Feyenoord squeezed past NEC this afternoon and were the better team
during the 90 minutes but the Nijmegen side put up plenty of resistance and
were not going to be pushed aside. It was a late burst by the Rotterdammers
that gave them victory today against a
resilient opponent. Temperamental Cameroon striker Bonaventure Kalou tested
Bert van Marwijk's patience today (as so often happens) - when he's in the
match he's capable of great things, but when he's not he tends to give away
the ball far too often. Van Marwijk refused to replace him and was rewarded
for his faith when Kalou put away a beauty of a volley in the
77th from a Van Persie pass. 4 minutes later, Australian international Brett Emerton
gave them the points and their first win of the season.
