| Chelsea
join queue for Roy Makaay |
30
Jun 2003 |
Deportivo
La Coruna president Augusto Caesar Lendoiro has confirmed that his club
have three offers from three different clubs for their golden boot boy,
Roy Makaay. It was generally known that German Bundesliga outfit Bayern
Munchen were planning to make a serious attempt to lure Makaay to the club
and Manchester United had also already been linked with the Dutch
international. However, Deportivo have also announced that Chelsea
has become the third contender to officially enquire for the asking price
for the prolific striker.
Lendoiro: "Depor has on the table three very important offers from
European clubs for the forward Roy Makaay. But
what is clear is that if they want a 'crack', they must pay for him." |
| Makaay
speaks fondly of Deportivo |
29
Jun 2003 |
| Although
Dutch international striker Roy Makaay intends leaving Deportivo La
Coruna this summer, probably for Bayern Munchen, the player insists
that his love for Deportivo has not diminished. Despite
all the transfer speculations surrounding Makaay the European top
scorer has still not ruled out that he will remain with the Spanish
outfit, although he does admit to having long thoughts about moving to
another club. In an interview in the Spanish daily sports newspaper AS
Makaay said: "There are
some things in the pipeline that are more truth than others, but I do not
want to continue speaking on that," revealed Makaay. I
already said what had to say. I continue being very respectful of Depor.
In fact, I am sure that a possible
goodbye would not diminish what I have obtained this season. My
decision did not arrive in the space of a day - I thought a long time
about it. From now on, it is
important to fulfill my word. The truth is that everybody in the city
treats to me phenomenally, from the very first year, when I had a great
season, I have felt very wanted here. I
was always very sincere, although sometimes they did say to me that it was
not the case, and I continue thinking about fulfilling my word of not
renewing my contract. "It is clear that I have been given an
international jump because the Gold Boot awards give much prestige. I have
spent four years at Depor, in which I have scored 20 goals a season.
Those numbers are very good for any
forward, so it has not been bad." |
| Kluivert
may leave Barca for bargain price |
29
Jun 2003 |
Barcelona
vice-president Sandro Rosell has confirmed that the club are prepared to
let Dutch international striker Patrick Kluivert leave the club for a
mere €2.1 million Euros. Although Barcelona's new trainer Frank
Rijkaard is fully aware of Kluivert's potential after having played with
the prolific striker at Ajax, it would seem that Rijkaard has little
influential power at present and must follow the line set out by
Barcelona's previos management.
On BBC's Sport online Sandro Rosell said: "If an offer of €2.1
million Euro is made he can leave the club. This is in line with what was
agreed by the previous Barcelona management. We
obviously think this is strange, but there is nothing we can do about it.
Whether Manchester United or Arsenal
are interested in buying him is something you would have to ask them
about." |
| Valencia
offer for Roy Makaay |
28
Jun 2003 |
| Spanish
outfit Valencia have set their sights on Deportivo La Coruna's European
golden boot boy Roy Makaay and are reported to have alreadyd talks
with Deportivo for the Dutch international. Valencia
are also reported to be willing to offer €9 million Euros plus Kily Gonzalez
and another un-named player for Makaay. Deportivo could well be forced to sell
Makaay as the club are in urgent need of €7 million Euros that they
still owe Primera Liga rivals Espanyol for the transfer of midfielder Sergio
two seasons ago. Deportivo are concerned that they may well have to return
Sergio to Espanyol if they do not resolve the debt soon and now look
likely to be forced into saying farewell to Makaay. |
| Bayern
Munchen offer for Roy Makaay |
28
Jun 2003 |
Bayern
Munchen have confirmed that the club have made a €15 million Euros
offer for Dutch international striker Roy Makaay. The club's
vice-chairman, legendary midfielder Karl Hein Rummenigge stated in an
interview in the Spanish media that the Bundesliga champions made their
offer to Makaay's current club Deportivo two days after the conclusion of
the Spanish competition.
Rumminigge: "We have made
contact with Deportivo to hand over a firm offer for Roy Makaay and we are
now expecting an answer,. It now depends on what Deportivo will do, but
Makaay wants to come to us and play for Bayern. We have made a financial
offering which is inside our availability and capacity and it now depends
on Deportivo to see if we can do business."
Although the player has often stated that he would prefer a move to the
English Premier League, his agent agent Rob Jansen has admitted Makaay
would now welcome a move to Bayern Munchen. |
| Kluivert
to hold crunch talks with Barcelona |
28
Jun 2003 |
| Dutch
international striker Patrick Kluivert is set to hold crunch talks with
Barcleona today to hear if the prolific striker is prepared to accept the
Catalan club's proposed wage cut. Kluivert is furious that
Barcelona expect him to accept a drop in salary and is now waving
Manchester United and Arsenal offers to warn Barca that he will leave the club
if the showdown talks do not bear any fruitful results. An
angry Kluivert added, "This isn't a bluff. It seems I am more valued
in England than at Barcelona. Sooner or later, I'm going to end up playing
in the Premiership. They have been after me for a while. I've put up with
a lot at Barca. But this could be the final straw." |
| Hasselbaink
remains with Chelsea |
28
Jun 2003 |
According
to Dutch international striker Jerrel Hasselbaink's agent Humphrey Nijman,
the Chelsea striker will not be demonstrating his goal-scoring skills with
any other club and will start the new season at Stamford Bridge. Humphrey
rubbished reports suggesting that the prolific striker was informed that
he could leave the club on a free transfer.
Nijman: "Chelsea never
told us that Jimmy could leave for free, I don't know where that story
came from. "Trevor Birch
(Chelsea chief executive) phoned me to ask if Jimmy had said something but
Jimmy hadn't even spoken to the press, it was just gossip. We've
had no interest from any other clubs and Jimmy's happy where he is right
now." |
| Kluivert
keen on Arsenal move |
27
Jun 2003 |
Despite
his friend Frank Rijkaard being appointed as Barcelona's new trainer,
Dutch international striker Patrick Kluivert is threatening to quit
Barcelona - and join Arsenal.
Kluivert is livid that Barcelona are still demanding that he take a 30 per
cent wage cut and has now warned the Catalan club:
"If Barca amend my contract and reduce my salary, it would be normal
to leave. I'm a professional and when something is signed you have to
fulfil it." Kluivert added that he has offers from Manchester United
to come and play alongside of Ruud van Nistelrooy and from Dennis
Bergkamp's Arsenal, who Kluivert believes would suit his style of play.
Kluivert "I've got offers but the most important ones are from
Arsenal and Manchester United. United
have Ruud van Nistelrooy but I would be more successful at Arsenal because
of the way they play. Arsene
Wenger's football is more European. Dennis Bergkamp says his emphasis on
attack means he is like a Dutch coach in the best days of the national
team. And London is a city I love - it would be good for my family." |
| Numan

26
Jun 2003 |
Former

Korevaar stated that Rangers would be offering the the 33-year-old player
a short-term contrac, however Numan believes the chances of a return to
Ibrox Park is highly remote.
Numan: "The chances of me playing for Rangers again are very small. I
had five fantastic years playing for Rangers and I will never forget my
time with them. I will always treasure them. But the cup final was my last
game. I don't think they are going to offer me a new deal." |

set to make a temporary return to Rangers and will probably be
signing a six months deal with the Scottish Premier league side. In an
interview in the English daily newspaper 'Daily Record' Numan's agent Joop
Jorevaar explained the ex-Dutch internationals decision.
"At first Arthur said no to Rangers but it is now possible he will go
back. Hopefully he can sign for
six months before fulfilling his dream of playing in America. The
deal would be beneficial to both parties as Arthur's experience would be
big help to Rangers in the Champions League. I'm
waiting to hear back from Rangers but I'm hopeful something can be sorted
next week." |
| Clubs
line up for goalkeeper Ed de Goey |
24
Jun 2003 |
Former
Dutch international goalkeeper Ed de Goey who has been informed that there
is no more room for him in Chelsea's squad next term has been targeted by
a string of clubs. The 36-year-old veterean is available on a free
transfer which has alarmed Premier League sides Birmingham City and Wolverhampton Wanderers
as well as Turkish outfit Fenerbahce, who have already held talks with De
Goey's agent Ger Langendijk.
Lagendijk: "It is correct, we are in talks with both clubs (Fener and The Blues).
There has been no concrete offer
yet, I would say at the moment they are informal discussions. Also, the promoted English side Wolverhampton Wanderers have an interest in De
Goey. But that interest comes via a commissioned agent. That club has not yet made contact with me
directly."
Birmingham, who have just failed in their attempts to lure Arsenal's
veteran goalkeeper David Seaman to the club believe that De Goey`s profile

| Rijkaard
& Ten Cate to rule at Barcelona |
23
Jun 2003 |
Barcelona
have officially announced that ex-Dutch international Frank Rijkaard has
signed a four-year deal to become their new trainer. Speculations of
Rijkaard's appointment first began after the Catalan club announced at a
press confereance last Sunday that interim trainer Antic would not be
offered a new contract extension.
The former Ajax and AC Milan vendetta will not be taking a vast coaching experience
with him, having only held two coaching positions up till now. Rijkaard's
first trainers job was for none less than the Dutch national team during
the European Championship 2000 that were jointly held in Belgian and The
Netherlands. Rijkaard resigned as Holland's national coach after the team
were knocked out of the event by Italy in the semi-finals. After a 0-0
score, Holland lost the game in the penalty shoot-out.
Rijkaard's second coaching job was for Eredivisie strugglers Sparta, who
were relegated during Rijkaard's first term causing Rijkaard to hand in
his notice.
Although the former Dutch international has little experience, he does
have the ability to bring players together and create a good atmosphere
within a team. If that's enough for Barcelona to become a major force
once again we will just have to wait and see.
Rijkaard's new right hand man is NAC trainer Henk ten Cate and has a wealth of
experience with Heracles,
Go Ahead Eagles, Sparta, Vitesse, KFC Uerdingen en MTK Boedapest and has
often booked success with these clubs. The 48-year-old steered NAC to a
European place for next season but decided to resign after
Roelant Oltmans en Tem Nederlof were forced to step down due to the club's
financial crisis. Ten Cate stated that a dream had come true. |

happens in the summer. If there
is something interesting I hope that the club and I can find a good

international team-mate Clarence Seedorf. Stam
joined Lazio from Manchester United in August 2001 after being forced to
leave the Premier League due to the publication of his biography in which
he was not very flattering towards Untied boss Sir Alex Ferguson.
Since his arrival at Lazio, Stam has been plagued by the club's inadequacy
to pay his wages and has become furious at the club's plans to pay a
percentage of wages with cash, and make up the rest with shares in the
club.
Stam is now taking the club to court and if the Italian FA should decide
that Lazio have defaulted in paying their players, then Stam would
be allowed to leave on a free transfer.

considering a bid of €13 million Euros for the Dutchman to improve the strength in depth of
their defence

had been sold but fuelled the speculations by saying:
"These reports are rumours without any backing whatsoever.
What is sure is that Lazio are in dire need of cash, and the quickest way
to get out of their precarious financial situation is by selling their top
stars, Jaap Stam included. |

his wages next season and so who knows, maybe next year United will be
playing with Van Nistelrooy, Kluivert and Davids. |

future in the hands of Deportivo |
13 Jun 2003
|
| European
Golden Boot boy Roy Makaay has stated that his future will be decided by
Deportivo La Coruna at the end of the season. The
Dutch international striker has been targeted by several clubs including
Premier League giants Manchester United and German giants Bayern Munich .
Makaay: "What I have to say is what I have already said.
First that there has to be an offer on
the table and then, the clubs must agree. I
know that Bayern Munich are interested in my services. My future is in the
hands of Depor since I have two years left of my contract." |
| Lazio
president not prepared to let Stam go |
12 Jun 2003
|
| Lazio
Roma's president Ugo Longo has insisted that Dutch international defender
Jaap Stam must see out his contract at the Serie A club. In an interview
on Italian local radio station 'Radio Radio' Longo denied Stam's claim
that he was entitled to move on because he had not received all his pay
from the club and that Lazio were trying to pay a part of his wages in
club-shares. Longo "Stam is a Lazio player. For
him to be allowed to leave Lazio would require the club to be in agreement
and at the moment that desire is not there. Stam
is linked with us for another two years and he has been paid
regularly." |
| Barcelona
to use Kluivert in Beckham deal |
12 Jun 2003
|
| According
to reports in the English daily newspaper 'The Evening Standard'
Manchester United could land Patrick Kluivert as part of David Beckham's
move to Barcelona. The paper also stated that Barcelona president
candidate John Laporta has agreed that if he is chosen this weekend then
he will not to stand in United's way in their bid to capture Paris Saint
Germain's Brazilian star, Ronaldinho. As part of the Beckham's move
Laporta has agreed to sell Kluivert, who is desperately seeking a move to
United where he intends to make
history with compatriot Ruud van Nistelrooy as the worlds best striking
partnership. |

target Jordi Cruijff |
12 Jun 2003
|
Spanish
outfit Espanyol are targeting Alaves striker Jordi Cruyff. The
ex-Dutch international is forced to leave his present club Alaves, now
that the club has relegated and are unable to fund the players high wages
in the Segunda Liga.
Free agent Cruijff will not cost Espanyol any money as the players is
available on a free transfer. Espanyol officials are planning to hold
talks with 'The son of' as early as this week about a summer switch. |
| Rovira
wants Van Nistelrooy for Barcelona |
11 Jun 2003
|
Although
Sir Alex Ferguson has insisted that Dutch international striker Ruud van
Nistelrooy is not for sale, Barcelona president's candidate
Rovira has once again insisted at a
press conference that if he is chosen this Sunday then he will bring Ruud
van Nistelrooy to the club> Rovira: "If I am successful (on the
15th), on the 16th, we will have the best number nine in the world. That
is none other than Ruud van Nistelrooy. We
have still to reach an agreement over figures with Manchester United, but
the player is delighted to come,"
With Rovira's main rival for the presidency Joan Laporta, managing
to clinch a deal with Manchester United for David Beckham should he gain
control, it looks as if this weekend's elections will be more about
players then presidents. |
| Spanish
side Alaves release Jordi Crujff |
11 Jun 2003
|
Spanish
outfit Alaves, who have just been relegated from the Spanish Primera
Liga, have announced that they will be releasing nine players this
summer in order to survive the financial malaise.
One of the most prominent names to be released is that of Dutch winger
Jordi Cruyff. The club insist that they can no longer afford former
Manchester United star's salary. Alaves president Gonzalo Anton also
stated that players who wished to remain with the club would be facing
massive pay cuts, or told to move on. "They
will see their salaries reduced by 70 percent, if not it will be difficult
for them to stay." |
| Mols
offered one year Rangers extension |
09
Jun 2003 |
Rangers
boss Alex McLeish has confirmed that he wants Dutch striker Michael Mols
to stay at Ibrox next term. Mols,
who has
attracted the attention of Leicester City, has been
offered a new one-year contract extension. The ex-Utrecht hero has been in
form since recovering from a long-term injury, scoring important goals to
help Ranger lift the treble. Mols has asked the club to allow him a few
days to deliberate the club's offer.
Rangers Boss McLeish said: "He has been made an offer and he is
taking a break with his family to mull that over. I think he has had
one or two other offers so Michael will either accept or he won't and
whatever the decision, we will move on. Michael struggled a year ago and I
was very honest with him. I said 'Michael, I need to see you back to near
your best, in your first season for Rangers'. And I think in the last half
of the season, or maybe further back than that, he played really well. He
scored 14 goals and it was great to see something like the Michael Mols of
old." |

Jun 2003
|
Despite helping Chelsea into the Champions
League places this season, Dutch international Jimmy Floyd
Hasselbaink says he has been told by the club that he can leave Stamford
Bridge.
Hasselbaink says Chelsea chairman Ken Bates cannot afford his wages - which
are estimated at €105,000 Euros a week.
The 31 year-old striker who has been targeted by Spanish outfit Valencia
said in an interview in the English daily newspaper 'News of the
World', "Chelsea have told me I'm expensive because of my wages.
They said if I can find another club, then I can leave.
However, Hasselbaink still hasn't ruled out that he can avoid being a summer
sale: "But they told me that
last year as well - and I'm still here. I want to have a top season with
Chelsea next year. This season
was disappointing personally but now I want to get fully fit again and show
everyone what I can do."

Several newspapers have reported that
Liverpool are targeting AC Milan midfielder Clarence Seedorf for a summer
signing. The Dutch international,
who recently made history by becoming the first player to lift the Champions
League with three different clubs after winning the trophy at Old Trafford
last month, is prepared to swap the San Siro for Anfield Road according to

Bayern Munich have stated that they are
prepared to offer €14 million Euros to Deportivo La Coruna for their
golden boot striker Roy Makaay. The Dutch international reserve
striker is Bayern's No1 priority target this summer, in
spite of his earlier remarks that he would prefer to move to the Premier
League as opposed to the German Bundes Liga. Bayern have stated that as
soon as the Spanish competitions has ended the club will recommence
negotiations. Bayern
vice-chairman, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge: "The negotiations are suspended.
We hope that after La Liga finishes in two weeks to continue them."

| Kluivert
keen for Beckham to join Barcelona |
08
Jun 2003
|
|
Patrick Kluivert
insists that Manchester United ace David Beckham could be become as famous
as Dutch Legend Johan Cruijff if he moves to Barcelona.
Kluivert says that after talking with his strike partner Ruud van Nistelrooy
he has become convinced that he would be the perfect team-mate. Kluivert
said: "Van Nistelrooy always speaks very highly of Beckham. He says he
has such a good understanding with him, he thinks he's a Dutchman. Cruyff
and Ronald Koeman are legends at Barcelona and I'm sure if Beckham comes he
will take his place among the band of legends this club has produced.
I'm a centre-forward and if I get good
service it's easier for me to score. So, in that respect, I would come out a
winner if he signs. In my book, he's one of the best free-kick takers and
crossers of the ball in the world. Ruudy
says 30 per cent of United's success is down to Beckham. But
even if there are lots of names at the club, Barca have to play as a unit.
Individuals don't solve everything and
Ruud has told me Beckham really sacrifices himself for the team. He
would pull us along and that would be very good for us. Beckham is the sort
of player who would be welcome anywhere."

| Stam
only interested in Italian club |
08
Jun 2003
|
|
The Premier League clubs that are
targeting Dutch international defender Jaap Stam can better turn their
attentions elsewhere now that the Lazio player has insisted that a return to
the Premier League is out of the question. Even a move to Spain is unlikely
to materialise after the former Manchester United centre-half said yesterday
that his family was settled in Italy and that he would prefer to remain in
the Serie A. Arsenal boss Arsene
Wenger is believed to have made initial enquiries about the possibility of
bringing Stam back to England but has seen his advances thwarted. Whoever
manages to sign the robust defender, one thing is for sure, Stam is
definitely quitting Rome this summer:

signs for Atletico Madrid |
06
Jun 2003

Dutch international Kiki Musampa's
transfer to Spanish outfit Atlético Madrid has finally been completed after
penning a 5-year deal. The 25-year-old midfielder left Ajax in 1997 for
French side Girondins Bordeaux. Two years later he swapped Bordeaux for
Malaga, where, for the first two years he occupied the reserve bench. Last
year Musumpa was given a chance in Malaga's squad as left-midfielder and
since then has secured a first team place.

Scottish Premier League champions
Glasgow Rangers have been linked with a move for AC Milan's Brazilian
striker, Rivaldo. The Rangers
believe that their ambitious plan to lure the Brazilian, who is currently
transfer free after falling out with AC Milan's management, could well
succeed if his former Barcelona team-mate Ronald de Boer can convince the
Brazilian wizard to move to Scotland and help the club in next season's
Champions League adventure.

Premiership clubs interested in Stam |
06
Jun 2003
|
Three The
Dutchman may leave Lazio for €5.6 million Euros which has alerted bargain
hunters Newcastle United, Liverpool and Arsenal who are now all seeking
talks with the defender's representatives. Lazio
chief Luca Baraldi has stated that Stam has not been chained to Lazio
saying: "If the player has offers to leave, he can do so because Lazio
is not a prison." Although Italial Serie A rivals Juventus and AC Milan
are favourites to land Stam, the Premiership trio will try their best during
the summer transfer window to bring the ex-Manchester United defender back
to England.
Whoever manages to sign the robust defender, one thing is for sure, Stam is definitely quitting Rome this
summer: Stam said: "The latest offer from the club is totally
unacceptable - and unless something changes, I will definitely not be a
Lazio player next season. Firstly, they offered to pay my outstanding salary in club shares.
Secondly, they want all the squad to agree to a 45 per cent cut in their
contract terms for next season. In my view, this offer is laughable. I understand that the club is
in a difficult position but I cannot go to the supermarket and buy groceries
for my family with shares. I cannot expect people to accept payment for goods with Lazio
certificates. I expected Lazio to honour the contract that both parties agreed to
two years ago. It is as simple as that."

the Guardian reported that Kluivert's availability was also discussed.

offer Van Bronckhorst to Leeds |
04
Jun 2003

Arsenal
trainer Arsene Wenger has offered Giovanni van Bronckhorst and Francis
Jeffers to Leeds in a bid to capture their striker, Harry Kewell.
Wenger's earlier offer of a swap for Ray Parlour plus €6.6
million Euros was turned down by Leeds and now Wenger is hoping to secure
Kewell by offering a wider choice.
Van Bronckhorst - who cost Arsenal €12
million Euros from Rangers two years ago, has never been able to
secure a first team place with Arsenal and it would seem somewhat doubtful
if Leeds manager Reid would keen on an Arsenal failure.

Lazio sports director Luca Baraldi has
confirmed that the club have not been able to convince Dutch international
defender Jaap Stam to stay with the club for next season and believes that
there is only a 50 percent chance of being able to retain the ex-Manchester
United defender. Baraldi said:
"Stankovic will remain with us for 100 percent. We are talking about
renewing his contract, but he is a serious boy, a true professional. "As
far as Stam goes, instead, there is a 50 per cent possibility that he will
be with us next season. Our
objective is to keep him. He is an irreplaceable player and we do not want
to sell him, particularly in the current market."

According to the English daily newspaper
the Evening Gazette, Middles borough boss Steve McClaren is planning to lure
Barcelona star Marc Overmars to the club. The
30 year-old who cost Barcelona € 35 million Euros when he joined from
Arsenal in July 2000 is rated very highly by McClaren who has also
vented he wants to sign more than one quality players, saying: "I

looking for high-quality players and players right across the midfield.
I am looking to bring in more than one

City target Michael Mols |

Jun 2003

If Rangers intend holding onto
Dutchman Michael Mols then they will have to act quick as Premier
League outfit Leicester City are reported to be closing in on Rangers
striker.
Mols is out of contract this summer and Rangers have been reluctant to
renegotiate a new contract extension in spite of the good form he has shown
since recovering from a long-term injury. His agent is now believed to have
held talks with Leicester City's officials about a summer switch. Mols
has always stressed that he would like to play in the Premier League before
he finally retires and in fact almost moved to the Premiership in August
with Sunderland.

Italian Serie A outfits, will now be staying in Spain after agreeing terms

Malaga have also agreed that Musampa will receive 15 per cent of the

ultimatum for Davids |
02
Jun 2003
|
Juventus have given Dutch international
bull-terrier Edgar Davids the ultimatum that he must sign a new deal in the
next few weeks or he will be put up for sale. Davids has just one more year
remaining on his contract, after which he may leave the club transfer
free. Davids has insisted that he will only pen a new contract
with the club if his salary is increased. However Juventus are adamant that
they are not prepared to fork out even higher wages for the Dutch star and
are now prepared to listen to offers. The impasse has now reached it's
climax and the possibility exists that Davids may well of played his last
match for Juventus in last week's lost Champions League final against AC
Milan.
With Premier League outfits Arsenal and Manchester United both keen to bring
the Dutchman to the Premier League, Davids is unlikely to accept a new
contract on reduced terms.

| Mols
hopes to stay on with Rangers |
02
Jun 2003
|
Dutch striker Michael Mols, whose
contract with Rangers runs out in a couple of weeks, has admitted that
he hopes to stay on at Ibrox, after Rangers sealed a domestic treble with a
1-0 victory over Dundee.
After being sidelined for nearly
two years with an Knee injury, the striker has come back this term with an impressive
comeback. In an interview on BBC Sport Website Numan said : "Everything
is still possible. I don't know what I want yet, other than to go on holiday
and not think about football for a couple of weeks. Then I'll have a chat
with my agent to see what the options are, and then I'll make a
decision."
"At the beginning of the season, it looked like I was on my way out and
now I've lifted three trophies. No-one would have expected that. My
first aim was to get into the team and after that, you hope to be winning
trophies when you play for Rangers. The turning point for me was the
home game against Kilmarnock when we won 6-1 and I started for the first
time. Since then, it's gone well."

it was nice to be leaving the club winning the treble.
Numan: "I started with the Treble when I came in '98 and I'm leaving

"I'm going to go on holiday and after that I'm going to make a decision
on what I want to do."

Madrid yesterday are back in the title race. Although Makaay's team were
forced to play most of the match with just 10 men after Nourredine Naybet
was sent-off after in the 5th minute, Deportivo were able to produce an
entertaining game, with goals from Enrique
Romero, Roy Makaay and Juan Valeron. Deportivo trainer Javier Irureta was
more than pleased with his side's performance when saying: "All
my players deserve ten out of ten. We showed great concentration and
character not to give up on the title chase. We could have fallen in a heap,
but playing at home is always an advantage and luck has smiled on us."
Makaay's goal places firmly on top of the European Golden Boot award.

01
Jun 2003

|
Ruud van Nistelrooy's agent Roger Linse
has said that there is no way Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson will
let his star striker to join Spanish giants Barcelona. Linse did however
confirm Barcelona's interest in the Dutch international and also stated that
both he and Van Nostelrooy were inmpressed with his future plans for the
club. Linse: "A month ago, with my good friend Sergi Bruguera, we met
the candidate Jordi Majo - who was first to show an interest in van
Nistelrooy. They all had great
ideas, I like the opinions of Martinez Rovira, because at heart he wants the
best for the club, but as I always said it does not depend on us if van
Nistelrooy goes to Barca. I have spoken with Alex Ferguson and he said to me
that he had found out about Barca's interest in Ruud, and he was adamant. He
told me we are not going to negotiate with any club because he is one of the
most important players in our squad. He has three years on his contract and
Ruud is happy in Manchester, plus he still thanks the club for trusting him
after his serious injury."

Manchester United's prolific Dutch
international Ruud van Nistelrooy has told Barcelona that he will only be
prepared to move to the club if he is guaranteed to play alongside Patrick
Kluivert. On of Barcelona's main
contenders in the club's elections next month Josep Martinez-Rovira has once
again insisted that Van Nistelrooy is interested in coming to the Nou Campis
and has already inquired by United chief executive Peter Kenyon about Van
Nistelrooy. Martinez-Rovira said:
"As president I will copy Real Madrid and sign the greatest player in
the world each summer for the next three years - and I pray Ruud will be the
first one. "I was due to
meet Peter Kenyon two weeks ago when he was in Barcelona but he had personal
difficulties in England and had to return unexpectedly. "We
have stayed in touch by telephone and I have therefore been free to speak to
Ruud's agent. Ruud is very interested in leading our project to make
Barcelona great again."

| Barcelona
offer €56 million for Van the Man |
30 May 2003
|
|
While Barcelona ace Patrick Kluivert has
been asked to accept a wage cut the Spanish outfit's financial situation
would not seem as precarious as one has been made to believe now that the
club are offering €56 million Euros for Manchester United's Dutch
international striker Ruud van Nistelrooy. The prolific striker has
always maintained that he would like to play for United for the rest of his
career but has now been quoted as saying that he would like to help
Barcelona get back on the rails. It would also be very short sighted
of Barcelona to drop Kluivert's wages at this moment in time, for if they
intend luring Van the Man to Nou Camp then they should double Kluivert's
wages to ensure they hold onto what could be a very lucrative golden tandem.

Boer believes Amoruso void can be filled |
30 May 2003

Dutch international midfielder
Ronald de Boer has said that he is not worried that Rangers will not be able to fill the
gap left by
Lorenzo Amoruso who looks set to move to Blackburn Rovers this summer and
believes that the void can easily be filled by
Dundee defender Zura Khizanishvili who has been strongly linked with the
Rangers.
De Boer "It would be a big loss because Lorenzo is a very good
defender with experience and we would miss that. But the club has to carry on and we will find another player to fill
his place. I haven't seen all
of Khizanishvili games but he has had a great season. He is a young lad so he is a great prospect and a guy who wants to
learn so I think he would be a great asset.''

Clarence Seedorf wrote history last night
after becoming the first man to win the European Cup with three different
clubs.
The Dutch international, who missed his spot-shot in the 3-2 penalty shoot-out
after the all Italian final ended in a predictable 0-0, was completely
overwhelmed and very emotional in a post-match interview. With tears in his
eyes the midfielder said: "I don't have any words, I've never been so
happy. Incredible, it's just
incredible. During the whole season in the Champions League we have done a
fantastic job. The atmosphere was
great in a great stadium. It was a great game played by two great teams but I
believe Milan deserved to win as we had the best chances." Seedorf
won the European Cup as a teenager with Ajax against Milan in 1995 before
going on to lift the trophy again with Real Madrid in 1998 at the
expense of last night's opponent, Juventus before last night's third
triumph.

Nistelrooy wants Kluivert to join United |

While
Barcelona are claiming that they are trying to lure Ruud van Nistelrooy to the
club, Barcelona striker Patrick Kluivert has revealed that Ruud van
Nistelrooy is trying to lure him to Manchester United next season. In a report
in the English daily newspaper 'The Sun' Kluivert said: "If it had been
down to Ruud, I would have signed for United a long time ago. I have had
various calls from Ruud, at least three. We've also chatted when we've been
together with the Holland team. The first time he called was after Christmas.
I don't know whether he's joking or not but he's told me lots of times that,
sooner or later, I'll end up playing for United. He makes a point of telling
me how good the atmosphere there is and that the fans are closer to the
players than in Italy or in Spain. He's
really happy to be playing in England. He's
told me the way I play is ideally suited to English football and although I'm
happy in Spain, things haven't gone at all well this season. I
already know Dutch, Italian and Spanish football and the English version is
one of the few varieties I don't. At some stage I think I will play for a big
Premiership club."

| Makaay
vents disappointment at title slip |
28 May 2003
|
Dutch international striker Roy Makaay has
vented his disappointment that Deportivo La Coruna have let the title slip out
of their hands after two consecutive defeats against Valencia and Celta Vigo,
leaving them six points behind Sander Westerveld's
Real Sociedad. Makaay believes that Deportivo must now set their sights
on the third place which will at least give the clubs rights to play in the
Champions League qualification rounds next season. Makaay: "In principle,
I think we are now going to have to play in the qualifying rounds of the
Champions League. We have a big
points disadvantage with respect to Real Sociedad and Real Madrid. I
don't think we can catch them now, but we have to keep trying until the end."
"There is disappointment when you lose your chance to win the title in
just two games, but it's normal to feel like that. We
knew the fixture calendar was difficult and we failed."
Makaay added that he would now be
supporting fellow compatriot Sander Westerveld's Real
Sociedad in their fight with Real Madrid for the title.

We have proved this season we can take on the best and win. We
have beaten Juventus twice and won against Real Madrid and Deportivo La

that last step and improve a little bit more. The hardest bit is to go all

26 May 2003
|
Rangers were crowned Scottish Champions
yesterday for the 50th time after one of the most exciting end's to the league
championship's history.
With both teams level on points and just one separating the two clubs a flurry
of goals was needed by both outfits to secure the title. Celtic won there away
game to Kilmarnock by 4-0, leaving Rangers the task of scoring minimal 3 goals
against Dunfermaline. Rangers got off to a good start after Dutchman Michael
Mols netted in the third minute. However, Dunfermline equalised seven
minutes later. With just a quarter of an hour gone Rangers had restore their
advantage through Claudio Caniggia and just before the break ex-Ajax striker
Shota Arveladze netted for the 3-1. In the second half Dutch international
Ronald De Boer increased the lead to three goals with a 64th minute shot. Just
three minutes later Steven Thompson made it 5-1 and in the dying seconds of
the match Rangers sealed the title with a Mikael Arteta penalty.

| 10
clubs target Patrick Kluivert |
26 May 2003
|
|
Patrick Kluivert's agent Sigi Lens has
waved five Premiership offers that he has for his client in front of
Barcelona's nose to warn the club that they cannot think to lightly about
dropping the Dutch international's wages. Lens met with Barcelona chief Javier
Perez last week and informed him that he had held talks with four Italian
outfits plus arch rivals Real Madrid. Arsenal,
Manchester United, Liverpool and Newcastle have all been linked with a summer
swoop for the striker and with now 10 clubs in total interested in capturing
the Dutchman it would seem highly unlikely that Barca will succeed in
resigning Kluivert on reduced terms - lowering his current €5.6
million-a-season to €2.8 million. Kluivert's
present deal allows him to leave for just €1.7 million if Barcelona cannot
match or better his current wages.

it runs out this summer. Werder's director Klaus Allofs stated " We have
not managed to qualify for the UEFA Cup next season and therefore we will now
have to economise. As the situation now stands it looks as if we will not be
extending his contract."

agent confirms Bolton interest |
25 May 2003

Arthur Numan's agent Joep Korver has
confirmed Premier League Bolton's interest in the Dutch international but has
insisted that his client will only begin to discuss his future with other
clubs after the Scottish Premier League has ended. Korver did indicate however
that Bolton could well have the first refusal on the 33 year old defender. In
an article in the provincial newspaper the 'Bolton Evening News' Korver
said: "Bolton are interested in Arthur," . "But he will
not speak to anyone until after the Kilmarnock game. Arthur
would be interested in the Premiership as it is one of the best leagues in the
world."

Piero expresses admiration for Ruud |
24 May 2003
|
|
In a rather amusing interview in the
English daily newpaper 'The Sun' Italian international striker Del Piero has
expressed his admiration for Manchester United striker Ruud van Nistelrooy.
Del Piero told the Sun "What a
player. Even when he farts he seems to score!" and also added
"Van Nistelrooy did say he wanted to
improve and become the complete player - it is not clear whether he had this
in mind! He has had an incredible season. To score 44 goals at the top
level nowadays is something special. His qualities are extraordinary. We
experienced it at first hand when he made one wonderful goal against us in the
Champions League this year."

| Ronald
de Boer confident for S.P.L title |
24 May 2003
|
|
Dutch international midfielder Ronald de Boer
is confident that his team Glasgow Ranger will be able to lift the Scottish
Premier League title this Sunday if they resort to the power of
positive thinking. Both Ranger and Celtic are level on points and goal
difference, leaving the possibility of the title being settled by a play-off at Hampden Park next
month. However de Boer believes that a playoff can be avoided, saying: "Everyone knows what they have to do. I don't think there is a
need for special things. You have to get a good rest, try to be focused and do the things you
normally do before a game. Everyone will have his own preparation. For me, every game I am nervous
and for this one it will be a little bit more and there's nothing wrong with that because it gives you that extra
concentration that is required for a game like this. De Boer also warned his
team-mates not to let superstitions influence Sunday's game saying: "There
are people who put their right sock on first. I know Kevin Muscat likes to be
fourth when he enters the pitch and Mikel Arteta likes to be third and I think
Lorenzo Amoruso wants to be last always. A lot of guys maybe have lucky
underwear and suddenly the underwear isn't there. So what do they do then?
They have negative thoughts and can't play the game because the lucky
underwear is not there? But if you just play well than the luck will go
to your side. For example, if you are always there the ball will sometimes
drop for your feet. If you are never there you cannot say you had the luck to
be there. I think you have to deserve that, to be hungry and determined to
score a goal or whatever is required to win the game. Of course, you can have
a lucky bounce if you have a shot deflected in but if you never shoot you will
never know if it goes in."

planning to return to Holland |
24 May 2003
|
|
According to an interview in the Dutch daily
newspaper 'De Telegraaf' Glasgow Rangers defender Bert Konterman is
planning a return to the Dutch Eredivisie next season. Konterman's agent, Henk
van Ginkel, told De Telegraaf that the 32-year-old defender is hoping that
Rangers will annul his present contract that ends next year so that he can be
alowed to move transfer free this summer. Van
Ginkel said: "Rangers are willing to grant Bert's wishes. The club wants to
change to younger players and they must economise, too. "We
think we can get a swift deal. Then Konterman wants to play a couple of years in
the Dutch competition. Another foreign club is not an option for him."

| Chelsea
target Phillip Cocu |
23 May 2003
|
|
Chelsea are
reported to be targeting Dutch international midfielder Philip Cocu. The
Barcelona all rounder is out of a contract this summer and is still
waiting to hear whether or not he will be offered an extension and although
Barca's interim trainer Roddy Antic would like to hold onto the
32-year-old, Barcelona look set to wait until the upcoming presidency
elections before making any decisions. The
former PSV Eindhoven star is in his sixth term with the Spanish outfit but now
appears set to quit Spain. Cocu's former club PSV have stated they would
like to bring him back to Eindhoven but now Chelsea have now joined the
race for his signature, the chance of him returning to Holland to finish off his
career has diminished. Chelsea are planning ahead and are preparing their squad
for next season's Champions League campaign, and Cocu - who is a free agent this
summer and available for no fee - would fit the bill.

Goey's future with Chelsea uncertain |
23 May 2003
|
|
Ex-Dutch international goalkeeper Ed de
Goey's future at Chelsea looks as if it could soon be over after the London
club agreed a deal for Sunderland's 25-year-old Austrian goalkeeper Jurgen
Macho. The Austrian international has
been purchased as cover for first choice Carlo Cudicini, leaving De Goey's
position in doubt. De Goey is one of Chelsea's big earners and with only having
played three games this season it would now seem unlikely that his contract that
runs out this summer will be renewed.

to sign the 33-year-old Glasgow Rangers defender when his contract expires this

a return to the Dutch league. Numan stated that he is only prepared to

deterred by Dutch international striker Roy Makaay's remarks that he would
rather play in England as opposed to Germany and have revealed they are
still in the market for the Spanish Liga's top-scorer and will be
battling it out with Manchester United for Deportivo La Coruna striker. Bayern general manager Uli Hoeness said:
"Roy is currently top goalscorer in Spain, can win the championship with La
Coruna and is being chased by Manchester United. He won't be cheap, that's for
sure. We have always had our
eyes set on Roy. He is an excellent striker and we want him, no matter who else
does, too."

extension still not ruled out |
19
May 2003

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has hinted that
he would still like to hold onto veteran forward, Dennis Bergkamp. In a speech
made to his players after Saturday's FA Cup final victory over Southampton ,
Wenger stated that he is determined to hold
onto his out-of-contract stars, including veterans Dennis Bergkamp and Martin
Keown. Wenger said that he wants all of his players to stay next season to
help fight off Manchester United's hegemony and to help regain the title.
Bergkamp is to hold talks this week with a
view to extending his career with Arsenal to a ninth season.
Bergkamp: "I've got a meeting this week and I hope there won't be any
problems. The boss told me months ago that he wanted me to carry on for another
season and I want that as well. My
desire to carry on is still there. I just love football, especially at the
highest level and I believe I can still play at my age. While you still feel
like that it would be stupid to stop."

Ajax, who are in search of an additional
goalkeeper, could well turn their eyes back towards former goalie Edwin van der
Sar now that Fulham have announced that they are willing to listen to offers for
the Dutch international. Van der Sar was signed by Fulham for 10 Million Euros
from Juventus two years ago and is one of the clubs top-earners on 42.000 Euro a
week. Fulham chairman Mohamed Fayed
is faced with having to drastically cut costs and it is now generally well known
with Fulham that both Fayed and the board now want Van der Sar off the wage
bill.

| De
Boer tempers supporters expectations |
17
May 2003
|
|
Glasgow Rangers Dutch international
midfielder Ronald de Boer has warned the club's supporters not to have their
expectations to high and certainly not to expect a flurry of goals as his
side meet Hearts of Midlothian tomorrow. Although De Boer is aware of the
fact that this year's title could well be decided on goal average, he also knows
that grabbing the points is even more important, saying "If we win the game we get at least one goal back in goal
difference, but we just have to aim to win and must not get carried away with
thoughts of scoring a lot of goals. In the second phase of the Scottish
Premier League you just have to make sure you get three
points and that is difficult enough against Hearts. I will settle for a 1-0 victory right

wages this season, are unwilling to discuss the deal until they know if
they will be playing in next season's Champions League.

is still waiting to hear whether or not he fits into the club's plans for next
year and has up till now not been offered a contract extension for next
season. Bergkamp was dearly hoping to play in Saturday's final after

| Nistelrooy
wins Player of the year award |
15
May 2003

|
Manchester United's Dutch ace Ruud van Nistelrooy has
been named as the Premiership Player of the Season. Van Nistelrooy picked up the
award after being named by Barclaycard, the sponsors of the Premier League. The
prolific striker also won the Premier League golden boot award after bagging 25
league goals for United and will be donating the Golden Boot proze-money
of £1,000 for every goal scored to charities in Holland. Van Nistelrooy said:
"To win both the Barclaycard Golden Boot award and the Player of the Year
rounds off a great season for me. There are so many great strikers in the
Premiership with the likes Henry, Beattie and Shearer, so it is a real honour to
come top of the scorers' league. I'm pleased with my form as a lot of my goals
proved to be very important to our comeback at the end of the season. The goals
I've scored also mean I can donate the £25,000 to two causes in Holland, the
SOS Children's Village and a Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease charity."

| Bergkamp
urges goalie Seaman to stay on |
1
May 2003
|
|
Arsenal's Dutch forward Dennis Bergkamp
believes that the club's veteran goalkeeper David Seaman should not hang up his
gloves yet. Bergkamp issued his plea after Seaman was axed as England's
goalkeeper for their summer tourand Bergkamp is worried that this may act as a
trigger for him to call it a day. Bergkamp:
"I know David is struggling with his fitness and we are not sure yet
whether he will play on Saturday (In the FA Cup final) . There
has been talk the FA Cup final could be his last game for Arsenal if he plays,
but I hope it's not the case. David
has had a good season and his save during our FA Cup semi-final against
Sheffield United proved he is just as sharp as ever. If
he can still make those kinds of saves at his age, then why can't he do that for
Arsenal again next season?"

Dutch international defender Jaap Stam is according
to the Italian sports newspaper 'Tuttosport', high on Real Madrid's
priority list. The Madrid outfit is planning to strengthen its defence, which

Stam lined up as new defensive trio.

| Bergkamp
still hopes for 1 year extension |
14
May 2003
|
Arsenal striker Dennis Bergkamp, whose
contract expires at the end of this season, has asked the club to allow
him to play on for one more season. The 34-year-old ex-Dutch international
striker doesn't feel like hanging up his boots yet but does not want to play for
any other team than the 'Gunners'. Bergkamp is planning to hold talks with
manager Arsene Wenger after this weekend's FA Cup final.
"I still haven´t found any reason to retire. I still feel great physically
and mentally, and basically I just love playing football - and playing for
Arsenal. If anything, the buzz I get from looking forward to playing is more
now. It is almost as if I am enjoying football more and more at this stage of my
career. Maybe it is because I know it will not last forever.
Arsenal manager Wenger is in two minds as to whether he should offer Bergkamp a
new one year extension. On the one hand Arsenal are faced with having to cut
back on their expenditures and even recently stated that Bergkamp could well
axed to save costs whereas on the on the other hand Wenger is a fervent admirer
of Bergkamp.
Bergkamp: "You never know what the future will bring but I just love
playing football. I am comfortable with having another year and I understand the
boss is also happy with that. He told me, although not in as many words, that he
wants me to stay but in this situation you have to wait."

all season and has triggered several clubs to monitor his progress.

| Ruud
wins Premiership Golden boot award |
12 May 2003
|
|
Dutch ace Ruud van Nistelrooy was once again
on target in Manchester United's last game of the season in yesterday's 2-1
victory at Everton to bring his seasonally tally up to 25 league goals , making
him Premiership's golden boot winner. Van
Nistelrooy's boss Sir Alex Ferguson said: "What can you say? He just
gets better and stronger every game. I
am really pleased for people like Ruud and Seba Veron, who are experiencing this
feeling for the first time. No matter
how much you win in the game, you want to enjoy days like this."
Van Nistelrooy "The golden boot and
a Premiership winners' medal is a great combination. Last
year I won some awards but they didn't mean as much because the club didn't win
anything, so today is extra special. I
have no complaints about Thierry Henry winning the player of the year. He
deserved it. In any case, I voted for him, so I can't say anything.

Dutch international defender Frank de Boer
has attracted the interest of Portsmouth, who have just been promoted to the
English Premier League. Portsmouth boss Harry Redknapp is hoping to sign a
number of big names this summer to ensure that 'Pompey's' first year in the
Premier League does not turn out to be their last. De Boer, who is out of
contract in June, has no intentions of returning to his former club Ajax and is
seeking a move to the Premiership. His agent will be in England this week
with the intention of sounding out interested clubs. Portsmouth will have to

| Chelsea
planning to ditch Hasselbaink |
11 May 2003
|
|
Dutch international striker Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink
and French international midfielder Marcel Desailly are to be sacrificed as part
of Chelsea's cost-cutting measures. Hasselbaink, who normally scores at least 20
goals each term, has had a disastrous season having only scored just 11
Premiership goals this season and it is believed that a number of Chelsea stars
would now like to see Hasselbaink ditched for Liverpool ace Carlton Cole. It is
not only Hasselbainks lack of scoring that have urged Chelsea to consider his
position but more a question of money. A
clause in Hasselbaink's contract means that Chelsea may reduce the 31-year-old
players wages to €100,000 Euros a
week for the final two years of his contract but with the club facing debts totaling
€125 million Euros, even the
reduced wages are a too heavy a burden for the club.

the Italian media it is now just a matter of time before Stam signs a
contract with Edgar David's Juventus.

AC Milan's
Dutch international midfielder Clarence Seedorf is still convinced
his side can reach the Champions League final despite being held to a
goalless draw by Inter Milan in first-leg semi-final clash last night. Seedorf
believes that his team were by far the better of the two sides last noght
and indeed Milan, who narrowly beat in the quarter finals with a last
minute goal, had the better of the chances in front of goal, especially in
the second half when Inter relied solely on their outstanding goalkeeper
Francesco Toldo who did extremely well to deny Gennaro Gattuso, Holland
international Seedorf, who moved from Inter to Milan in the summer, said:
"I believe we showed that we are the better team and I'm convinced we
can get to the final. Inter's style is to think destructively while we
played constructively. I think we showed a lot of good play, the way football should be
played."

| Nistelrooy
to finish off career with United |
07 May 2003 |
PSV's hopes of Ruud van Nistelrooy
returning to Eindhoven in the twilight of his career have been dented
after the Dutch international hinted that he would like to stay Manchester
United for the rest of his career. In an article in the English daily
newspaper the 'Manchester Evening News' the prolific goal-scorer
said: "I can see myself staying here for the rest of my career.
I want to win everything possible and make history with United. What I
really want is to get at least 150 goals - or more. For a foreign player
to score that many times for Manchester United would be a truly remarkable
achievement. What happened to us last season was a total sickener for me.
I'm not used to a season finishing without a trophy and it felt bad. I
felt I had missed something.''
In an interview on Manchester United TV, V an Nistelrooy added "I
can't wait until Sunday when I get the trophy - that is when it will be
real for me. Last year everybody said I did well but I didn't win any
medals. This is a big trophy and for me it a major achievement. At the
start of the season I wasn't brilliant. I wasn't happy for about six or
seven games but after that I started to play a bit better and the form I
have been in from January until now is my best since I've been here

| No
Barcelona extension for Phillip Cocu |
07 May 2003 |
Barcelona have informed Dutch
international midfielder Phillip Cocu that his contract will not be
renewed in the summer.
The surprise announcement could mean that Cocu will be returning to his
former club PSV who have the 33-year-old player on the top of summer spree
shopping list.
However although PSV Eindhoven remain favorites to sign Cocu, they could
well have to compete with Premier League sides Manchester City and
Newcastle United who are also chasing Cocu and who are planning to
talks with the midfielder in the coming weeks.

| Kluivert
insists he wants to stay with Barca |
06 May 2003 |
Although Manchester United striker
Ruud van Nistelrooy is convinced that Barcelona striker Patrick Kluivert
will be joining United in the summer, Kluivert is still insisting
that he isn't interested in moving to Manchester United next season.
Kluivert: "There is nothing certain in those rumours on a switch to
Manchester United. I have always said that I want to stay here. The 15th
of May is the date and we will see what happens before then. If I need to
speak with the directors I will do it."
Kluivert's contract runs out in 2005, but has up till now only been
offered an extension on reduced terms.

| Van
Nistelrooy over the moon with title |
05 May 2003 |
Ruud van Nistelrooy says that he is
"overwhelmed" by Manchester United's title success. Van
Nistelrooy:
"I watched the Arsenal game but it was really hard - so
nerve-wracking and exciting. When Viduka scored I jumped up and down. The
five minutes of extra-time nearly killed me. I'm so overwhelmed.
It's unbelievable that we've won it. We've worked so hard and it's a great
feeling, especially after the bad position we were in. The way we won it
is unbelievable.''

| Makaay
bags a hat-trick for Deportivo |
05 May 2003 |
Roy Makaay looks set to win his first
ever golden boot award as European top scorer after bagging a hat-trick
against Recreativo Huelva. Alcaraz's side were no match for the
Gallicians, who scored four goals in a twelve minute period late in the
first half. Valerón started things off with a back header from Víctor's
free kick, and returned the favour a minute later to the winger for him to
score the second. After that it was the Roy Makaay show, the Dutch striker
scoring a hat-trick to keep up his challenge for the European "Golden
Boot" award.
Deportivo La Coruna trainer Javier Irureta believes his team has a
psychological advantage over title rivals Real Madrid.
"Numerically we are in the same situation as we were two weeks
ago," said Irureta. "But psychologically the state of the teams
is not equal."

| Van
Nistelrooy bags hat-trick for United |
04 May 2003 |
|
Ruud
van Nistelrooy netted a hat-trick for Manchester United yesterday and in
doing so has overtaken James
Beattie at the top of the Premiership goal charts with 24.
Van Nistelrooy "The most
important thing was to get the three points, but obviously it is great
personally to have also scored a hat-trick. The
whole team are playing well and it makes it wonderful as a striker to get
so many chances made for you. But we aren't getting carried away just yet.
We have still got to get a result at Everton and we've got to stay
focused." Sir Alex Ferguson added: "All the players contributed,
but obviously Ruud was excellent. He's on the way to becoming one of the
best strikers this club has ever seen and I can't pay him a bigger
compliment."
It has also been reported that United are preparing to breakVan
Nistelrooy's contract this summer with the intention of trebling his wages

| Unitedtalks with Barca for Kluivert |
04 May 2003 |
|
Manchester
United have officiallyd talks with Barcelona about
signing Patrick Kluivert . Manchester representatives were present in
Spain this weekend to witness Kluivert's winning goal in Barca's 2-1 home
win over Real Sociedad 2-1.
Barcelona have informed United that they may have the Dutch international
for a reduced €10 million Euros and are even willing add Dutch
international winger Marc Overmars for an additional €7 million Euros.
Although it is uncertain if United are interested in Overmars it is
generally well known that Kluivert is No.1 priority for Sir
Alex Ferguson, who wants to have Holland's up-front tandem- and give heed
to Van Nistelrooy's wishes who has constantly described Kluivert as his
ideal foil.

| Wenger
calls Van
Nistelrooy a part-timer |
03 May 2003 |
Arsenal coach Arsene Wenger has hit
out at Ruud van Nistelrooy yesterday, calling the Dutch international
striker a part-timer. Wenger's statement came after Arsenal striker
Thierry Henry lifted the Footballer of the Year award by the Football
Writers' Association - days after winning the PFA crown.
Wenger: "Van Nistelrooy
has played fewer games than Thierry. A better goals ratio? Well, would he
have scored so many if he was not fresh and had to play more often?
The awards reward Thierry's
improvement and consistency, all the more remarkable given the number of
games he has played."
Van Nistelrooy's teammate Ryan Giggs said: "I don't mean
any disrespect to Alan Shearer or Thierry Henry, who were the two
strikers, but Ruud's omission proves the timing of the vote should be
changed. We cast our votes two months
ago and Ruud has been sensational since then." Van Nistelrooy has 40 club goals
this season - 10 more than Henry.

other clubs." De Boer also ruled out a return to Ajax and also stated
that he does not intent linking up with twin brother Ronald at Glasgow
Rangers. De Boer has already been targeted by Premier League sides
Blackburn Rovers, Manchester City and Newcastle United.

| Seedorf
soon to resume training |
02 May 2003 |
|
AC Milan midfielder Clarence Seedorf
is hoping to resume training next week. Seedorf had been expected to miss
the rest of the season after hurting his ankle in the first leg of the
Champions League quarter-final against Ajax in Amsterdam. However,
the creative Dutch international midfielder will be back in full
training next week -- with even Milan's Champion's League semi-final game
against Inter Milan a possibility.

their 30-year-old Dutch defender Marco van Hoogdalem for the four

| Gullit:Van
Nistelrooy good,Van Basten great |
01 May 2003 |
|
Former Dutch
international Ruud Gullit has stated in an interview that at this moment
in time it is impossible to compare Ruud van Nistelrroy with Dutch legend,
Marco van Basten, saying that Van Baten was a great player whereas Van
Nistelrooy is only a good player. Gullit "They don't play
in the same way. Marco was a great player and why? Because he won all
those trophies. At the moment Van Nistelrooy is a
good player who wants to be great. If you have only won one trophy in your
life you are just a good player. Three or four games
in Van Basten's career he was decisive and that is what he is remembered
for. I have seen some strikers who win the golden boot every year but they
have never been decisive in their career. I don't want these players. I
want players who maybe score fewer goals but are decisive on the games
when I need them. That's what Van
Nistelrooy wants to become. Zinedine Zidane scored the winner in the World
Cup final and the European Cup final, that's why you remember Zidane and
that's why he is a great player. The same with Ronaldo because he was
there at the right time to win the World Cup."
There will be a
"defining moment" in Van Nistelrooy's career, Gullit said.
Something like that impossible volley Van Basten belted past Rinat Dasaev
into the Russian net in 1988 from an angle that seemed to defy the rules
of geometry.
Or the hat-trick that
destroyed England in the second round. "You can see it in Ruud's
eyes," Gullit said. "No fear. Whoever he is playing against,
whatever. He just does his thing."
Gullit believes that Van Nistelrooy's development
can be attributed to Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson saying: "I
think he is in good hands with Ferguson, because I know Ferguson and he
knows exactly what he needs to win things. I think
Ferguson knew what Ruud was going through when he was injured, he saw in
him something that would help the team. Now he wants to repay Ferguson for
that."

| Arsenal
to offload Bergkamp and Kanu ? |
01 May 2003 |
|
It is now expected that Arsenal
striker Dennis Bergkamp who has stated that he intends to play on for one
more year, will be offloaded by Arsenal this summer alongside with ex-Ajax
striker Nwanko Kanu in order to help secure Robert Pires and Thierry Henry
to new contracts. Kanu has been
linked with a return to Ajax or a possible move Turkish side Fenerbahce. If
Bergkamp's contract should not be renewed then his €70.000 a week wage
demands would more than likely deter Ajax from attempting to lure Bergkamp
to return to Amsterdam for one more year.

| Kluivert
prefers a move to Premier League |
01 May 2003 |
|
Although it was generally believed
that Juventus were favourites to sign
Barcelona striker Patrick Kluivert this summer, Premier League side
Liverpool are now emerging as favourites to capture the Dutch
international. Kluivert has stated once again that it is very unlikely
that he would be making a return to Italy as his preference goes out to a
Premier League adventure. Kluivert "I'd prefer to stay in Spain
and wear the Barcelona shirt but a day will come
when I have to leave and when I do, I would like to play in the
Premiership - it fascinates me." Newcastle United and Manchester
United are also hoping to capture Kluivert who may leave Barcelona for
less than €7 million Euros which is certainly a summer bargain for any
club.

| De
Vries picks up hamstring injury |
30 Apr 2003 |
|
Dutch striker Mark de Vries looks as
if he may well have to miss the rest of the season after the former
Dordrecht striker picked up a hamstring injury against Dunfermaline
Athletics last Saturday which will prevent him from playing for the next 4
weeks. De Vries who signed
a 3 year contract for Scottish
club Heart of Midlothian last April, will be dearly missed by the club
having already scored 14 times this season.

| Football
writers praise Van Nistelrooy |
30 Apr 2003 |
|
This Friday in England the Football Writers'
Association will be naming their Footballer of the Year and although
up and till a month ago most writers would have agreed to fall in line
with the PFA members who voted for Thierry Henry this week, many writers
are now saying that Ruud van Nistelrooy could well be their choice.
While fatigue has finally bitten into Arsenal's squad, Manchester
United have gone into overdrive, with Ruud van Nistelrooy in the drivers
seat. In the last 10 matches, Van
Nistelrooy has scored 13 times for club and country at a time when most
footballers are concentrating on making their holiday plans. However Van
Nistelrooy. He has gone from strength to strength. His tally for the
season is 43 in 56 games - 21 in the league, 14 in Europe, four in the FA
Cup, one in the Worthington Cup and three for Holland. Since
George Best scored 28 times for United in their European Cup-winning year
of 1967-68, only TWO Old Trafford stars had managed to beat the 20 league
goal barrier - Brian McClair (24 in 1987-88) and Dwight Yorke (20 in
1999-2000). But Van Nistelrooy has done
it TWICE in his first two seasons - 23 last term and 21, so far, this
time. His league record for United is a
phenomenal 44 in 60 starts at 0.73 goals a game. This even eclipses
Henry's 80 in 118 at 0.68. Some writers have nowy stated that Ruud
van Nistelrooy deserves to be this season's Footballer of the Year.
|
| Barcelona
interested in Van Nistelrooy |
29 Apr 2003 |
|
Van Nistelrooy's
scoring heroics this season have prompted a cheeky inquiry from Barcelona.
The striker's agent Roger Linse
revealed: "It is true I have had a meeting with the Catalans to
discuss Ruud's future." However it would seem very unlikely that
Barcelona, who are unable to meet Patrick Kluivert's wage demands, would
be able to cough up the readies needed to lure Van Nistelrroy to the club.
|
| Bayern
München confirm interest in Makaay |
29 Apr 2003 |
|
Trainer Ottmar Hitzfeld
has confirmed that Bayern München are very interested in signing Dutch
international striker Roy Makaay who recently stated that he does
not want to continue his stay at Deportivo La Coruña's . The
Primera Liga top-scorer who is also joint no.1 with Inter's Christian Vieri in
the battle for the coveted Golden Boot award, first attracted Bayern's
interest after scoring a hat-trick against the Germans in
the 1st round of the Champions League in München.
|
| Kluivert
and Van Nistelrooy on target |
28 Apr 2003 |
| Both
Patrick Kluivert and Ruud van Nistelrooy were on target for their clubs
this weekend. Kluivert scored Barcelona's second goal in their 2-1 home
win over Sander Westerveld's Real Sociedad. Although Ruud van Nistelrooy
gave Spurs a tast of his skills after just 25 seconds after he cleverly
got the better of Dean Richards and give himself a shooting chance,
however his shot was fairly easily saved. In all Van Nistelrooy was
denied five times by Spurs goalkeeper Keller before finally finding the
back of the net to score his 40th goal of the season. |
| Blackburn
also interested in Ronald de Boer |
28 Apr 2003 |
|
According to reports in the English
newspaper 'The Mail on unday, Blackburn are not only interested in Frank
de Boer but are also targeting both De Boer twins. Blackburn manager
Souness has already confirmed his interest in Barcelona defender Frank de
Boer, however, reuniting the twins has now become a serious option
for Souness who has stated that he sees Ronald as an ideal replacement for
David Dunn.
|
| Juventustalks with Kluivert's agent |
28 Apr 2003 |
|
Juventus haved talks with
Barcelona striker Patrick Kluivert's agent, Sigi Lens. Kuventus
general manager Luciano Moggi is believed to have offered the Dutch
international striker €3.8 million Euros whereas Kluivert is demanding
€4.5 million Euros. Kluivert and Juventus are to continue their talks
next month in Turin.
|
| Blackburn
to choose De Boer or Amoruso |
27 Apr 2003 |
|
Blackburn Rovers boss Graeme Souness says he is still undecided whether to
opt for Glasgow Rangers defender Lorenzo Amoruso or Barcelona's Frank de Boer.
Talking to the English daily newpaper 'The Daily Record' Souness said : "I'm
interested in several players and it is fair to say that Amoruso is one of
them. "I have a list of five possible targets
and Frank de Boer is another name because I need an experienced centre
half to play beside the young boys we have in defence. Glasgow Ranger's
Boss Alex Mcleish has stated that he would be very reluctant to let
Amoruso go unless some offered the club a ridiculous offer for the player.
De Boer on the other hand will certainly come a lot cheaper.
|
| Ronald
de Boer fit for old firm clash |
27 Apr 2003 |
|
Ronald de Boer believes he has good
chance of being fit in time for Sunday's Old Firm
thriller against Celtic insisting that he has overcome his calf injury. In
an interview in the ' Daily Record' De Boer said "My
recovery from injury is going really well. As it stands I would expect to
have an excellent chance of being fit for the match with Celtic. I cannot be 100% certain I
will make it but I am getting there. I would say my chances are 80-20.
I have been getting treatment
from the staff at the club on my calf injury all week and they have done
much to help me work my way towards being fit for the match."
|
| Hasselbaink's
attitude problem |
27 Apr 2003 |
Chelsea's hopes for qualifying for
Champions Leage next season were dealt a blow after dropping two points
against Edwin van der Sar's Fulham. Flop of the match was Chelsea's Dutch
international striker Jerrel Hasselbaink who just can't hit the
target right now. Hasselbaink has built up a reputation at Chelsea that
when he misses the target
himself it's
rarely his own fault. Instead, he usually verbally assaults his team mates
or the referee when failing to score. As was the case in yesterday's 1-1
draw against Fulham. Ex-Ajax winger Jesper Gronkjaer was once again in
terrific form but as Hasselbaink was unable to connect with the Danish
forwards crosses he was the first to get it in the neck from the Dutch
striker. Even Chelsea ace Zola, who started his first game since the 1-0
win over Bolton two weeks ago, was subjected to Hasselbaink's verbal's.
Hasselbaink, who has only netted 11 times this season and is Chelsea's
highest wage earner, must learn to control his tongue and get back into
scoring mode otherwise he could well be put into the summer sales as well
as losing his (reserve bench) position in the Dutch national team.

26 Apr 2003 |

One time international Erik Meijer has signed for
German side Alemannia Aachen where he will be joining fellow compatriots Eric van de Luer Quido Lanzaat and Henry Heeren.

| V.D.Sar
confirms Fulham interest Van Gaal |
24 Apr 2003 |
|
Dutch international goalkeeper Edwin
van der Sar has confirmed Louis van Gaal's interest in becoming Fulham's
new trainer after having talked with his ex-coach. The Fulham goalkeeper
said, "I've spoken with van Gaal and he said the
Premier League is one of the biggest and best competitions in the
world." Van der Sar played under Van Gaal during his successful
years at Ajax when the Amsterdammers lifted the Champions League and also
during Van Gaals less successful period as Holland's national coach.
The former Barcelona trainer is reported to have held talks with Fulham officials in
Amsterdam last week.
|
| Van
Nistelrooy confident for rest of season |
25 Apr 2003 |
|
Ruud van Nistelrooy has said that Manchester United will
have no problem in picking themselves back up from Wednesday's elimination from the
Champions League by Real Madrid saying: "It will be no problem lifting ourselves for
the rest of the season. We are not feeling down because we didn't perform to our
capabilities. We played the European Cup winners and beat them 4-3. It was
a great result but because of the score in the first game it wasn't enough
to get us through. We cannot afford to dwell on it. Winning the Champions League is
not easy but we gave it our best shot and now we have to move on."
|
| Bayern
join race for Patrick Kluivert |
25 Apr 2003 |
|
Bayern Munich are reportedly in the
market for Dutch ace Patrick Kluivert and the club have confirmed that
their vice-president Karl-Heinz Rummenigge
has made contact with Kluivert's agents. The Barcelona striker
has allways indicated that if he were to leave Barcelona then he would
prefer to make the move to the Premier League of return to Italy. However,
it is looking more and more likely that Kluivert will be sold at the
end of the season and the club could well use the €20 million Euros that
Bayern are prepared to pay to help relive their debts. If Kluivert should
be dispersed of this summer then Bayern will have to compete with Newcastle United, AS Roma and Manchester United
for his services.

| Makaay
refuses to negotiate extension |
25 Apr 2003 |
|
Dutch
international striker Roy Makaay is refusing to negotiate a new extension
with his club Deportivo La Coruña out of dissatisfaction with the clubs
conduct two years ago when they refused to extend his deal. Makaay
is currently the Primer Liga's
top scorer and also leader in the prestigious Golden Boot Award. Makaay is
now hoping that he will be snapped up by a top English club, if not then
he is prepared to sit out his current contract that ends in 2005.
|
| Davids
transfer seemingly more liklely |
25 Apr 2003 |
Premier League sides Manchester
United, Liverpool and Arsenal are all hoping to snap up Dutch
international midfielder Edgar Davids' now that his club Juventus have
said no to his wage demands. Davids,
whose contract runs out next season is believed to be demanding €3.8
million Euros per year if a two-year extension or to keep his
current €2.8 million per year if Juventus offer him a five year
extension. Juventus are not prepared to match David's demands and have now
inquired by three Premier League clubs and one Spanish outfit as to how
mush they would be prepared to pay for the Dutch bull terrier.
Juventus have also lined up Glasgow Rangers captain Barry Ferguson as a
possible replacement for Davids who is believed to have a €11
million Euros price tag hanging around his neck.

| Jordi
Cruyff says United will beat Madrid |
22 Apr 2003 |
Alaves
and former Manchester United striker Jordi Cruyff (son of..) believes that
Ruud van Nistelrooy's Manchester United will knock Real Madrid out of the
Champions League tonight, in spite of having to turn their 3-1 first leg
in their favor. The Dutchman claims that Real Madrid are playing their
worst football in years. Speaking on United's website Cruyff said "
"Real Madrid are playing the worst football I have seen in years.
The way in which so many exceptional
players like Zinedine Zidane, Raul, Ronaldo and Luis Figo cannot hold onto
the ball is incredible.
Cruff also added that Van Nistelrooy's goal in Madrid should give United
hope. "The goal that Ruud
van Nistelrooy scored gives hope to United in the return and I believe
that we will see the best game of the quarterfinals at Old Trafford." |
| Roy
Makaay leads golden boot award |
22 Apr 2003 |
|
Dutch international striker Roy Makaay,
whose goal scoring escapades have helped his club Deportivo make a serious
effort towards lifting the Spanish league title this year, has nestled himself
on top of the prestigious golden boot award alongside with Inter Milan striker
Chrisitan Vieri. The primera Liga's top-scorer's brace against Sevilla on Sunday
puts his seasonal score on 24 goals, six more than second placed Kahveci. |
| Makaay
on target as Deportivo beat Seville |
21 Apr 2003 |
Roy Makaay's Deportivo
La Coruna moved to within one point of league leaders Real Madrid thanks to two
goals from the prolific Dutch international striker as Deportivo battled their
way through a compact defense to beat Seville 3-1.
Deportivo trainer Javier Irureta said after the match that he was very pleased
at the way in which his team were able to penetrate Seville's 9 man defensive
wall, saying " Seville were very compact and organized and its difficult to
score against them. The gamed up after the break and we were able to take
advantage."
The trainer also added that this years title has become a three horse race
between Deportivo, Real Madrid and Dutch international goalkeeper Sander
Westerveld's Real Sociedad. |
| Rangers
extension for Mols not ruled out |
19 Apr 2003 |
Glasogow Rangers boss Alex McLeish has
stated that he has not yet made a decision regarding Michael Mols's future with
the club, insisting that it is not certain that he will have to leave. The
contracts of Mols and fellow countryman Arthur Numan are set to expire in
the summer. Numan has already declined the club's offer of reduced terms, Mols
has not even received an offer. However after Mols's recent impressive
performances McLeish has insisted that could change.
McLeish ""I don't think you can rule anything out. I have certainly
not made my mind up 100% on where we are going from here. It depends on what is
available to me - whether I can strengthen the squad or have to shorten it.''
McLeish also added that if Mols was not at Rangers next season he was sure
to be at another top-level club.
saying "I don't think Michael has anything to worry about, one way or
another, if he keeps up the form of recent weeks.
"His work-rate has been tremendous and if players are playing to top form
then it can certainly help things as far as I am concerned.'' |
| De
Boer continues Blackburn flirtation |
19 Apr 2003 |
Dutch international defender Frank
de Boer has confirmed he'd like to move to Blackburn Rovers in the summer if he
does not strike a new deal with his current club Barcelona at the end of this
current term. Although Ajax were expected to pounce upon De Boer in the event of
their current captain Christian Chivu being captured by Spanish or Italian
giants at the end of the season, his current flirtations with Blackburn would
make this now seem less likely.
De Boer "First I want to stay here but then if it is good for me and for my
family then I would like Blackburn as it is a good club with a nice pitch and a
good crowd.
"But first I want to wait, I expect to hear something by the end of the
month. I am very honoured that they want to have me, it is great that there is
interest in me." |
| Bergkamp
to continue for one more season |
19 Apr 2003 |
|
Dennis Bergkamp has told Arsenal trainer
Arsene Wenger that he believes he is still capable of top-flight football and
intends to extend his career for one more year. Although Bergkamp has decided to
leave his final decision until the end of the season, Wenger is confident that
he can hold on to Bergkamp for next term. "Dennis
has said that he wants to stay here. I want him to stay for another year and to
finish his career here. He is a
fantastic player and always gives his best. The problem we had against United
was in being creative as a team," |
| Stam
rejects new Lazio offer |
18 Apr 2003
|
Italian Serie A teams are lining up to
take over Lazio's dissatisfied Dutch international defender after the
player admitted that he could leave Lazio
in the summer. Stam's discontentment arises from Lazio's proposal to pay the
player's outstanding wages in club shares rather than cash. Lazio
have not paid some of their players for as much as five months and have also
asked the squad to accept a 45 per cent pay cut next season. The former
Manchester United defender said: "The new offer is totally unacceptable
and unless something changes I will definitely not be signing it."
AC Milan are apparently
willing to offer Sam Dalla Bona, Martin Laursen and the loan of Marco
Borriello to secure Stam's services for next season, , while Juventus
and Inter have also displayed an interest.
According to Stam's agent Tom van Dalen the defender will never return to
the Premier League saying "He absolutely will not return to England,
there is no chance at all.
"He believes that once you have played for Manchester United you cannot
play for any other English club.
"In truth he is still a little disappointed with the manner in which he
was treated towards the end of his time with United."
|
| Kluivert
"Barcelona just as good as Madrid" |
18 Apr 2003
|
Dutch international striker has stated in an
interview that he believes that there is not much difference between his club
Barcelona and table-toppers Real Madrid.
Although Barcelona are trailing 24 points behind high flying Real the Dutch
striker believes that if the Catalans go to the Bernabeu believing they
can win they will have a good chance.
"I do not think that there is so much of a difference between the two teams.
The fact that we are a long way behind them in the league is not a fair
reflection of how well we are capable of playing. If we think that we are going
to lose when we go there because they are much better than us, then there is no
point in playing the game. "I am going into the game believing that I will
score. "Scoring goals is always special, but to do so against Real Madrid
is even more special, so I really want to score in this game."

| Double
Dutch Barcelona punch-up |
18 Apr 2003
|
|
Barcelona's intentions of dealing
Real Madrid a knock out this weekend have been taken all too seriously by
Barca's players during their training sessions this week after two punch-ups
involving Dutch strikers. Earlier
in the week Luis Enrique and Dutch international winger Marc Overmars came
to blows before having to be separated by teammates and yesterday Dutch striker
Patrick Kluivert and Thiago Motta demonstrated their martial arts skills,
with this time captain Enrique having to jump in to stop the squabbling. Enrique
stated after the brawl "It's good that this happens it shows how motivated
everyone is - maybe it should happen at every training session!"

| Ronald
de Boer hailed by trainer Mcleish |
14 Apr 2003 |
| Glasgow
Rangers coach Alex McLeish has hailed Dutch international midfielder
Ronald de Boer for his performance after Rangers thrashed Dundee
United 4-1. De Boer was twice on target and set up Rangers striker's Shota
Arveladze brace. After
the match McLeish said, "That was probably as good a performance as
we've seen. He
has been very consistent and at the beginning of the season I said to him
that we needed him to be playing for a significant part of the season for
us to have a crack. He
had a great pre-season and that gave him the energy and capacity to play
as many games as he has. His
performance on an extremely poor surface was quite outstanding." |

Nistelrooy praises Sir Bobby Robson |
11 Apr 2003
|
Ahead of Manchester Uniteds clash against
Newcastle this Saturday, Dutch international striker Ruud van Nistelrooy has
hailed former PSV manager Sir Bobby Robson.
Van Nistelrooy played under Robson at PSV Eindhoven for a season before
moving to the Premier League but still remembers Robson's influence. In an
interview on Manchester United's website Van Nistelrooy said: "He's a great
manager, The years that he's been with Newcastle now and the clubs that he
had previously, it's amazing what he's achieved. It was a privilege to
work with him for that one year at PSV Eindhoven.
"He has put together a great team. Everyone knows that Craig Bellamy
and Alan Shearer are a great duo up front, then there's Kieron Dyer
and Jermaine Jenas who come in from midfield to make great runs into our
box. Laurent Robert's on the left - he's a good striker of the ball and
a good crosser. That makes them a complete team.''
Although it is four years since Manchester United last beat Newcastle in the
north-east, with Ruud van Nistelrooy in such sparkling form - he needs one
more goal to match last season's 36 in all competitions - confidence
should be high.

Arsenal's prolific French striker Thierry
Henry has praised team-mate Dennis Bergkamp for his consistent performances and
his football instincts saying that Bergkamp has helped him to excel at Arsenal,
saying: " "It seems like you can make a run, any run, and somehow,
even though there are lots of players in between, Dennis will see you. He makes
things look so easy. We all know it's not but you have to play with him to
understand. It is instinct. He's played with me, Ian Wright, Nicolas Anelka,
Kanu and adapted to them all. There are not many Bergkamps around."

Numan rejects Rangers offer |
10 Apr 2003
|
Dutch international defender Arthur Numan
has confirmed he will quit Glasgow Rangers at the end of the season after
failing to agree terms for a
one-year contract extension. Numan, who was prepared to accept a
considerable wage cut but not quite as big as Rangers would have liked,
believes his exit could spark off a a big-name player exodus. Numan was
offered a new contract with a 70 percent wage reduction and it has been
suggested that fellow team mates
Michael Mols and Claudio Caniggia will be offered similar wage
reductions when their contracts run out this summer. Next season Lorenzo
Amoruso, Ronald de Boer, Bert Konterman and Fernando Ricksen, will all
go into the final year of their Rangers deals in the knowledge that
big-money contracts are gone forever.
"We spoke twice to Rangers and we could not agree a new deal, so
there is definitely no chance of me staying.
"The gap was too big and it was very disappointing knowing that I
had to leave, but I know the club's situation.
"I was still really hopeful of staying for another year, but it
couldn't be done."

| Cruyff
warns United they cant hold Beckham |
10 Apr 2003
|
Jordi Cruyff (son of) has
stated in an interview in the "Manchester Evening News' that if Real Madrid
decide to swoop for Manchester star David Beckham then United will have no say
in the matter, saying "I am sorry for any other big clubs in the
world, including United, but if Real want a player they can get him, it is as
simple as that!
"They
have got this strength to track players all over the world. A lot of players
would give up what they have to play for Real and they take advantage of that.
"If the club want
Beckham and they put the money on the table, then they'll have him.
"He would
definitely be suited to play for Real.
"There were two
players at my time at Old Trafford who would have been suited to Spanish
football and they would have been Becks and Ryan Giggs.
"In the Spanish
game they say they prefer a nice dribble or pass as opposed to a nice tackle. In
England it is vice versa.
"Becks is a great
passer of the ball and would fit in no problem.
"There are quite a
few players in England who wouldn't have a problem football-wise adapting, but
would have problems lifestyle-wise.
"Beckham would
adapt to both. It's a different mentality off the field over here in Spain and
you have to integrate and settle into the culture. Becks has the right mentality
for the Spanish culture."

willing to accept Chelsea payoff |
09 Apr 2003
|
In a story published in the English daily
newspaper 'The Daily Mail' ex-Ajax and Dutch international defender Winston
Bogarde has stated he is willing to accept a payoff from Chelsea to enable the
club get him off their payroll. Bogaarde is reported to be earning 56,000 euros
a week in Chelsea´s reserves and although Bogaarde has only made two first team
appearances for Chelsea since his arrival at the club three years ago, he
has clocked up a total of 8.4 million euros in wages. Up till now Boggarde has
resisted all suggestions that he should try to find another club but has now
however hinted that he might be prepared to accept a pay-off which will mean
Chelsea do not have to pay him in full for the final year of his contract.
Bogaarde: "It´s near the end of another disappointing season for me, so
there is increasing speculation that I´ll be leaving Chelsea in the summer. I´m
not stupid and I understand why people expect me to go. Things have been so busy
here with games that nobody has had time to speak to me about my situation yet,
which I understand. No conversations have taken place and they probably won´t
until May at the earliest. However, I´ll be very surprised if the club don´t
approach me at the end of the season wanting to discuss my contract. I think it´s
clear for everyone to see that Chelsea would like me to leave, so I´m fully
expecting them to re-talks, to try and come to some sort of agreement. In
the past, I´ve always insisted that Chelsea honor the contract they gave me -
and I don´t believe there was anything wrong with that - but I´m willing to
talk about it again with them, if they wish."

09 Apr 2003

Although Manchester United were defeated

perspective for United, giving them a
platform to build on back at Old Trafford in two weeks' time Ferguson said:
"I thought it was a fair result. We had our moments, and our attacking
play was good in the second half. "We got that vital away goal,
which may be the best thing to come out of the night."
Ruud van Nistelrooy has already scored 11 times in the Champions League this
season and that is tow more than the record he set last year.

Manchester United, Arsenal and Liverpool as being England's best clubs but
Newcastle has also become a great club. We discored that ourselves when

minutes later the Dutch striker claimed his second.
Rangers man of the match Ronald De Boer supplied a great pass for Mols, who
stumbled over the ball before revcovering to stab the ball past Arthur

05 Apr 2003
|
Ruud van Nistelrooy was United's man of the match
this afternoon as he converted two penalties in Manchester United's 4-0 win over
Liverpool. In the fourth minute of the
game Liverpool were ruduced to 10 men when ex-Willem II defender Hyypia tugged
Van Nistelrooy to the ground in the penalty area leaving referee Mike
Riley no other choice than to send Hyypia for an early shower and point to the
penalty spot. Nistelrooy converted the resultant spot-kick for his 16th
league goal of the season. Although Liverpool dominated the remainder of the
second act, they were unable to produce any goals.
In the second half United took control of the match and in the 65th minute
Liverpool were Biscan was forced to foul Scholes. leaving Van Nistelrooy another

| Postma
hates strikers theatricals |
04 Apr 2003
|
In an interview in the
English daily newspaper 'The Sun' Aston Villa's Dutch goalkeeper Stefan
Postma has stated that as soon as he steps on the pitch his personality
completely changes. saying: "I have a spark in me. I change when I'm on
the pitch. I'm much more aggressive, more demanding. If a decision goes
against me I yell at the referee - and also at the player who won the
penalty.
The 26-year-old goalie who recently took over from axed goalkeeper
Peter Enckelman also said that he gets absolutely infuriated at strikers
diving theatricals, sending a warning to Everton's Francis Jeffers,
who Villa meet on Saturday.
"You know with Jeffers that if you get a
one-on-one then he will try to play the ball and go past you - and if he
feels you touching him he will go down.
"And I know that if Jeffers does it on
Saturday, I will get hold of him by his shirt and I will pick him up.
"I'll yell at the referee too. I've got
yellow cards for doing that.
"I won't say anything bad to the ref, but
I will tell him he's wrong - in a very loud voice!"

| Nistelrooy
aims top score 150 for United |
04 Apr 2003
|
|
Ruud van Nistelrooy has stated in an interview in the English daily
newspaper 'The Sun' that his aim is to score 150 goals for Manchester during
his career with the club.
"I want to make history at Old Trafford and, now I've scored more
than 50 times with United, I reckon that I will score 100. But what I really
want is to get at least 150 goals or more.
"For a foreign player to score that many times with Manchester
United would be a truly remarkable achievement.
United face two crucial matches this week against Liverpool in the league
and Real Madrid in the Champions League. Winning both games will set them on
target for some impressive silverware but failing to win both matches could
see them failing to win a trophy for the second season running.
Van Nistelrooy "I want to win everything possible with United and I think
we are en route to doing that.
"We can win both these tournaments - and it is only the great teams
who can say that.

| "Hasselbaink
needs a kick up the backside" |
03 Apr 2003
|
Dutch international and Chelsea striker Jerrel
Hasselbaink has been described as a 'disgrace' and who
should be axed, by ex-Chelsea striker David Speedie. Speedie
who now works as a radio sports journalist, believes Hasselbaink has no
commitment and was livid at Hasselbaink's attitude during last week's
FA Cup replay against Arsenal saying that this was one of the reasons why the Blues lost.
Speedie: "I was looking forward to watching Chelsea in the
final and I was gutted that we went out. For their first goal, Hasselbaink was a disgrace. You can't tell me
that a man in possession of the ball can run faster than a player who isn't
and he just gave up. That showed a lack of commitment.
Hasselbaink needs a kick up the backside. He is getting paid a lot of money and
should be throwing himself at everything. I
think Eidur Gudjohnsen is a better all-round player and I can't understand why
Hasselbaink is still in the side.

03 Apr 2003
|
|
Alaves
striker Jordi Cruyff (son of) has advised his former club Mancester United
to snap up Real Sociedad striker Nihat Kahveci, telling them that he would
be a great signing for the club. In an interview in the 'Manchester Evening
News' Crujff said:
"He was signed from Besiktas last season by John Toshack and he took a
lot of criticism for his performances. But this year he has been a new
player. He
is unbelievably quick and shoots from everywhere. If he played alongside a
big centre forward he is very good feeding off that type of player because
he is so incredibly fast. You
really have to pinch yourself to believe how quick he is. He'll have a crack
at goal from around 30-40 yards. He is very ambitious with his shooting and
has been successful with it. He's a good player. Nihat
would suit United's style. If United buy someone they would normally have
wanted to see a couple of consistent seasons behind the player. He'd
certainly be one they should be watching though."

| Zenden
lashes Chelsea manager's mentality |
28 Mar 2003
|
Boudewijn Zenden has lashed out at Chelsea Manager Claudio Ranieri's
saying that his "Italian mentality" is
too negative. "He has an Italian mentality while I have a Dutch one. He plays games
not to lose while I play them to win"
In spite of Zenden having only played in 11 of Chelsea's 41 league and cup
games, he has still managed to contain his place in the Dutch national squad
even being given preference to Barcelona winger Marc Overmars. Zenden is
convinced that Ranieri is not making use of his qualities when called upon.
"In my games for Holland, PSV Eindhoven and Barcelona, I have spent
20% of my time defending and 80% in attack. But, with Chelsea, I have to defend 60% of the time.
Ranieri sets out with a defensive formation. He likes us to play on
the counter-attack and hit opponents on the break. He's also capable of changing his tactics during a game. Last
season, we sometimes used four different systems in the same match."

Ricksen: "Why would I want to leave? Rangers are a fantastic club
and my family are very happy here in Scotland.
I haven't heard anything from the club yet
as I still have a year after this season to go, but I love playing for Rangers
and would like to stay.
When I came from Holland I didn't really realize
what a massive change it would be for me, but I am very settled at the club and
get on well with the coach, fans and the rest of the players.
I'd like to think I am doing a good job for

"In Holland or England you might get a decision that doesn't go your

performance for Barcelona. He passed well, scored and took on

intends to stay with Chelsea |
23 Mar 2003
|

insisted that he has no plans whatsoever to leave Chelsea next season in spite
of the fact that he has seen very little first team action this season. Although
The Dutch winger no longer fits into manager Claudio Ranieri's tactics who
only believes in having one winger in his squad, Zenden has stated that he has
no complaints.
"I really like Chelsea and, as long as there is one per cent chance
that I can still make it here, I will continue to fight," he said.
Ranieri explained, "Bolo doesn't play on a regular basis because I
can't have two wingers, as it would leave us too exposed. It's not his
mistake.

23 Mar 2003

| Manchester
United's manager sir Alex Ferguson has hailed Ruud van Nistelrooy as the
ultimate goal-scoring machine after scoring all of United's goals in their
0-3 win over Fulham. Ferguson was in rap and roar after Van Nistelrooy's
second goal and even described it as one of the best goals in United's
rich history. "Ruud is a
marvellous striker. He is so accurate. You won't see a better goal that
his second one - full of courage, determination, drive and speed.
I thought it was one of the best goals in the
history of this club. We have had players at United who can score
spectacular goals and some who score lots of goals - Ruud can do
both." |

22 Mar 2003
|
|
Ruud van Nistelrooy had a hay day for Manchester
United today slamming home a hat-trick against Fulham to put United back on top
of the Premier League. After slotting home a penalty on the stroke of half-time,
Van Nistelrooy produced a really fantastic 2nd goal by rounding off brilliant solo. Van Nistelrooy
picked up the ball on the
halfway line and ran past Fulham's entire defence before netting behind Van
de Sar's stand-in, Mike Taylor. The goal will surely be the highlight of many a
sports program this weekend and will certainly be one of the premiership's goal
of the month. In the final minute, Van Nistelrooy's rounded off a Giggs
cross to complete his hat-trick.

Musampa's outstanding form this season has not gone unnoticed. After
having attracted the interest of Newcastle
United and AS Roma it now appears that Premier League side West Ham

ex-Ajax midfielder in action. |
| Stefan
Postma remains with Aston Villa |
18 Mar 2003
|
Former De Graafschap
goalkeeper Stefan Postma has insisted that he will remain at Aston
Villa and fight for a first team place. The Dutchman has sidelined since
his arrival at the club last May and has been linked with a return to
Holland at the end of the season.
Postma played against
Manchester United on Saturday and said: "Playing in front of a crowd of
42,000 is a great occasion. I know I can do better than I did I did against
Manchester United. But I did not do too badly.
"I have only played eight games for the first team and we will have to
wait until next season to see if I have the first team jersey. This is why I
came to Villa to push on my career. I think the pace is so much greater here
than what I was used to in Holland. There is no comparison.
"I have improved a lot. If I were to go back to Holland it would be
easy for me. I keep in contact with what is going on Holland. But since I've
been with Villa I have only been able to go back home on two occasions and
that was at the beginning of the season."

| Van
Bronckhorst optimistic |
18 Mar 2003
|
|
Arsenal and Dutch international Giovanni Van
Bronckhorst has stated that his side will not even contemplate being
knocked out of the Champions League by Valencia tomorrow evening. Arsenal
are currently second place in group 'A', behing leaders Ajax but have have
failed to win their last four Champions' League games and must avoid
defeat to qualify for the quarter-finals. Arsenal are also without key
players Martin Keown, Ashley Cole and Dennis
Bergkamp while while Patrick Vieira, David Seaman and Ashley Cole are all
doubtful.
Even so, Giovanni Van Bronckhorst insists: "Nobody is thinking about
failing. "We
have worked too hard to throw it all away. It is make or break and time to
show that we can win this tournament." "Our
fate is still in our own hands and we're not going there just to sit back.
That's not our way."

| Manchester
United target Overmars |
16 Mar 2003
|
|
Manchester United, who had set their sights on
Leeds winger Harry Kewell, have now turned their attention to
Dutch international winger Marc Overmars.
Kewell is to hold talks this week with Leeds about a new contract extension
and although there have been problems concerning his his reluctance to sign,
United believe it would be more realistic to look elsewhere for a
wing-forward.
The 29-year-old former Ajax and Arsenal forward is out of contract in just
over a year's time and so this will be one of the last opportunity for
Barcelona to earn back some of the £25.5m they initially paid for him to
Arsenal. It has been reported that Barcelona are prepared to cut as
much as £17million off the fee and are therefore prepared to accept around
£8.5m for the player.
Although Liverpool and Rangers are continuing to
monitor situation, United are confident they can see off any competition.

want to sell Kluivert |
14 Mar 2003
|
|
Barcelona, who a forced with an astronomical wage bill each month are
planning to put striker
Patrick Kluivert up for sale at the end of the season now that ther are forced
with having to to offload several of its big-name players. Kluivert is
reported to be earning over £7 million-a-season at the Nou Camp and in
spite of appraisal from new trainer Antinc, his lack
of goals this term has made him an ideal candidate to be sacrificed.
Barcelona have also stated they are willing to sell the Dutchman for a
cut-price £5 million just to get him off their wage bill. Newcastle United, Liverpool and Manchester United have all been
linked with Kluivert this season, the rest will now surely follow.

13 Mar 2003

|
Jaap Stam's agent Bruno, has denied that the Dutch international
is about to make a move to Milan after speculations that Lazio will be
offloading some of their stars to help alleviate their financial
problems. Bruno stated that Stam is very happy at Lazio and would like
to see out his contract with the club. However, Bruno has not completely
ruled out a transfer, saying: "We know also that Lazio are
currently having financial difficulties, so at the end of season
anything is possible. It depends if Stam prefers to stay in Italy or go
back to Holland."

According to reports in the Dutch media Liverpool are planning
to replace Emile Heskey, who will be moveing off to Spurs this summer,
with Dutch international Patrick Kluivert. Although Liverpool will
recieve 12 million euros for Heskey they will still have to fork out
another 8 millions euros to be able to pay Barcelonan's 20 million euros
price tag for Kluivert. It is still unclear how Kluivert feels about a
move but FootballNL would be surprised if he should except and believe
that only a move to Manchester United or Arsenal would lure him away
from Barcelona.

impresses in Barcelona's C.L. win |

|
| Barcelona
are now definately through to the knock-out round of the Champions
League after beating Bayer Leverkusen 2-0 at the Nou Camp last night.
Javier Saviolad the score for
Barcelona in the 17th minute of the game. 2 minutes into the second act,
Dutch defender Frank de Boer put the result beyond doubt.
Barcelona;'s new trainer Raddy Antic
said after the match that it wasn't one of Barca's best games but the
result was of utmost importance. "The result is very
important. Qualifying for the quarterfinals this way brings us great
authority, which is what you need to win the Champions League. Every
time we play now, our opposition are showing us more respect. It's
become more difficult to break teams down, but we have the quality in
attack to overcome this."
Antic was also very pleased with
Dutch defender Michael Reizeger's performace saying " Michael
Reiziger, Xavi and Gaizka Mendieta as the best players on the night.
They deserve more recognition than the others,".

11
Mar 2003
|
|
Patrick Kluivert, who has been under fire
recently with some sections of the Catalan press questioning his
finishing abilities has seen their new trainer Raddy Antic leap to his
defence.
Antic said last night: "Kluivert is of the standard of a Barcelona
player in all aspects, of reputation, image, form and how he plays. I
feel privileged for being able to have a player of these
characteristics, because he offers many possibilities to me as a
trainer." Antic
was also asked about midfielder Juan Roman Riquelme, "Like Kluivert,
he must learn how to live with the pressure of being a Barcelona
player." |
| Angry
exchange Kluivert with supporter |
10 Mar 2003
|
Barcelona
striker and Dutch international Patrick Kluivert had an angry exchange with a teenage
supporter at the end of Saturday's 1-1 draw with Valladolid.
Commentating on his action, fellow compatriot Frank de Boer said, "I'm not in favour of such actions. If confronted,
I would not have reacted to the fan. But it's understandable because Patrick was frustrated after
the game. These things happen."
Patrick Kluivert has also refused to be drawn
into speculation that Barcelona is willing to listen to offers for him
in the summer after reports this week suggested Barca would look to fund
a move for Real Madrid's Javier Portillo by selling the Dutchman.
There is also speculation that
Kluivert will be asked to take a pay-cut to remain at the Nou Camp.
But he told Marca, "I
have been here for five years and I know how it works. This sort of
stuff does not affect me. My intention is to continue here. It is the
same answer as always. I can't think about a wage cut because nothing
has been put to me."

| De
Boer rules out Champions League place |
10 Mar 2003
|
Barcelona's
Dutch defender Frank de Boer has ruled out any chance of his team reaching a
Champions League spot with the after the 1-1 draw that saw both sides score own goals and both have
decent penalty claims turned down. Barca are now back in mid-table.
Although ruled out for a Champions League place De Boer says the
club's ambitions of a UEFA Cup place are still on course despite
Saturday's 1-1 draw with Valladolid.
"Failing to beat valladolid was definitely a step backwards for us.
Each game is like a final for us. Two wins in a row and we could
be up in fifth or two defeats and you can be right back at the
beginning. That's how tight the league is at the moment. Our objective is to qualify for the Uefa Cup now, because reaching
a Champions League place will be very, very difficult."

Stam urges Giggs to join Lazio |
09
Mar 2003
|
|
According to a story run in the
English Sunday Mirror, Jaap Stam has urged his old Manchester United
team-mate Ryan Giggs to turn his back on Sir Alex Ferguson and join him
at Lazio Roma. The have been several speculations recently linking the
Welsh international to Inter Milan in a £15 million deal and Stam is
convinced that with Gigg's way of playing he would become an instant hit
in Italy.
Stam: "There has been a great deal of speculation recently in both
Italy and England about my old team-mate Ryan Giggs joining Inter Milan
in the summer. Of course, I have no idea whether there is any truth in
the rumours or not but I do know Ryan and I do know Italian football and
it is a story that has got many people talking in both countries. I have
no doubt Ryan would be a huge success in Serie A. Italian football is
tactically a different challenge to the Premiership, but world-class
players can perform anywhere and Ryan is definitely a world-class
player. I am sure he would
adapt to the game here quickly and be as big a star in Italy as he is in
England." |

07
Mar 2003
|
It
appears that Dutch international defender Frank de Boer held talks with Ajax trainer Ronald Koeman last week about a
possible return to Ajax. At the age of 34, De Boer can still chose
between three clubs to play for next season. Barcelona
officials are to meet next week to discuss the future of the defender
and Barcelona's new trainer Atnic has stated that he would dearly like
to hold onto the player and has recommended that the club move to renew
the Dutchman's contract, which expires in the summer. Manchester City are also interested in De Boer and manager Kevin
Keegan, who has just been told he can splash out on new players, has
put Frank de Boer on the top of his shopping list.

| Huub
Stevens call for goal-mouth cameras |
06 Mar 2003 |
| Hertha's
Dutch coach Huub Stevens would like to rethe debate about the need
for referees to be able to use goal-mouth cameras in important matches.
During last weekend's match against Hamburg, Hertha were trailing 1-0
after Dutch midfielder Nico-Jan
Hoogma had put his side ahead in the 56th minute of the game, when i
Television pictures revealed later
that the ball had in fact crossed the goal-line. Stevens was of
course very dissapointed that his team was denied a valuable equaliser.
"It's unfortunate that in the
year 2003 scenes like this still exist. We need a goal camera for such
cases." The two sides are
rivals for the UEFA Cup places, with Hamburg in fifth place and Hertha in
seventh, three points behind. Germany's FA's referee spokesman,
Klaus Low, said that tests in England had demonstrated that goal-mouth
camera's worked fine and that the referees would also welcome such a tool
but that the 750,000 euro costs that are needed to fit out each stadium
with the necessary equipment was too high for most club's budgets. "In
England a project to examine the use of goal cameras was considered one
and a half years ago. But the idea failed because of the substantial cost
of 750.000 euros per stadium." "We
as referees would welcome an electronic support." |
| Juventus
target Jaap Stam |
05 Mar 2003
|
|
Juventus supremo Vittorio Chiusano is confident coach Marcello Lippi will
sign a contract extension in the next couple of days.
Lippi's contract expires in the summer but Chiusano, vice-president of
the Italian champions, says they are close to sorting out a new deal.
"Lippi's contract renewal is not a problem - we have an
agreement," Chiusano told Italian radio station RAI.
"The only aspect to be defined is the duration of the contract. I
think this will be done in the next few days."
Lippi however stated after last nights 3-0 win over Inter Milan that
if he is to stay on then the club will have to make a few purchases. Top of
Lippi's shopping list is Dutch international Jaap Stam. "I find
all the criticism about our defence exaggerated especially as our defence
has conceeded the least amount of goals this season but on the other hand it
would not be a bad idea if we would buy an experienced defender like Jaap
Stam." Juventus are prepared to pay Lazio 9 million euros, Lazio are
asking 10 million and according to Juventus's Luciano Moggi it's just a
question of time before Stam joins Juventus.

| Bergkamp
not yet ready for retirement |
04 Mar 2003
|
In an article in the English daily newspaper 'The Daily Star" Dennis
Bergkamp has stated that he is delighted with his fitness and would like to
extend his stay with Arsenal for at least one more season.
Although Bergkamp will be 34 when his contract expires in May this year he
has no intention of hanging up his boots stating that he is convinced that
he is in good enough shape for him to continue playing. "What better is
there to do than play football? The most important thing is that you are
physically well and I feel great. "I've always lived to play football
and it helps if you take care of your body throughout your whole
career."
The ex-Dutch international also stated that after eight year in north London
he feels even more at home than in his Ajax period, saying: "I played
at Ajax professionally for seven years so I've been here longer. It feels
more like home."

|
According to the Dutch daily newspaper "De
Telegraaf", Dutch trainer Aad de Mos has found employment in Saudi
Arabia where he is to replace Al Hilal's Rumanian trainer Ilie Balaci who
was sacked last week after series of poor results. De Mos will be flying off

option for one more year. With just four games left to the competition Al-Hilal
are hoping to contain their second place but have little chance in winning
the title having played more games than the current number one. De Mos
stated that he had Spoken to Prince Abdullah Bin Mosaad during Ajax's home
game against Arsenal about a possible move but after Al-Hilal's 1-1 draw
against bottom of the table Al Nijmeh, the move was speeded up.

Goal Hasselbaink against Newcastle |
01 Mar 2003 |
After
a dry spell, Dutch international Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink was once again on
target this afternoon,ng the score in the 31st minute with a flying
header during Chelsea's confrontation with Newcastle; the only problem is
it was into his own net. Up until then Hasselbaink's side had dominated
the match and justice was done when Chelsea equalized six minutes later. .
Seven minutes after the break defender Olivier Bernard neatly netted
behind goalie Cudicini after a fine move down the left, for the final 2-1
score line.
This defeat will surely put a dent into Chelsea's plans of securing a
Champions Lerague place. Newcastle United now go level on
points with Manchester United in the Premiership. table. |

clubs target De Boer and Cocu |
28 Feb 2003 |
|
Although both Frank de Boer and Philip Cocu are
reported to be planning a return to their old clubs in Holland at the end
of this season a move to The Premiership League looks more likely now that
they have both been targeted by a number of English clubs including the
likes of Chelsea, Manchester City and Newcastle United. Barcelona are keen
to start building a new team and are also forced to lighten their wage
bill.
The player's agent, Rob Jansen, has confirmed there is interest from
England. He
said: "There's interest from England but we have not entered into any
negotiations yet."

charged with improper conduct |
28 Feb 2003
|
|
Dennis Bergkamp will probably have to
sit out another ban after being charged by the English FA for improper
conduct after his
clash with West Ham midfielder Lee Bowyer last January. In that match it
looked as if Bergkamp caught Bowyer in the face with his arm/elbow while
preparing Henry's second goal. The FA stated they would look into the
incident and yesterday the FA announced on their website that they would be
charging Bergkamp. Bergkamp now has 14 days in which to appeal.

| Barcelona
draw,Cocu out for rest of season |
27 Feb 2003 |
|
Barcelona's 0-0 Champions League draw against Inter means that the club
are more or less through to the next round of the the Cup. However,
if Phillip Cocu will be part of Barcelona's squad for the remainder of the
competition remains to be seen after the Dutch all-rounder was forced to
leave the pitch which looked like a serious knee injury. Cocu is to go
into hospital today to have his knee examined. Barcelona fear that he will
more than likely be out of action for the rest of the season. Barcelona's
new trainer Raddy Antic slammed the San Siro pitch after the match.
"It's a real shame that these 'cracks'
must play on such a pitch, which was very poor." In addition, I am
concerned by the injury of Cocu, who has damaged the ligaments of his
knee. He added, "Barca played to
win, but the state of the pitch worked against us." |
| No
City extension for Tyrone Loran |
27 Feb 2003 |
|
Ex- Volendam player Tyrone Loran who joined Manchester City last year
and who is currently on loan to Tranmere Rovers, has been told by
City boss Keegan that he is no longer wanted. The Dutch defender has
failed to impress since his arrival and has not even been able to secure a
place with City's reserve team and so it has no use him returning to Maine
Road when his loan deal with Tranmere expires making him transfer-free
this summer. Keegan said: "Tyrone
has gone now. We loaned him out to Tranmere until the end of the season
when his contract with us expires. We
had to make a decision on Tyrone before Christmas. Sadly we didn't think
that he had improved that much. He has a
great attitude but when you look at what we have got in that position you
can see the strength which we have." |
| Kluivert:
"Influence Antic incredible" |
26 Feb 2003 |
After
the removal of Barcelona trainer van Gaal, striker Patrick Kluivert was
quite apprehensive to give any comments regading his dismissal and after
Barcelona's first win under their new trainer Antic, Kluivert was
once again not prepared to comment, saying it was to soon to see if
Antic's influence was working. Antic has now been three weeks in the
saddle and for Kluivert that seems to be enough to have convinced the
Dutch international and he has now described Raddy Antic's positive
influence on the team as incredible.
"People are wondering if Antic's arrival has influenced the change in
fortune of the club - I
can answer: yes!
The new trainer must be given credit
for his contribution, but it is only because the players have responded to
the new figure that controls the team. He added, The ideas of Antic have
been received well by the players. He seems to know what we love as
players and puts it into practice very quickly, which is very good news
for all the club." |

26 Feb 2003 |

Celtic's Dutch winger Bobby Petta, who played an enormous part in
Celtic's 2001 treble-winning side and who recently penned a new long term
deal with the club has stated in an interview with the Scottish daily
newspaper 'The Scottish Daily Mail' that he is not satisfied with being
Celtic's fourth choice striker behind Alan Thompson, Steve Guppy,Jamie
Smith and will look for a new club. In the interview Petta's maanger
Halliday said:
'Bobby is obviously frustrated at not being able to win a place in
the Celtic team. The irony is that the player only signed a new long-term
deal in the summer. But he is a proud lad and is not the type to just sit
there taking the money. 'I think he would rather get himself a new club
and we are actively trying to find him one."

| Koeman
tells Bergkamp "Clean your act up" |
26 Feb 2003 |
|
Ajax trainer Ronald Koeman has told Arsenal striker and ex-Dutch
international Dennis Bergkamp to clean up his act. Koeman was disappointed
in Bergkamps conduct during Ajax's first confrontation with the Gunners
last week and is hoping that Bergkamp will be a little better behaved this
evening in the Amsterdam Arena.
Koeman: "Twice I was not very happy with him. Two tackles were far
from clean. One was on Tomas Galasek in the first half and the other led
to a bit of a fight with Andy Van Der Meyde after the break. Neither
was according to the rules. Dennis was irritated with himself and
frustrated with the way the game was going. That's
the trouble with strikers. When they try to tackle, it's usually a bad
one. But, in the end, it's not a problem for us - it's a problem for
him."
Koeman added: "It will be up to the referee to draw the line. I'm
sure Dennis will be keyed up again on his return here but he's a very
experienced player and he should be able to handle these sorts of
situations."

| United
win, Van Nistelrooy break records |
26 Feb 2003
|
Ruud van Nistelrooy's Manchester United are through to the quarter-finals of
the Champions League for a record seventh successive season after
beating Italian League leaders Juventus. Sir Alex Ferguson had decided not
to make this game his priority of the week. He was more interested in
Sunday's date with Liverpool in Cardiff and rested some of hisstar players
knowing United needed only a point from their final three Euro games and so
it was that Van the Man was
forced to sit out the first 45 minutes of the game.
Man of the match last night was Bryan
Giggs, whose poor form in recent weeks and his 'Miss of the Season' against
Arsenal in the FA Cup fifth round have given rise to speculations that this
would be his final season at Old Trafford. Giggsd the score for United in
the 15th minute, rounding off a Veron pass. 4 minutes before the break the
Welshman was again on target but this time with a beauty. Giggs
picked up the ball wide on the left and made an incredible run down the flank.
Juventus's defenders were left standing as he soared down the wing and, by the
time Giggs reached the edge of the penalty area, his mind was made up. He
took a couple of extra strides to the right and shot back across Gianluigi
Buffon into the bottom corner. It was another special goal to add to his
collection and ensured United were on easy street.
Shortly after the break Giggs suffered a thigh strain and was forced to make
way for Ruud van Nistelrooy who then completed the destruction job in the 63rd
minute, tapping in a rebound from close range for a record breaking 7th
consecutive Champions League goal breaking
the record he set last year. United were never seriously troubled
after that.

| Seedorf
attacks press |
24 Feb 2003 |
Dutch
international midfielder Clarence Seedorf has attacked the press after
his side's match against Torino last Saturday was abandoned. Speaking
onAC Milan's website Seedorf said:
"I don't know who is to blame but we are all implicated: players,
officials and media. Papers only care about increasing their copies, so
polemics are fuelled in them. I don't want to blame anyone in particular
but I hope my words won't be forgotten early tomorrow. I want to make
every football insider aware of these problems.
"We all must become more responsible. In Italy I have seen a radical
change: if a paper was credible in the past, now it reports 90 per cent
lies. It's a delicate matter: I just think that we are all involved. We
had to stop playing when I sent the ball out: at that point Torino players
had to face their supporters and talk with them." |

first victory of the second phase of games in the Spanish top flight.

police stop Seedorf hat-trick |
23 Feb 2003
|
|
Clarence Seedorf bagged two goals for AC
milan yesterday in their away match against Torino but was was unable to
complete a hat-trick after referee Palanca was forced to abandon the match in
the 63rd minute after crowd violence forced the police to use teargas which
later fell onto the pitch making it impossible for the game to continue. The
incident will undoubtedly have dire consequences for Torino and they can expect
a harsh punishment. After Filip Inzaghi put Milan into the lead with an
early goal and Seedorf had increased the gap to 3 goals via a fantastic
free-kick and rounding an impressive run, the home-fans tried to invade the
pitch, resulting in the police having to use tear gas.

23 Feb 2003 |
| Roy
Makaay was once again on target for Deportivo La Coruna last night,
bagging two goals in his side's 6-0 whipping of Alaves at the Riazor
Stadium. Makaay was not the only one bagging the goals last night for
Deportivo as Diego Tristan grabbed an impressive hat-trick for the
home-side. Makaay's top scorers position in the Primera league is still
not not in jeopardy having scored 16 Primera goals this season, 4 more
than second placed Kahveci. |
| Kluivert
prefers English fans to Spanish |
23 Feb 2003 |
|
Dutch international Patrick Kluivert has
stated in an interview with the BBC that he cannot rule out a future move
to the English Premiership and that the biggest motivation to move to
England were the English fans who, other that in Spain, stick with club
through thick and thin. Kluivert: "However if there was one
major reason for me to go to England it would be the spectators. "I
am feeling very good here but You never know, one day I might come and
join the Premiership. The difference in England is they keep on supporting
you, whatever the results. Here if you go 1-0 down they don´t cheer you
on they get on your back and jeer you. I´ve played against English clubs
in England and the fans there are terrific as they encourage their teams
to come from behind, they don´t go down on them." Although
Kluivert says he is happy to remain in Spain for the time being.
Manchester United and Arsenal have both stated that they would love to
make use of his services. |
| Bergkamp
travels off to play in Amsterdam |
23 Feb 2003 |
|
Arsenal trainer Arsene Wenger has revealed
that he is ready to "take a chance" on Dennis Bergkamp
travelling to Arsenal's Champions League tie at Ajax next week. Holland's
non flying Dutchman has only played in one Champions League away match
this season due to his flying phobia and Wenger has always been opposed to
Bergkamp traveling off the continent by car as this is usually far to
tiring for the player. However, after last Tuesday's confrontation with
Ajax Wenger knows that he wil have to field his strongest squad otherwise
their dreams of winning the Champions League could go up in smoke.
Wenger:"I usually send Dennis to Holland as he played in Eindhoven as
well," I will let him go
quite early so he can rest over there. It is not ideal but the game is
big, he is used to travelling to Holland and I will take a chance." |

23 Feb 2003 |
|
Ronald de Boers late header in Rangers 4th
round Scottish FA Cup tie against battling Ayr was enough to clinch a
fifth round spot. Rangers had to dig deep for the victory and only were 11
minutes away from adding an unwanted replay to their hectic schedule until
Steven Thompson beat his marker on the right and sent over a perfect cross
for de Boer to head in. |
| Barcelona
with 5 Dutchmen beat Real Betis |
23 Feb 2003 |
|
Barcelona continued their new found élan
under new trainer Antic with an excellent 4-0 victory over Real Betis
yesterday with three goals coming from Javier Saviola, plus a fourth from
Cocu.
Although Barcelona looked likely to disperse of it's Dutch contingent of
players after the removal of Louis van Gaal, Barcelona still fielded 5
Dutch players last night , Patrick Kluivert, Frank de Boer, Phillip Cocu
Boudewijn Zenden and out of favor Michael Reiziger. After the match
ntic said:
"Two weeks ago everyone was talking about relegation for
Barcelona. But we have managed to turn things around and relieve some of
the tension around the club. I am happy
with the performance. We are playing good football. The players know when
to speed things up, or drop their rate. They are controlling games
well." Antic if had time to
joke, "We must be getting close to a Guinness Book world record for
Barca - three clean-sheets in the last three games!"
Saviolad in the first minute for Barcleona, converting a Kluivert
flick, following a Reiziger throw-in. In the 5th minute of the match Cocu
doubled the score after heading in a Filiperscu corner. Just before the
break Betis's goalkeeper Toni Prats half cleared a Xavi free-kick leaving
Saviola to score a lucky second goal. In the second half Saviola increased
the lead to 4-0 after rounding off a Michael Reiziger cross. |
| Numan
contract extension not ruled out |
22 Feb 2003 |
| Arthur
Numan. who announced earlier this week that he was
planning to hang up his boots at the end of the season after failing
to agree to the conditions for a one-year extension with Glasgow Rangers,
could well turn back on his decision. Rangers offered Numan a new
contract extension but on reduced terms. Numan refused and said he would
rather retire than accept the new offer.
His manager has now indicated that this was an emotional on the spur of
the moment decision and that there is still anng for a compromise
regarding a wage cut. Rangers manager Alex McLeish has also
stated that he has not given up hope of retaining the Dutch international
defender. McLeish said: "I have never ruled anything out. I know
Arthur has said he is not going to stay at Rangers, but you never know.
You can never say never. I would like Arthur to stay and he knows that I
am satisfied and comfortable that, if he doesn't, he will still give
everything for the jersey until the end of the season - and he's the man
in possession at the moment. Arthur has been an integral part of the team
and hopefully he will have some more success before he leaves
Rangers." |
| Van
Nistelrooy C.L.'s Mr Record Smasher |
21 Feb 2003 |
|
Some fact and figures published on
the website form the daily newspaper 'Algemene Dagbald' point out that
Ruud van Nistelrooy is currently becoming the Champions League Mr Record
Smasher.
Van Nstelrooy has already scored nine times in the Champions League this
season and that is just one behind the record he set last year. With
Manchester more or less on roses for the next round, Van Nistelrooy will
undoubtedly create a new record.
Van Nstelrooy's goal against Juventus earlier in the week, was his sixth
Champions League goal in a row, equaling the Champions League record that
he set last year. The possibility of improving that record is also not
unthinkable.
Van Nistelrooy has scored in total 27 Champions league goals, just one
less than Patrick Kluivert but still 11 behind Real Madrid striker Raúl;
so; as the Champions League all time scorer he still has someway to go.
Nonetheless, one day that record will surely follow.

Burik bicycle-kicks winner in UEFA Cup |
21 Feb 2003 |
|
German side Hertha BSC booked a 3-2 UEFA Cup win over Portuguese side
Boavista thanks to a spectacular injury time goal from Dutch defender Dick
van Burik. In spite of van Burik's winning bicycle-kick goal, Hertha's
Dutch trainer Huub Stevens was still disappointed in the result believing
that the two Portuguese goals did not reflect the game. The referee was
forced to stop the game at one stage after a half naked peace demonstrator
ran across the pitch with the slogans 'Stop Bush' and 'No War' sprawled over
his back and stomach.

Nistelrooy wants Vieri as partner |
20 Feb 2003 |
|
Dutch international striker Ruud van Nistelrooy has asked United's boss
sir Alex Ferguson that he would love to form an up-front partnership
with Christian Vieri, saying:
"People ask me who is the best - Van Nistelrooy,
Thierry Henry or Vieri? If I exclude myself, then my list of the best strikers, in order,
would be Thierry Henry, Vieri, Filippo Inzaghi and Hernan Crespo. But if you ask me about a partnership, then Christian Vieri is the
player I'd love to play alongside one day. We would be the perfect pairing - and calling us 'Double V' would
also be pretty cool. Van Nistelrooy also stated that the time has come for
him to start putting some silverware in the cupboard.: "The time has come for me. I am absolutely desperate to
win an important trophy. I don't mind if it is the Premiership or the Champions League,
though I want both. But no matter how much hard work it means, I must win
one of them.
Van Nistelrooy also said Barcelona striker Patrick Kluivert often pulls his
leg about his lack of trophies, saying: " Patrick Kluivert pulls my leg when we are with Holland
and says Where were you when I was winning the European Cup with Ajax?
and I have to hit back at him and say:
Where will you be when I
win the Champions League at Old Trafford this season? Jokes are all very well, though. I just pray it comes true this
time."

Nistelrooy scores C.L. goal for United |
20 Feb 2003 |
|
Ruud van Nistelrooy's Manchester United are are nestled at the top of
Group D after a 2-1 win at home to Juventus flu-ravaged squad. The match
went ahead despite Juventus' plea to Uefa to postpone the clash due to their
Flue empidemic but the UEFA were not willing to head their request. Wes
Brownd for United, heading in a David Beckham corner.
The early set-back could have further demoralised the Serie A leaders, but
to their credit their heads didn't drop, although United could be criticized
for not trying hard enough to push home their early advantage. In the 22nd
minute, Juventus nearly drew level but Pavel Nedved's effort clipped the
outside of the post, acting as a reminder the United hadn't bagged the game
yet. On the hour mark United should have doubled their lead after goalie
Chimenti pulled down Ruud van Nistelrooy. Because The ball fell into the
path of Paul Scholes the referee allowed play to go on, but the
midfielder somehow only managed to hit the post in front of angoal.
4 minutes later United were again on target to clinch the three points after
Juventus player Edgar Davids played van Nistelrooy through with a wonderful
floated pass and the Dutchman toe-punted the ball into the back of the net,
for his sixth consecutive Champions League goal in row for equaling his old
Champions League record.
2 minutes into injury Juventus scored a late consolation goal after United
goalkeeper Barthez failed to stop an innocent cross from Nedved.

return to PSV for Arthur Numan |
19 Feb 2003 |
|
Arthur Numan has confirmed that we will be leaving Ranger this Summer
after failing to reach an agreement for a new contract extension.
Numan hasn't completely closed the books on a new Ranger deal and has
stated that if Rangers come with a new improved offer then he is still
willing to renegotiate. However the chance of that happening is very
unlikely according to Numan's agent Joop Korevaar: "The
difference between what we were asking and the offer was too big.
Numan has now also stated that he is not planning to return to the Dutch
Ere Divisie which puts an end to all the
speculations of him returning to PSV or a making the move to Feyenoord.
Speaking in the Dutch daily newspaper the "Algemeen Dagbald"
Numan said: "It doesn't work out when a player tries to re-build his
career in the country he came from. I
have looked at Jorg Albertz's return to Germany with Hamburg and learned a
lesson from that move." |
| Cocu
and Kluivert score for Barcelona |
18 Feb 2003 |
Two
goals by Philip Cocu and Patrick Kluivert and a third from Javier Saviola
have insured Barcelona a 3-0 win against Inter Milan and given Barcelona
their 11th consecutive Champions League victory in a row, which is now a
new record. Barcelona dominated the game from beginning till end and the
fans were treated to some real football, something they have been missing
for some time now. Barcelona's new coach Antic said after the match:
"The team was perfect in every aspect, But this win was worth more
than just three points. You have to excuse me for being so ecstatic, but
everything we touched seemed to turn to gold. We are at the beginning of a
great run and I really cannot see any limits with the way the team is
playing. I can only congratulate the players and say that were all
magnificent. They all played with bravery and were perfect.
We have now created a record in the competition, but that does not mean
that it stops here and that we will not go to Milan next week looking to
win.

one more year with Arsenal |
18 Feb 2003 |
| Dennis Bergkamp,

| Numan
to leave Rangers this Summer |
18 Feb 2003 |
Arthur Numan looks set to make a return to PSV now that
talks aimed at extending the Dutch international defenders stay in
Scotland have broken down. Although Numan had agreed to accept a wage cut
and Rangers boss Alex McLeish was keen to hold onto him, Rangers financial
position has forced them to let the ex-PSVer go.
Numan revealed: "Everyone knows the situation at the club and I
was willing to take a pay cut but the gap between what the club offered and
what I wanted was too big so I have decided to leave in the summer. There
would be no better way of ending my time here than with a championship medal
- and maybe even more.
I know how much
the title means to everyone at Rangers and I would love to play a part in
bringing it back to Ibrox."

| Hasselbaink
goal helps Chelsea in FA Cup |
17 Feb 2003 |
Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink played a crucial role yesterday in helping
Chelsea book a place in the FA Cup quarter-finals against arch rivals
Arsenal.
Chelsea were never in danger of losing yesterdays FA cup clash with Stoke,
dominating from begin till end. Nonetheless it took them until the 51st
minute before Hasselbaink sidefooted them ahead . Ex-Ajax winger Jesper
Gronkjaer clinched it 15 minutes from time. Chelsea boss Ranieri stated
after the match that he was not worried that Stoke would kick Chelsea out of
the cup. saying: "I was never worried that we wouldn't win, even though
we had a lot of respect for Stoke.
"I am delighted with the performance. There was a good attitude and I
think we have shown a lot of character this season."
Chelsea were beaten 2-0 by their next opponent Arsenal in last year's
final but this hasn't diminished Chelsea's Boss Claudio Ranieri to state
that he believes his team can knock the holders out of the cup, saying:
"Sooner or later, we'll beat them. We won't always draw or lose against
them."

Sociadad lose to Betis |
17 Feb 2003 |
|
In spite of a number of good saves Sander Westerveld's Real Sociadad
lost two valuable points in their quest for winning the Spanish league title
after being beaten by a controversial 90th minute penalty from Fernando to
give Betis a 3-2 win over Sociedad. Betis went into the lead in
the 12th minute when Fernando headed home Fernando Varela cross.

minutes later Nihat was again on target, putting Sociedad ahead. Just
a couple of minutes later Sander Westerveld made a fine save from
Denilson and in the 84th minute Westerveld pulled off another great
stop from a Marcos Assuncao free-kick, but was unable to stop Iulian
Filipescu from scoring with an obscure overhead kick for the 2-2. Betis
pushed forward and in the 90th minute won a controversial spot-shot after
Dani theatricals convinced the referee that he had been fouled by Igor
Jauregui. The Sociedad man was sent-off for protesting, and Fernando
converted from the spot. After the match Sociedad trainer Raynald
Denouiex said, "I am not surprised by the penalty, because it doesn't
surprise me given the things that have happened to us in recent games. If
someone wants to ask me this question then please do - but I cannot comment
on whether I think someone doesn't want us to win the La Liga this
season."
Betis trainer Victor Fernandez saw the incident differently, saying:
"For me, it was a penalty. In fact, we have had many fouls in or just
outside the area which were not given, so I think that one was due."
Although Sociada missed out on the chance toup a big gap at the top
they were still at able to hold onto their two point lead after second placed Real
Madrid lost their second match of the season to lowly placed Osasuna

34 year old former Ajax defender Frank Verlaat whose contract with German
side Werder Bremen runs out this summer has still to decide his future. At
present he has been unable to agree a new contract extension with Bremen
after refusing their last offer and failing to tell the club on what terms
he would be prepared to stay. Verlaat was hoping that his recent
performances and the clubs recent success in the German FA Cup would give
Bremen the incentive to come up with a more realistic offer but Bremen's
managing director has stated that Verlaat has received an offer he cannot
refuse and that if he is not satisfied with the offer then he should come up

Dutch trainer Arie Haans's first test case

the most attacking side last night Haan's Asian army were equally as dangerous
as the Brazilians with there razor sharp counters with nice performances coming
from Liu Yun and Sun Jihai.

de Boer ready to return to Holland |
10 Feb 2003
|
Frank de Boer has stated in an interview
with the ANP that he doubts very much indeed if Barcelona will offer him a new
contract when his present one runs out this summer. In the Spanish media
speculations have already begun over the future of Louis van Gaal's Dutch colony
and many papers are now suggesting that all of the Dutch players, except Patrick
Kluivert, will be asked to find employment elsewhere this summer. De Boer said
in the interview that if Barcelona refuse to offer him a contract extension then
he will be happy to return to Holland to finish off his career in the Ere
Divisie. De Boer was already brought into connection with a return to Ajax last
summer when Real Madrid looked certain to snap up Rumanian international
defender, Chritian Chivu. As the deal never materialized De Boer stayed put with
Barcleona.
De Boer: "I'm taking into consideration that its now finished. I'm
quitefor a return to the Dutch competition. After this season I want to
carry on for at least another year, after that I will just take it from year

| Hasselbaink
gambles to help ease pressure |
10 Feb 2003 |
After
last month's controversy in which Ruud van Nistelrooy was misquoted when
he was said to have stated that Manchester United players gambled for
large sums of money to pass the time away, now Dutch international striker
Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink has got involved in the question by stating in an
interview in the British daily paper 'London Evening Standard' that he
visited casinos to help him relax from the pressure of playing football.
Although the translations of van Nistelrooy's story in the Dutch
weekly football magazine 'Voetbal International" was grossly
inaccurate, it would appear that where there's smoke there's some some
kind of fire going on and even former England and Arsenal skipper Tony
Adams has stated that Premiership players have turned to
gambling for their thrills because clubs have stamped down on drink and
drugs.
In London Evening Standard Hasselbaink "If I want to gamble 100
pounds, 1,000 pounds or 50,000 pounds, then it´s not a problem. As long
as I don´t come and ask to borrow money then I´m not bothering
anyone," Doctors, lawyers and newspaper publishers go to casinos, so
what´s the problem with footballers? To say I lose 1.1 million pounds and
don´t care, and have no respect for the money I earn, is a cruel thing to
do. It´s nobody´s business how much money I´ve lost. Yes, I went to the
casino and will go again in the future."
Hasselbaink is not the only Chelsea star that has resorted to gambling as
Chelsea´s Iceland striker Eidur Gudjohnsen admitted to the media that
lost the staggering sum of 400.000 pounds last month in a gambling spree. |

Ex-PSV trainer Sir Bobby Robson was
absolutely livid at referee Neale Barry for his decision that led to
Newcastle United's French midfielder Laurent Robert being sent off after
receiving his second yellow card. Robert
was given his second yellow card of the afternoon for preventing
Dennis Bergkamp from taking a quick free-kick. Robson said that it was an
enormously harsh decision especially as Dennis Bergkamp had no one to give
the ball to. Robson also added that Bergkamp's behaviour was 'spoiling'.
Arsenal's trainer Arsene Wenger said that the referee made the correct
decision saying " "The referee had no choice because he already
had one yellow card and when you have free-kick against you, you must let
the team with the free-kick play the ball."

|
Ruud van Nistelrooy's 27th goal of the
season was not enough to help Manchester United beat Manchester City
yesterday as United grossed in missed chances. After the match Manchester
United boss sir Alex Ferguson was livid at referee Alan Wiley after his disputable
decisions had helped City force a 1-1 draw with rivals United. Ferguson
was angry that Mikaël Silvestre should not have been penalised for handball
that preceded the free-kick that allowed Goater to score with a
twisting header. Ferguson
was also bitter about the moment, when David Sommeil clipped David Beckham's
right ankle inside the penalty area only to be spared by the referee.
"These are decisive moments. First and foremost, it was not a handball.
Secondly, I've seen the David Beckham incident and it was a clear-cut

the decision influenced the result in the end They have scored from two

| Hamberg
replaces Versleijen at Al-Jazira |
07
Feb 2003
|
ABU DHABI, Feb. 7: Dutchman Jan
Versleijen saw the recent league poor run of Al-Jazira costing his job,
the capital outfits appointing fellow countryman Piet Hamberg as the new
manager late Thursday night. Versleijen was impressive in turning Al-Jazira
into a force to be reckoned with in the United Arab Emirates last
season, steering them to the second
place of the table standing behind champions Al-Ain, in his first-ever
season as a club coach.
The side were defeated 3-1 by Al-Wahda in their latest league outing on
Wednesday, a negative result shooting them down at the 6th spot on the
table standings with 20 points, trailing pace-setters Al-Wahda by a
massive 13-point mark.
"We have no history in changing managers during the league season,
but we believe time is up for us to re-establish themselves back again
as one of the leading players in domestic league action," said club
vice-president Saeed Hamad Al-Suwaidi in the press conference attended
by the new manager.
"We are not going to make a complete reshuffling at the squad
level, notably as the transfer window will be closed on February 8.
"This being said, we will provide Mr. Hamberg with all the
necessary help needed in order to enhance the club chances of gaining
better results in the remainder of the league championship," he
concluded.
Hamberg, 49, who remained tight-lipped after the official signing,
played at FC Groningen (youth) and became professional at NEC Nijmegen
in 1972 where he played till 1974. His next clubs were Wageningen
1974-76 and FC
Utrecht 1976-78, before he moved to Swiss outfits Servette Geneve,
playing his club football till 1980.
Ajax got interested in this versatile player and signed him at the start
of the 1980/81 season, where he played till 1983.
Piet became a youth trainer at the Amsterdammers in 1983 till 1990,
where he saw all the talents from Bergkamp till Davids, Kluivert and Van
der Sar. In the summer of 1995 he moved back to the Swiss
mountains to become member of the coaching staff at Grasshopper-Club
Zurich (till December 1996). In the summer of 1997 he became national
coach of the Youth Team of
Saudi Arabia (till the summer of 1999), before joining Libyan side Al-Ahly
Benghazi from July 1999 till December 1999.

first test case is against Athletic Bilbao in Camp
Nou on Sunday. Kluivert said:
"If we win games then we will know that he is the best man for the job. If things do not work out on the field and the bad results continue then
we will be back to where we started. It is too soon to tell how training will change us, but we are doing a lot
more physical work."Kluivert also stated that he dare not think about the
possibility of Barcelona dropping down a division saying:
"I have not even thought about it I always think
positively. I think that in the next few games we will improve and will win over all
the people who have been criticising us recently."

Overmars has already admitted that he has received offers from

06
Feb 2003
|
|
Ruud van Nistelrooy has stated that he still feels embarrassed about
last November's defeat by rivals Manchester City saying "What happened that day still hurts,"
and is determined to make amends for that poor performance this weekend
as United meet City in the all Manchester clash. "It is a league game which we have to win but at the back of our
minds we know we lost against them this season and we want to go out
there and show them what we really can do." Van Nistelrooy said he
was confident that his side will be on the winning end claiming that
United are back in form. "Our build-up
play is marvellous and the team are creating plenty of chances, which I
try to finish. The games are coming pretty quickly now but that is great news
because we all feel so good."

Boer heads Rangers into Cup Final |
05
Feb 2003
|
|
Ronald de Boer has put Glasgow Rangers into a Scottish League Cup
final after heading in fellow Dutchman Fernando Ricksens's
back-header. Ranger will now either Celtic or Dundee United in the
final. Alex McLeish views on the match were: "In the first
half we really dominated but we were still only a goal up. I said that
at half-time and I knew that Hearts had to show some kind of reaction in
the second half. They had a wee bit more pressure but we couldn't put
them away and the resilience of the defence was good when you consider
the presence of the Hearts team. At 1-0 it is never done. I suppose you
can get a wee bit agitated but I tried to get the message on at them to
keep their composure as Hearts had started to pass the ball a bit. They
unnerved us a wee bit so it was important we kept our composure. We
probably didn't start the second half the way we did the first but I
knew that Hearts had to show something else in the second half as they
couldn't start the second half as slowly as they did the first."

Ruud
van Nistelrooy's early second half goal against Birmingham last night
was enough to earn Manchester United their sixth consecutive Premiership
win. Van Nistelrooy nearlyd the score in the first half after
Beckham crossed from the right and Scholes fired against the
woodwork and the rebound came a whisker length close to the onrushing
Van Nistelrooy. In the second half Roy Keane crossed to Silvestre
who passed onto Van Nistelrooy. Although the Dutch international was
standing with his back to the goal somehow he managed to hold off a
challenge and turn for the low shot beyond Nico Vaesen.

| Van
Gaal pay-off settlement agreed |
28
Jan 2003
|
Louis
van Gaal has now officially left Barcelona after both parties reached
an agreement over the compensation to be payed to the Dutch trainers.
Van Gaal stated that he still belives he was the best manager for the club:
"I was the most suitable manager for Barcelona, but the best thing for
the club is that we separate because Barça is run by the people."
Gaspart, who has alway stood behind Van Gaal and whose own position is in
jeopardy, said that he still thinks it was the right decision to bring Van
Gaal back to the club saying: "I do not regret what I did in
summer. If we were there again I would still do it," he said. Although
coach Toño de la Cruz will be taking over as trainer of the first team, it
is expected that Charly Rexach
will return for the rest of the season. |

Surprise, Louis van Gaal sacked |
28
Jan 2003
|
Barcelona
have announced that Louis Van Gaal will be leaving Barcelona as soon as
both parties have agreed to the compensation sum. Barcelona's
treasurer, Ramon Salabert is offering Van Gaal, who still has
nearly three years left on his contract, £2.7
million compensation, Van Gaal is believed to be demanding £4
million. In spite of Barcelona having won all of their
Champions League matches so far this season Van Gaal's departure comes as
no surprise and has looked inevitable after last Sunday's 2-0 defeat
against Celta de Vigo sending Barcelona to within three points of the
relegation zone. Director Xavier Perez Farguell explained the
situation after a meeting this evening: "We have been discussing what
action to take regarding Van Gaal's position. We have spoken to him and we
have reached an agreement amongst ourselves and with Van Gaal to find an
amicable way of ending our relationship. The
objective, once this matter is solved, is to fix the situation of the
first team of Barcelona,"
It is the first time in his career that Van Gaal
has been sacked by a club. |
| Peter
Hoekstra scores for Stoke |
27
Jan 2003
|
|
Ex-Ajax winger Peter Hoekstra helped Stoke book a place in the fifth
round of the FA Cup after scoring Stoke's third goal in their 3-0 win over
Bournmouth. Chris Iwelumo scored a brace for Stoke. After Tardif
had brought down Brynjar Gunnarsson referee Mike Ryan had no choice but to
show the red card. Althouogh
Iwelumo missed, referee Ryan order a re-take because Stoke players
had encroached into the box. Iwelumo
kept his nerve and shot the second penalty low past Stewart's left hand.
Stoke made certain of a passage into
the last 16 six minutes into the second half.Greenacre forced the ball
over from the left and Iwelumo won a battle in the six-yard box with Jason
Tindall to force the ball home. Towards
the end of the game the tiredness took it's toll on Bournmouth's 10 men
and with nine minutes left Greenacre's pass sent Peter Hoekstra through on
the right to drill the third past Stewart from 12 yards. |
| Louis's
Barcelona loses once again. |
26
Jan 2003
|
Louis
van Gaal's position as Barcelona trainer has become even more precarious
after his side lost 2-0 to Celta and the next 24 hours will see if van
Gaal is out of a job. In the first half both team were in balance and the
scoreline could of gone either way with Jesuli hitting the
post and Bonano saving a Gustavo López penalty at one end, and Xavi also
hitting a post and Cavallero making an important double save from Saviola
at the other. Five minutes after the break Jesuli out the homeside
ahead. A few minutes later Sylvinho slammed in the 2-0 winner past
Bonano to give his side their first win in the new year and keep
them in sixth spot. Barcelona end the first half of the season only three
points above the relegation zone.
Barcelona's president Francesc Closa insisted that no decision has yet
been made as to Louis van Gaal future and that the board would
be board meeting later to discuss the whole situation. When asked if this
was Van Gaal's last game at the club he refused to answer, saying only:
"Emotions are high and it's not the right time to make such a
decision. In the morning we'll sit down and analyse the situation and
decide what is best for Barcelona. When everyone is calmer, we'll talk
about what decisions we have to make." |

Ruud van Nistelrooy was Manchester United's man of the match this
afternoon with two goals and two assist in the FA Cup fourth round tie as
United whipped West Ham by six goals to nil. Van Nistelrooy's first goal
came after he showed exceptional control and technique on the edge of the
area, cleverly slipping pass Breen and Dailly with his trickery before
beating James with a sublime shot. Eight minutes later
Van Nistelrooy hammered in the 5-0 after picking up a Beckham pass
that went through Ian Pearce's legs.
Substitute Ole Gunnar Solskjaer snapped up the 6-0, slotting home a Van
Nistelrooy cross. |
| Westerveld
grabs points for Sociedad |
26
Jan 2003
|
Sander
Westerveld was once again in blinding form last night after stopping a
penalty and a series of wonderful saves. Due to the goalkeeper's
performance Real Sociedad won 2-1 at Atletico Madrid yesterday and
extended their lead at the top of La Liga to six points. Last
week Sanderveld was also Sociedad's man of the match after stopping a
penalty and with his current form Westerveld is the most likely goalie
to replace the injured Edwin van der Sar in Holand's next European
qualification match against the Czech republic on March 29th, should
van der Sar still be out of action. The sides went in goalless at
half-time, although the scoreline belied an action-packed first period.
Tayfun Korkutd for the visitors with an early second half goal.
Although Luis Garcia levelled, Darko Kovacevic grabbed the winner fifteen
minutes into the second act. Sociedad's trainer Reynald Denoueix said
after the match : "It's very pleasing to continue playing so well
after the winter break. It's important we continue in this positive frame
of mind. We didn't play well in the first-half, but improved for the
second. We played very well after the break."
Atletico midfielder Emerson had a different view. stating that the results
was unfair."The result was unjust because we had more chances to
score and also missed a penalty. We deserved to win. I am happy because we
played well, even if the result wasn't the right one |
| Barcelona
buy players but not Hasselbaink |
25
Jan 2003
|
Although
Barcelona have stated they have faith in the current squad and that they
have no intentions of buying anymore players, Barcelona's scouts have been
spotted monitoring NAC's Hungarian goalkeeper Gabor Babos. Babos
has already stated that he intends leaving NAC at the end of the season .
Barcelona are also in the market for Argentine wing back Juan Pablo Sorin.
Lazio still haven't paid Sorin's last club Cruzeiro for the transfer fee
and a cut-price move to Barcelona is being mentioned making a link-up with
fellow with compatriots Juan Roman Riquelme and Javier Saviola possible.
With Hasselbaink on the top of Van Gaal's wanted list it raises the
question as to who is pulling the reigns at the club and whether or not
Louis van Gaal has anymore say in the matter. It
has also been reported that Barcelona's board will be meeting on Monday to
discuss the future of trainer Louis van Gaal. The Spanish media suggests
that the only drawback to dismissing Van Gaal is the £4 million
compensation. |

24
Jan 2003
|
|
Rangers' Dutch forward Ronald de Boer has confirmed
brother Frank's statement that he will hang up his boots after the
Euro 2004 finals in Portugal. In an interview with the daily newspaper
'The Daily Record' De Boer said:
"I hope to maintain my good form until my contract expires in the
summer of 2004/ By then I will be 34 and hopefully I will be able play for
Holland in the European Championship in Portugal. It would seem like a
nice age to finish my playing career. Having played at the highest level
since he was a teenager. After 17 pre-seasons it definitely has an effect
on your body but I am feeling very good at this moment.
I think that, as a striker, by the age of 34 you have seen your best days.
I do not want to continue playing only to find myself struggling and
seeing other players running past me. Nor would I wish to drop down a
level and join a club that was not of such a high standing as
Rangers."

| Kluivert
defends Louis van Gaal |
24
Jan 2003
|
Barcelona's
Dutch striker Patrick Kluivert has stood up for Louis Van Gaal by
saying that it would be unjust to dismiss the trainer and that the team is
responsible for the recent string of poor performances. Kluivert:
"Everyone has spoken about this (the dismissal of Van Gaal), but for
me it would be unjust. When I began to play professional football it was
Van Gaal who developed me into a first team player. I
have learned a lot from him and it would hurt me if he was
dismissed."
Meanwhile Barcelona 'B' trainer Enrique Costas name has begun to circulate
amongst the rumour mongers as a potential candidate but the trainer has
stated he has received no contact from club officials and that it was all
once again speculation.
Costa: "Nobody from the club has said anything to me about this. I am
working with Barca B and I'm happy, trying to help the club by producing
players for the first team. I am only
interested in speaking about Barca B, nothing else." |
| Gaspart's
faith in Van Gaal diminishing ? |
23
Jan 2003
|
| It
has been reported that Barcelona's president and
Louis van Gaal's most fervent supporter Joan Gaspart, is contemplating
whether or not he should still continue to support the Dutch trainer.
During talks that were held yesterday between Barcelona directors, Gaspart
and Barcelona's treasurer Ramon Salabert Van Gaal's position was discussed
and possible ways in which the club can reduce the trainers six million
euro compensation claim if he were indeed to be fired. Salabert,
believes that the club will not have to pay the compensation because he
"had not fulfilled the objectives" written into the deal.
Barcelona or also said to be looking into how Spanish Premera club
Espanyol managed to sack Juande Ramos earlier this season without having
to pay any compensation. Meanwhile candidate Bern Schuster has laughed off
suggestions that he could be taking over from Van Gaal and tipped
favourite Ronald Koeman has stated that he is staying at Ajax. |
| Wilko
de Vogt unhappy at Sheffield United |
23
Jan 2003
|
|
Sheffield United's Dutch goalkeeper Wilko de Vogt has stated that he
wants to leave the club. De Vogt is dissatisfied with his position and
believes that he has not been given a fair chance to prove himself.
Although Sheffield's trainer Niel Warnock had promised De Vogt he would
get the opportunity to demonstrate his skills. De Vogt is dissatisfied
that Sheffield manager Neil Warnock did not chose to field him when
Untied's Number one goalkeeper Simon Tracey got injured but decided to
bring in a new keeper, Paddy Kenny.
"At the beginning of the season
our first goalkeeper Simon Tracey became injured and I thought I would get
the first team place automatically. But our manager Neil Warnock preferred
to sign a new keeper from outside. He loaned Paddy Kenny from Bury. And
yes, he's really playing superb, I have to say that. He saves every
ball." adding "It's a fantastic club, but not if you don't play.
I have let the manager know I want to leave the club." |

| Another
new name has emerged in Barcelona to take over from Louis van Gaal in case
the criticized Dutchman should have to be replaced. Ex German
international Bern Schuster who is currently trainer of Spanish second
division club Xerez, has been named as potential candidate. The
former Barcelona star has impressed friend and foe with his transformation
of Xerez and has a good relationship with Barcelona's supporters. Reports
in the Spanish media have even suggested that Van Gaal could be dismissed
before the end of the week despite Joan
Gaspart's remarks that Van Gaal's position is safe. |

Jan 2003
|
| The
English Football Association have decided to follow up on the reports
concerning Dennis Bergkamp's alleged elbow jab last Sunday to elbow Lee
Bowyer. Although Bergkamp was quick to deny the allegations there has been
so much controversy that the FA are duty bound to investigate the matter.
An FA spokesman said: "The
FA will await the official's match reports before considering what, if
any, action is to be taken." |
| Louis van Gaal under
pressure |
20
Jan 2003
|
When
trainers fail to produce the right results the gossip starts and the
rumours flow. So with Louis van Gaal's Barcelona just five points away
from the relegation zone here's the latest gossip:
Although Barcelona's chairman Gaspart has stated that he is still standing
by van Gaal, two names have emerged as potential candidates to take over
van Gaal's position should Barcelona lose one of their next two matches,
the tricky away trips to Celta Vigo and Atletico Madrid. According
to the Spanish Football magazine "Sport.es" , should Barcelona
indeed lose then Gaspart is planning to replace van Gaal with either
Radomir Antic or Alberto Zaccheroni .
Former Lazio trainer Zaccheroni told "Controcampo" that he would
be honoured to take over from Gaal and would take any offer into
serious consideration. "If they were interested in me then I would be
honoured, I don't usually like taking over a club mid-season but I would
evaluate the situation closely."
Other sources have suggested that the € 6.000000 payoff that van Gaal
would receive if sacked, to be the main reason why Gaspart is still
backing the trainer. However, Gaspart's last interview on Catalan's
local TV station did not seem to imply that van Gaal's departure was
imminent. "I have confidence in the coach and the players. I hope we
can move things forward from last Sunday. I know many people don´t agree
with my decision regarding van Gaal but I am backing him and the players
should back him as well,". |
| Bergkamp
denies elbow jab |
20 Jan 2003
|
|
Dennis Bergkamp has denied the allegations that he elbow jabbed Lee Bower
during Arsenal's match against West Ham on Saturday. Preceding
Arsenal's second goal, Bergkamp allegedly made arm made contact with Bowyer's face.
West Ham trainer Roeder was angry that the incident escaped the eye of the
referee, saying:
"Everyone in the ground bar the most important person saw that
Bergkamp clearly put his arm in Bowyer's face and pushed him away and to the
ground. The referee couldn't say he didn't see it as he was in a fantastic
position. My gut feeling is that he knows he got that one wrong and that was
the killer blow for us. I wouldn't want Dennis sent off though. He didn't clench his fist.
He had his handand just pushed Bowyer away in the face."
Bergkamp: "It was just an accident. I was protecting the
ball and when I turned round, there was contact with him but I never knew he
was there. What can I say? Of course, there was contact but I didn't intend to
touch him. The referee was close enough to see that. Of course, I feel sorry for West Ham and Lee Bowyer, but there's
nothing else I could have done. Soon after the goal, Lee Bowyer said to me that I'd elbowed him.
But I told him it was an accident and I never knew he was there."

| Van
Gaal says he wants no new players |
19
Jan 2003
|
In
spite of last nights disastrous home defeat and the turmoil under Barca
supporters, Louis van Gaal has promised to remain at Barcelona. Even more
surprising was van Gaal's announcement that he has no intentions of buying
anymore players. 'We've decided that Football Club Barcelona will not sign
any new players because we have confidence in the current squad.'
This statement is in contrast with van Gaal's earlier demands for the club
to buy Jerrel Hasselbaink and also raises the question how last nights
defeat has changed van Gaal's mind, especially as van Gaal stated that his
team played badly:
'We lost tonight in a
manner that is not acceptable, We started badly and then we were playing
11 against 10 and we still couldn't win. Any word I could say about the
game would be one word too many.'
Perhaps van Gaals's announcement that he has no intentions of buying
anymore players is a smokescreen to divert
attention away from last night's defeat or even more likely a means of lowering
the price for Hasselbaink. |

Jan 2003
|
| Manchester
United boss Alex Ferguson who is a fervent admirer of Edgar Davids, has
has once again shown his interest in the Dutch international by sending

Chievo on Sunday. Davids name was linked to Manchester last summer but the
midfielder was not interested in a move. |

Westerveld saves penalty |
19 Jan 2003
|
Sander
Westerveld's Real Sociedad have gone four points clear at the top of the
table after narrowly beating Celta de Vigo 1-0. In an extremely dull
game Sociedad dominated but failed to create any chances and it came as
somewhat of a surprise when Javier de Pedrod the score in the second
half with a lucky 20-yard shot that bounced off the keeper and into the
goal.
A few minutes before the final whistle Gabriel Schurrer was adjudged to
have pushed Celta striker Catanha in the penalty area and without any
hesitation the referee pointed to the spot. However, justice was done when
Holland's reserve goalie Sander Westerveld dived and caught Peter Luccin's
spot shot, earning all three points for Sociedad. |
| Pandemonium
breaks out in Barcelona |
19 Jan 2003
|
Pandemonium
broke out last night after Barcelona's shock 4-2 home defeat by Valencia.
A group of fans vented their
anger when they gate-crashed the directors' box. Journalists and
photographers were also abused and objects were thrown at the VIP area.
Barcelona staff were forced to protect themselves by aiming fire
extinguishers at the hoards. Immediately
after the game Louis van Gaal had a two-hour crisis meeting with club
president Joan Gaspart, director Xavier Perez Farguell and vice-president
Francesc Closa. in a locked dressing room.
After the meeting van Gaal said: "I don't have any excuses about that
performance but I will be leading training on Sunday," adding
It's regretable that many supporters can't keep their emotions under
control.". |
| Embarrassing
2-4 defeat Barcelona |
19 Jan 2003
|
Barcelona,
who were convinced before last night's match that they could still win
this years title, led an embarrassing 4-2 home defeat against Spanish
champions Valencia. Even though the visitors were reduced to 10 men late
in the first-half after Valencia goalkeeper Santiago Canizares had been
given his marching orders for fouling Patrick Kluivert, Valencia remained
better team.
In the first half Pablo Aimar and John Carew gave the visitors a 2-0 lead
before Thiago Motta pulled one back for Barcelona. In the second act
Valencia soared further into the lead with goals from Fabio Aurelio (1-3)
and Francesco Rufete (1-4) to clinch the points for the visitors before a
consolation effort from Patrick Kluivert settled the final score-line at
4-2. |
| Hasslebaink
smokescreen |
18 Jan 2003
|
|
Barcelona have finally officially announced that they haved
negotiations for Chelsea striker Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink and this
now well mean that the Dutch international could be playing his last game
for Chelsea at Old Trafford this afternoon. As
the Chelsea striker has already agreed terms
with Barca and the two clubs are also close to an agreement over the
transfer fee, this has led to suggestions that the deal has been delayed
a couple of days so that in case Barcelona were to lose their next match
against Valencia the transfer would then act as a smokescreen to cool
angry supporters.

| Davids
has journalists removed: Pay cuts ? |
17 Jan 2003
|
Fiery
Dutch international Edgar Davids has once again lived up to his reputation
as Holland's "Mr. Don't fool with me" after having two Italian
journalists removed from a press conference. Davids has been plagued
all season by the two 'Corriere dello Sport 'journalists' who have
constantly misquoted him and angered him with their tabloid lies. At
Juventus's last press conferance Davids had the two journalist
physically removed from the press-room before he made his appearance.
Meanwhile. Davids, whose contract expires next year, has stated that
regarding all the talk about players having to accept wage cuts: "Juventus
is a rich club. I will only take a pay cut if the same applies for
everyone, directors and agents included." |
| Farguell
responsible for Hasselbaink delay |
17 Jan 2003
|
| Barcelona's
Dutch trainer Louis van Gaal is absolutely livid with the clubs director
general Perez Farguell for holding up the transfer of Jerrel Hasselbaink.
During a meeting that was held last night Farguell made it clear to Van
Gaal that he is not yet prepared to sanction the transfer. Farguell still
believes that Barcelona can make an even more lucrative deal than what has
now been offered. Van Gaal and club president Gaspart are both convinced
that the deal could full through if Barcelona try and squeeze more out of
Chelsea and Hasselbaink. Chelsea have reduced their asking price for
Hasselbaink, and their top scorer is prepared to drop his wage demands and
he is also prepared to accept a one year deal instead of a two year deal.
In spite of all this Farguell, who has the final say in the matter,
still refuses to give the green light for the transfer as he believes that
Chelsea will accept less than the £7 million that they are demanding. |
| Ruud
van Nistelrooy grossly misquoted |
17 Jan 2003
|
| Ruud
van Nistelrooy was misquoted in the English Sunday newspaper that stated
he had described the wages of players at United as obscene and
astronomical. After a United spokesman had stated that the translation of
the 'Voetbal International' interview was incorrect and after an
email to FootballNL.com from an astute visitor condemning the translation,
we have compared the translation with the original V.I. story and have
also concluded that van Nistelrooy was grossly misquoted. Our original
FootballNL story of the affair was written after reading the
tabloids translation now after reading the original story we can only say
that van Nistelrooy never described United's wages as being obscene and
astronomical and the reports of card games for large sums of money,
would also appear to have been invented by the tabloid as this story can
also not be found in the original V.I. interview. According to our astute
visitor these misunderstandings originate from United's own website. |

wage-cuts boosts PSV's hopes |
16 Jan 2003
|
| PSV's
hopes of signing Glasgow Rangers defender Arthur Numan have been boosted
after Rangers chairman John McClelland's statement that their best paid
players may soon have to take wage cuts if they wish to remain at the
club. Dutch international Arthur Numan, whose current deal with Rangers
expire this summer, has been targeted by PSV for a return to the club but
Numan has always made it clear that he would first like to hear Rangers
new offer before contemplating a return to Eindhoven. Numan is currently
one of Rangers best paid stars is unlikely to accept a reduced offer from
the club. |
| United
interested in Patrick Kluivert |
16 Jan 2003
|
|
Barcelona's Catalan TV station has reported that Manchester United are
interested in teaming up Ruud van Nistelrooy with fellow Dutch
international, Patrick Kluivert. Although Sir Alex Ferguson is still
annoyed at Kluivert for snubbing a move to United in 1998 the Spanish
station claim that the United boss has asked Barclenona to name the asking
price for the 26 year old striker. Barcelona, who are doing their best to
sign Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink could be tempted to sell £15 million
Kluivert and buy £7.5 million Hasselbaink. Time will tell. |

|
Manchester United and Dutch
international Ruud van Nistelrooy has stated in an interview with the
influential football magazine 'Voetbal International' that the salaries paid to
some of Manchester United's stars as being "astronomical and
obscene" Van Nistelrooy: "Honestly, what we earn is not just a
whacking amount of money by Dutch standards, it's obscene when you compare it to
what is earned in the rest of Europe."
Van Nistelrooy also revealed that United's players regularly play cards for
large sums of money when traveling to away games to help pass the time. A
Manchester United spokesman tempered the strikers remarks in a translation on
their website saying that the players only play for a small stakes.

| Van
Gaal still believes in Primera Liga Title |
14 Jan 2003
|
|
In spite of
a disappointing show against Malaga last weekend Barcelona coach Louis
van Gaal still believes his side can win the Primera Liga title. In the
heated match against Malaga, Barcelona's shot shy forwards were once again
lacking in firepower and unless van Gaal can sign Hasselbaink soon
Barcelona will be lucky to qualify for European footballl.
Even so, Van Gaal refused to be downhearted, saying: "We can
still win the league. We can win it if we win all of our games. If we were
at the top with a 15-point lead, I'd still be saying they could catch
us."

| Reiziger
snubs Manchester City loan deal |
14 Jan 2003
|
| Michael
Reiziger has stated that although very impressed with Manchester
City he is not interested in a loan deal to the club. City trainer
Kevin Keegan who would love to add Reiziger to his squad has already said
that Manchester City's funds are non existent at the moment and that any
money that the club can forge together is to be used to purchase
27-year-old England striker Robbie Fowler from Leeds (£7million). Keegan
was hoping that the Dutch international would be prepared to join the club
on a loan deal until the end of the seaason but after deliberating the
matter Reiziger has decided that this is not in the best interest of his
family. Reiziger: "I will only go to Manchester if I am transferred
permanently, never on a loan. I have a family and cannot go for four
months and then return. My
only desire is to play, but I'm not interested in a loan." Manchester
City treated me very well and I have seen a club with many ambitions.
They will have a new stadium
and want to be classified as soon as possible to play in Europe. I
did not negotiate my contract with Manchester because I was there without
my agent." |
| Don't
hassle the bank for Hasselbaink |
13 Jan 2003
|
|
Louis van Gaal has been told by Barcelona president Joan Gaspart that
the club will have to sell players before they can buy new ones.
Barcelona, who are seriously in need of a central defender and even more
important, a goal-getter are currently
negotiating the transfer of Chelsea striker Jerrel Haaselbaink to the
club. Although Gaspart has given van Gaal the green-light for the
transfer the debt that Chelsea still owe Barcelona for the transfers of
Emmanuel Petit and Boudewijn Zenden cannot be used as part of a deal
between the clubs because the banks have already underwritten the
payments.
With only just two weeks left of the transfer-window Barcelona have stated
that they could be forced to look elsewhere for a new striker.
Meanwhile, Spanish daily newspaper Marca sports, reported on Saturday that
Chelsea's Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink is once again in contact with Barcelona
with only the fine details to clear up before a move to the Catalan
giants, .
The report stated that Hasselbaink is due to join Louis van Gaal's team on
a contract till June 2004 with an option for another year. |

| Louis
van Gaal's Barcelona dropped another few valuable points last night after
drawing 0-0 away to Málaga in a somewhat heated match. Dely Valdés
came closest to scoring in the first half with a shot just wide of the
post, and Barcelona got the better of the second half, with Contreras
saving bravely from Kluivert and Xavi shooting just wide. |
| Numan
rules out move to Feyenoord |
13 Jan 2003
|
|
Glasgow Rangers's Dutch
international Arthur Numan has stated that if he indeed returns to Holland then
he would only consider a move to PSV, thereby ruling out a possible move to
Feyenoord. Numan's contract with the Rangers runs out at the end of this season
and it is still uncertain if Numan will stay in Scotland, make a move to America
or return home to his native homeland. Numan: "I can't say much about my
future plans but I'm certainly not going to Feyenoord. If I should decide to
return to Holland then there is only one option that I would consider, PSV.

| Van
Nistelrooy wants to stay at United |
12 Jan 2003
|
Ruud van Nistelrooy has stated in the News of The World that he wants to
sign a new contract with Manchester United when his present contract runs
out in 2006. This contradicts van Nistelrooy's statements on
PSV's website during the Christmas period when he told PSV Inside magazine that he wanted to return to
PSV in 2005 to finish off his career with the Eindhovenaren.
In today's News of The World
interview van Nistelrooy said "My contract ends on July 1 2006, the day that I become 30 years
old. But if the club wants to give me a new contract, I will be happy to stay longer with Manchester
United."

| Barcelona
and Chelsea in Hasselbaink talks |
12 Jan 2003
|
|
Barcelona trainer Louis van Gaal
spoke with club directors yesterday to
discuss a move for Chelsea striker Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink who has once
again admitted he would like to move to Barcelona. There are several
bargaining optionsfor both clubs. It is understood that Chelsea
have been offered £8 million for the striker or £3 million, and forgetting
the money owed for the transfers of Manu Petit and Boudewijn Zenden's. Reports
in Spain on Saturday indicated that Barca only need the green-light from
president Joan Gaspart to complete the deal.
Hasselbaink: "The thing is I am a football player and I always want
to play on the highest level and the biggest place.
It's not that I have it bad at Chelsea. I love it here, and I wouldn't go
for something foolish. I
wouldn't even think about something. If
I can finish my contract here, I will be delighted because it's a lovely
place, with lovely people, and the fans are magnificent, but, if a club
the size of Barcelona says I am interested in Jimmy, I have to listen and
think shall I do it or not do it? I have to be honest. I would be lying if I
said I wouldn't listen to it. Why not say the truth and say you would
listen?".

| Van
Nistelrooy and Hasselbaink on target |
12 Jan 2003
|
|
Manchester United kept in touch with Premiership leaders Arsenal with a 3-1
away victory against West Bromich Albion. Although the home side took the
lead via Jason Koumas in the 7th minute of the game , Ruud van Nistelrooy cancelled out
the seventh-minuter, poking the
equaliser through Hoult's legs from six yards. On the stroke of half time
van Nistelrooy came close to netting a second but Albiondefender Moore headed clear from under his own
bar to deny the lurking van Nistelrooy.
Chelsea beat Charlton Athletic 4-1 at Stamford Bridge yesterday with Jerrel
Hasselbaink scoring the 1-0 from the penalty spot. Chelsea
seized the lead after just two minutes through Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink's
spot-shot. Le Saux crossed the
ball to Hasselbaink who then made a minimal contact with Chris Powell as they
went for the ball together. Referee
Dean interpreted Powell's contact as a foul and pointed straight to the spot.

| Reiziger
talks with Manchester City |
09 Jan 2003
|
|
Michael Reiziger is to fly off to England today to discuss
a possible move to Kevin Keegan's Manchester City. The Dutchman
has been linked with a host of clubs in recent weeks, now that he has told
by trainer Louis van Gaal that he can no longer expect a first team place.
City would like to hire
Reiziger until the end of the season and making a permanent move for the
defender in the summer.
In an interview on Manchester City's website Keegan said: "Michael
will come in tomorrow and spend the day here, He will have a look at the
facilities and will then have to decide if he wants to come here on a loan
deal which would be until the end of the season. He
is a great player who has a terrific footballing CV but it is too soon to
talk of him being a City player or being included in the squad for the
clash with Leeds." |

Dutch international Michael
Reiziger looks set to make the move to the Premier League now that Manchester City
and Barcelona have agreed a transfer sum of £4m. Both
clubs have been negotiating for some time behind the scenes and it is now
expected that the defender, who had also attracted interest from
Newcastle,
Manchester United, Celtic, and
Galatasaray, will soon be traveling
to Manchester to discuss terms.

| Seedorf
happy with Milan trainer |
07 Jan 2003
|
|
Dutch
international Clarence Seedorf has stated in an interview that AC Milan's
current success can be attributed to their trainer Carlo Ancelotti.
Milan who are joint leaders of the Seria A alongside with Inter Milan have
been unbeaten in their last six games.
Seedorf: "If we are leaders, it's because we have done better than
the other sides. If Milan are Serie A leaders, it's thanks to Carlo
Ancelotti who built a well-balanced team.
If we don't let in many goals, it's thanks to our defense but also to our
good play and to the willingness of all players who are always ready to
sacrifice themselves for the team's good.
The Italian league is very difficult, especially when you don't play at
home but we got many successes away in the Champions League and they must
be even more important, however, I can't find a precise reason and I don't
think home games are different from the away ones." |
| Bergkamp
to add one more year at Arsenal |
06 Jan 2003
|
|
Dennis
Bergkamp, who was planning to hang up his boots at the end of this season
and return to his native country Holland, has once again hinted that he would like to
carry on playing for Arsenal for another year. The ex-Dutch international,
who celebrated his 100th goal for the Gunners last weekend, has now set his
sights on winning the Champions League.
Bergkamp: "If I had to make a decision now then, yes, I would carry on but
there's still a long way to go in the current season. I think I would regret
stopping but I don't want to make a final decision yet but I expect this to be my last club. The enjoyment of scoring
never goes away. We do have a
good chance in the Champions League and when you look at the whole squad,
it's difficult to find a better one. So if we can all gel together and
improve on our performances so far, we do have a great opportunity. That would be great for me."

| Kluivert
interested in Juventus move |
06 Jan 2003
|
|
Dutch
international Patrick Kluivert has admitted he would certainly consider a
move to Juventus after reports in the Italian media suggested that
Barcelona and Juventus are prepared to do a deal involving French
international David Trezeguet and the Barcelona striker. Kluivert has
never disguised the fact that he would someday like to be reunited with
his best friend, Edgar Davids.
Kluivert : "I feel good at Barcelona, but in life you can't exclude
anything, especially if you are contacted by Juve, They're really a great
club and my friend Edgar Davids' presence is also a reason to consider a
move while, if playing in Spain is still enjoyable for me, I think that
the Italian championship is a huge stimulus for a player." |
| Bergkamp
scores 100th goal for Arsenal |
05 Jan 2003
|
|
Dennis Bergkamp scored his 100th goal for Arsenal this weekend during
his team's 2-0 FA Cup fourth round win against Oxford United.
Arsenal's trainer Arsene Wenger stated after the match that he is
confident that Bergkamp will extend his career at Highbury for another
season rather than returning to his native Holland. "Dennis
has made an immense contribution to the club, showing time after time not
only what a great player he is but also being a great example for his
teammates. I can't believe how quickly he's scored his 100 goals as
they've all been sensational. The
fact that he's scored his 100th goal in this game shows just how
professional he is. He doesn't just save his goals for the bigger games.
I think this will be
his last club, although he still has to decide on his future." |

| Dutch
international Ruud van Nistelrooy was once again on target today, scoring
twice from the spot for Manchester United as they struggled to beat
Portsmouth 4-1 in the FA Cup third round. David Beckham's and Paul

awful second half miss by Nigel Quashie that would have put them level
before Van the Man's spot-shots sealed their Cup fate. |

04 Jan 2003

Barcelona's Dutch trainer Louis van Gaal has
targeted AS Monaco defender Rafael Marquez and Liverpool wing-back John Arne
Riise and hopes to lure the players to Nou Camp during the January
transfer-window. Rafael Marquez started his career with Atlas in
Mexico before earning a move to French club Monaco in 1999.
Mexico's national team manager Javier Aguirre is a huge admirer, fully aware
that his versatility and
exuberance are major benefits to his side.
Riise
is popular with the Anfield crowds for his spectacular goals, in particular a
free-kick rocket against Manchester United at Anfield.

| Kiki
Musumpa targeted by AS Roma |
02 Jan 2003
|
|
Ex-Ajax midfielder Kiki Musampa has attracted the attention of AS Roma.
Musumpa has been in super form this season, and has long been a subject of
interest for Newcastle United's Bobby Robson. AS Roma, who are faced with
enormous debts problems and have stated they are
prepared to sell Jaap Stam to help relieve the situation, are in the
same Champions League group as Ajax. However, if they sell Stam and buy
Musumpa he'll not be eligible to play for them as he has already played in
the UEFA Cup this season for his current club Malaga. |
| Stam
off to AC Milan ? |
02 Jan 2003

Lazio Roma, who find themselves in a precarious financial situation
could well be forced to sell a number of their star players in order to be
able to survive and Dutch international Jaap Stam could be the first to
make a move now that AC Milan has displayed interest for the defender. If
the deal does go through then Stam will be joining fellow compatriot
Clarence Seedorf. |
| Van
Bronckhorst glad to be back |
02 Jan 2003
|
|
Giovanni van Bronckhorst's Arsenal moved eight points ahead of Chelsea,
who had started the day in second place, with a 3-2 victory at Highbury
yesterday, maintaining their five-point advantage over Manchester United.
Van Bronckhorst, who
scored his first goal since February following his return from long-term
injury, is optimistic about their prospects but made it clear that his
side would not rest on their laurels.
"To beat Chelsea is a big win for us and it's a great way to start
the New Year. We want to maintain the gap and make it as big as possible.
If we keep on winning our games, we will make it very difficult for the
other teams. That's
why it was important for us to beat Chelsea and keep them eight points
behind us.
We are first in our Champions League group and first in the Premier
League, while we now face Oxford in the FA Cup third round. We
want to be involved in all competitions as far as possible. The aim is to
win as many prizes as possible. With
a team like this, we can do it but we have to stay focussed until the end
of the season - and, if we work hard, hopefully we will get a prize at the
end."

duo Dennis Bergkamp and Giovanni van Bronckhorst helped Arsenal to a 3-2
win against Chelsea in the London derby today. Dennis the Menace put
Arsenal ahead in the 9th minute of the match after his shot was deflected
into goal by Chelsea's Marcel Desailly. Oranje
international Giovanni van Bronckhorst and French super striker Thierry
Henry increased the score to 3-0. The Blues struck back via late goals by
Mario Stanic and Emmanuel Petit, as Chelsea threatened to escape from
Highbury with a point. |
| Barcelona
join queue for Chivu |
01 Jan 2003
|
|
Ajax's Rumanian
international Christian Chivu is reported to have attracted Louis van Gaal's
attention and could well be used in a swap-deal with Barcalona's Dutch
international, Frank de Boer. De Boer has already
stated that he would be prepared to make the move back to Ajax. Although
Chivu has been targeted by Real Madrid, it is uncertain
whether the deal will go through as Real Madrid's
chairman Florentino Perez has stated that he hopes defender Fernando Hierro
will play on for another season. Furthermore, Real have been showing an interest
in Mexican defender Rafael Marquez. It's been reported in the Spanish media
that Barcelona are willing to offer Ajax €19 million Euros
for their star defender, an offer that Ajax can hardly refuse.
