25 Aug 2002

Ajax have broken their run of defeats at the Gelredome with a 1-2 win this afternoon. Cristian Chivu's 2nd half goal gave the Amsterdammers the points after Matthew Amoah had put Vitesse ahead in the 16th minute and Petri Pasanen had equalized in the 51st. Ajax fielded an eleven without wingers
Sikora and Van der Meyde as Ronald Koeman experimented with a 4-3-3- formation. Ajax played with Ahmed Hossam and Zlatan Ibrahimovic up front but Vitesse looked the more threatening team in theng half. Emile Mbamba created theng for theng goal giving Amoah the chance to put it away in the 16th minute. Nick Hofs and Mbamba failed to convert otherngs while Rafael van der Vaart and Mido also failed to find the back-of-the-net. Theo Janssen hit the bar with a freekick after the break but, later on, Dragoslav Jevric's failure to clear Zlatan Ibrahimovic's shot gave Petri Pasanen the chance to slot home in the 51st. Christian Chivu
slammed home a surprise winning goal from a freekick which remained unanswered by the home team's Kalle Sone, Mbamba and Janssen who all missed opportunities to level the score and retain their unbeaten home record against the Amsterdammers.
