Juventus supremo Vittorio Chiusano is confident coach Marcello Lippi will
sign a contract extension in the next couple of days.
Lippi's contract expires in the summer but Chiusano, vice-president of
the Italian champions, says they are close to sorting out a new deal. "Lippi's contract renewal is not a problem - we have an
agreement," Chiusano told Italian radio station RAI.
"The only aspect to be defined is the duration of the contract. I
think this will be done in the next few days."
Lippi however stated after last nights 3-0 win over Inter Milan that
if he is to stay on then the club will have to make a few purchases. Top of
Lippi's shopping list is Dutch international Jaap Stam.
"I find all the criticism about our defence exaggerated especially as
our defence has conceeded the least amount of goals this season but on the
other hand it would not be a bad idea if we would buy an experienced
defender like Jaap Stam." Juventus are prepared to pay Lazio 9 million
euros, Lazio are asking 10 million and according to Juventus's Luciano Moggi
it's just a question of time before Stam joins Juventus.
