Vitesse complete signing of Rankovic

19 July 2002

Vitesse trainer Mike Snoei has completed his squad with the addition of Yugoslavian midfielder Alexander Rankovic who's signed a deal for the coming 5 years with the Arnhemmers. Rankovic is the replacement for the recently departed Michel Kreek (off to AEK Athene) and Mahamadou Diarra (signed for Olympique Lyon). Snoei is impressed by the fast and aggressive midfielder who is equally at home helping out in defence as he is in scoring when he pushes forward. The 23 year-old turned down offers from Yugoslavian clubs, Red Star and Partizan, and could also have chosen to go to Greek side AEK Athena but feels his career will benefit from the experience he'll gain at the Gelredome! The only remaining obstacle is the work-permit he still requires in order to play in the Ere Divisie!
