fear that Babos could be Barca bound |
26
Jun 2003 |
NAC
are worried that their Hungarian goalkeeper Gabor Babos could follow their
former trainer Henk ten Cate to Barcelona following his appointment as assistant
to Barcelona's new trainer, Dutchman Frank Rijkaard. Babos played a key
role in NAC's successful season in which the team ended 4th placed earning
themselves a European spot for next season.
NAC's new trainer Tom Lokhoff is not surprised that the Hungarian has been
linked with a summer move to Barca. Lokhoff: "It
was the first thing that crossed my mind when I heard that Henk ten Cate
became the assistant to Frank Rijkaard at the Nou Camp. That Barca have a
keeper problem is clear. They have had that problem for years. Actually,
they have never had a good keeper since Ruud Hesp left the club (in 2000).
"I believes 100 per cent that
they will try to sign a new keeper and Ten Cate will drop the name of
Babos I'm sure." |

started with this job with three people and when they were forced to leave
the club, I would now like to stand by them. I

that it is impossible to refuse. It's believed that Ten Cate will inform his
players that he will be leaving this morning. Rumours have also suggested
that Feyenoord, who are in need of cash, may well decide to let their
trainer Bart van Marwijk leave for Schalke '04 and opt for Ten Cate, who is
currently there first choice. However, it remains to be seen if the Saudi

Ten Cate frustrated with strikers |
26 Mar 2003
|
|
NAC trainer Henk ten Cate has stated that
he is becoming more and more frustrated at his side's problems in scoring goals,
insisting that if NAC's strikers were more productive then they would have a higher
position in the league table and has led the trainer to bump up his search
for a goal-machine. NAC have already draw 11 times this season and last
weekend's 0-0 was their fifth goalless draw of the season. Ten Cate: "It's a
frustration, sScoring goals is the problem for us. In seven or eight matches we have been the better team but not
scored. We have even missed penalties. We actually should have a higher
position in the table. A real striker, a top scorer who can get at least 15 or 20 goals is
what we need. Our defence is okay but one of our strikers, Orlando Engelaar, is
really a midfielder and our other one, Bart van den Eede, is lacking
certainty at the moment."

point in 10 games. For the Breda side the result was their 7th draw in 11
matches and Rob Penders' 200th professional appearance.

| Utrecht
beat NAC 1-0 |
03 Nov 2002
|
|
Utrecht
lineup: Ponk - Vreven, Van Mol, Schut,
Touzani - Bosschaart, De Jong, Tanghe, Jochemsen - Van den Bergh, Kuijt.
NAC
lineup: Babos - Fehér, Penders, Schenning, Gudelj, Colin - Schreuder - Van
den Eede, Bobson, Boussaboun, Engelaar.
'Man of the Match' for Utrecht
was Pascal Bosschaart who had a great match but it was a Dave van den Bergh goal in
the 78th minute, and two terrific saves by stand-in goalie René Ponk, that
gave the Domstad side the points. The win takes them into 9th
place on 13 points from 9 games. NAC stay where they are in 5th place on 15
points from 10 played.

| Schenning
back against Utrecht |
01 Nov 2002
|
|
Mark Schenning will return for
NAC as they face Utrecht on Sunday after recovering from the calf injury he
picked up in the match against Ajax back on September 29th. the 32 year-old
defender was back in training with trainer Henk ten Cate's squad on Monday
and his reappearance could well mean that Marcel Koning will be relegated to
the bench. Nineteen-year-old Levi Risamasu is also ready to play, after a
long absence through injury, but the defender will be turning out for
reserve team Jong NAC for the time being.

| NAC
and Vitesse fail to score 0-0 |
25 Oct 2002
|
|
NAC
lineup: Gábor Babos - Jürgen Colin,
Marcel Koning, Rob Penders, Nebojsa Gudelj - Csaba Fehér, Orlando Engelaar,
Orlando Engelaar - Earnest Stewart, Ali Boussaboun, Kevin Bobson. Vitesse
lineup: Dragoslav Jevric - Alexandar Rankovic, Tim Cornelisse, Dejan
Stefanovic, Purrel Fränkel - Nick Hofs, Ricky Bochem, Theo Janssen, Evgeny
Levchenko - Matthew Amoah, Riga Mustapha.
This match totally failed to live up to the
expectations of a clash between two Ere Divisie sub-toppers with the
Arnhemmers refusing to attack and the Breda team unable to do so either. It
was 80 minutes of absolutely unentertaining football for the fans who'd
turned up to watch with only the remaining 10 minutes delivering something
resembling a contest. NAC finally dared to launch some attacks but only once
managed to cause goalie Dragoslav Jevric any problems when Bart van den Eede
came not-quite-close-enough to putting away a Kevin Bobson pass. Vitesse had
clearly decided not to risk another defeat after their 0-2 against Roda on
Tuesday home and were content to take home un point.

| NAC
hunt 3rd place against Vitesse |
25 Oct 2002
|
|
NAC can repeat their trick of
last week (when the Breda side went briefly into 3rd place with a win
against NEC) and take back their Ere Divisie 3rd place ranking tonight, by
beating Vitesse. Henk ten Cate's them still miss the injured Mark Schenning
while the stats are against them winning. They've only actually won once at
home to the Arnhemmers, a 1-0 win on April 16th 1972. Vitesse are only two
cards away from achieving the 900 yellow card mark - Jan Meeuwsen
picked up their first ever back on August 20th 1972. Vitesse will most
likely miss Gert Claessens and Bob Peeters.

| Zwolle
lose to
NAC 0-3 |
20 Oct 2002
|
|
Zwolle
lineup: Van der Werff - Doesburg, Schol,
Kras, van der Haar - M. Roelofsen, Cvetkov, De Ridder - Bosschaart, R.
Roelofsen, Lim-Duan.
NAC
lineup: Babos - Colin, Penders, Mensah, Gudelj - Fehér, Schreuder, Engelaar
- Stewart, Boussaboun, Bobson.
Henk ten Cate's team have made a fine start to
the season with a string of solid looking performances and after this result
remain unbeaten in 8 matches. NAC's convincing 0-3 away win at Zwolle boosts
them into 5th place. They controlled the match in the Oosterenk Stadium and
Zwolle-trainer Peter Boeve's defensive lineup proved to be the wrong choice
of tactic. Orlando Engelaard the score in the 23rd minute, his 5th of
the season, Csaba Fehér adding a 2nd in the 34th. Zwolle only once
bothered goalie Gábor Babos and that was when the match was already well
advanced with NAC 3-0 up after defender Rob Penders had headed in the 3rd in
the 49th. NAC are now one of a select group of 3 unbeaten teams, the others
being Ajax and PSV. This was coincidentally Earnest Stewart's 350th Ere
Divisie match. The United States international, made his Ere Divisie debut
on September 25th 1988 for VVV and played a total of 27 for them before
making 171 appearances for Willem II and 152 so far for NAC.

sign Adnan Barakat |
17 Oct 2002
|
|
NAC have signed left-winger Adnan
Barakat on a contract for 4 years. heeft een contract getekend bij NAC.
Barakat, who is a former Ajax youth player, has been playing for the Breda
club's reserve team since the summer. Before arriving in Breda the 20
year-old made an unsuccessful attempt to earn himself a deal with French
side Paris-Saint Germain.

| NAC
and PSV draw 2-2 |
05 Oct 2002 |
|
NAC lineup: Babos
- Colin, Penders, Mensah, Gudelj - Stewart, Fehér, Schreuder - Bobson,
Engelaar, Van den Eede.
PSV
lineup: Waterreus - Břgelund, Ooijer, Faber, Bouma - Van der Schaaf, Van
Bommel, Vogel - Rommedahl, Kezman, Robben.
For
the second week in a row NAC have frustrated one of the 'Top 3', with a 2-2
home draw against PSV after doing exactly the same against Ajax last Sunday.
They actually deserved the points but were eventually denied them by a 90th
minute Dennis Rommedahl goal. PSV were a team off-form and out-of-sorts,
deflated after their disappointing C-L defeat by Borussia Dortmund. In
theng half an hour neither side looked likely to score, apart from one
golden opportunity which Dennis Rommedhal managed to miss. NAC continued to
be the better team and, after half an hour in which neither side looked
likely to score, went ahead in the 31st with the first of Orlando Engelaar's
goals, the tall forward profitting from an amateurish error by Waterreus and
Ooijer. NAC were encouraged but didn't managed to convert it into goals and
after the break Rommedahl set up Mateja Kezman for the equalizer in the
57th. Engelaar put the 2-1 on the board in the 76th, easily slipping by
Ooijer to pass Waterreus before Rommedahl equalized for PSV to give them a
point in the 90th. |
| Bobson
back for today's clash with PSV |
05 Oct 2002
|
|
Kevin Bobson's injury has turned
out to be less serious than originally thought and the striker looks certain
to play in today's match when NAC play host to PSV in the Fujifilm stadium.
Bobson, who's on loan from Ajax, picked up the injury in last Sunday's match
against Ajax when he was at the end of an overly agressive charge by Steven
Pienaar. Fortunately he was able to train again on Thursday and looks fit
enough to start today. One definite absentee is defender Mark Schenning
whose ankle injury should keep him out for another few days. Better news is
that Rick Versteeg and Marcel Koning have resumed training on Thursday after
long absences through knee injuries. Versteeg has been out for more than 6
months while Koning picked up his injury during the pre-season preparations.

| Ajax
and NAC in 2-2 |
29 Sep 2002
|
Ajax
lineup: Joey Didulica, Hatem Trabelsi, Christian Chivu,
Abubakari Yakubu, Jelle van Damme, Tomas Galasek, Richard Witschge,
Steven Pienaar, Victor Sikora, Zlatan
Ibrahimovic.
NAC lineup:Gabor Babos, Csaba Feher,
Rob Penders, Mark Schenning, Nebojsa Gudelj, Earnest Stewart, Alfred
Schreuder, Jurgen Colin, Igor Korneev, Orlando Engelaar, Kevin Bobson.
Ajax got off to an absolutely disastrous start
this afternoon and can count themselves lucky to have earned themselves a
point out of this match. There were major changes made by Ronald Koeman to
his lineup with Steven Pienaar starting in midfield alongside Richard
Witschge, Sikora and Boukhari on the wings and no Jari Litmanen! A Trabelsi
blunder allowed Kevin Bobson, on loan to NAC from Ajax, to put the visitors
head after only 3 minutes. An equally incredible defensive slipup by the
Tunisian defender allowed Amrican international Earnest Stewart to increase
the Breda side's lead in the 21st. Mido was brought on for Yakubu later on
in the half and Van der Meyde for Sikora to inject some energy into a
lethargic looking frontline and later Chivu departed with a worrying injury
to be replaced by Johnny Heitinga. Some very unhappy fans whistled their
team into the dressing-room at halftime. Koeman gave his lineup a good
talking to and Ajax reemerged with a better attitude, Zlatan
Ibrahimovic finally slotting home a simple goal in the 47th and Mido scoring
a fine goal in the 56th from a Zlatan pass. A lot of stoppages disrupted the
flow of play from then on and the Amsterdammers lost their momentum. In fact
they were lucky that NAC substitutes Boussaboun and Van den Eede weren't a
bit sharper or else they'd have dropped 3 points.

Sep 2002
|
NAC
lineup: Babos - Colin, Penders, Schenning, Gudelj - Fehér, Schreuder,
Boussaboun - Engelaar, Van den Eede, Bobson.
Twente lineup: Paauwe -
Grujic, El-Brazi, Heubach, Ouédraego - Cziommer, Zomer, Polak - Cairo,
Booth, Cavens.
NAC may still be hovering on the brink of
financial ruin but they are doing far better business on pitch. The Breda side is
unbeaten so far this season and tonight they beat Twente 2-0. Kevin Bobsond the score in the 35th and American international Earnest Stewart made
it 2-0 in the 79th. NAC have won 9 points from their first 5 games and
tonight's was their first home win. The last time they beat Twente was
on March 14th 1998 when Stewart also scored, putting away the only goal.

Heerenveen lose 0-2 to NAC |
14 Sep 2002

Heerenveen
lineup: Vonk - Bakkati, De Nooijer, Hansson, Edman - Radomski, Barsom,
Jensen - Nurmela, Denneboom, Samardzic.
NAC
lineup: Babos - Fehér, Penders, Schenning, Gudelj - Schreuder,
Engelaar, Colin - Boussaboun, Van den Eede, Bobson.
Heerenveen continue their poor start to the
season and are still waiting to win a match. The Frieslanders put in another
disappointing performance against NAC, having their chances to net some goals
but missing them all while the Breda side were simply in better form. Orlando Engelaar put away NAC's 1600th
Ere Divisie goal in the 12th minute and added a 2nd in the 23rd in a fine
perfomance to give the visitors
the points in the Abe Lenstra stadium.

| NAC's
future in jeopardy |
31 Aug 2002
|
|
The future of Ere Divisie NAC hangs by a thread after
Ernst & Young's accountancy report on the financial situation at the Breda
club revealed that there are debts totalling € 10 million Euros! It's far more
than the € 4.2 million Euros, as earlier reported, for which the local council
had arranged an emergency loan to cover. If the money is not found soon to put
the club back on its financial-feet it will mean the end of the road!
Ernst & Young's report shows that the club's financial malaise is the result
of over-optimistic predictions of the forecasted incomes, which the club had
based its spending policy on, while the costs the club ran up were also grossly
underestimated! Too add to the problems the organisational structure at the club
was too complicated, with several of the key figures charged with overseeing the
club's business also being involved in sponsoring NAC as well as being active in
the real estate sector with the obvious conflict of interests!? The end result
is a financial and oragnisational chaos which will need an extreme effort by all
parties, the club itself, its fans, business partners and the local council if
NAC are to have any hope of surviving. It's also abundantly clear that players
and personnel will have to go/be sold in order to reduce costs as part of any
rescue plan, with the inherent risk of losing existing sponsors!

| NAC and
NEC in goalless draw |
31 Aug 2002
|
|
NAC
lineup: Babos - Colin, Penders, Schenning, Gudelj - Fehér, Slot, Schreuder,
Boussaboun - Van den Eede, Bobson.
NEC
lineup: Gentenaar - Schuurman, Wielaert, Hesp, Wisgerhof - Simr, Govedarica,
Hersi, Zonneveld - De Nooijer, Demouge.
There
were no records tonight for either team as the match ended in a goalless
draw. NAC and NEC treated the fans to a bloodless
display tonight in Breda with the hometeam being rather the better of the
two but without managing to create any real goal-scoring chances. NEC
clearly came to get a point and that's exactly what they took home.

25 Aug 2002
|
Willem
II lineup: De Vlieger,Jaliens, Van Nieuwstadt, Janssens, J.

NAC lineup: Babos, Colin,
Penders, Koning, Gudelj, Fehér, Slot, Schreuder, Boussaboun, Van den
Eede, Bobson.
The Brabant derby between Willem II and
NAC has ended in a 1-1 draw. The Tricoloresd well but NAC soon took
control of the match, Bart van den Eede giving them the lead before his
former Den Bosch teammate Mourad Mghizrat levelled the score 7 minutes
before the break. NAC pushed for a match-winner in the 2nd half but
substitute Orlando Engelaar missed with the best chance they had. The
match saw the return of NAC's American international Earnest Stewart,
replacing Van den Eede for the second-act, after being out with a groin
injury he picked up during the United States' World Cup campaign. |

and Roda draw 2-2 |
17 Aug 2002
|
NAC lineup: Babos, Fehér, Penders, Schenning, Gudelj, Colin, Petö,
Schreuder, Slot, Bobson and Boussaboun.
Roda JC lineup: Kujovic, Rudge, Filipovic, Luijpers, Sonkaya, Van Dijk, Van
Dessel, Nygaard, Van Mieghem, Cristiano and Anastasiou.
NAC and Roda JC have drawn theirng match of the season 2-2 in an entertaining 'Avondje NAC' match in
Breda. The home team dominated the 1st half with Kevin Bobson and Ali
Boussaboun threatening to score but only took the lead after the break through goals by
new signing Arne Slot in
the 24th minute and Csaba Fehér in the 51st. They were the far stronger
looking of the two teams, even without the injured Earnest Stewart and Bart
van den Eede, but threw away the points with two defensive blunders. Igor
Korneev came on to loud applause in the 2nd half - turning out as an amateur
for the Breda side he's by far the cheapest player in the Ere Divise,
awaiting financially better times at the club or an offer to play somewhere
else. The match looked wrapped up
for NAC but Roda fought back, applying
the counter-principle trainer Wiljan Vloet used as the backbone of his
tactics at his previous club Den Bosch, and goals by Marc Nygaard (56th) and Van Dessel
(85th) gave the 'Kerkrade Crew' a point to take home.

| NAC's
general manager Oltmans resigns |
13 Aug 2002
|
|
NAC's general manager Roelant Oltmans has resigned
after being under considerable pressure in recent weeks to step down due to the
club's financial crisis. The ailing club's survisory board will follow suit once
a new 'team' has been appointed. Many supporters held the former national
basketball coach reponsible for the Breda club's financial debts of €8.6 million
Euros and only the support of several sponsors and a loan from the local council
enabled the club to obtain their licence for the coming season.
|
| Korneev
plays for NAC as amateur |
13 Aug 2002
|
|
Igor Korneev will be playing for NAC this season,
surprisingly as an amateur,
after
failing either to obtain a new contract at Feyenoord or find a new club this
summer. The
34 year-old former Spartak Moskou, CSKA Moskou, RCD Espanyol, FC Barcelona
and Heerenveen midfielder has been keeping fit by training with Excelsior
and Heerenveen while he also had a recent trial with Dordrecht. He's a
welcome addition to trainer Henk ten Cate's squad, "We're glad to make
use of him while we can although we realise that he'll be off as soon as a
club comes to call with an interesting offer. Until then the youngsters in
the squad can certainly learn a lot from his experience and NAC fans can
enjoy watching him in action."

NAC
have been knocked out of the Intertoto tournament by French side Troyes
after a goalless away draw in France. They had the better chnaces of the
match in Auxerre but newcomers Bart van den Eede and Ali Boussaboun failed
to convert them into balls-in-the-back-of-the-net while Alfred Schreuder
picked up a thigh injury.

draw against Troyes in Intertoto |
21 July 2002
|
|
NAC have drawn theirng match of the
Intertoto tournament in Breda yesterday against French side Troyes with a
1 - 1 result. The French went ahead with a goal by Frédéric Danjou early
in the 2nd half (49th) but Arne Slot (who arrived from Zwolle this summer
and was making his NAC debut) equalized late in the half (83rd) to give
them some hope of doing better in the return and getting through to the
next round.

| Troyes
AC are definitely NAC's Intertoto 3rd round opponents after the French
Division 1 side beat Nothern Irish side Coleraine 2-1 at home after a 1-2
away win in the first leg last week. Both NAC and Willem II are hoping to
become the first Dutch teams ever to gain entry to the UEFA Cup via the
Intertoto Cup.
|
| NAC
miss Stewart for several months? |
12 July 2002
|
|
NAC are likely to miss their American striker
Earnest Stewart for the next few months as he's still suffering from the
groin injury he picked up in the United States World Cup clash with
Portugal. On his return to Holland it turned out that the injury was worse
than originally thought. For trainer Henk ten Cate the news that the 33
year-old will be out of action, for anywhere between a minimum of several
weeks to a maximum of several months, is most unwelcome! Stewart reported
for duty on Wednesday at the squad's training camp in Doorwerth only to
leave immediately for a hospital examination!
|
| NAC
find new main sponsor |
11 July 2002
|
|
NAC are a step closer to getting their licence
for next season after they announced that they've found a new main sponsor
in the form of three companies who will see their names displayed on the
team's shirts. "Garcia Jeanswear", "Princess" and
another company belonging to Dutch businessman Joep van den Nieuwenhuyzen
will be featured on the shirts. To guarantee that they all receive equal
amounts of exposure the front, back and sleeves will display the company
logos in a revolving system - in other words every third match one of the
companies will be featured. The extra money brought in by having 3
sponsors means that the club will receive more income than in recent years
which will be sorely needed to clear the backlog of debts the club still
owe!

NAC's Jeffrey As will be going for a two-week

NAC have cancelled their friendly against
Athletic Bilbao, planned for August 8th, after the club's management
decided that it would be imprudent to spend money on an opponent for this
type of friendly when the club is still unsure of obtaining their licence
for next season. The Breda side's 'Day' on August 11th will go ahead
as planned!

NAC look likely to meet French side Troyes AC
in theirng match of the Intertoto tournament. The French Division 1
side won their first 2nd round, 1st leg match on Saturday, beating
Northern Irish side Coleraine 2-1, Mamadou Niang and Nicolas Goussé the
scorers. Club top-scorer 26 year-old Goussé is a man to watch, putting
away 13 goals last season. The return is next week.

| Council
launch rescue plan for NAC |
04 July 2002
|
| NAC
can breathe easy once more after a proposal was launched within the
municipal council in Breda to lend the ailing club €4.2 million Euros.
The Ere Divisie club are in danger of not being granted a licence for next
season due to the build up of debts. In return the town council will be
given a major say in the running of the club starting with the appointment
of council secretary Mr. Ouwerkerk as director and another important post
for another council official with special veto rights for both! This
evening there will be full council meeting to vote on the motion. |
| NAC
call-off Stewart extension talks |
19 Jun 2002
|
| Negotiations
between NAC and their United States international Earnest Stewart
regarding an extension of the midfielder's contract have ground to a halt.
Apparently a lack of money at the Breda side is part of the problem (see
our story on the coming merger between the club and amateurs De Baronie)
plus the fact that the 33 year-old is said to want to end his career with
an American club! Stewart grew up in Holland and has never played in the
MLS league but his performances for NAC, and the US in the World Cup, have
attracted the interest of several clubs. He captained the US team in their
3-2 group win against Portugal and substituted in the match against
Mexico.
|
| NAC
to sign Van Barneveld/Fujimoto
soon |
19 Jun 2002
|
NAC are poised to sign Fortuna
Sittard's Joos van Barneveld but, although the player and the Breda side
have reached agreement on terms, the deal still hangs in the balance. The
20 year-old must wait until the Dutch FA's (KNVB) arbitration committee
gives their approval to Fortuna to sell-off most of their squad due to the
club's precarious financial situation. If the club is declared bankrupt Van
Barneveld will be transfer-free but if Fortuna survive, and retain their
professional status, both club will have to agree a transfer-fee before
the move goes through!
It also looks as if the arrival of Japanese player Chikara Fujimoto is
imminent as negotiations are in an advanced stage and a NAC delegation has
travelled to Japan totalks with a new main-sponsor!
|
| NAC
to merge with amateurs De Baronie? |
18 Jun 2002
|
| NAC are
poised to merge with top amateur side De Baronie in an attempt to end
their financial problems after the two clubs reached agreement. The Breda
side are currently €8.2 million Euros in debt and the merger would make
it possible to earn some money by selling the amateur side's training
ground to property developers. NAC was in similar problems 3 years ago and
only by selling their Fuji-stadium to investors and the municipal council
were they able to solve their money troubles. A club delegation is
currently visiting Japan in an attempt to find a new main-sponsor.
|
| NAC
sign Bart van den Eede |
13 Jun 2002
|
| According
to a story in Dutch daily newspaper "De Telegraaf", NAC have
signed Belgian striker Bart van den Eede on a contract for 4 years. The 24
year-old joined Den Bosch from Belgian side Beveren in the summer of 2000,
scoring 23 Eerste Divisie goals in his first season and 14 Ere Divisie
goals for them last season. He is regarded as the replacement for Glen
Salmon (signed for Groningen)
plus Brazilian duo Sérgio and Cristiano (signed for Roda
JC). NAC are
also targeting Groningen's Ali Boussaboun as a possible reinforcement for
the frontline.
|

make Ali Boussaboun offer |
12 Jun 2002
|
| NAC
have made Groningen's Ali Boussaboun an offer and the 23 year-old looks
set to move to Breda as replacement for Glen Salmon who's going in the
opposite direction to the Oosterpark side. Willem II are also interested
in the striker who's been dropped in Groningen due to a series of
disciplinary problems last season. NAC badly need some firepower up front
now that Brazilian duo Sergio and Cristiano are gone and Earnest Stewart
is also entering his last season with the club.
|

moves from NAC to Groningen |
08 Jun 2002
|
| Glen
Salmon is moving from NAC to Groningen. The 24 year-old South African
striker, whose contract in Breda runs till the summer of 2003, has signed
a deal for 5 years with the Oosterpark side. He joined NAC in November
1999 and has scored 28 goals in 82 matches for them.
|
| NAC
sign Den Bosch's Bart van de Eede? |
05 Jun 2002
|
| NAC are
poised to sign Den Bosch's Bart van de Eede and it looks as if Henk ten
Cate has snatched the striker from under the noses of Willem II who were
already talking to the Belgian player. It's expected the contract, which
is worth €1 million Euros, will be signed this week. After
the collapsed deal involving Hungarian striker Attila Tököli last
weekend the Breda club have got the fresh firepower they were looking
for.
|
| NAC
call off signing Attila Tököli |
01 Jun 2002
|
| NAC
have decided not to sign Hungarian striker Attila Tököli after the 26
year-old player and his agent failed to live up to certain agreements.
Although a verbal agreement had been reached yesterday with NAC director
Roelant Oltmans there was some suspicions concerning the delay in actually
signing the deal. Tököli's agent claimed that the player was not
available to sign a contract because he was on holiday but NAC set a 15:00
hour deadline yesterday which came and went without the contract being
signed. Oltmans then decided that there was sufficient reason to call off
the transfer.
|
| NAC
sign Attila Tököli |
31 May 2002
|
| NAC
have reached a verbal agreement with Attila Tököli and he is expected to
sign a contract for 4 years with the Breda side. The Hungarian striker
currently plays for Hungarian club Dunaferr and becomes the 4th Hungarian
player in the NAC squad, the others being Gábor Babos, Csaba Fehér and
Tamás Petö. The 26 year-old international scored 28 goals last season
and is seen as the replacement for Brazilian striker Cristiano who's off
to Roda.

| Willem
II/NAC Intertoto opponents |
31 May 2002
|
Willem
II will kickoff in the 2nd Round of the Intertoto tournament (the
'backdoor' entrance to the UEFA Cup) against the winner of the 1st Round
duel between St. Gallen (Zwitserland) and B68 Toftir (Faraos). If the
Tilburgers win they face either Krylya Sovjetov Samara (Russia) or the
winner of the duel between Zaglebie Lubin (Poland) and FC Dinaburg
(Letland).
NAC kickoff in the 3rd Round and most likely face French side Troyes who
first have to win their 2nd Round match against the winner of the 1st
Round duel between Coleraine (Ierland) and St. Julia (Andorra).
Willem II play at home on July 6th or 7th with a return a week later while
3rd Round matches will take place on July 20th or 21st with the returns on
either July 27th or 28th.

Roma want Babos? |
29 May 2002
|
| According
to the respected Hungarian site Borsodiliga.hu, NAC's Gábor Babos has
attracted the interest of Italian Serie A side AS Roma. The 27 year-old
Hungarian keeper has a contract in Breda which runs till 2004 but was
targeted earlier this year by Feyenoord, Ajax and Anderlecht.

| PSV
hire Colin to NAC |
26 May 2002
|
| PSV
have finally agreed to a loan-deal sending Jürgen Colin to NAC for next
season. The Breda club had been wanting to add the defender to the squad
for some time now but PSV were only prepared to consider a deal once
they'd done a little stocktaking of their own
players.
It's the second time that Colin is being hired out after an earlier spell during
the latter half of the season at RC Genk where he only played 7 matches. NAC
trainer Henk ten Cate has said he'll be sure to see more action than that with
his team.

Brood as head of their youth training scheme. The 'Bredanaars' are
planning to reduce the amount of youth teams they have, with the aim of
achieving higher quality as opposed to mere quantity. NAC's manager Oltman
stated on their web site that they no longer intend to have players in
their youth squads simply to make up the numbers and that, from now on, they
were only interested in 'real talents'.
