Fulham
win battle for Vitesse's Sikora
14 July 2002
Fulham and Vitesse have reached
agreement on the transfer of Victor Sikora to the English Premiership
side, ending weeks of speculation concerning the actual destination of the
winger. Ajax's Ronald Koeman wanted to add the Dutch international to his
squad but the Amsterdammers were unable to come up with an offer which
satisfied the Arnhemmers. Sikora himself still has to agree terms with the
South-London side but Vitesse spokesperson Frank Huizinga expects no
problems on that front and added that the Gelredome club were more than
happy with the deal. Sikora has been with Vitesse for the last 3 seasons
and had a contract which ran till the summer of 2005. The Dutch
international (6 caps) and former Go Ahead Eagles player scored 20 goals
in 84 Ere Divisie matches for Vitesse. Later this week they also hope to announce the
signing of 23 year-old Yugoslavian midfielder
Aleksander Rankovic,
who's joining the squad at their training camp in Hoenderloo for a trial.
