We start with a
short history of 'names' - August 18th 1965
was the official founding date of the Stichting FC Den Bosch/BVV which
marked BVV's departure from the ranks of the professionals and its return to
amateur status. The 'new' club Den Bosch/BVV kicked off in the 'Tweede
Divisie B' while the amateurs BVV did likewise in the 'Vierde Klas' of the
KNVB's amateur league. Two years later another local club Wilhelmina decided
to merge with Den Bosch and joined BVV in the amateur league, leaving FC Den
Bosch as the sole remaining professional football club in the town of
's-Hertogenbosch. A period of cooperation between BVV and Den Bosch in th
eyears 1988-1992 led to the club playing under the name BVV Den Bosch, after
which it became once again known simply as FC Den Bosch.
Since its appearance
on the Dutch football scene FC Den Bosch has provided its fans with close on
40 years of attractive, entertaining and spectacular football. The club has
also had its 'firsts' - the first goalkeeper to score a goal from a forward
pass was Jan van Grinsven in 1986 during the last minutes of a match against
Roda JC! His achievement was 'world news' and even reached the tv screens of
Argentina (and many other tv stations)! OK the end result of the match was a
draw but Jan's example inspired many a keeper to try and do the same for
their team in the dying minutes of a match! Another exemple - Wim van de
Horst, the club's winger in the 70s and 80s was seen dancing with the corner
flag in his hand long before Cameroen's Roger Milla! Wim grabbed his
'partner' during the legendary match against Ajax in 1982 which Den Bosch won
3 - 0 and celebrated his hattrick with a two-step accompanied by a more than
willing flagged partner! Those goals remain etched on the retinas of many a
football-lover! And wasn't Gerard Aichorn one of the first attacking
wing-backs in Holland? Let's not forget those other famous
names that have contributed so much to the atmosphere enjoyed by fans in the
club's past - Toon Brusselers, Piet Kamps, Hans van der Pluym, Zejko
Petrovic and, last but not least, Hans Kraay Junior, who knew better than
anyone how to 'play' the team and to the public at one and the same time! By
competing with, and holding their own against, the top clubs Feyenoord, Ajax
and PSV, the team gained the reputation as a 'giant-killer' and were always
formidable competition for any opponent in the Cup, reaching a climax when
they appeared in the Cup Final in May 1991!
A question for all
you learned ones - is there such a thing as a 'Bosschian school of
football'? The answer can only be yes! Eef Mulders, Loet Donkers, Hans
Gilhaus, Arnold Scholten, Fred van der Hoorn, Ruud van Nistelrooy, Theo
Lucius and Anthony Lurling are all household football names who've developed
their formidable talents with Den Bosch and gone on to join the ranks of
footballing giants, spread the name of FC Den Bosch all over the footballing
world!
In 1996 work began on the
demolition of the old "De Vliert" stadium which was incapable of
living up to the standards we come to expect nowadays of our football
stadiums. In April 1997 the new "ECCO" stadium and social facilities were
officiallyd, offering spectators more comfortable surroundings which
only serve to increase their enjoyment of their favourite sport. FC Den
Bosch hope to soon (2001) complete the last stage of construction work with
theng of two new "Koptribunes" (goal-end stands),
replacement of the "Oosttribune" stand and extension of the
existing "Hoofdtribune" (mainstand) as the club continues to build
its future on the foundations of its historic successes!!!!
Den Bosch play in blue and white and their home
ground the ECCO Stadium can accomodate 4,900 fans.
