After days of speculation, rumour and confusion
Ajax have been able to persuade AZ's reserve keeper Henk Timmer to come to
the ArenA on a one-year loan deal. The 30 year-old keeper spent last season
on loan to Feyenoord and was disappointed when he wasn't able to make the
move permanent. The Rotterdammers and the Alkmaarders couldn't reach
agreement on a transfer-fee and so he returned to AZ where Oscar Moens had
been declared 1st choice. Another problem for Timmer in a move to Ajax was
the risk of becoming 3rd or 4th choice keeper when Lobont and Didulica come
back from injury. Another obstacle was that AZ wanted to sell him whereas
Ajax only wanted to hire him for 4 months but the two clubs apparently
reached agreement on the deal yesterday. Timmer himself has agreed today to
a one-year spell in Amsterdam where he's already passed his medical and
joined the squad for training.
