Who goes up, who goes down
The playoff system?

The basic story of promotion and relegation is simple -
The winner of the Eerste Divisie always goes up and the last team in the Ere Divisie (No. 18) always goes down.

Which leaves the playoffs!
The playoffs is the end of season competition where the 16th and 17th placed Ere Divisie clubs compete for survival with the 4 winners of the Eerste Divisie Period titles plus the two clubs with the highest end-of-season rankings.

So, in total there are 8 clubs that compete in the end of season playoffs (2 Ere Divisie and 6 Eerste Divisie) and those 8 clubs are split into 2 groups.

The 2 groups are comprised as follows:
The Number 16 and 17 from the Ere Divisie are placed in different groups. The rest of the places go, as we said, to the 4 Eerste Divisie Period title winners and the teams that actually end the season in the highest positions in the Eerste Divisie (excluding any of the period title winners).
The Group Winners play in the Ere Divisie next season 2003-2004!!!
