beat Roda 3-2 |
13 Dec 2002

|
Groningen booked their first home
success against Roda since 1990 with a 3-2 win. They were 0-2 down within
half an hour of the start after goals by Cristiano (16tt) and Ivan Vicelich
(25th), leading to some crowd unrest. The referee, Eric Braamhaar, had to
halt the match for a short while, in the 33rd, due to fireworks thrown on the
pitch. After 6 minutes cooling off, Sander van Gessel reduced the gap for the
home team (40th). A rejuvenated Groningen came out of the dressing rooms for
the 2nd act and the Brazilian Hugo drew them level in the 63rd. Paul
Matthijs put away the winner 15 minutes before time. It continues the
Oosterpark side's recovery since Ron Jans took over, with 12 points in 8
matches. Groningen are now 16th while Roda sink to 6th.
