Although Australian midfielder Brett
Emerton has had no official contact with Newcastle, the Feyenoord players
has stated in reply to rumours that he would relish the chance to join the
Tyneside club. Sir Bobby Robson's summer bid of €11.2 million was Rejected
in August but with the transfer market at an all time low, Newcastle could
well sign the player for a reduced Feyenoord rejected Newcastle's
offer of Euros then, but in the current financial climate it is
believed the Barclaycard Premiership club could get their man for around
€11.2 million Euros. Emerton was reported as saying "I haven't
heard anything other than what has been said before, that the club
[Newcastle] have shown an interest in me. If
that's true then that's good news. Newcastle are a big club and I've made no
secret of my desire to play in the English Premiership. But
no talks have taken place at the moment. I'm still a Feyenoord player and I
am completely committed to helping the club achieve all their goals this
season.
