Koeman takes Van Damme to Milan

24 Sep 2002

Ronald Koeman has decided to take the young Belgian defender Jelle van Damme to Milan for tomorrow's Champions League clash. It's a dream come true for Van Damme who's been picked to replace American international John O'Brien. The 18 year-old who can't quite believe his luck. "I missed most of the pre-season preparations due to the matches I played for the Belgian youth team  and it was difficult for me to readjust when I returned to Ajax. Recently things have improved and last week I finally started to feel more confident, so the news that my trainer has chosen me to replace O'Brien is an opportunity not to be missed."
