Ji-Sung
and have also shown interest in 3 other Korean players: midfielder Lee
Young-Pyo, left winger Lee Chun-Soo and striker Kim Dong-Hyun.

fans cut politician's hair |
30 Dec 2002
|
|
Dutch
politician Emile Ratelband had a close shave yesterday after a meeting with
a group of hardcore PSV fans. Ratelband had agreed to meet the supporters to discuss the
position of Dutch football supporters in Holland. Within a few minutes of
the meeting beginning two groups of supporters pounced upon the politician.
One group seized him from behind, whilst someone in the other group took out a pair of
scissors and cut off Ratelband's famous fringe.

target Lee Young-Pyo |
22 Dec 2002
|
|
PSV have set their sights on another South
Korean international, Lee Young-Pyo, and hope to shortlytalks with his
present club, Anyang LG. The 25 year old left-midfield player, who's been
capped 50 times, has often expressed his desire to be reunited with PSV's
former South Korean coach, Guus Hiddink. If the deal goes through he will be
joining international team-mate Park Ji-sung who
recently signed for PSV.

Winter Champions after 1-0 v Vitesse |
21 Dec 2002
|
| PSV
are the winter champions in Holland's Ere Divisie after a less than
convincing 1-0 win at home to Vitesse, their fifth in a row. With a
nervous Jelle ten Rouwelaar replacing Waterreus in goal and an equally
insecure defence PSV only managed to scrape through tonight's match.
Wilfred Bouma put them ahead with a freekick-goal in the 42nd minute but
Guus Hiddink's boys almost gave away the points with their defensive
blunders. Mike Snoei's team have not won a match in their last 6 outings
and, with only 16 points from 17 matches to show for the season so far, go
into the break in 14th place. |
| PSV
sign Park Ji-Sung |
21 Dec 2002
|
|
PSV have completed the signing of
South Korean international Park Ji-Sung and he'll be arriving in Eindhoven
during the winter-break. The 21 year-old striker, who currently plays for
Japanese side Kyoto Purple Sanga, has put pen to paper on a deal for three
and a half years and worth €4.3 million Euros. Park joined Kyoto in 2000
straight from his Korean high-school team and impressed during the World
Cup, with 7 international caps to his name, and a move to either Feyenoord
or PSV has been rumoured for some time.

| Van
Nistelrooy in 2005 return to PSV? |
17 Dec 2002
|
|
Dutch international Ruud van
Nistelrooy has been expressing his wish to return to play for, and even
captain, PSV in 2005. Talking to the Eindhoven side's press officer, Pedro
Salazar-Hewitt, the Man United striker has been explaining that he'd like to
win a few more prizes with United in the next two years before coming back
home in 2005, and would be proud to get the chance to lead PSV to a few of
their own!

| PSV's
Addo on loan to Roda? |
16 Dec 2002
|
|
PSV's Eric Addo is set for
a loan-spell with Roda JC after the winter-break. The Limburgers are
currently negotiating the deal which should see the 24 year-old Ghanaian
defender play for Wiljan Vloet's team for the rest of the season. Addo has
seen little action in Eindhoven since joining the club in the summer of
1999, partly due to a string of injuries, and has only made 23 appearances.
The former Club Brugge player turned down an earlier loan move to Groningen
and will be a much neede reinforcement for the shaky 'Kerkrade Crew' defence.

| Ajax
lose 4-2 to PSV |
15 Dec 2002
|
|
Ajax suffered a painful 2-4
home defeat to rivals PSV this afternoon and hand over the no.1 spot to the
Eindhoven side. Young talent Arjen Robben put the visitors ahead
with a fine shot after soloing through Ajax's defense. Zlatan Ibrahimovich
had a couple of great chances saved by Waterreus, and another disallowed for
offside, before putting away a rebound for the equalizer in the 27th. Three minutes into the 2nd act, Ere Divisie top-scorer Mateja
Kezman put PSV ahead with a close range shot and Ajax could begin all over again.
Ajax's man of the match,Andy van der Meyde took care of a
rebound in the 55th to draw Ronald Koeman's team level. Two goals by
Vennegoor of Hesselink, the first a controversial header in the 57th
preceded by a foul and accompanied by another, pouncing on a rebound in the 78th
minute,
knock Ajax off top-place and maintain PSV's record of being unbeaten in Ere
divisie matches in the ArenA.
|
| Chivu
and Kezman fit for Ere Divisie clash |
14 Dec 2002
|
|
Good news for both PSV and Ajax
ahead of tomorrow's Ere Divisie clash in the ArenA as both Cristian Chivu
and Mateja Kezman have been declared fit to play. It had been originally
thought that Ajax's Romanian international would be out for at least two
weeks but he's made a speedy recovery and will be glad not to miss the
topper against their rivals. Hatem Trablesi, Rafael van der Vaart and Joey
Didulica will be missing in the Ajax lineup. PSV's Yugoslavian striker had
picked up a slight ankle injury but will be available to play, as will
Danish right-back Kasper Břgelund, back after a month's absence.

| Utrecht
lose to PSV 1-3 |
08 Dec 2002
|
|
Utrecht
lineup: Harald Wapenaar, Stijn
Vreven, Patrick Zwaanswijk, Alje Schut, Tom van Mol (58. Etienne
Shew-Atjon), Jean-Paul de Jong (82. Jordy Zuidam), Stefaan Tanghe (73. Arco
Jochemsen), Pascal Bosschaart, Dave van den Bergh, Dirk Kuijt, Igor
Gluscevic.
PSV
lineup: Ronald Waterreus, Ernest Faber, André Ooijer, Remco
van der Schaaf, Wilfred Bouma, Dennis Rommedahl, Theo Lucius, Johann Vogel,
Arjen Robben (54. Georgi Gakhokidze), Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink, Mateja
Kezman.
PSV profitted from
Ajax's away draw at De Graafschap, and Feyenoord's defeat at Heerenveen,
putting
Guus Hiddink's boys only one
point behind Ajax with this convincing performance against Utrecht. It took
only two minutes for Yugoslavian striker, and Ere Divisie top-scorer, Mateja
Kezman to put them ahead. He headed in Dennis Rommedahl's pass and, three minutes later,
hit the post with a shot. André Ooijer put the rebound away for the 0-2.
Utrecht were shocked but pulled themselves together and had the best of the
remaining 1st half play. Dave van den Bergh's was a well deserved goal on the stroke
of half-time for the Domstad side who were encouraged to go for the
equalizer after the break. Unfortunately for Foeke Booy's team it was Kezman
who stretched PSV's lead to 1-3 in the 66th, lobbing the ball over
Wapenaar's head to
seal the points with his 17th goal of the season.

| PSV's
Leandro remains out till New Year |
06 Dec 2002
|
|
PSV's young Brazilian star
Leandro will remain out of action till after the winter-break while he
continues his recovery from the groin injury picked up on October 19th in
the Ere Divisie clash against Roda. He's the 3rd PSV player to stay on the
injured list till the New Year after Mark van Bommel and Kevin Hofland.
Leandro spent the whole of November recuperating in Brazil and only returned
to Eindhoven last Wednesday where, after examination by the club's medical
staff, it was decided that it would be prudent to give him some extra time
to fully get over his injury.

out till after winter-break |
03 Dec 2002

van Bommel on the sick-list at PSV after having an operation to remove a
piece of loose cartilage from his right ankle. The defender, who's been
troubled by the injury since the 4-0 Champions League defeat by Arsenal on
September 25th, tried to make his return at the end of October but will now
remain out of action till after the winter-break.

03 Dec 2002
|
|
Former PSV player Ovidiu Stinga
has started a 3 week trial with Eerste Divisie side Helmond Sport. The 30
year-old Romanian international (30 caps), who played for PSV between 1996
and 2001 before moving on to play for Spanish side Salamanca, is currently
without a club since his deal with Dynamo Bucharest ran out last
August.

- Rommedahl, van der Schaaf, Vogel, Robben - Kezman, Vennegoor of Hesselink
Willem
II lineup: De Vlieger - Wau, Jaliens, Janssens, J. Mathijsen -
Landzaat, Victoria, Caluwé - Ceesay, Sektioui, Shoukov
PSV climb to 1st place on goal
average after beating Willem II 2-1 at home. In a dismal game Jan Vennegoor
of Hesselinkd in the 14th minute, cleverly heading in a corner. In
the 22nd minute Willem II's Jatoo Ceesay was sent off for what looked
like a perfectly 'correct'
tackle, reducing the visitors to 10 men.
2 minutes into injury time of theng act the Ere Divisie's top scorer Mateja Kezman netted
his 15th of the season. The second half had barely began when Cedric v.d. Gun got one back for the
visiting team with a fine
shot for the final 2-1 scoreline.

| Anderlecht
want to hire PSV's Lamey |
29 Nov 2002
|
|
Belgian side Anderlecht want to
hire PSV's Michael Lamey for the rest of the season. The 23 year-old
defender has seen little action this season with Kasper Břgelund being
preferred for his position. Neiether PSV nor Lamey are currently commenting
on the offer. Lamey joined the Eindhoven side from RKC last summer after
being contracted by PSV 18 months ago and allowed to stay in Waalwijk to
ripen before the move to the Philips Stadium. At the time Anderlecht
were also interested in signing the former Ajax player but he preferred a
move to PSV.

| Hofland
to have keyhole surgery |
28 Nov 2002
|
|
Kevin Hofland is going into
hospital next Tuesday for a keyhole operation to assess the damage to his
right ankle. The 23 year-old defender has been troubled by the injury since
he picked it up in the Champions League match against Arsenal (0-4) on September
25th.
|
| Hofland
in long-term injury fears |
26 Nov 2002
|
|
Kevin Hofland will be going into
hospital tomorrow for further examination of his injured ankle. PSV's 23
year-old defender has been troubled by the painful joint since the C-L duel
with Arsenal back in September. An MRI-scan has revealed a cartilage problem
that the Dutch interational fears could turn into a 'Van Basten-type'
long-term injury. He travels to Rotterdam for a second-opinion tomorrow
which will hopefully shed more light on the exact nature/extent of the
injury.

| PSV's
Leandro resumes training next week |
24 Nov 2002
|
|
PSV's young Brazilaian star
Leandro do Bomfim will resume training on Thursday after an absence due to a
groin injury he picked up in the 0-0 draw against Roda on October 19th. He's
been recovering at home in Brazil but will probably not be fit enough in
time for next weekend's match against Willem II.

| Groningen
end talks with PSV's Addo |
24 Nov 2002
|
| PSV
hopeful that Park will sign soon |
24 Nov 2002
|
|
The PSV delegation has returned
from talks with South Korean international Park Ji-Sung without his
signature on a contract, although technical manager Frank Arnesen has said
that he's hopeful that the Kyoto Purple Sanga player will be heading for
Eindhoven this winter. Three meetings were held in which a deal for three
and a half years has been discussed and, although there are several other
clubs with more financial clout interested in signing Park, Arnesen says
that PSV have other factors in their favour. Perhaps the reunion with coach
Guus Hiddink, who looked after the South Korean team, is still an important
reason for Park to choose PSV above Feyenoord and other clubs chasing
him.

| Groningen
want PSV's Eric Addo |
22 Nov 2002
|
|
FC Groningen are hoping to add
Eric Addo to the squad on a loan-deal from PSV for the rest of the season. The
Ghanaian defender has been under contract to the Eindhoven club since 1999
(his contract runs out in the summer of 2004) but a string of injury
problems has meant he's seen little 1st team action. Groningen have been
negotiating the move since Tuesday, and talked to Addo himelf on Wednesday,
but the 24 year-old has asked for some time to consider the offer.

| Van
Bommel out till winter-break |
19 Nov 2002
|
|
PSV's fears that they could miss
captain Mark van Bommel for a while have been confirmed after hospital
examination revealed that the midfielder has torn a groin muscle. The 25
year-old international will need 10 days of complete rest before starting
his recuperation and will be out till the winter-break. It's the 4th
injured player in Eindhoven during the last few days after Kevin Hofland and Arnold Bruggink
dropped out with ankle injuries while Kasper Břgelund has a calf injury.

| Van
Bommel pulls out of Oranje - Germany |
18 Nov 2002
|
|
PSV's Mark van Bommel has pulled
out of Oranje's squad to face Germany in Wednesday's friendly and it is
feared that Van Bommel could be out till after the winter-break. Dick
Advocaat has been informed of the bad news after the midfielder picked up a
groin strain during yesterday's 1-2 defeat by Feyenoord. Teammate Kevin
Hofland has already pulled out with an ankle problem.

| PSV
lose to Feyenoord 1-2 |
17 Nov 2002
|
|
PSV
lineup:Waterreus - Břgelund, Ooijer, Faber, Bouma - Rommedahl, van Bommel,
Vogel, Robben - Vennegoor of Hesselink, Kezman
Feyenoord
lineup:Lodewijks - Song C G, van Wonderen, Paauwe, Rzasa - Emerton, Bosvelt,
Ono, Lurling - Buffel, Bombarda.
PSV drop valuable points and their top of the table position after this
defeat by Feyenoord. PSV will undoubtedly feel robbed of an early goal when
referee René Temmink disallowed a Mateja Kezman goal, Patrick Lodewijks
allegedly being hindered by Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink. Nonetheless, Guus Hiddink's lads had several
other chances to go ahead but lacked the sharpness to get them into the back of
the net. 'Japanese Wizard' Shinji Ono showed them how in the 29th, rounding
off a nice one-two between Mariano Bombarda and Thomas Buffel with a fine
shot for the 0-1. It signalled a PSV decline and 14 minutes later Thomas Buffel made it 0-2
for the Rotterdammers with a smart lob over Waterreus' head in the 43rd. Danish
international Dennis Rommedahl got one back for the home team in the 54th as
they team improved their performance while still having trouble creating
thengs needed. Feyenoord now climb
to within one point of Guus Hiddink's team.
|
| Hofland

16 Nov 2002
|
|

16 Nov 2002
|
|
PSV have signed the young Swiss
player John Vonlanthen, who's been training with the squad this week,
on a 4-year contract. The 16 year-old will stay with his current club
Young Boys until january 2004 when he'll arrive in Eindhoven. Vonlanthen was
keen to sign with the club where his idol Ronaldo got his kickstart to
stardom.
|
| Van
Raiij to step down early? |
13 Nov 2002
|
| PSV's
chairman Harry van Raaij is considering stepping down in May 2004. His
contract actually runs out at the end of 2005 and he wants to give the
club sufficient time to find his successor before leaving. If none is
found to follow him he will serve out his deal at the Philips stadium. |
| Arsenal
and PSV draw 0-0 |
12 Nov 2002
|
| PSV
have lost their chance to continue in the UEFA cup after this goalless
draw at Highbury. Arsenal were reduced to 10 men in the 35th when Kolo
Habib Touré picked up his 2nd yellow card but the visitors were unable to
profit from the numerical advantage. Apart from a Kezman effort early
on in theng half PSV came up with very little in terms of goal
getting opportunities but Arsenal were no better and Touré's disapparance
for an early shower was the most noteworthy fact in a dull 45 minutes.
After the break 'The Gunners' went on the attack and played much better
football but PSV had the chances, only Kezman and Robben failed to put
them away. Wiltord came close to getting a match-winner for Arsenal 15
minutes before time and the news of Auxerre's lead elswhere spurred Guus
Hiddink's team on to get a goal. Arsenal hung on till the whistle and it
was a disappointed PSV who head home to Eindhoven tomorrow. |
| PSV
struggle to 3-1 against Heerenveen |
09 Nov 2002
|
|
PSV
lineup: Waterreus - Břgelund, Hofland,
Ooijer, Bouma - Rommedahl - van Bommel, Vogel, Robben - Bruggink, Kezman. Heerenveen
lineup: Vonk - Venema, Hansma, Hansson, Edman - Nurmela, Radomski, Väyrynen
- Klompe - de Jong, Denneboom.
PSV sneak past Ajax into pole
position with this 3-1 home win against Heerenveen but had to struggle to
earn the points. The visitors went ahead
in the 52nd when Petter Hansson blasted in a 35 metre missile. It finally
woke up the home team who'd looked very ineffective till then. In response
to the goal Guus Hiddink brought on Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink whose
hard work and heading-ability breathed new life into a lacklustre team. His
presence stimulated Mateja
Kezman into a better performance and the Yugoslavian striker put away two goals
in 15 minutes to put his team ahead. A red card for Heerenveen's Tieme
Klompe reduced the Frieslanders to 10 men and a 3rd PSV goal by Mark van Bommel (86th)
sealed the points for Guus
Hiddink's team.
|
| Waterreus
doubtful for PSV - Heerenveen |
08 Nov 2002
|
|
PSV's goalie Ronald Waterreus is
doubtful for tomorrow's Ere Divisie clash with Heerenveen. An abdominal
muscle problem forced him to halt training today and, as a precaution, coach
Guus Hiddink has called-up 3rd choice goalie Gino Coutinho. If Waterreus
can't play he'll be replaced by 21 year-old reserve keeper Jelle ten
Rouwelaar who made his Ere Divisie debut in the match against Zwolle (1-3).
|
| Twente
and PSV in 0-0 draw |
02 Nov 2002
|
|
Twente
II
lineup: Boschker - El-Brazi, Pothuizen,
Grujic, Heubach - Cairo, Cziommer, Van de Paar, Polak - Booth, Cavens.
PSV
lineup: Waterreus - Břgelund, Ooijer, Hofland, Bouma - Rommedahl, Van
Bommel, Vogel, Robben - Bruggink, Kezman.
Twente and PSV have both been in good form
during their last few matches but tonight's display in the Arke
Stadion was a pale reflection of those performances. Most of the match
took place in midfield and there few goal scoring chances for either side, youth player
Collins John's professional debut for the 'Tukkers' being the most
noteworthy detail. "We played a naive and sloppy
match, in the first half playing the ball around with no idea of what to do
with it," said a disappointed Guus Hiddink. PSV stay table-toppers with 24 points
from 10 matches but Ajax can dislodge them on Sunday if the Amsterdammers
beat Willem II. Twente coach René Vandereycken is happy to have earned a
point and his team is now unbeaten in 5 matches in 13th place on 10
points.

| PSV
make profit but warn of deficit |
01 Nov 2002
|
|
PSV booked a profit of
€3.3 million Euros last season, a marked improvement on the very
modest €0.4 million the previous year but the club is warning that
this season could well result in a deficit. The current economic recession,
the practically inactive transfer-market and a bloated squad are given as
reasons for the negative outlook. Nonetheless, the Eindhoven
club's financial achievements are substantially better than rivals Ajax who recently
announced losses of €25.8 million Euros in 2001-2002.
|
| PSV
beat Auxerre 3-0 but exit C-L |
30 Oct 2002
|
|
Holland did ok tonight in the
Champions League with Ajax winning away at Lyon and rivals PSV beating
another French side Auxerre 3-0 in Eindhoven. Ajax still have a chance
of reaching the 2nd round but PSV are destined to continue in the UEFA Cup
after Borussia Dortmund's 2-0 win against Arsenal. Arnold Bruggink put the
home team ahead in the 34th. Auxerre were already down to 10 men by this
time after Phillipe Mexes was given his marching orders in the 26th for his
2nd yellow card. He was joined for an early shower by teammate Olivier Kapo
in the 51st. Dennis Rommedahl took only 3 minutes of the 2nd act to make it
2-0 for PSV and Arjan Robben took the final score to 3-0 in the 64th.
|
| Hofland
starts against Auxerre |
30 Oct 2002
|
| Kevin
Hofland will start tonight's C-L match against AJ Auxerre, taking the
place of the suspended André Ooijer. The defender is back from an ankle
injury, picked up in the 0-4 C-L defeat by Arsenal and played his first
match since as a substitute in last Saturday's Ere Divisie match against
NEC. Hiddink will probaly leave his lineup unchanged from Saturday's which
means that Arjen Robben will play on the left-wing with Mateja Kezman and
Arnold Bruggink as strike duo. |
| PSV
appeal UEFA fine |
30 Oct 2002
|
|
PSV have appealed to the
international sportscourt (CAS) in Lausanne, Switzerland against the
increased fine they've been handed out by UEFA. UEFA were unhappy with the
original fine and raised it to € 34,000 Euros as punishment for the racist
taunts of sections of the PSV supporters during the C-L match against
Arsenal. PSV's main objection is to the the passage which declares that the
club can look forward to an even heftier fine in the future if there is a
recurrence of the incident. PSV want to know if they are being held
responsible for their fans' behaviour and, if so, where they have failed in
their handling of the affair as the guilty fans have already been issued
with a stadium-ban.
|
| NEC
lose to PSV 0-4 |
26 Oct 2002
|
|
NEC
lineup: Gentenaar - Wisgerhof, Wielaert,
Hesp, Schuurman - Zonneveld, Govedarica, Hersi - Ax, Demouge, De Nooijer.
PSV lineup:
Waterreus - Břgelund, Ooijer, Faber, Bouma - Van Bommel, Vogel, Rommedahl,
Robben - Bruggink, Kezman.
PSV did good business tonight
with this surprisingly easy 0-4 away win in Nijmegen and go top of the table
again at the expense of Ajax who only managed a point at RKC. It only took 60 seconds for them to go
ahead after Arnold Brugginkd the score for them and he added a 2nd in
the 36th. After the break Danish international Dennis Rommedahl made it 0-3
in the 68th and, 3 minutes later, Yugoslav goal-getter Mateja Kezman added a
4th.
|
| PSV
miss Leandro till after winter-break |
22 Oct 2002
|
|
PSV will have to miss their Brazilian
talent Leandro till after the winter-break after an MRI scan revealed a serious
groin injury which will take the next couple of months to heal. The 18
year-old's absence is a blow for coach Guus Hiddink who declared after
Saturday's match against Roda that the effectiveness of the PSV attack was
already dependent to a large extent on the 18 year-old's creativity.
|
| PSV
without injury worries for C-L match |
22 Oct 2002
|
|
PSV extensive injury worries as they
prepare to face Borussia Dortmund in tonight's Champions League match are
over with the news that André Ooijer, Wilfred Bouma, Arjen Robben and
Arnold Bruggink have all been declared fit to play. Whether or not Guus
Hiddink will actually field them is another question as the coach was
yesterday mostly concerned with Ooijer's availability to lead PSV's (in
recent matches) shaky defence.
|
| Waterreus
extends deal at PSV |
22 Oct 2002
|
|
PSV keeper Ronald Waterreus has
extended his current deal with the club, which runs till the middle of next
year, till the summer of 2005. The 32 year-old former Roda goalie has been
with the club since the 1994/1995 season and has so far played 232 League
and 50 European matches for them. He's not always been certain of his place
in the lineup and has had to fight off competition from the likes of Stanley
Menzo, Georg Koch and Ivica Kralj when his trainers have doubted his
goal-stopping skills but has always come out on top. He's currently the
undisputed no.1 choice in Eindhoven as well as being the regular
reserve-keeper for Oranje behind Fulham's Edwin van der Sar. Waterreus is in
his 9th season with PSV and is close to setting a new club record as there
have only been two keepers who've served longer at the Philips stadium. They
are Hans van Breukelen and Jan van Beveren who've both spent 10 seasons
defending goal for them. If Waterreus serves out his new contract he'll
break the record held by both keepers.

| Hofland
and Leandro miss Dortmund match |
21 Oct 2002
|
|
Kevin Hofland will not be
travelling with PSV for their Champions League match against Borussia
Dortmund tomorrow after failing a last test yesterday. The Dutch
international defender will be staying at home, as will Brazilian attacking
midfielder Leandro. He's still suffering from the groin injury picked
up in the Ere Divisie match against Roda which looks likely to keep him out
of action for the foreseeable future. Good news is that André Ooijer and
Arnold Bruggink are recovered from their injuries and will be rejoining
their teammates for the C-L clash.

PSV will miss their young
Brazilian midfielder Leandro for the foreseeable future after he picked up a
groin injury while taking a free-kick in yesterday's match against Roda. The
18 year-old will certainly miss Tuesday's Champions League match against
Borussia Dortmund.

| PSV
close to signing Swiss talent? |
20 Oct 2002
|
|
PSV's interest in the young Swiss
talent Johan Vonlanthen is taking concrete form according to reports
emanating from Switzerland. The Eindhoven side have apparentlyd talks
with the 16 year-old's current club Young Boys in a deal said to be worth
€680,000 Euros. PSV will also have to pay Young Boys 50% of any fee
they get when they sell the youngster. Vonlanthen, who's already twice been
on trial at the Herdgang, is generally regarded as his country's greatest
talent. He scored a hattrick in the Swiss Under 19s 3-1 win against Bulgaria
and scored the decisive goal in the 2-3 away win against the Irish Under19s.
If PSV close the deal the youngster will almost certainly be lent to Young
Boys for the next two years because, according to European law, he'll have
to be at least 18 year-old to be eligible to play in the Ere Divisie. He
made 9 appearances so far this season in the Nationalliga A and 8 last
season.

and Roda in 0-0 |
19 Oct 2002
|
|
PSV
lineup: Waterreus - Břgelund, Faber, Addo, Bouma - Rommedahl, Van
Bommel, Vogel, Robben - Leandro, Kezman.
Roda
lineup: Kujovic - Sonkaya, Luijpers, Brouwers, Filipovic - Sonko, Vicelich,
Van Dessel, Soetaers - Cristiano, Anastasiou.
PSV handed over the top-of-the-table position
to Ajax after dropping points against Roda. Making a rare appearance for PSV
was Eric Addo, an expensive addition to the squad who played his last match
back in March against....Roda! The home team made hard work of the match and
failed to really worry the 'Kerkrade Crew' while Roda were content to go
home with a point and rarely ventured over the halfway line. It resulted in
a far from sparkling spectacle with only a few chances for Mateja Kezman,
Wilfred Bouma and Arjen Robben.

In the run-up to their Ere

doubtful to start: Kevin Hofland, André Ooijer, Remco van der Schaaf and
Arnold Bruggink are all carrying light injuries and trained separately from
the group. Ooijer is still suffering from a knee injury, Van der Schaaf and
Bruggink are hampered respectively by a thigh and foot problem while Kevin
Hofland is still troubled by a torn ankle ligament.

terminate Cláudio's contract |
18 Oct 2002
|
|
PSV have terminated the contract
of their Brazilian forward Cláudio de Oliveira Parreira. The 23 year-old
joined the club in the summer of 1996 but never managed to secure a regular
place in the lineup, only managing 17 appearances. He spent some time on
loan to Vitória Bahia, Botafogo and Fortuna Sittard while this season PSV
wanted to hire him to Swiss side FC Luzern but he returned to Holland when
Luzern were unable to obtain a work-permit for him.

|
Adil Ramzi is unhappy at PSV and
wants to leave Eindhoven when the next transfer window comes round during
the winter-break. The Morrocan international announced his intentions after
Morocco's 5-0 African Nations Cup win against Equatorial Guinea. Ramzi
arrived in Holland from in 1997 from Italian side Udinese and played 3
season for Willem II before moving on to PSV. He was a regular feature
of the PSV lineup in his first two seasons at the club but has only made one
appearance this term.

contest PSV fine |
15 Oct 2002
|
|
UEFA are unhappy with
the mild punishment handed out by its own disciplinary committee to PSV for
their fans' misbehaviour during the Champions League against Arsenal in the
Philips stadium. The club have been fined 30,000 Swiss francs for the racist
taunts and throwing of cigarette lighters and coins at the Londoners' black
players. Thierry Henry was especially targeted and was subjected to
unacceptable intimidation when he took corners. In the light of their
avowed determination to eradicate racism from the sport, UEFA has decided to
review the matter and instructed both clubs to prepare reports including
evidence relating to the incidents.

lose but Bruggink's injury not serious |

|
|
PSV's Arnold Bruggink was carried
off after only 12 minutes of the Copa Ciudad Las Palmas de Gran Canaria
match against Las Palmas yesterday which ended in a 1-0 win for the Spanish
side. The match was not a serious affair, despite the impression the
'lethal' tackle which floored Bruggink may have given, and was really a
chance for both clubs to run out some of their less experienced players to
see how they'd perform. Fortunately for Bruggink, who's scored twice in 7
appearances he's made this season, he's only suffering from some heavy
bruising and will be able to resume training shortly.

confirm new Hiddink death threats |
10 Oct 2002
|
|
PSV have confirmed that trainer
Guus Hiddink has received new death-threats in the form of a letter
containing bullets after a similar threat was made
back in August. The coach and club have kept quite till now about the
lastest threats but, after several foreign newspapers published stories on
the subject indicating that Hiddink may be considering leaving PSV,
have decided to make a public announcement. The club has confirmed that the
story is true as far as the threats is concerned but have also categorically
denied that Hiddink is thinking of giving in to this kind of intimidation
and is certainly not about to leave. PSV spokesman Pedro Salazar said,
"There is no absolutely no question of Hiddink leaving the club! These
latest threats have naturally given him food for thought but he has said
nothing to the club about an early departure. He's remaining calm and is
going about his business as usual."
On his return from the squad's training camp on the Canary Islands Hiddink
will be making an official complaint to the police.

André Ooijer has
left Oranje's training camp in Noordwijk, almost as soon as arriving, due to
his left-knee injury which is playing up again. Al, the Dutch layers were
due toi report for duty today and Ooijer was among them but has since
departed after the Oranje medical team confirmed what the PSV defender
already knew, namely that his knee was too swollen for him to play football.
It's unclear how serious the swelling is, how long he'll be out of action
for and whether or not coach Dick Advocaat will be calling up a replacement.

target Ji-Sung Park |
09 Oct 2002
|
|
PSV are considering the addition
of South Korean player Ji-Sung Park during the winter break. 'Guus Hiddink
and myself will be travelling to Korea at the end of November and it's
possible that we'll close the deal then. He's certainly a player of
sufficient quality to be able to play for us and we can field him in various
positions," the club's technical director Frank Arnesen told provincial
newspaper 'Eindhovens Dagblad'. Park is one of several Korean players who
impressed with their performances during the recent World Cup. The 21
year-old midfielder attracted the most attention with his match-winning goal
against Portugal and has made 40 international appearances. Park is
currently under contract to Japanese side Kyoto Purple Sanga who are 4th in
the J-League. He's in his 2nd season with the club but his contract runs out
in December and he would be able to leave transfer-free.

| NAC
and PSV draw 2-2 |
05 Oct 2002 |
|
NAC lineup: Babos
- Colin, Penders, Mensah, Gudelj - Stewart, Fehér, Schreuder - Bobson,
Engelaar, Van den Eede.
PSV
lineup: Waterreus - Břgelund, Ooijer, Faber, Bouma - Van der Schaaf, Van
Bommel, Vogel - Rommedahl, Kezman, Robben.
For the second week in a row NAC have frustrated one of the
'Top 3', with a 2-2 home draw against PSV after doing exactly the same
against Ajax last Sunday. They
actually deserved the points but were eventually denied them by a 90th minute Dennis Rommedahl
goal. PSV were a team off-form and out-of-sorts, deflated after their
disappointing C-L defeat by Borussia Dortmund. In theng half an
hour neither side looked likely to score, apart from one golden opportunity
which Dennis Rommedhal managed to miss. NAC continued to be the better team and, after
half an hour in which neither side looked likely to score, went ahead in the 31st
with the first of Orlando Engelaar's goals, the tall forward profitting from
an amateurish error by Waterreus and Ooijer. NAC were encouraged but didn't
managed to convert it into goals and after the break Rommedahl set up Mateja Kezman
for the equalizer in the 57th. Engelaar put the 2-1 on the board
in the 76th, easily slipping by Ooijer to pass Waterreus before Rommedahl equalized for PSV to give them a point in the
90th. |
| PSV
lose to Borussia Dortmund 1-3 |
02 Oct 2002
|
|
PSV
lineup: Waterreus, Břgelund, Faber, Ooijer, Bouma, Rommedhal, Vogel, Van
Bommel, Van der Schaaf, Kezman, Leandro. Borussia
Dortmund lineup: Lehmann, Madouni, Wörns, Metzelder, Dédé, Reuter,
Frings, Rosicky, Heinrich, Koller, Ewerthon.
Another disastrous result for
PSV, after the humiliating 0-4 defeat by Arsenal last week, this time against the
Bundesliga champions Borussia Dortmund. PSV began well enough, with headers
in the direction of goal by Remco van der Schaaf and Andre Ooijer but it
gave a false impression of the match as Borussia were simply better. Van
Bommel was sharp but his teammates couldn't match him and Kezman was unable
to convert any of the fine passes his captain provided him. In defence PSV
made too many errors and a terrible error by Kasper Břgelund
allowed Tomas Rosicky to intercept and Koller to
score a simpler in the 21st. The Eindhoven side were lucky that
Ewerthon, from close by, and Thorsten Frings, with a distance shot, didn't
pass Ronald Waterreus. After the break PSV tried to turn things around but
failed to create thengs they so badly needed. Dortmund remained in
control and it was no surprise when Rosicky raced down the wing, flew past Ooijer
to beat Waterreus. Remco van der Schaaf got one back with a beauty of a
distance blast which inspired substitutes Arjen Robben and Jan Vennegoor of
Hesselink to do their best in the last 15 minutes. Vennegoor forced Jens
Lehmann to come up with a fine save and Dennis Rommedahl grazed the bar with
a shot but it was all too little, too late. Borussia sub Marcio Amoroso
put the final 1-3 on the board in the 90th minute. PSV will be waking up
with another headache tomorrow and a place in the UEFA Cup looks like the
best they can expect from this year's C-L adventure!
|
| PSV
- Borussia Dortmund... a preview |
02 Oct 2002
|
Borussia Dortmund were last season's surprise
Bundesliga winners but have struggled to get going this season. Trainer
Matthias Sammer 's team may have not played brilliant football but, after
only 3 wins, are already in the no.3 spot. In the Champions League they were
at times completely outplayed by Arsenal at Highbury (although that's not exactly
surprising is it?) and could only manage a hard-fought 2-1 win
at home against Auxerre to put them into 2nd place in their group behind
Arsenal. They expect to stay in 2nd place after their match against PSV
although they sensibly treat the Eindhoven side with respect. On the other
hand it's been a long time since they won away from home in the C-L - in
fact it was a 3-0 win against Spartak Prague on December 10th 1997.
The 'ball is most definitely in PSV's court' as they really need to win if
they are to have any hope at all of going through to the next round. The
past is full of disappointments - in 1998/99 they needed a win against
Benfica to end 2nd in the group but drew 2-2. The following year, after a
1-0 home defeat by Bayern München and a draw with Valencia, they had to
face Glasgow Rangers - but after winning 1-0 at home they lost 4-1 at Ibrox
Park. In the 2000/01 season a home win against Anderlecht would have given
them a place in the 2nd round but they lost 2-3. Last year they failed to
beat Nantes at home (1-1) and then lost the last match in Istanbul against
Galatasaray 2-0. It will be very tough job for them to beat Borussia tonight
as the German side boasts too many stars - Evanilson, Juan Fernandes, Jörg
Heinrich, Torsten Frings, Tomás Risicky, Marcio Amoroso, Ewerthon and Jan
Koller (coincidentally the former Anderlecht striker who knocked them out
last year!).

new head of PSV's youth academy |
02 Oct 2002
|
|
Pim Verbeek has been appointed head
of PSV's youth academy. He succeeds Fred Rutten who has joined the 1st team's
technical staff. Guus Hiddink appointed Rutten as assistant-trainer but he
couldn't combine the job with his task as head of the academy which is why
Verbeek is taking over. Verbeek, Hiddink's former assistant with the South
Korean national team, has been coaching
Jong PSV since the beginning of the season and will continue to do so
alongside his new task.

| Hiddink
gives Leandro place in squad |
02 Oct 2002
|
|
Guus Hiddink has decided to include 18 year-old
Brazilian midfielder Leandro do Bomfim in his lineup for tonight's Champions
League match against Borussia Dortmund in the Philips Stadium, Eindhoven.
The youngster has just gotten over a bout of flu but, according to his
coach, that is no reason not to field him tonight. He made his debut last
Saturday in the 4-0 win against De Graafschap and impressed sufficiently to
be given another crack at the whip (or should that be kick of the ball).
"He's only 18 but is quick to learn and, just like Arjen Robben, comes
up with some good moves but let's himself down at the last moment. They both
need prolonged top-level match-play experience in order to develop their
skills."

| Hiddink
misses Leandro, Rommedahl doubtful |
01 Oct 2002
|
|
PSV-coach Guus Hiddink will most likely have to
change his plan to field midfielder Leandro for tomorrow's Champions League
clash with Borussia Dortmund after the Brazilian picked up a flu-bug. Dennis
Rommedahl is also doubtful after he bruised his toe during the match against
De Graafschap at the weeknd. He may well be given a pain-killing injection
allowing him to play, which he is determined to do!

calls-up Addo and Ramzi for C-L |
01 Oct 2002
|
Guus Hiddink has called up Eric Addo and Adil
Ramzi for the PSV squad who will travel to face Borussia Dortmund in the
Champions League match on Wednesday. The complete squad is:
Goal: Ronald Waterreus, Jelle ten Rouwelaar
Defence: André Ooijer, Ernest Faber, Jan Heintze, Eric Addo, Wilfred Bouma,
Kasper Břgelund.
Midfield: Mark van Bommel, Remco van der Schaaf, Johann Vogel, Theo
Lucius, Leandro Do Bomfim.
Forwards: Adil Ramzi, Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink, Mateja Kezman,
Arnold Bruggink, Arjen Robben, Dennis Rommedahl.
|
| PSV
thrash De Graafschap 4-0 |
28 Sep 2002
|
|
PSV
lineup: Waterreus - Břgelund, Ooijer, Faber, Bouma - Rommedahl, van Bommel,
van der Schaaf - Robben, Leandro, Kezman.
De
Graafschap
lineup: Wevers - Bot, van der Kruis, Bakens, Hermans - Berck Beelenkamp,
Valeev, van Leerdam, ter Avest - van Vossen, Culina.
Perhaps the news of 'The Gunners'
1-4 destruction of Leeds United at Elland Road made it a bit
easier to bear the pain of the 0-4 defeat they suffered at the hands of
Arsenal on Wednesday and concentrate on matters closer to home. In any case
PSV did themselves some psychological good, giving themselves a shot in
the arm with a good old fashioned 4-0 Ere Divisie win against De
Graafschap. Guus Hiddink took the opportunity to give a couple of
younger players a chance and put Johann Vogel and Arnold Bruggink on the bench,
to be replaced by Remco van der Schaaf and Leandro, while Arjen
Robben was fielded on the left-wing and Ernest Faber replaced the injured
Kevin Hofland and it gave the team a different look than the one that faced Arsenal.
After theng goal by Dennis Rommedahl after 21 minutes, De Graafschap offered little resistance. Mateja Kezman's
shot was deflected in by René Bot for an own-goal
8 minutes later and Arjen Robben added a 3rd in the 34th to give the home team a healthy
lead to take into the dressing room at the break. The 2nd half followed with more
of the same and Kezman added to his season's tally with his 2nd of the
evening in the 62nd for the 4-0.

Johann Vogel and Arnold Bruggink will occupy a
place on the bench for PSV's match against De Graafschap tonight and will be

0-4 defeat by Arsenal.

| Cláudio
returns to Eindhoven |
28 Sep 2002
|
|
Cláudio has made an early return
to Eindhoven after the 23 year-old was sent back to Holland by Swiss side FC
Luzern who were unable to obtain a work-permit for him from the Swiss FA.
The current financial crisis affecting many clubs in Switzerland, and the
high number of club-less homegrown players, has forced the FA there to toughen
up the rules for the entry of foreign players. Cláudio played on loan
for Fortuna last season but his presence failed to prevent the club's
relegation to the Eerste Divisie.

| Hofland
out for several weeks |
26 Sep 2002
|
|
To add to the misery of their 0-4 Champions
League defeat by Arsenal last night, PSV have woken up to the unwelcome news
that defender Kevin Hofland has torn a tendon in his right ankle. First the
ankle needs rest before tests are carried out on Monday to determine how
long a period of recuperation is required. It'll be at least several weeks
before he's back in action which is bad news for Hofland who's been dogged
by injury for much of the year. The 23 year-old was hampered for a while by
the after-effects of concussion earlier in the year and a calf-injury,
together with a mysterious case of fatigue, kept
him off the pitch several times back in April.

furious about PSV fans behaviour |
26 Sep 2002
|
|
Arsenal have reacted furiously to the behaviour
of certain groups of PSV fans who hurled verbal racist abuse, as well as
coins and cigarette lighters, at Thierry Henry during last night's Champions
League clash in the Philips Stadium in Eindhoven. The Gunners have demanded
that UEFA investigat the incident and it could mean a hefty fine for PSV to
add to the memory of their humiliating 0-4 defeat. Referee Michel Lubos has
collected several of the 'missiles' and these will undoubtedly be presented
to UEFA's disciplinary body as evidence against the Dutch club.

| PSV
in the dumps after humiliating defeat |
26 Sep 2002
|
|
PSV are well and truly down in the dumps after
their humiliating 0-4 defeat by Arsenal in the Champions League last night.
The result makes it an impossible task for them to reach the 2nd round of
the tournament, having already failed 6 times to get further than theng group round. "This is a really painfulng home match for
us in the Champions League", said captain Mark van Bommel after the
match. "In fact we more or less gave away the match with thatng
goal after only 20 seconds. The first three goals were the result of us
losing the ball in midfield. We only made it only more diffficult for
ourselves and paid dearly for the errors we made". The defeat was no
less painful for coach Guus Hiddink. "We simply couldn't get control in
midfield against an opponent with world class players who were superior to
us in every position. They sliced uswith razor sharp passing that
proved fatal".
|
| PSV
lose to Arsenal 0-4 |
25 Sep 2002
|
|
PSV
lineup: Waterreus - Břgelund, Ooijer, Hofland, Heintze - Rommedahl, Van
Bommel, Vogel, Bouma - Bruggink, Kezman.
Arsenal
lineup: Seaman - Keown, Campbell, A. Cole - Etame Mayer, Silva, Vieira,
Ljungberg - Wiltord, Bergkamp, Henry.
What a shock - Arsenal went ahead straight
from the kickoff! A blunder by Vogel, 20 seconds into the match, sent Henry
speeding through the defensive lines. He passed to Silva who made it look
simple ....0-1. PSV fought back, showing they also had skills, could also
attack and Bruggink had a goal disallowed for hands-ball only two
minutes later. In the 5th minute Rommedahl crossed and Kezman lunged but his
header went past. The Yugoslav had another goal disallowed for offside in
the 11th. Five minutes later Kezman should have struck with lightning speed
at a Bouma cross but gave the ball to Bruggink who couldn't get it past the
defenders. In the 24th Kezman was fed a through ball, broke free and
attempted to score but his run at goal was stopped by Seaman. The best of
the chances were definitely for the home team and Bruggink screamed a
freekick over in the 33rd. Kezman headed just wide in the 37th as PSV kept
up the pressure - surely they were going to score? Kevin Hofland was carried
off in the 44th with an obviously painful ankle injury. PSV held onto the
ball through first-half injury time to give the defender the chance to
recover.
Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink came out after the break for
Hofland and PSV went on the attack but were also subjected to another early
attack on goal by The Gunners, only Wiltord's attempt was stopped by
Waterreus. Arsenal looked sharper than before the break and threatened to
get a second goal so it it was no real surprise when it came. Again another
defensive blunder, by the young Leandro who'd replaced the unhappy Vogel,
cost PSV the match in the 66th minute as
Ljungberg popped the ball over Waterreus. Henry dashed any hopes of any kind
of PSV recovery with a goal in the 81st, Kanu finding the gap and the French
striker finishing it off. Arsenal kept up the pressure on a broken PSV
lineup that had to cling on to prevent any more balls finding their way to
the back of the net. Unfortunately they didn't succeed and Henry made it 0-4
in injury-time. A humiliating result for Guus Hiddink and his men who
deserved better against an opponent who were decidedly sub-standard for much
of the match but who proved to be deadly when it mattered most.

| Arsenal
arrogance fuels PSV |
25 Sep 2002
|
|
PSV are expecting to play host tonight to an Arsenal
side at full strength for their Champions League clash. Guus Hiddink has plenty
of respect for their opponents although 'The Gunners' seem to be treating the
duel far less seriously than PSV, even provocatively foregoing the 'right' to
train in the Philips Stadium. The Londoners' arrogance has acted as a catalyst
for Hiddink who's been trying to encourage his team to dig as deep as possible
and see if they can send Arsenal home with a headache. "Of course they have
a tremendous team but not to train at all in the stadium where they're going to
play is to say the least a bit strange. It would be stupid of me not to make use
of our opponent's over-confidence and arrogance to provoke my team into
responding with even more commitment to winning this game."
Arsenal coach Arsčne Wenger will be fielding his
best lineup with Dennis Bergkamp expected to lead the attack in an attempt to
end the run of curiously disappointing away matches they've played in Europe.
Arsenal have failed to win in their last 8 European away games, their last win
being against Olympique Lyon in February 2001 when they won 1-0. They've played
a Dutch team a total of four times in Europe and each time it was Ajax, who beat
them 3 times while Arsenal won once. Historically speaking PSV have a good
chance of success, winning 7 of the 14 matches they've played against English
teams, drawing 2 and losing 5. At home they've only lost to Nottingham Forest
(1-2 in the 1983/1984 UEFA Cup) while since the 1990s they've won 6 of 8
matches, drawing once and losing once to Manchester United at Old
Trafford.

| Heerenveen
sign John de Jong |
25 Sep 2002
|
|
Heerenveen have taken the first step on the road to
recovery by signing PSV's John de Jong who will be presented to the press today.
It will be the 25 year-old's task to kick some life back into a team that has
had a disastrous start to the season. Since the departure of 'Mighty Swede' Marcus
Allbäck to Aston Villa and Anthony
Lurling to Feyenoord the Frieslanders have lost their way and are currently
sunk at the bottom of the table, together with Groningen and Twente, and have
failed to score a single goal in their last 4 matches. De Jong has become
sidetracked at PSV and, although he's not known as a great scorer-of-goals, will
be expected to rekindle the goal-scoring skills of Heerenveen's strikers by
providing them with the right-kind-of-balls.
|
| Arsenal-
PSV's C-L opponent |
25 Sep 2002
|
|
Arsenal's French
manager Arsčne Wenger has transformed 'The Gunners' into a balanced
thorough-bred who were too strong for their Premiership rivals last season.
The London side did 'The Double', winning both the League and the FA Cup
with an impressive string of performances including only 3 defeats in the
Premiership and a run of 18 unbeaten matches in Europe. They are,
unsurprisingly, favouites to win the title this season. The Highbury team
are particularly feared for their collective goal-scoring ability and are
still showing no signs of stumbling with another impressive run of 47
matches in which they've scored every time and are also 29 games without
defeat.
Wenger goes as
far as to claim that he will not be surprised if they remain unbeaten all
season long. Wenger has a large squad to choose his team from including
toppers such as
Thierry Henry, Dennis Bergkamp, Patrick Vieira, Sol Campbell, Robert Pires,
Sylvain Wiltord and Fredrik Ljungberg. Although they've become almost
unbeatable in England they have frustratingly underachieved in Europe - this
is their 5th mainland Champions League campaign in a row but they have never
gone further than the 2nd group round. Wenger will be determined to do
better this time round and a degree of over-confident arrogance could be the
only thing, apart from an equally determined PSV, to stand in their way
tonight.

| Waterreus
fit for tomorrow's C-L clash |
24 Sep 2002
|
|
PSV keeper Ronald Waterreus will be able
to play in tomorrow's Champions League clash with Arsenal after
recovering in time from a hamstring problem. The injury forced him to pull
out of last week's C-L match against Auxerre but Guus Hiddink was relieved to
see that his no.1 goalie was able to train as usual today and has no doubt that
Waterreus will play tomorrow. Defender Kasper Břgelund and Brazilian forward
Leandro will both be fit to play after recovering from minor injuries.
|
| PSV
still hope for fit Waterreus |
23 Sep 2002
|
|
PSV are doing
their utmost to try and get Ronald Waterreus fit in time for Wednesday's
Champions League clash with Arsenal. "It's one of our top priorities but
we're still not sure whether or not he'll be fit in time. We're doing our best
but won't know for sure till tomorrow whether or not we've succeeded," said
trainer Guus Hiddink. If Waterreus is unable to play he'll be replaced by Jelle
ten Rouwelaar who performed well in the Champions League match against Auxerre.

lose 1-3 to PSV |

Zwolle
lineup: Van der Werff - Doesburg, Schol, Kras, Van der Haar - M. Roelofsen,

PSV
lineup: Ten Rouwelaar - Břgelund, Ooijer, Hofland, Bouma - Rommedahl, Van
Bommel, Vogel, Leandro - Bruggink, Kezman.
PSC won 1-3 at Zwolle tonight thanks to two
goals by Mateja Kezman, who's in the form of his life at the moment and
firing on all cylinders. The two he put away tonight take his
season's tally to 7. The Yugoslavian strikerd the score in the
10th minute but PSV, not wanting to exert themselves too much with the
coming C-L match against Arsenal ahead of them, allowed the home team to get
back into the match. Marino Promes gave the visitors some hope with an equalizer
in the 52nd but Kezman's 2nd in the 65th and a 3rd in the 85th by substitute
Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink took the final score to 1-3. PSV are now on a run
of 17 unbeaten matches, the last time they lost being the 2-1 defeat by RKC
Waalwijk in the Mandemakers stadium back in February.

| Waterreus
has hamstring injury |
20 Sep 2002
|
|
Ronald Waterreus' injury has turned out to be worse
than originally thought after an MRI scan revealed that the PSV goalie has a
tear in his right hamstring. He already missed Tuesday's Champions League away
leg match against AJ Auxerre (0-0) and
will now certainly also miss Saturday's Ere Divisie match against Zwolle.
Waterreus picked up the injury in the preparations for the match against Auxerre
and was replaced by Jelle ten Rouwelaar who
will continue to stand in for him while he recovers.

| Ten
Rouwelaar to make Ere Divisie debut |
19 Sep 2002
|
|
It looks increasingly likely that Ronald Waterreus
will not be able to play this coming Saturday when PSV face Zwolle and that his
place in goal will be taken by Jelle ten Rouwelaar. PSV's reserve goalie will be
making his Ere Divisie debut after playing his first European match on Tuesday
when his team played their Champions League away leg match against AJ Auxerre.
"If Ronald's not fit I'll be making my Ere Divisie debut in Zwolle's
stadium, where I played so many times for Emmen. Talking to told Dutch daily
newspaper 'De Telegraaf' the enthousiastic Ten Rouwelaar said, "Although it
all seems to be happening so fast for me at the moment I'm trying to remain
calm, which is simply part of my character. It was a strange feeling after the
match against Auxerre, but a nice one, and although I've shown I can do it once
I'm sure I can still improve on that performance."
|
| Hiddink
satisfied with 'un point' |
18 Sep 2002
|
|
Guus Hiddink is reasonably satisfied with PSV's
Champions League performance against AJ Auxerre last night although they could
have gone home with an important away-goal in their pocket if their strikers,
especially Mateja Kezman, had been just a little sharper. "We did well to
earn a draw against the no.1 French side and can be satisfied with the result.
Although I considered putting in an extra striker at a certain point it seemed
not worth the risk of conceding a goal(s) and heading home with no points at
all."

draw 1-1 at Auxerre in C-League |

AJ
Auxerre lineup: Cool - Radet, Mexčs, Boumsong, Jaurčs - Tainio,
Lachuer, Faye, Fadiga - Mwaruwaru, Kapo.
PSV
lineup: Ten Rouwelaar - Břgelund, Ooijer, Hofland, Heintze - Rommedahl, Van
der Schaaf, Vogel, Bouma - Bruggink, Kezman.
PSV went home with a point after a mediocre
first half's football was concluded with a 2nd half in which the visitors
got to grips with the match and had their chances but failed to convert
them. Guus Hiddink had made clear his intention to take no risks in getting
through the first leg match without giving too much away. The French
had problems coping with the tactic and it wasn't till the 21st that Jelle
ten Rouwelaar was tested and he dealt well with the face to face
confrontation with Khalilou Fadiga. Mateja Kezman and Arnold Bruggink had
the best of the PSV chances who were lucky that Remco van der Schaaf didn't
get a red card in the 4th minute and it aws no surprise when he was replaced
close to halftime to prevent any further damage. PSV had the best of the
chances in the 2nd half with Mateja Kezman coming close in the 52nd and
Wilfred Bouma denied by the French goalie Cool. The last 10 minutes were
worrying for PSV but they clung on till the whistle and can look forward
confidently to the 2nd leg at home.

| PSV
fly out Coutinho for C-L match |
17 Sep 2002
|
|
PSV have flown out their 3rd choice
goalie Gino Coutinho for tonight's Champions League clash with AJ Auxerre.
Coutinho could well take his place on the bench if Ronald
Waterreus, who's picked up a hamstring injury, is unable to play. All of
which means Jelle ten Rouwelaar looks likely to make his European debut
tonight!
|
| Vogel
doubtful for PSV C-L clash |
17 Sep 2002
|
|
Johann Vogel remains doubtful to play for PSV
tomorrow in their away-leg Champions League match against AJ Auxerre. The Swiss
midfielder tore a groin muscle during training on Friday and was spared by coach
Guus Hiddink for Saturday's Ere Divisie match against RKC Waalwijk (4-0). He'll
undergo a last-minute test tonight but if has to stay in Holland it would be a
bit of a blow as Mark van Bommel will also be missing due to the red card he
picked up last season in the UEFA Cup clash with Feyenoord. Van Bommel will most
likely be replaced by Remco van der Schaaf.

PSV
lineup: Waterreus - Břgelund, Ooijer, Hofland, Bouma - Rommedahl, Van

RKC
lineup: Sinouh - Boulahrouz, Nikiforov, Van den Berg, De Graef - Van Diemen,
Van Wanrooy, Cornelisse - Putter, Hoogendorp, Janssen.
Tonight's match was
going to be hard work for RKC who won their last match in the Philips
stadium 10 years ago (0-3) while they've only earned themselves one point in
their last 7 visits (a 2-2 draw in 1999). Yugoslavian
striker Mateja Kezman rammed that point home with a hattrick to take his
total to 5 so far this season,ng the score in the 8th
minute. PSV were in a class of their own compared to RKC who, even though they haven't
dropped a point this season, were no match for the home team. Arnold Bruggink made it 2-0 in the 53rd while Kezman got
his 2nd of the evening in the 63rd, followed by his 3rd in the 73rd. PSV stay
top-of-the-table, with their 4th win in a row, 11 goals scored and none
against!
|
| Match
of the Day ... PSV - RKC |
14 Sep 2002
|
|
RKC are one of the high
fliers in the Ere Divisie after a storming start to the season which briefly
saw them top-of-the-table. They visit Eindhoven tonight where PSV are
currently table-toppers after taking it over from Ajax who had, in their
turn, taken it away from the Waalwjkers. 'We've got a good team but I think
we'll be happy to end the season between 6th and 12th in the table. So far
this season Khalid Boulahrouz, Rogier Molhoek, Eddy Putter and Jason Oost
have impressed. Right-back Boulahrouz and midfielder Molhoek have
unobtrusively earned themselves a place in the lineup. Putter and Oost are
less sure of a regular place but have both put in fine performances as
substitutes. Molhoek, Boulahrouz and Oost all experienced troubled
times with their previous clubs - Boulahrouz had the reputation as difficult
to get on with at AZ, Molhoek had become sidetracked at Dordrecht and Oost
was a neglected talent at Feyenoord where he couldn't cope with all the
competition from other players. RKC's scouting team follows up on every
single lead they get and that delivers results but even so the club's
general manager remains surprised that others have not recognised the talent
of Michael Lamey (now with PSV but so far failing to reveal the skills shown
in Waalwijk), Putter and Oost.
"It only took me 30 minutes to see Eddy's talent while Jason was
Feyenoord reserves' top scorer." Tonight's match will be hard work for
RKC who won their last match in the Philips stadium 10 years ago (0-3)
while they've only earned themselves one point in their last 7 visits (a 2-2
draw in 1999).

| PSV
to sign Kim Nam-il? |
13 Sep 2002
|
|
PSV are apparently poised to sign South-Korean
international Kim Nam-il who currently plays for Korean side Chunnam
Dragons. It's highy probable that the defensive midfielder could arrive in
Eindhoven in December and that he will be given the chance to acclimatise
for 6 months before actually joining the 1st team squad next season. Kim made
a name for himself during the recent World Cup but, with three defensive
midfielders currently in the squad (Johann Vogel, Theo Lucius and Remco van
der Schaaf), PSV don't actually need to make use of Kim's services till next
term.

Galen, Robbemond, Elkhattabi, Nelisse.
PSV
lineup: Waterreus, Břgelund, Ooijer, Hofland, Bouma, Rommedahl, Van Bommel,
Vogel, Robben, Kezman, Bruggink.
PSV dealt simply but efficiently with the
Alkmaarders, who missed 5 injured players, to go top of the Ere Divisie without having given away a
goal so far in 3 matches. André Ooijer put a rebound away for the visitors in the
14th minute to celebrate his 100th match for PSV while Van Bommel was
playing his 200th, having made his debut for the club against Fortuna
Sittard on May 15th 1993 at the tender age of 16! Yugoslavian striker Mateja Kezman
was the danger-man of theng half, adding a 2nd goal in the 36th
and a
3rd on the stroke of half-time (taking his tally in 5 matches against AZ to
6) from Rommedahl passes. A 4th goal by Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink in
the 86th minute completed the rout of the Alkmaarders.AZ played some

after the break and Remco van der Schaaf made his debut in the PSV colours. A 4th goal by Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink in
the 86th minute completed the rout of the Alkmaarders.

|
PSV will be able to field Mark van Bommel tonight
for the Ere Divisie match against AZ as it turns out that the Dutch
international is sufficiently recovered from the bruised toes he picked up
in Holland's EURO 2004 qualifier against Belarus. The midfielder was back in
training yesterday and will be able to turn out for his 200th Ere Divisie
match tonight.

that period.

Liverpool want Rommedahl?
|
25 Aug 2002
|
According to BBC Sport, Liverpool are targeting
PSV's Danish winger Dennis Rommedahl, having apparently lost interest in
Blackburn Rovers' Damian Duff. Rommedahl is apparently considerably
'cheaper' than the 23 year-old Irish international who's got a
not-inconsiderable price tag round his neck of 31 Million Euros while the 24
year-old Dane is a 'mere' 12.4 Million Euros. The former Lyngby BK and RKC
Waalwijk player was targeted by Aston Villa and Newcastle United after his
performances in the recent World Cup. His 14
assists made him the best provider in the Eredivisie last season and
he also scored 12 goals.

| PSV
beat Groningen 1 - 0 |
24 Aug 2002
|
|
PSV
lineup: Waterreus - Břgelund, Ooijer, Faber, Bouma - Vogel, Van Bommel,
Bruggink, Rommedahl - Robben, Kezman.
Groningen lineup: Beukenkamp
- Elshot, Schoenmakers, Boekweg, Florén - Allach, Hoogstrate, Matthijs,
Broerse - Krstev, Ikedia.
PSV hammered Groningen 0-8 last season but showed none of that display of
footballing superiority last night. In the dying stages of the match they
squeezed out a late 82nd minute goal, courtesy of Johann Vogel, for a weak
0-1 victory. It gives them, however, shared pole position in the Ere Divisie
along with RKC who booked a surprising win away at Heerenveen. The match
kicked-off 10 minutes later than the rest of last night's duels in order to
allow all the fans who'd booked a ticket to actually find their seats in the
Oosterpark stadium. Groningen put up a spirited resistance and, despite
bringing on Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink as extra firepower up front in place of defender Ernest Faber, the score was still 0-0 after 80
minutes. The home
team and their following were starting to hope for a minor upset but Vogel's
goal ended that dream.

| Excelsior
lose to PSV 0-2 |
17 Aug 2002
|
|
Excelsior lineup: Malkowski, Buijs, Breuer, Olfers, Mtiliga, Van Dieren,
Holman, Boutahar, Swerts, Lopes and Pinas. PSV lineup: Waterreus, Břgelund, Ooijer, Hofland, Bouma, Rommedahl, Van
Bommel, Vogel, Robben, Bruggink and Kezman.
Excelsior have suffered their first Ere Divisie
defeat, losing 0-2 to a rather uninspired PSV, despite playing some
attractive football. They started the match in furious style and Brian Pinas
had a 'golden' opportunity tothe score for them in theng seconds
but saw his attempt saved by an alert Ronald Waterreus. A defensive error by
Danny Buijs, misjudging a long-ball which landed at Mark van Bommel's feet,
allowed the PSV captian to slip past goalie Zbigniew Malkowski and score the
1-0 in the 3rd minute. The goal visibly disheartened the young Excelsior
side and Arnold Bruggink curled in a freekick in the 17th for the 2-0.
Dennis Rommedahl and Arjen Robben missed the next chances that PSV had while
after half an hour's play, the home team began to recover their confidence.
Their young Australian striker Brett Holman had the best chance, getting
past Waterreus but losing his balance under pressure from Kevin Hofland when
about to shoot. Seven minutes before half-time he hit the post with another
effort. Both sides failed to convert their goal-scoring chances after the
break, leaving the score unchanged at the final whistle.

fine PSV for fans' blockade |
12 Aug 2002
|
|
In an attempt to
stem the tide of misbehaviour/aggression by certain groups of fans in
Holland the Dutch FA (KNVB) have decided to start by fining PSV for their
fans blockade of the players' bus yesterday which delayed the start of the
Super Cup match in the Amsterdam ArenA. The Eindhoven club will be
presented with the bill for damages resulting from the delay. KNVB chairman
Frank Kessler stated it was unacceptable that PSV chairman chose to
negotiate with the 'fans' instead of calling on the local police to remove
the obstacles and deal with the fans! The club had been warned last Friday
that there could be problems in the run-up to the match and yet chose not to
inform Dutch football's governing body of the likelihood of trouble.
PSV have been given till August 19th to react to the fine which takes the
form of a non-payment of the €90,000 Euros they would otherwise have
received for taking part in the Super Cup, which they lost 3-1 to Ajax.

- plenty to do before season starts |
12 Aug 2002
|
|
"There's plenty of work to be done,"
declared PSV-coach Guus Hiddink after PSV's 3-1 defeat by Ajax in the Dutch
Super cup yesterday. "Theng 25 minutes were good but things went
wrong after that promising spell." PSV started well enough,ng the
score in the 10th minute, but failed to build on their initiative. Ronald
Koeman was considerably more satisfied saying, "We're on the right
track but the true test begins when the season kicks-off next
weekend."
|
| Ajax
win SuperCup after 3-1 against PSV |
11 Aug 2002
|
The SuperCup match kicked-off later than planned
due to a blockade of the PSV players' bus by unhappy supporters in
Eindhoven. PSV got off to a more assured start than Ajax and Mateja Kezman
had a couple of earlyngs before a Rommedahl cross found the Yugoslav
waiting to head in ther in the 10th minute. Van der Meyde hit the side
netting minutes later as Ajax fought back. Sikora missed THE chance of the
1st half when his attempt to put the ball between Watereus' legs was
smothered when the goalie simply sat on the ball. Van der Meyde got a yellow
card minutes later for a dangerous sliding action which
ended with Bouma receiving the winger's boot in
his rump, resulting in a heated confrontation. Kezman had a shot stopped by
the fine young goalie Maarten Stekelenburg before Rafael van der Vaart
proved once again how invaluable he is for Ajax, picking up a Maxwell
through ball on the edge of the box, turning neatly to slice it past
Waterreus for the equalizer in the 42nd. Stekelenburg showed again how good
he is by stopping a Van Bommel blast to keep the score level before the
half-time whistle. Trabelsi got a Kezman elbow in the face as the
injury-time seconds/minutes ticked on.
After the break Kezman missed a great
chance when a sloppy back pass by Pasanen left him with only Stekelenburg to
beat but his attempt was too nonchalant. In the 54th minute Galásek saw Trabelsi
break down the right, crossed to the Tunisian wing-back who crossed
perfectly for Mido to head in the 2-1! Kezman's 2nd 'foul' of the match
earned him a yellow card in the 58th. Ajax were looking stronger and
stronger as the minutes ticked by while PSV seemed to weaken mentally as
their control of midfield slipped out of their hands. Vennegoor of
Hesselink was brought on in the 65th to line-up alongside Kezman at the cost
of Vogel, while Bruggink dropped back behind the front-duo. Stekelenburg
stopped a Bruggink shot but had to give away a rebound that was (fortunately
for Ajax) cleared. Trabelsi then broke free down the middle but was held
back by Ooijer who got a yellow card only to miss a chance in front of the
Ajax goal minutes later. Victor Sikora was replaced by Wamberto in the 74th.
Van der Vaart did it again in the 77th when he was served up by Maxwell,
taking his time to carefully and casually slot it past a helpess Waterreus
for the 3-1. Mido was replaced by Zlatan. Galásek picked up a yellow card
for a foul on Van Bommel in the 79th and Bruggink was replaced by
Ramzi. As the clash drew to an end Ajax grew in strength while PSV
looked increasingly irritated by their inability to impose themselves on the
match. The Amsterdammers will be glad to add to their collection of
silverware, winning this Cup for the first time in their 'new' stadium and breaking the run of
ArenA defeats by PSV!
|
| Kezman,
not Vennegoor, starts in SuperCup |
11 Aug 2002
|
|
PSV coach Guus Hiddink has chosen to give Mateja Kezman the chance to start
in today's match in preference to Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink, as he did
against Hertha BSC. Van Hesselink was club top-scorer last season so he's
definitely wondering why Hiddink has made this particualr choice but is
determined to react positively to the decision and work hard to prove to his
coach that he belongs in the starting-lineup! Giorgi Gakhokidze has been
preferred to newcomer Arjen Robben on the left-wing.

| Romário
in show-stealing display at PSV |
07 Aug 2002
|
|
Romário de Souza Faria gave the PSV fans a real
treat last night with a trip down memory lane back to the golden days of
Eindhoven football. The 36 year-old former PSV striker scored two great goals in
a gala match between PSV'88 and the PSV All Stars (2-3) which was part of the
celebrations surrounding the official reng of the Philips stadium. Romário,
who turned out for the Eindhoven side between 1988 and 1993, scored a total of
98 goals in 109 matches during his time with the club and got a medal for the
European Cup 1 which the team won in 1988. In the first half of yesterday's
match he found the back-of-the-net for PSV'88 after a one-two with René van de
Kerkhof and, after the break, curled one in from 25 metres behind goalie Stan
Valckx for the All-Stars. Hans Gillhaus scored the 2nd for PSV'88 while Twan
Scheepers and Juul Ellerman put away the 2nd and 3rd for the All-Stars.

| PSV
lacklustre in 0-0 against Hertha BSC |
07 Aug 2002
|
|
PSV were treated to a chorus of whistles by their
fans after a lacklustre performance in their last friendly before facing Ajax in
the Amsterdam ArenA this Sunday in the battle for the Dutch SuperCup and the
Johan Cruijff Trophy. Fielding their best eleven they couldn't find
the-back-of-the-net in a 0-0 against Hertha BSC. Indicative of the 'state of
play' was the fact that goalie Ronald Waterreus was voted 'Man of the Match'!
The Bundesliga team, coached by Huub Stevens, had recently won the Liga Pokal
cup but failed to help the Eindhoven side put on a glittering display. During
the interval Erik Gerets took his leave of the PSV fans while earlier they were
treated to some real football when the PSV team that won the European Cup 1 in
1988 played an All-Star eleven including former PSV-er, and crowd-favourite, the
Brazilian star Romário who scored two fine goals.

| Hiddink
denies return to Korea story |
06 Aug 2002
|
|
Guus Hiddink has categorically denied that he's
signed a contract to return to coach the South Korean team when his two-year contract with PSV runs out in
2004. The news was announced yesterday today in Dutch public broadcaster NOS's Studio Sport
programme and was also published in Korean newspaper 'Chosun Ilbo'. It came as a suprise to PSV whose press-officer Pedro Salazar
said he knew
nothing about it. Hiddink is still seen as the best man to guide the South Korean team through
the next Olympic Games and take them to the 2006 World Cup in Germany.
Hiddink and a Korean FA delegation met last night in Amsterdam where the PSV
coach explained that signing a new contract with them now for 2004 onwards
would definitely not be the right thing to do. After all, he's only just
started his work in Eindhoven and wants to be able to concentrate on his
work there. PSV chairman Harry van Raaij is, however, understod to have
given his consent to Hiddink's flying out to Korea a couple of times a year
to keep in touch, allowing him to fulfill a role as technical adviser. 'Hie Dung-Gu' (as he is known) has also said that he will be present for the friendly between North and South
Korea in September this year in Seoul.

PSV fans at SuperCup |
24 July 2002
|
|
PSV will not be bringing any of their
fans to the Amsterdam ArenA for the SuperCup match against Ajax on August
11th after informing the Dutch FA (KNVB) that they will not be requiring
any tickets! The reason for their decision is the fact that Amsterdam city
council are sticking to their precondition that all PSV fans will have to
travel to the match in special supporters trains. PSV's objection that the
SuperCup battle for the Johan Cruijff Trophy is not a regular league match
has been rejected by the council and attempts at mediation by the Dutch FA
have been fruitless. |

contract for PSV's André Ooijer |
12 July 2002
|
|
André Ooijer has signed a new 5-year contract
with PSV. The defender, who's just turned 28, will stay at the Philips
stadium till 2007. He's been with the Eindhoven club since 1998,
previously turning out for Ajax, Volendam and Roda JC. Ooijer was one of
the few dependables in a shaky looking PSV eleven last season, after
several years of being plagued by injury, and put in some fine
performances in defence as well as in midfield, when he substituted for an
absent Mark van Bommel, leading to a callup for the Dutch national team,
Oranje.

Ooijer each put away one-a-piece. The squad's new boys, Ten Rouwelaar,
Robben, Van der Schaaf, Edno, Lamey and Wilson all got in some

accolades and achieving an almost god-like status he's certainly become

10 July 2002

PSV have signed young Brazilian player 'Edno'
Robert Cunha - the 19 year-old was playing for Anai, one of Brazil's less
'famous' clubs, and will be trying to make an impression on Guss Hiddink
from the ranks of the reserve team at the Philips Stadium. The Eindhoven
side have made a name for themselves by signing unknown Brazilians, such
as Romario, Vampeto and Ronaldo, whose careers take off and turn out to be
world class players!

| Hiddink
new PSV coach! |
08 July 2002
|
|
Guus Hiddink has finally signed on the dotted
line with PSV and will be their trainer for the coming two years after
negotiations were completed this morning. He'll be having a short holiday,
and a chance to catch his breath after all the World Cup excitement of
recent weeks in Korea, before commencing work in Eindhoven and assistant
trainer Erwin Koeman will lead the training sessions until Hiddink
returns. Hiddink had a playing career with De Graafschap, PSV, NEC, plus
US sides Washington Diplomats and San Jose Earthquakes. His first taste of
coaching was as assistant trainer with De Graafschap in 1982, moving on to
PSV a year later where he was also assistant for 3 years before taking
over as coach. He had a successful period with the club and crowned it by
winning the European Cup I in 1988. He then went on to work with
Fenerbahce, Valencia, Oranje, Real Madrid, Betis Sevilla and finally South
Korea!

flying into Amsterdam Schiphol airport this evening and flying on to
Eindhoven totalks tonight or tomorrow morning. It's expected that
the coach will sign for two years. Frank Arnesen will stay on as technical
director, responsible for player-acquisitions and sales, while assistant-trainer
Erwin Koeman and Fred Rutten, who's in charge of the youth scheme, will
both be added to the trainer's staff. A press conference has been
announced for Monday morning at 11.00 hours when Hiddink should be
presented as the new trainer.

have first training session |
06 July 2002
|
|
PSV put their squad through some stringent
medical examinations on Thursday and Friday but the first training session
of the pre-season preparations began in earnest today. After the
traditional (and much hated) cross-country run they held a training
session at the "Herdgang" with plenty of Asiatic interest! Even
before Guus Hiddink is installed as the new trainer Korean journalists are
already taking in the sights and getting some of those PSV-faces on film
with no less than two camera crews!! Mateja Kezman showed off his new
hairdo with a blonde Beckham-mohican. Newcomers Arjen Robben, Remco van
der Schaaf, Michael Lamey, Jelle ten Rouwelaar and Lindsay Wilson made
their first public appearances with only the Danish World Cup contingent
missing.

| Arsenal
offer Kanu & cash for Van Bommel |
06 July 2002
|
| PSV
chairman Harry van Raaij has been speaking of Arsenal's attempt to do a
deal involving Nigerian striker Kanu in part-exchange for Mark van Bommel.
The Eindhoven side rejected the offer, after all why should Van Raaij buy
another striker when he already has Vennegoor of Hesslink, Kezman,
Bruggink and De Jong to choose from? While not expecting any players to
actually leave the club, especially now that Guus Hiddink looks likely to
take over as coach, Van Raaij recognises the ambitions of Van Bommel,
Hofland and Kezman to move on to greater things. Anyone wishing to do so
has till the August 31st transfer deadline to do so! The PSV supremo also
expects that Hiddink will want to prune back the squad a bit and some
departures are still on the cards. In any case Kevin Hofland has already
stated that Hiddink's imminent arrival has persuaded him to stay another
year in Eindhoven. The defender thinks that with an intact squad PSV will
be in an excellent position to wrest back the Ere Divisie title from
rivals Ajax this coming season, which for them kicks-off on August 17th at
Excelsior!

| KV
Mechelen want PSV's Erwin Koeman |
19 Jun 2002
|
| Belgian
side KV Mechelen have approached PSV for Erwin Koeman who they want to
become their new trainer. It's a great opportunity for Koeman to become
head-trainer but he has also told PSV that he would like to succeed Erik
Gerets in Eindhoven. The former Dutch international (31 caps) has told the
club of his desire to take over the reins but he obviously faces strong
competition from the likes of Guus Hiddink (currently doing wonderful
things with South Korea), RKC's Martin Jol and Frank Rijkaard. Koeman has
heard nothing officially from the newly promoted Belgian club for whom he
played between 1985 and 1990. In the 1987/1988 season he won the European
Cup Winers Cup with them with a 1-0 win against Ajax.

| Pim
Verbeek new PSV2 trainer |
19 Jun 2002
|
| Guus
Hiddink looks increasingly likely to take over at PSV now that it's been
announced that his current assistant in South Korea, Pim Verbeek, will be
PSV's new reserve team trainer. At the end of the 1980s Verbeek was
regarded as the man to watch by the Dutch trainers association. He gained
promotion to the Ere Divisie with De Graafschap and, at 33 years of age,
was Feyenoord's youngest ever coach. His time at the Kuip was not a happy
one and he moved on to coach Groningen, Fortuna Sittard and Omiya Ardija
before Hiddink asked him to join him in Korea two years ago. The duo are
more or less an inseperable pair and PSV's technical manager, Frank
Arnesen, has announced that the club expect an answer from Hiddink in the
course of this week.

| PSV
football farewell party for Erik Gerets |
17 Jun 2002
|
| PSV
wish to bid farewell to their Belgian coach Erik Gerets with a
football-feast involving a match between a PSV team from 1988 and a
star-eleven including Brazilian star Romário. "Gerets has done a lot
for the club in the last 3 years and the supporters have asked for the
chance to take their leave of the coach." according to chairman Harry
van Raaij. The match is planned for August 6th while on the same day the
current PSV eleven will play a friendly against Dutch trainer Huub
Stevens' new club Hertha BSC. |
| Arsenal
ask PSV for Hofland's price |
17 Jun 2002
|
| Arsenal
have made an official approach to PSV for Kevin Hofland and asked how much
the Dutch defender will cost them. The price is expected to be in the
region of €20 million Euros for the 23 year-old who's interested in a
move to the top English side. "The Gunners" manager Arsene
Wenger has had his eye on Hofland, as well as teammate Mark van Bommel,
for some time now and he's perhaps lining him up to take over Tony Adams
place in the team.

| Martin
Jol favourite for PSV job? |
14 Jun 2002
|
| The PSV
squad seem equally divided concerning who the next trainer should be, with
one half choosing Guus Hiddink and the other half Martin Jol as no.1
candidate on their lists of favourites for the job, while Frank Rijkaard
is in 3rd place. Chairman Harry van Raaij has not approached anyone for
the vacancy as yet and the club's technical staff will also be consulted
before any moves are made. Kevin Hofland would personally like to see Jol
get the job as he's achieved so much with RKC and is well known for his
honesty and presentation to the media.

| TOP
Oss sign PSV's Guido Budziak |
13 Jun 2002
|
| Eerste
Divisie side TOP Oss have signed PSV's Guido Budziak on a contract for 2
years. The Eindhoven club are also hiring out young midfielder Björn
Becker to the Ossers next season. Budziak was promoted to reserve keeper
at PSV no less than 12 times due to Ronald Waterreus' injury problems but
the 20 year-old never actually saw any 1st team action. In March he was
hired out to RKC, as a result of Rob van Dijk's injury, but also never got
further than a place on the bench.

| Arsenal
deny Van Bommel bid |
29 May 2002
|
| Arsenal
have denied that they have been talking to PSV's Mark van Bommel at the
weekend. The Eindhoven club's press officer Pedro Salazar confirmed that
there has been only the one enquiry by "The Gunners", about a
month ago, for both Van Bommel and defender Kevin Hofland but that there
has been no word since from the Premiership side. It looks like the story
which had been circulating that Van Bommel was seen in London last weekend
is untrue, as so often with these rumours!
|
| Hiddink,
Rijkaard or Jol for PSV job? |
28 May 2002
|
| PSV have
three candidates lined up to succeed Erik Gerets as trainer: RKC's
Martin Jol, Sparta's Frank Rijkaard and South Korea's coach Guus Hiddink.
Hiddink, who is currently top of the list, achieved four trophies with PSV
(including the European Cup I in 1988), is free to take over after the
World Cup and is favourite according to sources within the club. Former
Oranje coach Rijkaard saw his club Sparta relegated to the Eerste Divisie
last Sunday and has an escape clause in his contract which would allow him
to leave. RKC's Martin Jol has achieved much since taking over in Waalwijk
in 1998, saving the team from relegation in his first year and building an
impressive/effective side in the following season. The players themselves
have nominated assistant-trainer Erwin Koeman but he's lacking in
experience and is unlikely to be offered the job. Chairman Van Raaij will
be considering his options during the coming days.
|
| PSV
hire Colin to NAC |
26 May 2002
|
| PSV
have finally agreed to a loan-deal sending Jürgen Colin to NAC for next
season. The Breda club had been wanting to add the defender to the squad
for some time now but PSV were only prepared to consider a deal once
they'd done a little stocktaking of their own players.
It's the second time that Colin is being hired out after an earlier spell
during the latter half of the season at RC Genk where he only played 7
matches. NAC trainer Henk ten Cate has said he'll be sure to see more action
than that with his team. |
| Gerets
wants honourable PSV exit |
22 May 2002
|
| Eric
Gerets is reportedly devastated by his weekend sacking by PSV but is
determined to see out the last days of his contract (which runs out on
July 1st) in an honourable fashion. It would have been far easier for him
to have left the team on Monday and flown back to Holland but the Belgian
coach has decided to carry out all his duties to the bitter end. And a
bitter end it is too for the man who's guided the team to 2 consecutive
Ere Divisie titles. He had a verbal agreement with chairman Harry van
Raaij that his contract would be extended "for life" this
summer but that now has a hollow ring about it. To add to the irony,
Gerets has made it clear to captain Mark van Bommel (one of his main
"opponents" within the team and partly "responsible"
for his departure) that he wants nothing more to do with him! Yet the
Dutch international himself could soon be departing for Louis van Gaal's
Barcelona! Meanwhile, Gerets' name has already been linked with the
trainer's job at Belgian side Standard Luik, the club where he made a name
for himself as a player, and it's also possible that he may be offered the
job of looking after the Belgian national team "The Red Devils"
("Rode Duivels") when/if the current coach Robert Waseige leaves
after the World Cup.

| Olsen
tipped to takeover at PSV? |
22 May 2002
|
| According
to a story in Dutch daily newspaper the "Algemeen Dagblad",
Morten Olsen is one of the candidates tipped to succeed Eric Gerets as PSV
coach. "He fits the profile that the club have in mind, combining
years of experience with a talent for diplomacy", according to a
correspondent travelling with the team in China. Olsen previously looked
after Ajax for a season-and-a-half but, despite winning the double, was
fired in 1998. The 52 year-old Dane is currently Denmark's national coach
and preparing to guide the squad through the World Cup in Japan and South
Korea.

| PSV
sack Eric
Gerets!!! |
21 May 2002
|
| In
a shock announcement, although not 100%, PSV have announced they are
parting company with coach Eric Gerets! The Belgian trainer signed a (so-called for life!?!)
new contract only last
season but disappointing
results, failure in the domestic league/cup as well as in Europe, have
obviously precipitated his premature departure. There had been rumours and
rumblings for
some time in Eindhoven and it was becoming increasingly clear that Gerets' position at the club was in jeopardy.
Nevertheless, the news
is still very much a summer surprise and a personal blow for Gerets!
|
| Rommedahl
nostalgic for the Robson days |
21 May 2002
|
| PSV's
Dennis Rommedahl has been talking in an interview with Dutch daily newspaper
the "Brabants Dagblad" about his desire to play for Bobby Robson once again.
The Danish international worked with Robson when he was trainer at PSV ,
"He is a good coach and hopefully I will get the chance to work with
him again next season." Rommedahl also added "I always had
the impression that Robson's way of working was much more effective in getting
everything out of the players. At PSV, Gerets can sometimes seem very
distant from the players." The striker may get the chance if he's
snapped up by Robson's Newcastle United when, as is rumoured, he leaves
Eindhoven this summer.

| PSV
beat China |
14 May 2002
|
| PSV
have followed up their earlier 4-1 win against Thailand by beating the
Chinese national team 1-0 in Shanghai as part of the Eindhoven side's
Asian tour. Adil Ramzi scored the only goal of the match in the 14th
minute. 57,000 people turned out to watch the match in the Pudong stadion
and 250 million tuned in to watch it on Chinese television.
