| Twente
and Utrecht draw 1-1 |
25 Aug 2002
|
Twente
lineup: Boschker, El-Brazi, Van der Weerden, Grujic, Heubach,Cziommer, Ouédraego,
Houwing, Polak, Caïro, Booth.
Utrecht lineup: Wapenaar,
Vreven, Zwaanswijk, Touzani, Shew A Tjon, Tanghe,De Jong, Bosschaart, Van
den Bergh, Kuijt, Gluscevic.
Twente and Utrecht both earned their
first point of the new season with a 1-1 draw at the Arke stadium in
Enschede. Twente-coach René Vandereycken missed striker Jack de Gier and
latest signing Jurgen Cavens (signed from Standard Luik). Their absence gave
Thijs Houwing the chance to play and he repaid it with theng goal,
punishing a blunder by Tom van Mol's replacement Etienne Shew-Atjon.
Twente's advantage didn't last long as, within seven minutes, the Domstad
side drew level when Dirk Kuijt headed in Dave van den Bergh's cross.
Utrecht continued to play the better football after the break but it was the
home team who had the best chances in the closing stages to seal the points,
only Simon Cziommer and substitute Jeffrey de Visscher failed to convert
them while Van den Bergh did likewise for the Tukkers. Foeke Booy's team
couldn't translate their better football into a win while Twente trainer
Vandereycken had this to say after the match, "After our defeat last
weekend by Willem II we were under pressure to do better today and I hope
that this first point has a positive effect on the team."
