Feynoord's
Australian midfielder Brett Emerton, who has been trying to secure a move to
the Premier League for the past two seasons could finally be on his way this
summer after Sir Brian Robson's Newcastle United have stated that they are
expecting to secure his signature. According to the brittish weekly
newspaper "The Sunday Sun" Emerton's fine performance during
Australia's 3-1 defeat of England last week has rekindled Newcastle's
interest in the player and they are now prepared to offer Feyenoord three
million pounds. Emerton's current contract runs out in 2004 and Feyenoord
are planning totalks with Emerton for a contract extention. According to
the 'Sunday Sun"Emerton will refuse Feyenoord's offer, meaning they
will have to cash in on him this year. Emerton said:
"I'm disappointed I didn't get to go to England last year, It's
important I perform well, because if I do, I think the chance will be there
to move abroad in the future."
