| Chelsea
planning to ditch Hasselbaink |
11 May 2003

|
Dutch international striker Jimmy Floyd
Hasselbaink and French international midfielder Marcel Desailly are to be
sacrificed as part of Chelsea's cost-cutting measures. Hasselbaink, who
normally scores at least 20 goals each term, has had a disastrous
season having only scored just 11 Premiership goals this season and it is
believed that a number of Chelsea stars would now like to see Hasselbaink
ditched for Liverpool ace Carlton Cole. It is not only Hasselbainks lack of
scoring that have urged Chelsea to consider his position but more a question
of money. A clause in Hasselbaink's
contract means that Chelsea may reduce the 31-year-old players wages to €100,000
Euros a week for the final two years of his contract but with the club
facing debts totaling €125
million Euros, even the reduced wages are a too heavy a burden for the club.
