Ajax had to fight hard this afternoon to
keep their hopes of qualifying for Champions League football next season
alive after coming 0-1 from behind to earn a valuable 1-2 away win against NEC.
Youssouf Hersi, on loan to NEC from
Ajax,d the score in the 11th minute after soloing through Ajax's
defense before firing home. Although Chivu replacement Yakubu twice hit the
post, the Amsterdammers went into the break trailing 1-0. After the break
Ajax upped the tempo and really began piling on the pressure and within eight
minutes the visitors equalized after Substitute Sikora headed home a Jari Litmanen
cross from close range. In the 79th minute Sikora was once again helpful after
supplying Brazilian midfielder Maxwell the assist for the important match
winning goal.
