Premiership clubs interested in Stam |

Three clubs are reported to be chasing
Dutch international defender Jaap Stam.The
Dutchman may leave Lazio for €5.6 million Euros which has alerted bargain
hunters Newcastle United, Liverpool and Arsenal who are now all seeking
talks with the defender's representatives. Lazio
chief Luca Baraldi has stated that Stam has not been chained to Lazio
saying: "If the player has offers to leave, he can do so because Lazio
is not a prison." Although Italial Serie A rivals Juventus and AC Milan
are favourites to land Stam, the Premiership trio will try their best during
the summer transfer window to bring the ex-Manchester United defender back
to England.
Whoever manages to sign the robust defender, one thing is for sure, Stam is definitely quitting Rome this
summer: Stam said: "The latest offer from the club is totally
unacceptable - and unless something changes, I will definitely not be a
Lazio player next season. Firstly, they offered to pay my outstanding salary in club shares.
Secondly, they want all the squad to agree to a 45 per cent cut in their
contract terms for next season. In my view, this offer is laughable. I understand that the club is
in a difficult position but I cannot go to the supermarket and buy groceries
for my family with shares. I cannot expect people to accept payment for goods with Lazio
certificates. I expected Lazio to honour the contract that both parties agreed to
two years ago. It is as simple as that."
