Beenhakker seeks refuge after mobbing

05 Jun 2003

Leo Beenhakker,  who resigned as Ajax's technical director last Monday,  is to return to Mexican side America whom he coached  during the 1994-95 season. Beenhaker has agreed a new two-year deal with the South American's.
America's president Javier Perez Teuffer said : "We're really happy to have him back. We made a decision because we can't have our stadium full only of concrete. We want it full of fans and to do that we need to produce good performances and goals and Beenhakker will give us that."
The 60-year-old Dutchman will begin his duties on July 1.
Beehakker
: "The football is for the fans. We will look to give good performances, to get results and success."
Although Beenhakker has refused to say why he has decided to leave Holland according to reports on Amsterdam's  local TV station AT5, Beenhakker is seeking refuge in Mexico after having being beaten up by an uncouth mob of 'Ajax fans'.
