| Milan
hot favorite to capture Chivu |
15 Mar 2003
|
| According
to the Italian sport-newspaper 'Gazzetto dello sport' AS Milan
look to be winning the race for Ajax's Rumanian international defender,
Christian Chivu. The club is believed to willing to pay 10-15 million
euros but Ajax have put a 18 million euro price tag on his neck. If
Milan make the scoop then they will be forced to sell a non EEC player
as Italian rules are stringent in the number of players that a club may
have on their books from outside of the EEC. If Chivu does decide to
make the move he will see his salary more than double according to the
report. Ajax's chairman, Michael van Praag has said that Ajax will not
try to hold the player against his will stating "Footballers are
human, not slaves and there we will never hold anybody here against
their will.
