4 million saves cash stripped AZ |
12 Jun 2003
|
| AZ
chairman Dirk Scheringa has once again come to the rescue of the cash
stripped club after Frisia Financieringen, one of Scheringa's companies,
has agreed to lend/give AZ four million euros to help save the club from
bankruptcy and secure a Dutch FA license for next term. The
club had been hoping that the local town council would be prepared to loan
them the money but with the threat of their license being revoked,
Scheringa was not prepared to wait for their decision. In
return for Scheringa's support over the past few decades, the new stadium,
which would have been called Kooimeerplaza, will be named the Frisia
Stadion. |

after club chairman Dirk Scheringa's request for the players to take a
30% wage cut was refused. The club are now contemplating to loan out several
players and end the contracts of others in an attempt to enable them to
build a new stadium. The club are

players still waiting for wages |
29 May 2003
|
|
The discontentment amongst AZ players
continues to grow after was revealed that the players have not yet received
this month's wage packets whereas other members of AZ's staff have been paid.
Although the club has stated that the salaries will be paid the players
believe that the club's chairman Dick Scheringa is stalling in an attempt to
make them accept a pay-cut. Two
weeks ago the players refused to accept a 30% wage reduction. AZ spokesman
Willem Zeijlmans: "We
hope that we can solve the problem within a few days. The
rules of the collective wage agreement says that we have until June 10 to pay
the salaries, but we probably won't need so much time."

20 May 2003
|
|
AZ's Joost Volmer, who has been
informed that he may be sold if a suitable club should show interest in
him, is on trial
at Scottish Premier League side Hibernian this week. The 29-year-old
has been unable to gain a regular first team place with the Alkmaarders and so
AZ are hoping to earn a little cash before Volmer's contract runs out next
year. Volmer has also been on
trial with
West Bromwich Albion, but there was no further interest in the player.

| Adriaanse
ponders future AZ |
19
May 2003
|
AZ's ambitious coach Co Adriaanse has
stated in an interview in the Dutch provincial newspaper 'Noordhollands Dagbald'
that he may well leave the club soon. The former Ajax trainer, whose contract
runs out in 2005, has vented criticism towards his players lack of fighting
spirit and the club's lack of ambition. Adriaanse also said that he did not want
to entail another season like this one and was certainly not planning to end his
coaching career as a loser. The coach believes that although the players have
been asked to accept a 30% wage reduction, they should still give the club 100%
on the field.
Adriaanse: "This group of
players do not have that ambition - or they do not have the right mental
qualities to show that they are winners. Of
course I understand that the players are in a terrible situation at the
moment," he said. "It's not funny to hear that you have to hand over
30 percent of your income. But at other clubs such a thing is all the more
motivation to fight even harder. Not at AZ. They give the board all the
ammunition they need to defend the measure."

May 2003
|
|
Out of favour PSV defender Michael Lamey,
who is currently on loan to AZ, has attracted the attention of Utrecht who would
also like to lend the PSV-er for next season. Although unable to secure a first
team place with PSV, the Eindhovenaren do not want to offload Lamey but would
rather see him lent out for one more season so that he can gain more Eredivisise
experience. Although PSV have already given AZ their consent to hire Lamey for
one more season, Utrecht are planning to make a move before any papers have been
signed. Lamey is not yet prepared to
state his preferance for next season saying: "I'm having a great time at
AZ But Utrecht is also a fantastic club. I'll see."

11 Mar 2003
|
| An
independent arbitration committee in Holland have told AZ they
must make Henk van Stee technical director.
Van Stee was sacked last October and then

dismissed as trainer. AZ, however, already had a
technical director in Martin van Geel and refused to let Van Stee take
his job. An independent arbitration
committee has ruled in favour of Van Stee, saying that he must be given
the job until July 1, 2004. AZ
and Van Stee have yet to comment.

naming his team for Friday evening's
match with Roda JC Kerkrade until shortly before kick-off. Adriaanse is waiting

without Reinier Robbemond who is to undergo hospital tests today after
twisting his knee during an AZ training. Tonight's match against Roda is
the first of three consecutive home matches for AZ and the club will
have to do without another 3 key players for these games. Dutch
international goalkeeper Oscar Moens, striker Max Huiberts, and
midfielder Canigia all injured and will not be fit in time for AZ's

players at the beginning of last season from RKC under the agreement that Lamey
could stay for one more year with RKC to gain more Ere Divisie experience. Lamey
has been unable to secure a first team place with RKC so PSV have decided that
it is better for the players development to transfer him to AZ who are searching
for a replacement for defender Ole Tobiasen who in turn has decided to return to
his homeland.

|
|
AZ's players are to take part
in a protest march that has been organized by their fans and supporters. The
march will take place on Saturday and will begin at 12:30. Starting point is
the AZ stadium. The protest is a reaction against Alkmaar's county council
who have temporarily halted the building of AZ's new stadium after
local shop owner had made objections to the plans. AZ's chairman and 6
million euro per year main sponsor Dick Scheringa, has threatened to
withdraw from the club if the building of the stadium hasn't resumed before
March 1st and has stated that this will result in AZ becoming bankrupt
before July 1st 2003. AZ fans were already subject of discussion earlier
this week after expressing their discontent of the situation by

Timmer, who is currently on loan to Ajax, hasy expressed his
dissatisfaction with his current situation. Speaking on Ajax's website,
Timmer stated that he is no longer prepared to sit on the bench and will try
to find a new club at the end of the season. As Ajax already have 3 outstanding
keepers it is unlikely that trainer Ronald Koeman will be in
need of his services after this season while a return to AZ would mean
competing with AZ's number one choice, Oscar Moens. Timmer, who has 2 years
left on his contract, stated that he is prepared to join any club that can
offer him a regular first team place.

AZ-boys went home with their tails between their legs. Northern Irish
international James Quinnd for the 'Tricolores' with the only
goal of the 1st half. The Tilburgers' Dutch international Denny Landzaat increased the lead to 2-0 via a
spot-shot 2 minutes after the break. AZ only then started to push forward and were rewarded for
their efforts when Martijn Meerdink reduced the gap to 1 goal. The visitors continued
to launch attacks, looking for the equalizer but leaving their defense
dangerously In the 80th minute Shoukov was able to profit from the gaps in

AZ, against a notoriously difficult opponent, as they haven't lost a match since ex-Ajax trainer Co-Adriaanse took over (10
points from 4 matches) and once
again they played well, putting RKC under pressure for most of the
match. Michael Buskermolend for AZ in the 63rd minute, rounding
off a Van Galen cross. 5 minutes before time Kromkamp made it 2-0 via a neat
counter.

Stee asks Dutch FA for arbitration |
29 Nov 2002
|
|
Henk van Stee has demanded via an
application to the Dutch FA (KNVB) for arbitration that he be allowed to
serve out his contract at AZ. The trainer was removed from his post at the
end of October and replaced by former Ajax coach Co Adriaanse. While Van
Stee claims to have a contract till 2007 the club claim it runs out in 2004
and he's already turned down an offer of €600,000 Euros to leave. He's
also rejected the offer of a new job as head of the youth academy and head
scout. A decision is expected within 10 days.

26 Nov 2002

|
Henk van Stee has turned down
AZ's offer of a job as international scout. The club's former trainer is
repeating his earlier claim that his contract contains a clause
'guranteeing' him a post with the Alkmaarders as technical director once he
was removed from his job as coach. "I know nothing formally about this
offer, maybe my legal representative knows more?", he told Dutch daily
'Algemeen Dagblad'. "As far as I'm concerned my contract entitles me to
the post of tech. director till 2007 when my deal runs out." Van Stee was
sacked at the end of October after a run of disappointing results and was
replaced by former Ajax coach Co Adriaanse, under whose leadership the team
is currently unbeaten after a Cup win plus 3 Ere Divisie wins and a draw.

|
Roda
JC lineup :
AZ
lineup : Moens - Wijker, Lindenbergh, Opdam, Tobiasen, de Cler - Buskermolen,
Robbemond, van Galen, Meerdink - Nelisse
AZ's disastrous start to the season
seems to have come to an end now that Co Adriaanse has taken over as
trainer. Since the arrival of the ex-Ajax trainer, AZ haven't lost a game
and have climbed to a safe 10th position. Barry van Galen was AZ's man of
the match with 2 goals ( 3rd and 43rd) and 1 assist to ex-Ajax defender Ole
Tobiasen in the 20th minute of the match. Pedrag Filipovic scored Roda's consolation
10 minutes before time.

Lindenbergh, van Galen, Buskermolen - Meerdink, Nelisse
Utrecht and AZ share the points with this
tough, card-ridden 2-2
draw. After a mediocre first-half, in which Robin Nelissed the score in the
26th, Utrecht took control and deservedly drew level with a Stefaan Tanghe
equalizer
in the 71st. Martijn Meerdink nosed the Alkmaarders ahead again from a
counter in the 82nd but, just as everyone was getting used to the idea of
Utrecht's first home defeat since February, Dirk
Kuijt struck a mighty blow with his boot, a tremendous goal and injury time equalizer
(92nd) to snatch a point.

According to an interview with
football-scout Ben Hendriks in Dutch magazine 'Voetbal International',
Italian Serie A side Udinese are currently targeting AZ goalie Oscar Moens
although the Alkmaarders have not been approached officially as yet.
"We've been watching Oscar for some time now and we may well put in a
bid for him when the next transfer-window comes round in January."

year-old Morgan De Sanctis, has let in 8 goals in 7 matches so far this

beat Eagles in Amstel Cup 2-3 |
06 Nov 2002
|
| Trainer
Co Adriaanse booked his first success with his new team AZ last night
after the Alkmaarders beat Go Ahead Eagles 2-3 in the first knockout round
of the Amstel Cup. It was also the Eagles 6th consecutive Cup defeat by AZ!
Martijn Meerdink put AZ ahead after 4 minutes while the Eagles had 1st
half goal-scoring opportunities but their strikers failed to pass Oscar
Moens in goal. AZ were gifted a 2nd just before halftime when an unhappy
Dennis Hulshoff headed in Kenneth Perez's freekick for an own goal while,
after the break, Tim de Clear broke through on the left in the 49th to put
away the 3rd. Two late goals by Jamal Dibi (81st minute penalty and 90th)
were not enough to cause AZ any real problems. |

04 Nov 2002
|
| AZ
and Ervin Lee are parting ways after the Alkmaarders bought off the
remainder of his contract which ran till 2004. The 29 year-old right-back
arrived at the club in 1999 from Fortuna Sittard and played 73 matches in
3 seasons for them before being dropped to the reserve team. |

|
Zwolle
lineup: Van der Werff - Kras, Van der

Lim-Duan, Promes.
AZ
lineup: Moens- De Cler, Lindenbergh, Tobiasen, Fortes Rodriquez - Van Galen,
Opdam, Meerdink, Robbemond - Nelisse, Perez.
AZ were given a good thrashing
by Zwolle tonight with a hat-trick for Marino Promes, lets hope that things
pick up soon once Co Adriaanse is firmly installed because it's clear that's
there's something seriously wrong with the team. Whatever happened to
that great little goal-getter that man Ali Elkhattabi? Maarten Schopsd
the score in the 1st minute before Promes added a 2nd ten minutes later and
a 3rd in the 29th. Arjan Bosschaart took the score to 4-0 and Marino
Promes bagged his 3rd on the stroke of halftime to complete the rout.
Kenneth Perez's 53rd minute consolation goal 'inspired' caretaker
trainers Martin Haar and Luc Nijholt to bring on Elkhattabi for Barry van
Galen but it failed to soften the blow of this defeat.

| Adriaanse
new AZ trainer |
31 Oct 2002
|
Co Adriaanse has been
presented to the press as the new trainer at AZ after signing a deal till
the summer of 2005. The Amsterdammer, who was sacked at Ajax last
November, will take over from Henk van Stee who was relieved of his job
earlier this week. Van Stee is denying AZ's version of the course of events,
as told by AZ's technical director Martin van Geel, which imply that he knew
about the changes that were coming and that he had even suggested Adriaanse
as a possible replacement for himself. Van Stee calls it another example of
AZ's ability to manipulate the truth and is planning legal action to demand
that he be given the post of technical director. "My contract clearly
states that I will be able to appoint the new trainer if/when I step down
and also be offered a new job as technical director."
Adriaanse played for Eerste Divisie Volewijckers and Ere Divisie Utrecht
before starting his coaching career with PEC Zwolle in 1984. He moved on to
look after Den Haag in 1988 and, in 1992, became head of the youth academy
at Ajax. In 1997 he took over at Willem II, who ended the 1998/1999 season
in 2nd place behind Feyenoord. It earned the 'Tricolores' a place in the
Champions League but they only managed two draws in theng round. In
January 2000 Adriaanse took over at Ajax after Jan Wouters' departure, which
was a dream come true for the Amsterdammer. However, he failed to succeed in
achieving the goals he'd set himself at the ArenA and was shown the door
last November after a series of disappointing results and increasing
friction with some of the squad.

| AZ
sack coach Van Stee |
30 Oct 2002
|
|
Henk van Stee is being relieved as coach at
AZ, effective immediately, after the club decided that there was little
chance of seeing an improvement in the team's performances. Martin Haar and
Luc Nijholt will look after the squad while a replacement is found for the
trainer's post. AZ have offered the coach another job with the club but he
wants time to think before accepting the new position. Van Stee joined the
Alkmaarders in April last year as replacement for Gerard van der Lem and
managed to help the team avoid the perils of the end-of-season playoffs. AZ
failed to improve last season and this season has been little better and,
with only 10 points from 9 games so far, they are currently in 12th place.
With the prospect of a new stadium in the near future, and club chairman
Dirk Scheringa's dream of Champions League football at stake, the management
decided that it was time for a change.

joined Gerard van der Lem's team with the Saudi Arabia national team. Metgod
is a former goal-stopper for Haarlem and Sparta who has also made several
appearances for Oranje.

| Twente's
2nd win of season 1-2 at AZ |
26 Oct 2002
|
|
AZ
lineup: Moens - Tobiasen, Opdam, Wijker,
Fortes R. - Meerdink, Robbemond, Lindenbergh, Van Galen - Nelisse, Perez.
Twente
lineup: Boschker - El-Brazi, Grujic, Pothuizen, Heubach - Polak, Van de
Paar, Cziommer - Cairo, Cavens, Booth.
A winning coach is never wrong
and noone at Twente will be mentioning René Vandereycken's decision
yesterday to drop Björn van der Doelen, Jack de Gier and Tom van de Leegte
for this match. The 'Tukkers' booked a healthy 1-2 away win at AZ, climbing
from 15th to 13th place in the table. Simon Cziommer (24th) and Ellery Caïro
(35) gave them a comfortable lead going into the break but Martijn Meerdink's
54th minute goal for the Alkmaarders heralded a tight 35 minute spell for
the visitors who nonetheless managed to hold on to their slender advantage
for what is only the Enschede team's 2nd of the season.

| Ajax
beat AZ 6-2 |
19 Oct 2002
|
|
Ajax
lineup: Stekelenburg - Trabelsi, Bergdølmo,
Yakubu, De Jong - Galásek, Litmanen, Witschge - Van der Meyde, Mido, Sikora.
AZ
lineup: Moens - Tobiasen, Wijker, Opdam, De Cler - Meerdink, Lindenbergh,
Robbemond, Van Galen - Nelisse, Perez.
AZ got off to a fast start against Ajax in the
ArenA, Kenneth Perezng the score for the Alkmaarders in the 3rd
minute and Barry van Galen's attempt, a couple of minutes later, hitting the
bar. Ajax's Egyptian striker Ahmed Mido Hossam, replacing the injured Zlatan
Ibrahimovich, scored twice in the 10th and 12th minutes. The first was a fine
header from a Van der Meyde cross and the second a simple goal from close
by. Jari Litmanen added a 3rd in the 22nd to give the
Amsterdammers a comfortable 3-1 half-time lead. The Finnish international and
crowd favourite has clearly recaptured his form of old and came up with a fabulous
lob to beat Oscar Moens two minutes into the 2nd half. Kenneth Perez scored
his 2nd on the hour to close the gap as AZ fought back but substitute
Nourdin Boukhari put away two of his own in the 89th and 92nd minutes for
the final 6-2 score.

| AZ
lose to Vitesse 1-3 |
06 Oct 2002
|
|
AZ
lineup: Moens - Tobiasen, Wijker, Van Galen, De Cler - Meerdink,
Robbemond, Lindenbergh, Opdam - Perez, Nelisse.
Vitesse
lineup: Jevric - Cornelisse, Stefanovic, Fränkel - Levchenko, Rankovic,
Amoah, Claessens - Mustapha, Peeters, Martel. Vitesse,
clearly inspired by their UEFA Cup success against Rapid Bucharest,
travelled to Alkmaar in confident mood and returned home to Arnhem with 3
valuable away points after another convincing performance. Amoah was the
Arnhemmers 'Man of the Match', having a part to play in all 3 goals. Gert Claessens
put them ahead from one of his passes after only 5 minutes. Rankovic and
Peeters had chances to increase the score but failed while AZ slowly got
into the game and Barry van Galen equalized for them from an Ole Tobiasen
pass on the stroke of halftime. The Alkmaarders looked the more
opportunistic team but Vitesse regained control of the tough, physical
match and went on to create the best chances. After seeing an earlier attempt cleared
off the line by Tim de Cler, Amoah headed in a Rankovic cross for the
2nd goal in the 67th. Amoah was there again to set up Nicky Hofs with the 3rd
to put the result
beyond doubt in the 90th.

lose to AZ 1-2 |
20 Aug 2002
|
Excelsior
lineup: Malkowski - Swerts, Olfers, Breuer, Van Dieren - Boutahar, Mtiliga,
Lopes, Koswal - Holman, Pinas.
AZ lineup: Moens - Tobiasen,
Wijker, Lindenbergh, de Cler - Meerdink, Robbemond, Opdam, Van Galen -
Nelisse, Perez.
AZ booked their 2nd win of the season tonight.
The Alkmaarders had few problems dealing with Excelsior tonight and booked
their 2nd win of the season. Although the Kralingen side were at least as
good as the visitors during theng half but were sloppy in defence and
failed to convert their chances while the Alkmaarders did. Oscar Moens had
precious little to do while his opposite number Zbigniew Malkowski had more
than he'd have liked. Barry van Galen put the visitors ahead in the 33rd and
Robin Nelisse increased their advantage in the 44th. Excelsior-trainer Adri
Koster made a few changes during the break René van Dieren and Said
Boutahar came off, replaced byuMounir El Hamdaoui and Michel Fernandes
Bastos. Kenneth Perez and Martijn Meerdink could have put AZ even further
ahead but failed while Excelsior equally failed to find the back of the net
until Patrick Mtigla's consolation goal which was too late to swing the
match around.

| AZ's
Kromkamp back in action |
17 Sep 2002
|
|
AZ's Jan Kromkamp has played his first match since
picking up a knee injury in March which has kept him out of action since. He
turned out for 45 minutes football last night with Jong AZ in the 0-2
defeat by Jong RKC. "The knee held up well and there's been no adverse
reactions to the stresses of playing. As far as I'm concerned, if my trainer
needs me then I'm available for Friday's match (in Rotterdam against Excelsior).
Obviously I'm missing match-rhythm but the aim is to bring me back up to speed
in time for the home match against Groningen."

| El
Hadrioui and AZ part ways |
17 Sep 2002
|
|
Abdelkrim El Hadrioui and AZ have
reached
agreement on the termination of the
defender's contract
and the player will receive a one-off payment from
AZ. The 30 year-old Moroccan international, who's deal ran till 2004 but was
not getting any match-action, will take his official leave of the club as of
October 1st. El Hadrioui arrived in Alkmaar in 1998 from Portugese side
Benfica on the recommendation of the club's trainer-at-the-time Willem van
Haneghem.
The arrival of Tim de Cler from Ajax
has pushed him out of Henk van Stee's squad - he's played a total of 88
matches, scoring twice.

| De
Graafschap lose to AZ 1-2 |
15 Sep 2002
|
|
De
Graafschap lineup: Wevers - Bot, Bakens, Van der Kruis, Hermans
- Culina, Van Leerdam, Van den Brom, Turpijn - Valeev, Van Vossen.
AZ
lineup: Moens - Tobiasen, Opdam, Wijker, De Cler - Meerdink, Lindenbergh,
Robbemond, Perez - Van Galen, Nelisse.
AZ have finally booked their first win of the
season with a 1-2 at De Graafschap. The Alkmaarders had only earned
themselves one point in theirng 3 matches but Martijn Meerdink, who
turned out for the home team last season, inspired them to victory this
afternoon. Meerdink, celebrating his 26th birthday today, equalized for the Alkmaarders in the 43rd
after Australian midfielder Jason Culina (on loan
from Ajax) put the SuperBoeren in the lead with a 28th minute goal. The last
three minutes of theng half saw intense pressure at the home end which
resulted in Barry van Galen scoring the 1-2 on the stroke of halftime. In
the break AZ trainer Henk van Stee clearly told his men to close down the
shop and the visitors were content to defend during the 2nd 45
minutes. It proved to be hard work holding onto that slender lead and
defender Ole Tobiassen was clearly close to exhaustion in the closing
minutes. The tactic worked though and they take home the first 3 points of
this season which take them into 14th place while De Graafschap sink to
15th.

| Jan
Nederburgh to join Van der Lem |
11 Sep 2002
|
|
AZ's keepers-trainer Jan Nederburgh looks set to
follow Gerard van der Lem to join the technical
staff of the Saudi Arabian FA. He's asked the Alkmaarders to annul his
contract and the club have reacted positively to his request, not wanting to
stand in his way. "It's a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and I want to
grasp it with both hands," he announced on the AZ website. Nederburgh
could well be joining Van der Lem in the plane when, as expected, he flies out to Saudi
Arabia at the beginning of October. In the meantime AZ are now looking for a
new keepers-trainer.

thrashed 4-0 by PSV |

AZ
lineup: Moens, Tobiasen, Wijker, Lindenbergh, De Cler, Meerdink, Perez, Van
Galen, Robbemond, Elkhattabi, Nelisse.
PSV
lineup: Waterreus, Bøgelund, Ooijer, Hofland, Bouma, Rommedahl, Van Bommel,
Vogel, Robben, Kezman, Bruggink.
PSV dealt simply but efficiently with the
Alkmaarders, who missed 5 injured players, to go top of the Ere Divisie without having given away a
goal so far in 3 matches. André Ooijer put a rebound away for the visitors in the
14th minute to celebrate his 100th match for PSV while Van Bommel was
playing his 200th, having made his debut for the club against Fortuna
Sittard on May 15th 1993 at the tender age of 16! Yugoslavian striker Mateja Kezman
was the danger-man of theng half, adding a 2nd goal in the 36th
and a
3rd on the stroke of half-time (taking his tally in 5 matches against AZ to
6) from Rommedahl passes. A 4th goal by Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink in
the 86th minute completed the rout of the Alkmaarders.AZ played some
attractive André Ooijer put the visitors ahead in the
14th minute, Yugoslavian striker Mateja Kezman added a 2nd in the 36th and a
3rd on the stroke of half-time. Earnest Faber came on for André Ooijer
after the break and Remco van der Schaaf made his debut in the PSV colours. A 4th goal by Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink in
the 86th minute completed the rout of the Alkmaarders.

| AZ
and Abdelkrim El Hadrioui to part ways |
05 Sep 2002
|
|
AZ want to get rid of defender Abdelkrim El
Hadrioui and have suggested that his contract , which runs till 2004, be
terminated. The left-back would then be able to leave Alkmaar in October
with a one-off payment in his pocket. Since the arival of Tim de Cler from
Ajax the temperamental Moroccan international has becme superfluous to the
club's needs. After several clashes with the technical staff he'd been
dropped from the 1st team squad and both parties want to finally see the back of
each other.

Juha Reini out for a week |

| AZ
and Heerenveen draw 3-3 |
17 Aug 2002
|
|
AZ lineup: Moens, Reini, Wijker, Opdam, Lindenbergh, Meerdink, Robbemond,
Buskermolen, Van Galen, Perez and Nelisse.
Heerenveen lineup: Vonk, Venema, Hansma, De Nooijer, Edman, Nurmela,
Jensen, Hansson, Samardzic, Selakovic and Denneboom.
AZ and Heerenveen treated the fans to a
goal-filled match tonight in Alkmaar. The visitors went ahead 3 times during
the 90 minutes but the Alkmaarders, who've yet to win an Ere Divisie meeting
with the Frieslanders, fought back each time to draw level. Romano Denneboom
played a prominent role for the visitors and his trainer Foppe de Haan
clearly sees him as the successor to 'Mighty Swede' Marcus Allbäck who
departed for Aston Villa at the end of last season. The 21 year-old striker
repaid the faith shown in him by scoring twice tonight in the 12th and 54th
minutes, defender Ronnie Venema putting away the 3rd in the 28th. Barry van
Galen (26th), that man Ali Elkhattabi (48th) and Kenneth Perez (69th)
scored for trainer Henk van Stee's side.Van Galen's was his 75th
professional goal.

AZ deal for Tininho |
09 Aug 2002
|
| Ajax
hire Timmer for one year |
08 Aug 2002
|
|
After days of speculation, rumour and confusion
Ajax have been able to persuade AZ's reserve keeper Henk Timmer to come to
the ArenA on a one-year loan deal. The 30 year-old keeper spent last season
on loan to Feyenoord and was disappointed when he wasn't able to make the
move permanent. The Rotterdammers and the Alkmaarders couldn't reach
agreement on a transfer-fee and so he returned to AZ where Oscar Moens had
been declared 1st choice. Another problem for Timmer in a move to Ajax was
the risk of becoming 3rd or 4th choice keeper when Lobont and Didulica come
back from injury. Another obstacle was that AZ wanted to sell him whereas
Ajax only wanted to hire him for 4 months but the two clubs apparently
reached agreement on the deal yesterday. Timmer himself has agreed today to
a one-year spell in Amsterdam where he's already passed his medical and
joined the squad for training.

| AZ
trial for Tininho |
05 Aug 2002
|
|
After a failed attempt to find a new employer in
Belgian side KV Mechelen, Brazilian player Tininho is starting a trial with AZ
today. He's been given a week in which to convince coach Henk van Stee, who he
knows from his time at Feyenoord, that he could be of value to the team. Ronildo
Pereira de Freitas, to give him his full name, left the Kuip at the end of last
season when his contract was not extended but, despite a successful trial with
Mechelen, was shown the door because the club could not afford to keep the 25
year-old left-footer.

| AZ
win first friendly |
06 July 2002
|
|
AZ have won their first friendly 5-0 against
the "Polderelftal". Robin Nelisse and Kenneth Perez both scored
twice and Barry van Galen got one. It was an unfortunate start for
newcomer Juha Reini who left injured after 15 minutes. The Dane Ole
Tobiasen, arrived from Ajax, replaced him with a debut for defender Joost
Vollmer and midfielder Martijn Meerdink.

Ahead Eagles hire AZ's Jamal Dibi |
09 Jun 2002
|
| Go
Ahead Eagles are hiring AZ's Jamal Dibi for next season. The left-winger
has played for the Alkmaarders during the last 2 season but never manged
to secure a place in the starting lineup. He played 41 matches, scoring 6
goals, in those two seasons. He arrived from Telstar in the summer of
2000 and was heralded as a great talent but has failed to live up to
expectations.

let El Hadrioui and other players go |
17 May 2002
|
AZ
have told defender Abdelkrim El Hadrioui to start looking for a new
employer. The Alkmaarders are not going to extend the 30 year-old's
contract and he can leave the club transfer-free. His current deal runs
till 2004 but trainer Henk van Stee has explained that there is no place
in the lineup for him at the Alkmaarderhout.
Fellow-defender José Fortes Rodriguez has also been told he can go after
7 years with the club and has been given a transfer-free window till the
middle of June after which the club will want a fee for his departure.
Ervin Lee had already heard he could leave transfer-free. Jamal Dibi and
Jong AZ players Erik Homan and Arjen van Langen will all be lent to other
