| Volendam
caused a playoff upset this afternoon by beating Sparta 3-1,ng up
the fight for promotion in Group B. It's Volendam's
first win of the playoffs and a well-deserved one! They simply played
better football than the Rotterdammers and Maurice Buys put them ahead
after only 3 minutes. Nourdin Boukhari equalized from the spot in the 20th
but Cerezo Fung A Wing made it 1-2 in the 27th. The balance stayed that
way for most of the rest of the match, giving Sparta hope of recovery.
Maurice Buys ended that hope in the 82nd with his 2nd of the match.

Sparta
take over pole position in Group B of the playoffs from ADO Den Haag after
beating Volendam 3-1. They now have 7 points, one more than Excelsior, in
2nd place, who beat Den Haag 2-1.
It took till the 2nd half before Sparta got going. Kenneth Ciciliad
the score 52nd minute and 5 minutes later Danny Koevermans made it 2-0.
The 3rd was an own goal by Volendam's midfielder Carel Bartele in the
66th. Yuri Rose put away a consolation goal for the unhappy Volendammers
who have yet to earn themselves a point and are sunk at the bottom of the
table.

have signed Volendam's Wilbert Need on a contract for one year. The 23
year-old former PSV keeper played 20 Eerste Divisie matches last season.

Hofstede was once again on target in the playoffs this afternoon, scoring
2 of Den Haag's 4 goals in their 0-4 away win against Volendam. The
home side found themselves trailing 0-1 in the 7th minute after Youri
Petrov found the back of the net. Hofstede made it 0-2 in the 51 nd minute
of the 2nd half. Emiel van Eijkeren put the 0-3 on the score board in the
64th and Hostede scored his 2nd of the afternoon in the 81st minute of the
match. Den Haag now go top of group B and if they keep up the good play, then
they could well be playing Ere Divisie football next season.

The match in Rotterdam was preceded by a 1 minute silence out of
respect for the assassinated Dutch politician, Pim Fortuyn.
Excelsior started the playoff with a comfortable 4-2 win over
Volendam with 4 goals coming in the last 15 minutes.. Thomas Buffeld
the score with the one and only 1st half goal in the 12th minute. Steve Olfers
made it 2-0 in the 58th and Dion Esajas pulled one back in the in the
71st. Brian Pinas made it 3-1 in the 79th minute of the match. Although Yuri Rose
reduced the gap to just 1 goal in the 82nd, just 4 minutes later Thomas Buffel
made it 4-2 with his 2nd goal of the evening.

Although Volendam have nothing left to fight for, the
home side still need to keep in form for the playoffs. Maurice Buysd
for them in the 30th minute of the match with his 16th goal of the
season. Gert den Ouden levelled 6 minutes later with his 20th goal of the
season, giving him the Eerste Divisie no.2 top-scorer spot for this
season. In the 2nd half Volendam were far better than RBC and
increased the score with 2 Houssein Ousanne Ouichou goals in the 65th and
83rd minutes of the game.

reserve goal keeper Wilburt Need has been told that he no longer need turn
up to train with the club. Need has also been informed that his
contract, which is about to run out, will not be renewed. Volendam
trainer Henk Wiseman believes that Need has not shown the professional
conduct required of a player since he lost his 1st team place to Robert
van Westerop last January. Volendam finally decided to take action after
Van Westerop refused to turn up for a reception after their away match
against Den Haag last Friday. |

Volendam managed to secure a place in the end-of-season playoffs this
evening after drawing 1-1 against Den Haag. Volendam's top scorer
Dion Esajas, put the visitors ahead in the 35th minute after rounding off
a solo-run with a well placed shot. Den Haag, who are already
assured of participating in the end of season playoffs, equalized 3
minutes before the break via their own top scorer, Emiel van Eijkeren.

Volendam gained another 3 valuable end-of-season playoff points yesterday
with their somewhat fortunate 2-1 win
against Haarlem. The match was more or less decided just before the break.
Ajax hired-hand Mitchell Piquéd the score for Haarlem 1 minute before
the tea-break and Misha Salden equalized 1 minute later. 2 minutes after
the break Martijn Langendijk scored his 2nd goal of the season (but in the
wrong goal), giving Volendam 3 freebie playoff points.

Jan Bruind the score for Cambuur in the 53rd minute after
a goalless 1st half. Volendam pressed forward and were
rewarded for their efforts when Esajas levelled 1 minute before the final
whistle but just 1 minute later Cambuur forward Kenneth Goudmijn
scored his 7th goal of the season.

with 2 late consolation goals to lessen the pain. Volendam were leading

Eagles scored via Jochem de Weerdt in the 86th and Ugar Yilidirim in the 90th.

has extended his stay at Volendam till the summer of 2003. The 45 year-old
coach, who joined the club in July 2000, has told Ibrahim Babangida,
Wilburt Need, Quincy van Ommeren, Yuri Rose and Richard Corts that they
will be leaving this summer as the Eerste Divisie side needs to make cuts
in the squad. They have offered the two 'junior' players, Sebastiaan Steur
and Martin Tol contracts for, respectively, 2 and 3 years. |

Heracles
beat Volendam 3 - 2
Heracles made a promising start against Volendam, Thijs Sluijter
seeing his shot saved on the line by midfielder Maurice Buys in the 3rd
minute. After that Volendam took control of the first half. Donny de
Grootd the score for the visitors in the 25 minute but, 5
minutes later, Heracles equalized via a Rik Platvoet scrimmage goal, his
10th of the season. Roy Stroeve made it 2 - 1 for the home side 4 minutes into the second
half, rounding off a corner with a beautiful header. Volendam tried to get back into the match
but Heracles
played the better football, and dominated most of the
second half. In the 70th
minute Platvoet made it 3 - 1 with his second goal of the evening.
Donny de Groot put the 3-2 on the scoreboard 5 minutes before the
final whistle with his second goal of the evening.

Fung a Wing has been given an improved contract with Eerste Divisie
Volendam which now runs till July 1st 2005. The defender made his debut on
October 19th 2001 against Helmond, has made 10 appearances since and was
recently selected for the Dutch Under 19 squad.

striker was bought by the Waalwijkers last season and left to ripen in the
Eerste Divisie but has now been called up earlier than expected due to the
large amount of injured players at his new club. The youth international
has played 46 games and scored 12 goals for Volendam.

8 minutes, profiting from a misunderstanding between goalie Brian van Loo
and Roel Buikema. Gerard Kocks saw his attempt to equalize cleared off the
line by Misha Salden soon after. Volendam kept up the pressure and Dion
Esajas added a 2nd in the 29th while Eddy Putter missed a chance to pounce
on another piece of bad communication (this time between Nebil Cimen and
Brian van Loo) for a 3rd goal. Heracles had chances but Roy
Stroeve's shot went just wide and Wilbert Need pulled off a great save on
a shot by Mark van Losser. After the break Heracles put up little
resistance - Maurice Buys put away a penalty for the 3 - 0 seven minutes
into the 2nd half, Esajas got his 2nd for the 4 - 0 in the 65th, Houssein
Ouhsane Ouichou got the 5th in the 70th and Maurice Buys got his 2nd in

the Limburgers were already 2 goals up

for Volendam they weren't able to come up with an answer to the amateurs'
determination to win.

for Volendam and give them a 2 point lead over Fortuna and Telstar in
Group A. They look on course for promotion again to the Ere Divisie - they
last turned out in Holland's Premier League in the 1997/98 season while
unfortunate Fortuna are now in serious danger of being relegated. |
