| Utrecht's
Vreven signs for Kaiserslautern |
01 May 2003 |
Utrecht's Belgium bull terrier Stijn Vreven has
signed a three year deal with German side Kaiserslautern and all that
remains is for both clubs to reach a final agreement to allow the defender
to apply his trade in the German Bundesliga next season. According to a
Utrecht spokesman this should not be a problem because Vreven may leave
Utrecht for a nominal amount as the Eredivisie side still owe him money.
"The conditions in which Vreven may leave the club are known. We are
no longer a party at the table. As soon as Vreven finds himself a new club
who wants to pay what is in the contract that he has with us, he can go."
In an interview in the Dutch daily newspaper 'Algemeen Dagblad' Vreven
said that the prospect of working under countryman Gerets was a decisive
factor. "The coach of the club,
Eric Gerets, has always been a role model for me. In three conversations
we reached an agreement. Shortly after the Amstel Cup match against PSV
the details were done. I had other options too, but the possibility of
working with Gerets made me sign for Kaiserslautern.
