Ajax beat Roda JC 4-2 last night after
fighting off a a spirited challenge from Roda JC. Sweden striker Zlatan
Ibrahimovicd for the Amsterdammers in the 16th minute of the game
after slamming home Wesley Sneijder's corner from close range. Just two
minutes later midfield star Rafael van der
Vaart made it 2-0, heading Andy van der Meyde's
cross into the top left corner from 16 meters. Ajax continued to surge forward and
in the 27th minute up and coming youngster Wesley Sneijder put his team three goals
into
the lead after curling in a free-kick from 20 meters. However, Ajax's
comfortable 3-0 lead began to shake when Roda's man of the match Sergio
reduced the gap to 3-2. Just one minute after Sneijders 3-0
Sergio picked up the ball on the edge of the penalty are, turned and drove it into the top left corner past
Lobont. The rocket shot was so hard it could only be detected on slow-motion
replays. In the second act Roda continued to battle despite being under pressure for long spells and
Sergio struck again 10 minutes from time, heading in Tom Soetaers' cross.
Ajax dismissed any hopes of a visitors' comeback two minutes later though
when Boukhari drove home the rebound from Richard Witschge's blocked shot.
