Utrecht and Vitesse had a tough, physical general rehearsal
for their coming UEFA Cup 2nd leg matches later this week with an Ere
Divisie clash in the Nieuw Galgenwaard stadium. The visitors got off to the
better start thanks to the inspiration of Riga Mustapha. The aggressive play
forced referee Luinge to dig into his pocket and it wasn't long before
Vitesse were reduced to
playing the rest of the match with 10 men - after only 16 minutes Marian
Zeman was sent for an early shower for hitting out at an opponent. Utrecht's
Dave van
den Bergh scored the only goal of the match in the 28th for the Domstad side
who had a lot of trouble exploiting their superiority in numbers and finding
it difficult to subdue their opponents. There were plenty of chances for both teams after the break which made
for a lively spectacle, Utrecht hitting the woodwork twice through Jean-Paul
de Jong and Stefaan Tanghe while in the closing stages Emile Mbabma missed
the best chance of the match for Vitesse.
