end of this coming season. However, with the likelihood of Pierre
van Hooijdonk leaving, the Rotterdammers are now taking Buffel's wishes
more seriously and are now prepared to offer him a vastly improved three

| Newcastle
close in on Brett Emerton |
19 Jun 2003
|
| Sir
Booby Robson's Newcastle United are reported to have agreed a deal with
Feyenoord for their Australian midfielder Brett Emerton. The reports
suggest that the €5.6 million Euros deal will be concluded next
month. The 24-year-old has been
subject to several transfer speculations the past two years but up till
now a coveted transfer to Premiership outfit has failed to materialise.
However, now that Feyenoord have lowered their asking price to
reduce the risk of losing Emerton for nothing when his contract runs out
next year, the chance of the overrated Australian leaving for England have
certainly increased. |
| Van
Hooijdonk suing Nottingham Forest |
19 Jun 2003
|
| Feyenoord
striker Pierre Van Hooijdonk, who has been linked with a return to
England with Premiership outfit Birmingham City, is suing his former club
Nottingham Forest for €910,000
Euros arising from his switch to Eredivisie side Vitesse according to the
club's website. Van Hooijdonk believes that he is entitled to the sum as because
he never signed the transfer agreement and therefore has rights to a
transfer fee as well as a loyalty bonus for helping Forest achive
promotion for the 1998-99 season. However Forest's financial director John
Pelling told the club's official website: "Transfer fees are a
private agreement between two clubs involved in the deal and no player is
ever entitled to a portion of a transfer fee - unless the clubs and player
formalise an agreement in writing at the time of the transfer This was not
the case with the transfer of van Hooijdonk to Vitesse That he should also
claim a loyalty bonus at the end of a season in which he had gone on
strike and made himself unavailable for first-team matches or training
beggars belief, and the club intends to vigorously defend this and all
claims by van Hooijdonk. The club intends a counter-claim based on the
damage the player inflicted on his own transfer value by taking strike
action and his inability to perform during his final season at the City
Ground." |

Feher or Glasgoq Rangers free agent and former Feyenoorder, Bert Konterman. |
| Van
Hooijdonk to quit Feyenoord |
14 Jun 2003
|
Feyenoord
striker Pierre van Hooijdonk's patience with the club has now run out and
the Dutch international has informed Feyenoord that he has no intention of
extending his contract, which expires in 12 months' time. Van Hooijdonk is
also demanding that Feyenoord allow him to leave during the close season
for a fee €1 million Euros. Although Premier League outfits Birmingham
City, Tottenham and Portsmouth and Turkish side Fenerbahce are keen to
sign the goal-getter, Van Hooijdonk had always stated that he would prefer
to stay in Rotterdam. However, Van Hooijdonk has now come back on that
decision saying, "My contract negotiations with Feyenoord are now
over"
Van Hooijdonk: "The
Premiership is what I want.Although I am 33, I scored 28 times last season
and the year before that I fired the goals which won the Uefa Cup. So I
can still do it at the top level. My contract negotiations with Feyenoord
are now over. I have only one
year remaining on my current deal and there is absolutely no question of
it being extended. It doesn't
matter what Feyenoord suggest, I won't listen. In return, I will tell them
that I will not accept being overpriced in the transfer market. I believe
that one million Euros would be fair - that is around £600,000. If they
won't accept my figure, then I will be very angry." |
| Van
Hooijdonk wants return to Premiership |
13 Jun 2003
|
| Birmingham,
Portsmouth and Spurs have been alerted after Feyenood striker Pierre van
Hooijdonk's announcement that he wants to return to the Premiership. It
was generally believed that Van Hooijdonk wanted to finish off his career
in Holland but with Feyenoord's unwillingness to offer
the Dutch international a two year extension and with the club also
demanding that the 33 year-old Dutchman receive a drop in salary, Van
Hooijdonk has now set his sights on a return to England. The
free-kick specialist has also stated that he is willing to keep his
personal demands to just a mere €120,000 Euros per month to seal a move
to England. Van Hooijdonk also stated that he will be angry if Feyenoord
demand more than €850,000 Euros transfer sum to pay off the one year
option that the club still have on him. |

Hooijdonk has often stated that his preference goes out to a two year
extension with the Rotterdammers but has of yet failed to reach an
agreement with the club who would like to see Van Hooijdonk accept a drop
in wages next year. Van
Hooijdonk, who has also attracted the attention of several Premier League
outfits and as well as Portugese and Spanish clubs, is currently on

| Arsenal
interested in Brett Emerton |
08
Jun 2003
|
Feyenoord midfielder Brett Emerton, who
has been seeking a move to the Premier League since the day he arrived in
Holland, has issued a 'come and get me' plea to Arsene Wenger
after hearing of Arsenal's surprise interest in him. It was widely believed
that Sir Bobby Robson's Newcastle United and Middlesbrough were the most
likely candidates to secure the Australian international but now Arsenal
have also joined the race for the 24-year-old. In an interview in the
English daily newspaper 'The Sun'Emerton said: "I've made no secret of
my desire to play in the Premiership. I've heard nothing concrete but, if
the stories about Arsenal being interested are true, I'd like nothing more.
It's flattering to be linked with a massive club like them. I
watch Arsenal a lot on TV and you have to admire the way Arsene Wenger has
got them playing."
Emerton also stated that his main priority was to move to a club that could
guarantee him a first team place. "I've
heard this type of thing before and nothing has happened, so I won't be
getting too carried away. Newcastle
have also been mentioned but the bottom line is I'm desperate to play in
England. It has been my dream for
as long as I can remember. I see how well players like Harry Kewell and Mark
Viduka have done with Leeds and I think 'Why can't I do the same'? The
Premiership suits my game. It's pacy, physical and it's all about attacking
football. I only want to go to a
club who will play me in my natural position as a midfielder. That's
where I believe I perform best. I'm also after regular first-team football
though, at a club like Arsenal, that's obviously not something that can be
guaranteed."
In spite of Emerton's belief that he can succeed in the Premier League, he
would do well to watch a few video's of his own performances !

coincides with a friendly
match at Northampton's Sixfields Stadium on August 2. Dundee
director Jim Connor said: "Feyenoord's offer is a big compliment to
club, but one we've had to decline. They'll just have to wait until we get
them in the UEFA Cup."

| Feyenoord
tell Newcastle to up their offer |
06
Jun 2003
|
Newcastle have been informed by
Feyenoord that they must increase their latest offer for Australian
international Brett Emerton if they are to succeed in luring the midfielder
to the Premier League.
Although Emerton's contract ends next
season the Rotterdammers are still demanding €7 million Euros for the
player whereas
Newcastle were hoping to buy Emerton for a cup-price €4.2 million Euros.
Emerton's agent Simon Konstantinidis has stated that both clubs are a long
way off of securing a deal.
Kostantinidis: "As I understand it the asking price of Feyenoord is
still too high and I'm not sure Newcastle are prepared to pay it. I
have not yet become involved in any talks with Newcastle so it's fair to say
that any deal is looking some way off. There is certainly no agreement
between the two clubs yet, as I understand things. There's
only 12 months of the player's contract to go and I don't think any club
would be prepared to pay the kind of money that Feyenoord are asking.
It was €11.2 million Euros last year and now, as I understand it, the
asking price is around €7 million Euros."

still keeping tabs on him, and that he will need a solid showing at this
month's Confederations Cup if the Dutch club are to sign him.

fail to land goalkeeper Babos |
05
Jun 2003
|
|
Feyenoord's attempts to reach an
agreement with UEFA Cup qualifiers NAC for their Hungarian goalkeeper Gabor
Babos have failed. Feyenoord were hoping to lure Babos away from NAC with a
player exchange but NAC are only interested in a cash deal. In
an interview in the Dutch daily newspaper 'BN De Stem' Babos's
agent Kees Ploegsma said: "The clubs could
not make a deal, Feyenoord only wanted Babos if they could trade him for a
couple of players Feyenoord didn't need anymore. NAC were not not interested
so it will not be this season."

want payment for internationals |
04
Jun 2003
|
|
Feyenoord have informed the Dutch FA (KNVB)
that they will not allow their players to play for the Dutch national team
unless the KNVB are willing to pay the players wages and insurance during
the period that they are with the 'Oranje' squad. Feyenoord insist
that there is a high risk of their stars picking up injuries on
international duty and with most national Football Associations not
have insurance companies, the clubs are often left to foot the bill.
Feyenoord have now refused a request
from the Dutch FA release Robin van Persie and Glenn Loovens for the
uner-21's team. Both players are now on tour with Feynoord in Japan and
South Korea.

| Van
Hooijdonk humiliated |
03
Jun 2003
|
Feyenoord striker Pierre van Hooijdonk,
who threw his shirt into (at) the Feyenoord stands after his club's 4-1 FA
Cup Final defeat at the hands of Urtecht, has stated that the gesture was
done out of pure frustration but does not necessarily mean that h e is
intending to turn his back on the club, Van Hooijdonk: "I threw my
shirt to the fans afterwards because I felt miserable, not that this was my
last match at Feyenoord. We lost 4-1 to Utrecht in the Amstel Cup final.
Again, alas, I have been proved right - Feyenoord need an injection of
quality. The difference between
winning and losing was too big to put the blame on a referee. This probably
was the easiest game of the season. Play
one good match and you end a bad season with a cup. But
instead of doing that I now have the biggest humiliation of my career at
Feyenoord."
FootballNL found Van Hooijonk's kamikaze action towards the end of the match
when he ploughed down a an Utrecht defender the biggest humiliation in his
career.

| Utrecht
winners of Dutch FA Cup final |
01
Jun 2003 |
Utrecht
gained a place in the UEFA Cup this evening after an impressive 4-1
victory over Feyenoord. Although Utrecht began well, as the
first half progressed Feyenoord stared to dominate and so it came as
somewhat of a surprise when Jean Paul de Jongd the score for Utrecht
with a 30 meter canon in the 39th minute of the game.. De Jong should have
been sent off five minutes earlier for a massive brawl with Australian
defender Brett Emerton, however the referee decided a yellow card was
enough.
Utrecht began the second act in a furious tempo and within four minutes
Yugoslavian striker Gluscevic increased Utrecht's lead to two goals with a
nice shot on the edge of the box and nine minutes later the Yugoslav was
once again on target with with a 20 meter blaster for the 3-0. After
Gluscevic's third goal Utrecht eased up the pressure, allowing Feyenoord
to stage an all or nothing late offensive. In the 71st minute Feyenoord
were rewarded for their efforts after their man of the match Kalou, netted
from 30 meters with a powerful shot. However, Feyenoord's new signing Dirk
Kuyt, playing his last match for Utrecht, was not intending to let
his new club deny him of his obligatory goal and bagged the last goal of
the evening, rounding off a snazzy Utrecht buildup from six meters. |

| Van
Hooijdonk unsatisfied with Feyenoord |
26 May 2003
|
Feyenoord's laxness concerning Pierre van
Hooijdonk's desire to renegotiate a new Feyenoord deal could well see the
Dutch international striker turn his back on the club. The club, who have a
one year option on Van Hooijdonk have continually put off the talks and seem
unwilling to listen to the club top-scorer's wishes regarding his future with
the club.
Van Hooijdonk "Of course
Feyenoord have the rights to make use of the one year option and I would also
prefer to stay in Rotterdam, that has always been my priority. But when I
asked if we could discuss the possibility of a two year contract instead of a
one year deal, Feyenoord gave an adamant "No." Even worse, Feyenoord
were not even prepared to listen to my wishes. That's why as far as I'm
concerned the door is now closed.
"I have the possibility of signing a two year deal with a foreign
club. and they have contacted my agent but have not yet contacted Feyenoord.
We also do not know how much Feyenoord, who rights to a transfer sum,
are demanding."
Birmingham City, Portsmouth and Tottenham Hotspur havey stated their
interest for Van Hooidonk and according to the latest rumours, Celta de Vigo
will make an attempt to lure the prolific striker to Spain if they qualify for
the Champions League.

| Middlesborough
target Emerton |
23 May 2003
|
Feyenoord's Australian midfielder Brett
Emerton, who saw a move to Premier League side Newcastle fall through last
August, has now been targeted by Middlesborough. Middlesborough will have
to be prepared to compete with Sir Bobby
Robson's Newcastle United who still have not given up hope of contracting the
robust midfielder. Emerton is aware of the fact that should he decide to opt for
Newcastle he can not bank on a first team place, whereas Middlesborough could guarantee
him a regular starting place week-in week-out.
Feyenoord, who refused Newcastle's offer of €11.2 million Euros last
summer, have now seen the offers drastically reduced to €5 million Euros due
to the turmoil in the transfer market.

magazine 'Voetbal International', Valencia scouts were present at Feyenoord's

| Espanyol
also interested in Van Hooijdonk |
21 May 2003
|
|
Although P'Air van Hooijdonk's agent
Rob Jansen has denied that there has been any contact with Tottenham
Hotspurs regarding a summer transfer of the prolific striker to the London
club, a spokesman for Jansen said: "Rob was in England but as a rule
we do not talk about transfer speculation until the deal is completed." A
spokesman for Tottenham also confirmed the reports saying that the club had
spoken to Jansen about Van Hooijdonk last Friday. Tottenham
will face competition for Van Hooijdonk from Harry Redknapp's newly-promoted
Portsmouth after the Pompey manager confirmed his club's interest and further
competition can be expected from Spanish outfit Espanyol, who have also just
announced that they would like to buy the €1 million Euros bargain striker.
Having already topped the scorers list in Holland, Scotland, England and
Portugal, a Spanish adventure would seem a fitting way to end his career.

club and so the midfielder will play his last match in Holland this Sunday when Excelsior

Feyenoord - PSV |

May 2003
|
High stakes at the top of the table today as Feyenoord
face PSV at home this afternoon
knowing that defeat will surely end the hopes of the coveted second place
whereas victory for PSV would all but guarantee them the Eredivisie title.
Feyenoord also go into the game knowing that that their last confrontation with
PSV last November ended in a 1-2 victory for the Rotterdammers, bringing PSV
their one and only defeat of the season. Feyenoord
will have to miss starlet Robin van Persie, who received a two-match ban for his red card against Utrecht.
Van Persie could have lodged an appeal which would have given him the rights to
play today but decided not to risk the chance of being handed out an even higher
penalty.
Van Persie "After deliberating with the coach, this
seems the smartest thing to do, I could have played against PSV when I went
into appeal, but the risk would be too high and I could get a higher suspension
by appealing, certainly with the Van Hooijdonk case in mind, then I
would risk playing the Cup final on 1 June."
Japanese wizard Shinji Ono will also miss the
game after having just recovered from a fever. Ono has been plagued with the
health problems all season, the result of an overfull program. Feyenoord
coach Van Marwijk: "His health has been ruined in the past two
years by the overloaded international schedule. He did not have any time to
rest. It is time that FIFA and UEFA adjusted their playing schedules together to
avoid this," said Feyenoord coach Bert van Marwijk.
Although PSV have only lost one game this season (the home clash against
Feyenoord) they could well face a second defeat this afternoon due to
their goalkeeping problems. First choice, Dutch international Ronald Waterreus is out for the rest of the season
after undergoing surgery and with second and third-choices on loan
elsewhere, PSV youngster Yves Lenaerts will have to face the lions.
PSV trainer Hiddink "I have confidence in that boy. He played
well against Excelsior, but Sunday is an other match. Our defensive players must
help him."

but it would be a job to get him. He was playing in the Uefa Cup final last
year."

Although Australian midfielder Brett Emerton
has had no official contact with Newcastle, the Feyenoord players has stated in
reply to rumours that he would relish the chance to join the Tyneside club. Sir
Bobby Robson's summer bid of €11.2 million was Rejected in August but with the
transfer market at an all time low, Newcastle could well sign the player for a
reduced Feyenoord rejected Newcastle's offer of Euros then,
but in the current financial climate it is believed the Barclaycard Premiership
club could get their man for around €11.2 million Euros. Emerton was reported
as saying "I haven't heard anything other than what has been said
before, that the club [Newcastle] have shown an interest in me. If
that's true then that's good news. Newcastle are a big club and I've made no
secret of my desire to play in the English Premiership. But
no talks have taken place at the moment. I'm still a Feyenoord player and I am
completely committed to helping the club achieve all their goals this season.

months and extend Feyenoord's club record of 11 consecutive wins to keep them on
track for the coveted second place. Feyenoord trainer Van Marwijk "We are
still in the race for Champions League-football, but now we should get back the
good shape we were in those months after the winter break."
RKC coach Jol is not expecting too
much this weekend from his team. "I
have a lot of good but inexperienced youngsters in my team. Some of them played
for the first time in the Amsterdam Arena and of course they make mistakes.
We can have this problem in every match,

Hooijdonk's ban quashed by Dutch FA |
10 May 2003 |
| Pierre
van Hooijdonk will be able to play for Feyenoord against high flying RKC
tomorrow after seeing a three-match ban imposed by the Dutch FA,
quashed. The
controversial 3 match ban was originally imposed for allegedly kicking
Ajax's Jelle van Damme in the Amstel Cup match between the teams last
month. However after examining video evidence the Dutch
FA (KNVB) disciplinary commission agreed that Van Hooijdonk had not
willingly made contact with Van Damme. After the sucessful appeal a Dutch
FA spokesman said "The commission of appeal agrees with Van
Hooijdonk that he only stepped on the foot of Van Damme and did not take
his leg back. He did not kick
the Ajax player. In the eyes of the commission the move of Van Hooijdonk
is not punishable." |

South Korean World Cup star Kim Nam-il,
who has been on trial with Feyenoord's sister club Excelsior since
January, is to return to his native homeland after failing to earn a contract
with Ere Divisie side and
will return to his former club Chunnam Dragons at the end of the Dutch football
season. Dragons general manager Park Kang-hoon expressed his
dissatisfaction with Feyenoord saying: "The result is disappointing
for us and for Kim as well, because that means Kim failed to impress
Feyenoord and Dutch fans. We will make efforts to bring
him back as early as possible even before his contract comes to an end.
You know, it is meaningless for Kim to play for a team that has wasted
him. If Kim gets another chance to
advance to the European football leagues, we are willing to let him go on
reasonable terms. But we won't release him again on an optional deal which
can hurt him seriously."

Persie to appeal against 4 match ban |
08 May 2003 |

Feyenoord forward Robin van Persie
is to appeal against the 4 match ban imposed by the Dutch FA (KNVB) for the red card he
received during Feyenoord's away match to Utrecht last weekend after a
clash with Football's Mr Theatrical, Stijn Vreven. Van Persie had hopd
that the appeal would mean that he would be able
to turn out for Feyenoord against RKC on Sunday. However a KNVB spokesman
stated that the Dutch FA are insisting that the ban takes effect
immediately due to the severity of the offence even though Stijn- Mr
Theatrical- Vreven has stated that it wasn't foul. "It wasn't a red card, or
even a yellow card offence, but simply a tough encounter between two
players and I happened to fall. It's an opinion I've expressed to the FA
and it's one I stand by!"

| Severe
bans for Ajax & Feyenoord players |
02 May 2003 |
A
number of severe bans have been imposed on Ajax and Feyenoord key players
for their involvement in the turbulent Dutch
FA Cup semi-final between the two clubs . Pierre van Hooijdonk, who
received a red card from referee Luinge, has been banned for 2 matches
plus one suspended, for allegedly kicking Ajax's Belgian defender Jelle
van Damme. After the match Van Damme stated that Van Hooijdonk hadn't
touched him but during the Dutch FA's (KNVB) disciplinary commission, Van
Damme confirmed Luinge's report.
Ajax will have to miss skipper Christian Chivu after the KNVB decided to
impose a 3 match on the Rumanian international for an aggravated action
against Asian star Song. Song declared before the commission that it was
impossible for him to avoid Chivu's arm movement.
Ajax's Van Damme and Feyenoord's Song's testimonies breaks a silent vow
under the players to not give damaging evidence against one another but
with both clubs separated by just one point for the coveted second place,
it raises the question of the club's have influenced their players in any
way.
The disciplinary commission have also more or less spelt out the end of
the season for Zlatan Ibrahomivich after converting the proposed 5
match-ban to one for 6 matches for his elbowing of Feyenoord's Gerard de
Nooijer.
All three players have four days in which to lodge an appeal. |

|
Feyenoord's Brazilian
midfielder Leonardo has accepted a four match ban from the Dutch FA (KNVB)
for allegedly kicking his opponent in Young Feyenoord's match against
Young RKC even though he still believes he is innocent of the offence. The
ban stipulates that he may not play for any of Feyenoord's teams until
their youth team has played four matches, which will entail Leonardo
missing Feyenoord's last matches of the season. The KNVB refused to
convert the ban into a four match ban for Feyenoord's first team knowing
that the player is still recovering from an injury and will not be fit in
time for these matches.

problems, then he will also demand some form of subsidy from the council.
Sparta are currently being helped by the council who have agreed to buy Sparta's
home ground, Feyenoord believe that the council must make a similar jesture
towards Feyenoord by giving the club compensation for the extra rent which
Feyenoord have to pay for use of their De Kuip stadium since it was renovated in
1994 which has now cost the club 20.5 million euros above the normal rental
price. Van den Herik said that the renovation costs should be attributed as an
investment in the stadium and not in the club.

much interest in the 'Japanese Wizard' that the club have shipped off more
than 100,000 no.14 shirts to Japan to try and satisfy demand. If
Feyenoord would be prepared to let Ono go remains to be seen. Ono has
proven to be key player this season and his on pitch value has now far

Mar 2003
|
Excelsior
receive big-brother Feyenoord tonight in an interesting Rotterdam derby.
Excelsior's squad is a combination of second rate players combined
with Feyenoord talents that are unable to secure a first team place with
the UEFA Cup holder but who will do their utmost this evening to impress,
hoping for a quick return to 'De Kuip'. Excelsior are forced to
miss 5 of their key players tonight. Four players are hampered by
injuries ( Michel Breuer, Civard Sprockel, Bart Fiegel and Dennis Jos) and
Leo Koswal is suspended for tonight's confrontation. Excelsior trainer Coster
has also seen his team drop to 15th place after a good run at the
beggining of the season and they are now just one place outside the relegation play-off
zone. "The only way we can turn around our poor run is by
working hard as a squad. With matches against Feyenoord and Ajax every point you get is
profit, but normally those teams are too strong. We must work hard in the coming weeks and make the team ready
for the more important matches against other relegation candidates like
Groningen and Zwolle."
Excelsior can find some encouragement in the fact that Feyeoord are also
faced with a number of injuries in their sqaud. Gerard de Nooijer
will have to miss tonighth's match after bruising ribs in Feyenoord's
3-1 Amstel Cup win over Vitesse forcing Patrick Paauwe to move up to
midfield.
Feyenoord trainer Bert van Marwijk stated that this was a real setback
for Feyenoord.

| Dutch
FA concerned about youth injuries |
12 Feb 2003
|
|
Dutch FA doctor Han Inklaar has
stated that he is very concerned about the number of young players suffering
from knee injuries. The Dutch FA (KNVB) has inventoried the injuries of
young players at 36 professional clubs. During the preparations for young
Holland's friendly match against South Korea, Inklaar is faced with nine
under 21 youth players with serious, long-term injuries including three very
serious knee injuries. 19 yeay old Johny Heitinga (Ajax) and 21 year old
Ruud
Knol (Vitesse, 21) have already been recuperating for nearly a year with knee
injuries and it is also expected that the knee injury from 19 year old
Vitesse players Nicky Hofs will probably also take a year to heal. With Louis Laros
and Mamadou Zongo, Vitesse are also faced with two over 21 players with
long-temr knee injuries Inktar is very concerned with the
increasing number of 13 and 14 year old players suffering from long term
injuries and has blamed a lack of funds at schools and cutbacks in
physiotherapy costs at clubs as the foremost reasons for the increase
in injuries. Due to a decrease in physical exercise lessons at school youth
players are lacking condition. Experienced older players are being
disposed of and are more often than not replaced with cheaper, younger
players, who are not quite up to the weekly battles. The Dutch FA also
believes that new designs in football-boots and training shoes could also
explain the high rise in the number of injuries over the fast past few years.
Vitesse technical director Jan Streuer said: "I used to be
football-boot retailer and I know how exactly how that works. Every year a
new boot is designed but if that means a better design remains to be seen. I
still think that the old six stud Adidas boots are the best."
