Arsenal are believed to be on the verge of bringing out an offer for
Ajax captain Christian Chivu after witnessing his defensive qualities in
their two champion league draws with Ajax. The Gunners's interest will
undoubtedly prompt Real Madrid, who have been following Chivu for the
past two months, plus number of other European top clubs to come up with
offers. Arsene Wenger has a severe shortage in center backs at
Arsenal especially after selling Matthew Upson and at the age of 36,
first choice center back Keown is nearing his retirement. The Chivu
euros would certainly be welcome at Ajax and would be sufficient to help
them keep hold of the rest of their young squad intact.
