemmers were clearly motivated to erase the memory of the previous outcome of 14 days ago and the visitors were overwhelmed by the attacking style of Mike Snoei's team. Belgian forward Bob Peeters returned to the lineup for the first time this season and repayed the trust shown in him with an 11th minute goal. It was a neat way for him to celebrate his 50th appearance in the Ere Divisie. After the break Nicky Hofs scored a 2nd in the 68th while a last minute 3rd by Kalle Sone secured the points to take Vitesse, who now have earned themselves 6 points, past RBC, who have 4 points.

Björn Daelemans to leave RBC

02 Sep 2002

Björn Daelemans has been told he can leave RBC Roosendaal, despite the fact that his contract still runs till 2004. The 25 year-old forward is superfluous to the club's needs, since the arrival of former Ajax striker Nordin Wooter and Gambian striker Ebou Sillah, and would only be trainer Chris Dekker's 3rd choice for a strike-role. The new goal-getting duo scored a goal each during Sunday's 3-0 win against Heerenveen.
RBC beat Heerenveen 3-0

01 Sep 2002

RBC lineup: Aerts - Keller, Nascimento, Oliseh, Fleur - De Graaf, Heije, Tininho - Wooter, Vos, Sillah.

Heerenveen lineup: Vonk - Bakkati, Hansson, De Nooijer, Ebbinge - Radomski, Hansma, Jensen - Nurmela, Denneboom, Samardzic.

In a suprising result RBC beat a hopelessly weak operating Heerenveen while also managing themselves to not concede any goals-against for the first time in their Ere Divisie record, thanks in part to Maikel Aerts good-goalkeeping! After their defeat by RKC last weekend Foppe de Haan's team seem to have lost their way while Henk Vos has seen the most balls hit the back-of-his-net (8 in total) than any other keeper in the Ere Divisie this season. Everything that could go wrong did go wrong for the Frieslanders and even the appearance of latest signing Abgar Barsom didn't help to swing things their way. First half goals by Henk Vos (a header in the 2nd minute) and former Ajax forward and new signing Nordin Wooter in the 38th, pouncing on a blunder by the usually dependable Gerárd de Nooijer, gave the home team a comfortable half-time lead. RBC were often as shaky in defence as the visitors but Heerenveen just couldn't find a way to profit from the home team's weaknesses and another of the Roosendaalers' new signings, Ebou Sillah, picked up a pass from Nordin Wooter to take the final-score to 3-0 in the 66th. The win takes RBC to 7th place while Heerenveen sink to 17th with only one point from 3 games!

RBC miss Hellemons for 3 weeks

28 Aug 2002

RBC Roosendaal will miss Eric Hellemons for the coming three weeks after the 31 year-old defender picked up a hamstring injury in last Saturday's 2-0 defeat by De Graafschap. Medical examination has revealed that the tendon has been torn where it attaches to the left-knee. It's the latest injury-blow for Hellemons, who missed much of the last two seasons due to injuries. Mister-RBC, as he's known, is in his 15th season with the Roosendaalers but only played 31 matches in the last two years.
De Graafschap beat RBC 2 - 0

24 Aug 2002

De Graafschap lineup: Wevers - Bot, Vreman, Bakens, Hermans, Culina, Van Leerdam, Turpijn, Hertog - Van Vossen, Valeev.
RBC lineup: Aerts - Keller, Nascimento, David, Hellemons, Oliseh, Heije, Piqué, Fleur, Wooter - Vos, Sillah.
De Graafschap had few problems in this win against newly promoted RBC Roosendaal. In their Vijverberg stadium they booked a simple 1-0 win thanks to goals by Peter van Vossen and Ruslan Valeev while for David Nascimento the defeat was a bitter way to celebrate his 300th professional match. Peter
van Vossend the score for the homeside in the 22nd minnute of the game. He should have made it 2 - 0 at the beginning of the second half after being awarded a penalty but the ex-Feyenoorder shot wide. In the 71st minute, he made ammends for his mistake with a fine assist, allowing Ruslan Valeev to put the final 2 - 0 score on the board. Even the presence of former Ajax player Nordin Wooter, making his debut, couldn't help them to squeeze out a point and the damage could have been even greater de bezoekers if Van Vossen hadn't missed his spot-shot!

22 Aug 2002

Feyenoord's Brazilian right-back Tininho is on the move again in his search for a new club and is on trial this week with newly promoted RBC Roosendaal. He's been given two days to impress coach Chris Dekker that he's worth adding to the squad
Tininho on trial with RBC

22 Aug 2002

Feyenoord's Brazilian right-back Tininho is on the move again in his search for a new club and is on trial this week with newly promoted RBC Roosendaal. He's been given two days to impress coach Chris Dekker that he's worth adding to the squad after unsuccessful trials with AZ and Belgian side KV Mechelen. "A return to Brazil is not one of my options (yet) after the 3 great years I've had in Holland. RBC is a good team, and looking for a midfielder, so hopefully I'll be luckier this time!"
RBC sign Nordin Wooter

21 Aug 2002

Earlier interest on the part of Belgian club AA Gent and Portugese side Belenenses failed to translate into the hoped-for deal.
RBC miss Ramon Luyten as season kicks-off

14 Aug 2002

Ramon Luyten is out of action for a minimum of two weeks after the RBC midfielder picked up a knee injury in last Saturday's Amstel Cup match against De Baronie. It's the latest injury-blow for trainer Chris Dekker whose newly promoted team kicks-off in the Ere Divisie without Melvin Fleur and Björn Daelemans.
No RBC move for Van der Gun

06 Aug 2002

Cedric van der Gun has decided not to move to newly promoted RBC Roosendaal. The Ajax forward had asked RBC-manager Paul van der Kraan for some more time to think about the offer he'd been made but didn't get it! Talking to Dutch provincial newspaper the 'Brabants Dagblad' Van der Kraan said, "He only wants to use that extra time to see if he can find another club to sign for while what we need at the moment is clarity and a player(s) who actually wants to play for us".
RBC reject Renfurm, give Steijn extra week

06 Aug 2002

RBC Roosendaal have decided not to offer Michael Renfurm a contract. The 26 year-old wing-forward is currently under contract to German side LR Ahlen who turn out in the Bundesliga's 2nd division. Trainer Chris Dekker remained unimpressed by the former Sparta and NEC player's skills. In contrast 28 year-old former Den Haag and NAC midfielder Maurice Steijn, who's also been on trial, will be given an extra week to earn himself a deal.
RBC still want left-winger

16 July 2002

Newly promoted RBC Roosendaal are not finished with adding new players to their squad for next season. They would like to add a left-winger and are targeting Mourad Mghizrat  ( Den Bosch) and Maikel Renfurm (LR Ahlen). Renfurm previously played for Sparta, NEC, Icelandic side KR and Scottish side St. Mirren before moving to LR Ahlen in the 2nd Division of the German Bundesliga. RBC have already acquired David Nascimento (RKC Waalwijk), Bike Oliseh (FC Utrecht), Mitchell Pique (Ajax), Ferdi Claessen (Feyenoord) and goalies Erwin Friebel (Feyenoord) and Maikel Aerts (FC Den Bosch).
RBC to sign Maikel Aerts

15 July 2002

RBC Roosendaal are on the point of signing former Den Bosch and Germinal Beerschot Antwerpen goalkeeper Maikel Aerts. The deal is practically done, except for a few small details, and he should be signing a cntract fro two years with the freshly promoted side in the course of today. Aerts, who was sidelined at Den Bosch last year when he was caught with traces of cocaine in his blood, will be competing for a place in goal with Wim de Ron, who's currently sick with a gastro-intestinal infection.
Steijn gets RBC trial

09 July 2002

Maurice Steijn has been offered a trial with RBC Roosendaal during the coming 2 - 3 weeks. The 28 year-old former Den Haag defensive midfielder has been denied a contract extension with NAC and Chris Dekker has decided to give him a chance to prove himself. Steijn has played a total of 134 league matches for ADO Den Haag and NAC. "I'm fit again after a long period of injury and dying to play some football!" said Steijn.
RBC change tactics for next season

05 July 2002

RBC will not be the same team who came out fighting in the Ere Divisie two seasons ago only to be rewarded with relegation. Instead their new trainer Chris Dekker is preaching caution (and rightly so) to the reduced squad he's got to work with. An important role will be given to the veterans Henk Vos and David Nascimento and there are high expectations of newcomers Azubike Oliseh (FC Utrecht), Mitchell Pique (Ajax), Melvin Fleur (Anderlecht) and Erwin Friebel (Feyenoord). The club's striker Jeffrey Kooistra has hung up his boots and will be acting as Dekkers' assistant.
RBC hire Melvin Fleur

04 Jun 2002

Anderlecht's Melvin Fleur will play for newly re-promoted RBC next season in the Ere Divisie. The 20 year-old left-back is a product of Ajax's youth academy and moved to Belgium in the summer of 2001 along with another young Ajax player Sherjill MacDonald. RKC Waalwijk and NAC had been interested in the defender but he failed to impress them sufficiently to earn a deal.
RBC sign second young Feyenoorder

26 Jun 2002

Newly promoted RBC Roosendaal have added another young Feyenoorder in 19 year-old Ferdi Claessen who's signed a contract for a year. Claessen came up through Feyenoord's youth academy and played for Excelsior's youth team during the last two seasons. He's a midfielder who plays equally well in a central position as on the left flank. Between the age of 14 and 18 he played for Holland's youth teams and is the 2nd Feyenoord player to join the Roosendaalers after the earlier signing of goalie Erwin Friebel.
RBC's Jeffrey Kooistra ends career

21 Jun 2002

Jeffrey Kooistra has decided to end his playing career after hearing from RBC's new trainer Chris Dekker that there's no place for him in the squad. The 33 year-old midfielder has been offered a job with the club's technical staff and will be joint assistant trainer alongside Koos Waslander. Kooistra played for Volendam, Haarlem, Heerenveen, NEC, Groningen, Helmond Sport and RBC. He scored 50 goals in 286 matches.
RBC miss Viedma till winter break

20 Jun 2002

Newly promoted RBC Roosendaal have already had their first bit of bad news before the new season is anywhere near kicking-off!  Juan Viedma will be out of action till the winter break after picking up a serious achilles injury in the last playoff match of last season against Den Bosch. The 27 year-old central-defender was fitted with a plaster-cast yesterday and will not be available for the coming 6 months!
RBC return Van Loenhout to Waalwijk

20 Jun 2002

RBC's new trainer Chris Dekker has told John van Loenhout that his hire contract will not be renewed and the midfielder can return to RKC Waalwijk. The Roosendaalers have just hired Ajax's Mitchell Piqué to play in the left-half position.
RBC add Oliseh plus Heije and Piqué

14 Jun 2002

RBC Roosendaal are reinforcing their defence in preparation for their 2nd Ere Divisie adventure and, after already signing David Nascimento and Melvin Fleur, have added Utrecht's Azubuike Oliseh plus Ajax's wing-defenders Pascal Heije and Mitchell Piqué to their squad for next season. Two seasons ago RBC let in 90 goals and have no intention on making the same mistake again! Oliseh was under contract at the Domstad side till 2003, and has been allowed a free-transfer after spending the last few months on loan to Finnish side FC Jokerit. Piqué has only played 4 matches in 3 seasons for Ajax, was on loan to Haarlem last season where the 22 year-old played 14 matches and the season before that was on loan to Twente. Twenty-two year-old Heije has been on loan to the Roosendaalers for the last 2 seasons. RBC have now acquired 4 defenders and are looking to add another two Den Bosch players to the squad.

RKC's Nascimento signs for RBC

31 May 2002

David Nascimento is leaving RKC Waalwijk for RBC Roosendaal. The 35 year-old Portugese defender has signed a contract for one season with the newly repromoted side who are the 4th Dutch club he'll play for after earlier spells with Roda JC, FC Utrecht and lastly RKC Waalwijk.
RBC want Van der Luer

27 May 2002

RBC Roosendaal are interested in signing Roda veteran Eric van der Luer. The newly promoted club had already expressed a desire to add the 36 year-old midfielder to their squad on condition that they gained promotion. The former MVV and FC Assent player's contract with Roda runs out on July 1st and, although he'd been offered a job with the Kerkrade club's commercial staff, he would prefer to carry on playing for one more year. So far he's also being targeted by VVV but a move to Roosendaal looks more likely.
RBC back in Ere Divisie

26 May 2002

RBC Roosendaal is back in the Eredivisie after a 0-3 win against Cambuur with goals by Peter Maseland (26th) and Henk Vos (47th and 64th). Den Bosch, who won their last playoff 0-3 against Emmen, find themselves back in the Eerste Divisie. They were only a point behind RBC with a match to go but goals by Bart van den Eede (16th and 18th) and Bas Peys (64th) are now of only mere statistical value after RBC's away win. The Roosendaalers made their Ere Divisie debut in the 2000/2001 season and immediately set a new record by running up 28 defeats. They will truly have a fight on their hands surviving beyond the coming season.
