Stormvogels/Telstar have hired Sunderland's Dutch
defender Baki Mercimek on a loan deal for the rest of the season. The
defender came up through Ajax's youth academy and was dubbed the 'new Jaap
Stam' here in Holland but, after
being brought to Wearside in 2001 when his contract with Haarlem expired,
has failed to live up to expectations with Peter Reid's team.
