The Dutch FA (KNVB) have
rejected Ajax's request to have their away match against Groningen at the
Oosterpark stadium postponed. The mayor of Groningen Mr. Wallage had decided
to ban the Amsterdammers' fans from being present due to the undoubted risk
of serious crowd trouble. Ajax initially wanted to scrap the match
altogether or wait until Grnigen were prepared ton issue the 800 tickets for
their fans but have now accepted the FA's decision and the match will go
ahead. there will, however, be an investigation to see if Groningen have not
met the stipulated safety-measures according to the latest rules decided on
earlier this year in Holland which require clubs to meet a certain standard
for the stands occupied by away fans. As it is there will still be a special
police presence to prevent any rogue Ajax fans trying to reach the stadium
for Sunday's clash!
