A piece of research by the Universiity of Utrecht
has revealed that of all the footballing towns in Holland Volendam is the
no.1 football community. Researchers have based their conclusion on the
club's successes in the Eredivisie, the place of origin of Dutch internationals and the level of ability
shown by various weekend amateurs.
The results were then weighted by the number of inhabitants involved and
Volendam came out top, having produced such names as Arnold and Gerrie Mühren
plus Wim Jonk.
